What is Just Another Grass Seed?

2 parts

Just Another Grass Seed adds the Grass Seed item to the pack. The pack lists version 21.1.5 of the mod, and it has been in the pack since FTB Skies 2 1.1.1 or earlier.[1][2]

Where it fits in the progression

You meet this mod right at the start. The Beginning chapter of the quest book has a quest, a quest in "?", whose task is to obtain Grass Seed. It unlocks after another quest in the same chapter, and it has no title in the quest data.[2]

The mod is not on the ATM Star quest path, so you don't need it for that goal.[2]

A note on the version

The mod list gives the file name as jags-neo-21.1.5+mc1.21.1.jar, even though this is a 1.18.2 pack. I can't explain that mismatch from the pack data, so treat the file name as listed and nothing more.[1]

Unverified What the seed does in practice, how you obtain it, and whether the pack changes any recipes or configs for it are not confirmed by the available sources. The mod has no in-jar guidebook and no platform page data to check against.

How do you get started with Just Another Grass Seed?

3 parts

Welcome to Just Another Grass Seed in the pack! The first thing to get is Grass Seed. The pack's opening quest chapter asks for it too, in a quest in "?", which unlocks after an earlier quest in that chapter.[2]

Step 1: Get Grass Seed

In this pack, Grass Seed comes from sifting. The pack adds a sifting recipe that lists it as one of many possible seed and plant results.[3]

Sifting (createsifter)

Recipe id: ftb:sifting/minecraft_dirt_with_cloth_mesh

Added by the pack. Grass Seed is one of many possible results.

Step 2: Make a Fake Grass Block

Next, make Fake Grass Block. The pack adds two shapeless recipes for it, so you can use whichever is easier for you right now.[3]

Shapeless (kubejs)

Added by the pack.

Also added by the pack.

Step 3: Pick a biome look

The plain Fake Grass Block can be turned into biome-themed versions with a stonecutter. Some examples are Fake Grass Block (Plains), Fake Grass Block (Desert), Fake Grass Block (Snow), Fake Grass Block (Swamp) and Fake Grass Block (Mushroom). The pack also has Badlands, Birch, Cheery, Dark Forest, Jungle, Mangrove, Meadow, Ocean, Pale Garden and Sparse Jungle variants.[3]

Stonecutting

The other biome variants use the same stonecutting pattern.

Changed your mind? The pack also lets you stonecut any biome variant back into the plain block.[3]

Stonecutting

Plains back to the plain block. The other variants have matching reverse recipes.

Tip: You do not need to craft each biome block from scratch. Make the plain Fake Grass Block once, then stonecut it into whichever look you want and swap later if you like.[3]

How does Just Another Grass Seed work?

3 parts

The sources here only show Just Another Grass Seed as items and recipes. They describe no machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or automation for it, so this section covers how those recipes fit together.[3]

Getting a Fake Grass Block

The pack adds two shapeless crafting recipes for Fake Grass Block. Both are added by the pack, so you won't find them by looking at the mod on its own.[3]

A second shapeless recipe, also added by the pack.

Biome variants via the stonecutter

The biome-flavoured Fake Grass Blocks are made in a stonecutter, not a crafting table. The pack adds stonecutting recipes that turn the plain Fake Grass Block into variants such as Fake Grass Block (Desert), Fake Grass Block (Jungle) and Fake Grass Block (Mushroom).[3]

Fake Grass Block (Desert)Added by the pack

Stonecutting

Recipe id: minecraft:kjs/jags_desert_fake_grass_block

Plain block to a biome variant, shown here with the desert one.

It also works the other way. Each biome variant, from Fake Grass Block (Ocean) to Fake Grass Block (Pale_garden), has its own stonecutting recipe back to the plain Fake Grass Block.[3]

Biome variant back to the plain block, shown here with the desert one.

Tip: Because the variants convert back to the plain block, picking the wrong biome look costs you nothing. Make the plain block first, then stonecut it into whichever variant you want.[3]

Getting Grass Seed

Grass Seed comes from a sifting recipe, not from crafting. The pack adds a sifting recipe (type createsifter:sifting) that takes dirt and a Mechanical Cloth Mesh. The same recipe also lists other seeds and plants, such as wheat seeds, melon seeds and sugar cane, among its possible results. The sources don't give drop chances, so I can't tell you how often the Grass Seed shows up.[3]

Unverified What Grass Seed does when you use it, and how Fake Grass Blocks behave in the world, is not shown in the sources here. The mod has no in-jar guidebook, no tooltips in its lang file and no config files in this pack to check against.

How do you progress through Just Another Grass Seed?

3 parts

There are no tiers for this mod in the pack. The sources show a short path with three steps: get Grass Seed, make a Fake Grass Block, then convert it into biome variants.[2][3]

Step 1: Get Grass Seed

The mod appears in the quest chapter "the_beginning". Quest a quest in "?" asks you to obtain Grass Seed, and it unlocks after quest a quest in "?". The quest has no title in the pack data.[2]

The pack adds a sifting recipe where Grass Seed is one of many possible results. You get it by sifting rather than crafting it, and it shares the result list with other seeds and crops.[3]

Sifting (createsifter)

Recipe id: ftb:sifting/minecraft_dirt_with_cloth_mesh

Added by the pack. Grass Seed is one of several possible results of this sifting recipe.

Step 2: Make a Fake Grass Block

The pack adds two shapeless crafting recipes for Fake Grass Block. You can use either one.[3]

The first of the two shapeless recipes the pack adds for the Fake Grass Block.

Recipe id: ftb:fake_grass_1

The second shapeless recipe the pack adds for the Fake Grass Block.

Step 3: Switch biome variants

Once you have the base block, the pack lets you turn it into biome variants with a stonecutter. The variants include Fake Grass Block (Desert), Fake Grass Block (Snow), Fake Grass Block (Swamp), Fake Grass Block (Mushroom), Fake Grass Block (Ocean) and Fake Grass Block (Pale_garden). The recipes also cover Badlands, Birch, Cheery, Dark Forest, Jungle, Mangrove, Meadow, Plains and Sparse Jungle.[3]

Fake Grass Block (Desert)Added by the pack

Stonecutting

Recipe id: minecraft:kjs/jags_desert_fake_grass_block

Desert is one example. Each variant has its own stonecutting recipe from the base block.

The conversion also works backwards. Each variant can be stonecut back into the plain Fake Grass Block, so you can swap between looks without losing the block.[3]

How does Just Another Grass Seed work with other mods?

3 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

This pack connects Just Another Grass Seed to other mods through three custom recipes, all added by the pack. Here is what each one does.[4]

Sifting for Grass Seed

The pack adds a Create Sifter sifting recipe where dirt and a Mechanical Cloth Mesh can give you Grass Seed. The same recipe lists seeds and crops from several other mods among its results.[4]

Sifting (createsifter)

Recipe id: ftb:sifting/minecraft_dirt_with_cloth_mesh

Pack-added sifting recipe. Grass Seed is one of the listed results.

In the pack's quest book, the quest a quest in "?" in the the_beginning chapter has an item task for Grass Seed. It comes after another quest in that chapter.[5]

Fake Grass Block

The pack adds a shapeless crafting recipe for the Fake Grass Block that uses Super Glue from Create. The recipe is below.[4]

Shapeless (kubejs)

Recipe id: ftb:fake_grass_1

Grass Seed and Grains of Infinity

The third link is a Lychee recipe added by the pack, with the id grass_seed_from_dirt_water. It is an item-inside type recipe that takes Grains of Infinity, Grass Seed and Dirt as inputs.[4]

Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Just Another Grass Seed?

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

In this pack, the mod shows up in one quest, and it lives in the "the_beginning" chapter. It's an early-game quest, so you'll run into it near the start of your run.[5]

The quest is a quest in "?", and it has no title in the pack files. Its task is an item task: you hand in Grass Seed. That's all the quest asks for.[5]

It comes after the quest with the id 5FCEA8229BB6955C in the same chapter, so you need to finish that one first before this one unlocks.[5]

Unverified The sources don't say what the previous quest asks for, whether this quest gives a reward, or how you obtain Grass Seed in this pack. Check the in-game quest book for those details.
