What is Just Another Grass Seed?
2 parts
Just Another Grass Seed adds the Grass Seed item to the pack. This page covers only what the pack files confirm, and that isn't much.[1][2]
The pack ships version 21.1.5 of Just Another Grass Seed, built for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.1. It has been part of the pack since 1.0.1 or earlier, so it isn't a recent addition.[1]
Where it shows up in progression
You meet the seed very early. In the "the_beginning" quest chapter, the quest a quest in "?" has you obtain Grass Seed as its task. It unlocks after another quest in the same chapter, so you'll reach it as part of your first steps.[2]
What we can't confirm
Unverified The sources don't describe how the grass seed is obtained or used, what it grows, or whether the pack changed any of its recipes or configs. They also don't show where the mod fits on the ATM Star path. Check in-game before relying on any of this.
How do you get started with Just Another Grass Seed?
3 parts
Just Another Grass Seed is a small mod, and in this pack there are really only two things to care about early on: getting the Grass Seed item, and making Fake Grass Blocks. Here is the order I would do them in.[3]
Step one: get Grass Seed by sifting dirt
The first item to chase is Grass Seed. In this pack it comes from sifting plain dirt with a Mechanical Cloth Mesh. The pack added this sifting recipe, and the same sift also gives you a spread of crop seeds and other plant items, so Grass Seed is one of several possible drops.[3]
Sifting (createsifter)
Recipe id: ftb:sifting/minecraft_dirt_with_cloth_mesh
Grass Seed is one of several possible results from this sift, and the pack added the recipe.
The quest book points you at it too. Quest a quest in "?" in the Beginning chapter has an item task for Grass Seed, and it unlocks after an earlier quest in that chapter. Getting this seed early is a good first step.[2]
Step two: craft a Fake Grass Block
Next up is Fake Grass Block. The pack gives you two ways to make it, and both were added by the pack. One is a shapeless craft that starts from a regular grass block. The other uses Super Glue instead, so you can still make one without a grass block on hand.[3]

The alternative recipe, also added by the pack.
Step three: switch biome looks with the stonecutter
Once you have a plain Fake Grass Block, a stonecutter turns it into biome-themed versions, for example Fake Grass Block (Desert), Fake Grass Block (Snow) or Fake Grass Block (Swamp). Other variants include Badlands, Birch, Cheery, Dark Forest, Jungle, Mangrove, Meadow, Mushroom, Ocean, Pale Garden, Plains and Sparse Jungle. Each of those has its own stonecutting recipe added by the pack.[3]
Stonecutting
Recipe id: minecraft:kjs/jags_desert_fake_grass_block
Example: the Desert variant. The other biomes use the same kind of stonecutting recipe.
It also works in reverse. Every biome variant can be cut back into the plain Fake Grass Block, so you can change your mind later.[3]
Example: turning the Desert variant back into the plain block.
How does Just Another Grass Seed work?
3 parts
The recipe sources for Just Another Grass Seed show crafting, stonecutting and sifting. They describe no machines, multiblocks, power or fluid handling for this mod, so this section covers how you obtain and convert its items.[3]
Getting the base Fake Grass Block
The pack adds two ways to make the plain Fake Grass Block. Both are shapeless crafting recipes, so ingredient positions don't matter. The first starts from a regular grass block.[3]
Shapeless crafting recipe added by the pack.
The second is a KubeJS shapeless recipe, also added by the pack, that gives the same block from different ingredients.[3]

Switching biome variants with the stonecutter
Biome variants of the Fake Grass Block are made with stonecutting recipes that the pack added. You put the plain Fake Grass Block into a stonecutter and choose the variant you want.[3]
The sources show plain-to-variant recipes for Fake Grass Block (Badlands), Fake Grass Block (Birch), Fake Grass Block (Cheery), Fake Grass Block (Dark_forest), Fake Grass Block (Desert), Fake Grass Block (Jungle), Fake Grass Block (Mangrove), Fake Grass Block (Meadow), Fake Grass Block (Mushroom) and Fake Grass Block (Ocean).[3]
Stonecutting

Example: the plain Fake Grass Block to the Desert variant, in the stonecutter.
It also works in reverse. Every variant has a stonecutting recipe back to the plain block, including Fake Grass Block (Pale_garden), Fake Grass Block (Plains), Fake Grass Block (Snow), Fake Grass Block (Sparse_jungle) and Fake Grass Block (Swamp). If you picked the wrong biome look, you can convert back and try again.[3]
Example: the Snow variant back to the plain Fake Grass Block.
Where Grass Seed comes from
In this pack, Grass Seed is one of the possible results of sifting dirt with a Mechanical Cloth Mesh. The pack added this sifting recipe, and Grass Seed is only one of many seeds and plants it can give.[3]
Sifting (createsifter)

Unverified What Grass Seed does once you have it is not shown in the sources here. The mod has no in-jar guidebook or lang tooltips available to check, so this guide cannot confirm it.
How do you progress through Just Another Grass Seed?
4 parts
The sources show no tier system for Just Another Grass Seed in this pack. What they do show is a short chain: you get the seed, then make plain Fake Grass Blocks and turn them into biome variants. Here it is in order.[2][3]
Step 1: The quest
The mod appears in the quest book in the "the_beginning" chapter. Quest a quest in "?" has a single task: get a Grass Seed. It unlocks after another quest in the same chapter.[2]
Step 2: Getting the seed
The pack adds a sifting recipe that outputs Grass Seed. The same recipe also outputs farming seeds and saplings from other mods and vanilla, so the Grass Seed is one of many possible results.[3]
Sifting (createsifter)
Recipe id: ftb:sifting/minecraft_dirt_with_cloth_mesh
Added by the pack. The Grass Seed is one of many possible outputs of this sifting recipe.
Step 3: Fake Grass Blocks
The pack adds two ways to make a plain Fake Grass Block: a shapeless crafting recipe and a second shapeless recipe that uses Super Glue from Create.[3]
Added by the pack: the first way to get a plain Fake Grass Block.
Added by the pack: the Super Glue way to get a plain Fake Grass Block.
Step 4: Biome variants
With a plain Fake Grass Block in hand, the pack lets you stonecut it into biome variants. These include Fake Grass Block (Desert), Fake Grass Block (Snow), Fake Grass Block (Swamp), Fake Grass Block (Mushroom) and Fake Grass Block (Cheery). Plains, birch, jungle, meadow, ocean, mangrove, badlands, dark forest, sparse jungle and pale garden variants are also available.[3]
Stonecutting
Recipe id: minecraft:kjs/jags_desert_fake_grass_block
Added by the pack. The other variants use the same stonecutting pattern.
The conversion also works backwards. Stonecutting any variant gives you the plain Fake Grass Block again, so you can swap between biomes.[3]
Added by the pack: the desert variant back to the plain block. The other variants have matching recipes.
How does Just Another Grass Seed work with other mods?
4 parts
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.15.0 guide
This pack ties Just Another Grass Seed into several other mods through recipes it adds itself. These are the connections the pack's recipes and quests confirm.[4]
Getting Grass Seed by sifting dirt
The pack adds a Create Sifter recipe that sifts Dirt with a Mechanical Cloth Mesh. Grass Seed is one of the possible results.[4]
The same sift also gives seeds and crops from other mods, plus some vanilla items. The sources do not show drop chances.[4]
- Farmer's Delight: Cabbage Seeds, Rice Crops and Tomato Seeds.[4]
- Immersive Engineering: Industrial Hemp Seeds.[4]
- Integrated Dynamics: Menril Sapling.[4]
- Vanilla: Bamboo, Beetroot Seeds, Cocoa Beans, Melon Seeds, Pumpkin Seeds, Sugar Cane, Sweet Berries and Wheat Seeds.[4]
Sifting (createsifter)
Recipe id: ftb:sifting/minecraft_dirt_with_cloth_mesh
Added by the pack: sifting dirt can give you Grass Seed.
Fake Grass Block with Create
The pack adds a shapeless crafting recipe for the Fake Grass Block. It connects the mod to Create, since the recipe uses Super Glue.[4]
Added by the pack.
Grass Seed and Ender IO
The pack also adds a Lychee item-inside recipe, grass_seed_from_dirt_water, that uses Grass Seed together with Grains of Infinity from Ender IO. The recipe dump lists no output for it.[4]

Quest link
In the "the_beginning" quest chapter, quest a quest in "?" has you hand in Grass Seed. It unlocks after another quest in the same chapter.[5]
Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Just Another Grass Seed?
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide
In this pack, the mod shows up in one quest, and it lives in the "the_beginning" chapter. It's an early-game quest, so you'll run into it near the start of your run.[6]
The quest is a quest in "?", and it has no title in the pack files. Its task is an item task: you hand in Grass Seed. That's all the quest asks for.[6]
It comes after the quest with the id 5FCEA8229BB6955C in the same chapter, so you need to finish that one first before this one unlocks.[6]
Unverified The sources don't say what the previous quest asks for, whether this quest gives a reward, or how you obtain Grass Seed in this pack. Check the in-game quest book for those details.
