What is Just Another Grass Seed?
1 part
Just Another Grass Seed adds a single item you'll see in the pack: Grass Seed. The pack ships version 21.1.5 of Just Another Grass Seed for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.1, and it has been included since pack version 1.5.0 or earlier.[1]
Where it fits in the progression
You meet this mod very early. The quest a quest in "?" sits in the "the_beginning" chapter, and its task is to have Grass Seed in your inventory. It unlocks after another quest in the same chapter, so you reach it just as you're getting started.[2]
Unverified The sources don't say how you obtain Grass Seed in this pack, what it does when used, or whether the pack changes any of its recipes or configs, so none of that is covered here.
How do you get started with Just Another Grass Seed?
3 parts
This mod is all about grass. In this pack there are two things to get done first: find a Grass Seed, then make Fake Grass Blocks. Here is the order I'd go in.[2][3]
Get a Grass Seed
The first item to find is Grass Seed. The pack adds it as one of the possible results of a sifting recipe, so you get it by sifting dirt. The same recipe can also give you crop seeds and saplings, such as wheat seeds and beetroot seeds.[3]
Sifting (createsifter)
Recipe id: ftb:sifting/minecraft_dirt_with_cloth_mesh
Added by the pack. Grass Seed is one of several possible results of this sifting recipe.
Grass Seed is also the item that the quest a quest in "?" in the_beginning chapter asks for, and it unlocks after another quest in that chapter. The sources here do not show the drop chance, so I can't tell you how many sifts it takes.[2][3]
Make a Fake Grass Block
Next up is Fake Grass Block. The pack gives you two ways to craft it. The simpler one turns an ordinary grass block into a fake one.[3]
Shapeless crafting recipe, added by the pack.
The second recipe does not need a real grass block, which is handy when you can't spare one.[3]
Shapeless crafting recipe, added by the pack.
Switch it to a biome look
Once you have a plain Fake Grass Block, the pack lets you change its look with a stonecutter. You can turn it into variants such as Fake Grass Block (Desert), Fake Grass Block (Snow), Fake Grass Block (Swamp) and Fake Grass Block (Mushroom).[3]
Stonecutting
Recipe id: minecraft:kjs/jags_desert_fake_grass_block
Stonecutting, added by the pack. The other biome variants use the same kind of recipe.
Changed your mind? Each variant can also be stonecut back into the plain block, so you can swap looks whenever you like.[3]

How does Just Another Grass Seed work?
3 parts
Just Another Grass Seed doesn't add machines, multiblocks, power or fluid handling that the available sources describe. What the pack data does show is a small set of recipes around the Fake Grass Block and the Grass Seed, and that's what this section covers.[3]
Getting a Fake Grass Block
The pack adds two crafting recipes for the Fake Grass Block. Both are shapeless, so the layout in the crafting grid doesn't matter.[3]
Biome variants with the stonecutter
The pack handles the biome variants through stonecutting, so you don't need any special machine. Put a plain Fake Grass Block into a stonecutter and you can pick a variant. The variants shown in the recipe data are Badlands, Birch, Cheery, Dark Forest, Desert, Jungle, Mangrove, Meadow, Mushroom, Ocean and Pale Garden, for example Fake Grass Block (Desert) and Fake Grass Block (Ocean).[3]
Stonecutting
Recipe id: minecraft:kjs/jags_desert_fake_grass_block
The other variants listed above follow this same stonecutting pattern.
It also works in reverse. Every variant, including Fake Grass Block (Plains), Fake Grass Block (Snow), Fake Grass Block (Sparse_jungle) and Fake Grass Block (Swamp), has a stonecutting recipe that turns it back into the plain Fake Grass Block. If you picked the wrong biome, just recut it.[3]
Where Grass Seed comes from
The only source of Grass Seed in the sources is a sifting recipe added by the pack. You sift dirt with a cloth mesh, and the Grass Seed is one of many possible results, alongside crop seeds, saplings and other plant items. The sources don't give drop chances, so I can't say how often you'll see it.[3]
Sifting (createsifter)
Recipe id: ftb:sifting/minecraft_dirt_with_cloth_mesh
Grass Seed is one of the listed outputs of this pack sifting recipe.
Unverified What the Grass Seed does once you have it, and how the Fake Grass Block behaves in the world, is not shown by the sources here: there is no in-jar guidebook, no lang file tooltips and no config file for this mod in the pack.
How do you progress through Just Another Grass Seed?
3 parts
Just Another Grass Seed has no tiers or multi-stage upgrade path in this pack. The pack data shows one quest, one way to get the seed, and a set of Fake Grass Block recipes. Here's how they fit together.[2][3]
The quest
The only quest tied to this mod is a quest in "?" in the "the_beginning" chapter. Its task is to obtain Grass Seed. It unlocks after another quest in the same chapter.[2]
Getting Grass Seed
The pack adds a sifting recipe that can give you Grass Seed. Grass Seed is one of many possible results of that recipe, alongside crop seeds, a sapling and other plant items. The sources don't list drop chances, so I can't tell you how much sifting it takes.[3]
Sifting (createsifter)
Recipe id: ftb:sifting/minecraft_dirt_with_cloth_mesh
This sifting recipe was added by the pack and can drop Grass Seed.
Fake Grass Blocks
The pack also adds two shapeless crafting recipes for Fake Grass Block. One starts from a regular grass block, the other uses Super Glue.[3]
Pack-added shapeless recipe for the plain Fake Grass Block.
Second pack-added shapeless recipe for the plain Fake Grass Block.
Once you have a plain Fake Grass Block, the pack lets you turn it into biome variants with a stonecutter. These include Fake Grass Block (Plains), Fake Grass Block (Desert), Fake Grass Block (Snow), Fake Grass Block (Swamp) and Fake Grass Block (Mushroom). The full set also covers badlands, birch, cheery, dark forest, jungle, mangrove, meadow, ocean, pale garden and sparse jungle.[3]
Stonecutting
Recipe id: minecraft:kjs/jags_plains_fake_grass_block
Example pack-added stonecutting recipe; the other variants follow the same pattern.
The conversion also works in reverse. Stonecutting any biome variant gives you back the plain Fake Grass Block, so you can swap looks freely.[3]
Example: the Plains variant stonecut back into the plain block.
How does Just Another Grass Seed work with other mods?
3 parts
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide
This pack connects Just Another Grass Seed to other mods through three custom recipes, all added by the pack. Here is what each one does.[4]
Sifting for Grass Seed
The pack adds a Create Sifter sifting recipe where dirt and a Mechanical Cloth Mesh can give you Grass Seed. The same recipe lists seeds and crops from several other mods among its results.[4]
- Farmer's Delight: Cabbage Seeds, Rice Crops and Tomato Seeds[4]
- Immersive Engineering: Industrial Hemp Seeds[4]
- Integrated Dynamics: Menril Sapling[4]
- Vanilla items: Bamboo, Beetroot Seeds, Cocoa Beans, Melon Seeds, Pumpkin Seeds, Sugar Cane, Sweet Berries and Wheat Seeds[4]
Sifting (createsifter)
Recipe id: ftb:sifting/minecraft_dirt_with_cloth_mesh
Pack-added sifting recipe. Grass Seed is one of the listed results.
In the pack's quest book, the quest a quest in "?" in the the_beginning chapter has an item task for Grass Seed. It comes after another quest in that chapter.[5]
Fake Grass Block
The pack adds a shapeless crafting recipe for the Fake Grass Block that uses Super Glue from Create. The recipe is below.[4]
Shapeless recipe added by the pack.
Grass Seed and Grains of Infinity
The third link is a Lychee recipe added by the pack, with the id grass_seed_from_dirt_water. It is an item-inside type recipe that takes Grains of Infinity, Grass Seed and Dirt as inputs.[4]
Item Inside (lychee)
Recipe id: ftb:lychee/grass_seed_from_dirt_water
Pack-added Lychee item-inside recipe.
Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Just Another Grass Seed?
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide
In this pack, the mod shows up in one quest, and it lives in the "the_beginning" chapter. It's an early-game quest, so you'll run into it near the start of your run.[5]
The quest is a quest in "?", and it has no title in the pack files. Its task is an item task: you hand in Grass Seed. That's all the quest asks for.[5]
It comes after the quest with the id 5FCEA8229BB6955C in the same chapter, so you need to finish that one first before this one unlocks.[5]
Unverified The sources don't say what the previous quest asks for, whether this quest gives a reward, or how you obtain Grass Seed in this pack. Check the in-game quest book for those details.
