What is Just Another Grass Seed?
1 part
Just Another Grass Seed adds a single item you'll care about in this pack: Grass Seed. The pack ships version 21.1.5 of the mod, built for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.1. It has been in the pack since 1.0.1 or earlier, so it's a long-standing part of the modpack.[1]
Where it fits in progression
You meet the mod very early. In the quest chapter "the_beginning", quest a quest in "?" has you obtain Grass Seed. It unlocks after quest a quest in "?", so it's one of your first steps in the pack.[2]
Unverified The sources don't say how you get Grass Seed in this pack, what it does when used, or whether the pack changed any recipes or configs for it. Check the quest in-game before relying on any of that.
How do you get started with Just Another Grass Seed?
4 parts
Just Another Grass Seed is a small mod, and in this pack the starting path is short. It revolves around getting a Grass Seed and then making Fake Grass Block. Here's the order I'd go in.[2][3]
Step 1: Sift for Grass Seed
The pack adds a sifting recipe for Grass Seed. You sift Dirt using a Mechanical Cloth Mesh. Grass Seed is only one of many possible results of that recipe, alongside crop seeds, saplings and a few other plants. The sources don't list drop chances, so I can't tell you how much dirt to expect to sift.[3]
Sifting (createsifter)
Recipe id: ftb:sifting/minecraft_dirt_with_cloth_mesh
This sifting recipe is added by the pack.
Step 2: Check the quest book
Once you have a Grass Seed, open your quest book. The quest a quest in "?" in the chapter "the_beginning" has a single task: obtain a Grass Seed. It comes after another quest in that same chapter.[2]
Unverified What Grass Seed does when you use it is not covered by the sources I have, so check it in-game before you plan around it.
Step 3: Craft a Fake Grass Block
The pack gives you two ways to craft Fake Grass Block. Both are shapeless recipes added by the pack. The first one starts from a regular grass block.[3]
The second one uses Super Glue instead.[3]
Step 4: Pick a biome look in the stonecutter
The base Fake Grass Block can be cut in a stonecutter into biome-themed variants. Examples are Fake Grass Block (Plains), Fake Grass Block (Snow), Fake Grass Block (Jungle) and Fake Grass Block (Desert). The set also includes badlands, birch, cheery, dark forest, mangrove, meadow, mushroom, ocean, pale garden, sparse jungle and swamp.[3]
Stonecutting
Recipe id: minecraft:kjs/jags_plains_fake_grass_block
Every variant is cut from the base block the same way.
You can also go back. Each variant can be cut back into the plain Fake Grass Block in a stonecutter, so you're never locked into a look.[3]
Example: Plains variant back to the base block.
How does Just Another Grass Seed work?
3 parts
Here's the honest picture: for this mod, the pack data I have only covers recipes. I found nothing on machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or automation, so I'm not going to make any of that up. What the sources do show is how the Fake Grass Block family and the Grass Seed fit into the pack's crafting.[3]
Making the base Fake Grass Block
The pack adds two shapeless crafting recipes for Fake Grass Block. Both are pack additions, so don't assume they match what the mod does on its own.[3]
Switching biome variants with the stonecutter
The biome-flavoured variants are not crafted from scratch. The pack adds stonecutting recipes that turn the base block into a variant. Variants shown in the recipe data include Badlands, Birch, Cheery, Dark Forest, Desert, Jungle, Mangrove, Meadow, Mushroom, Ocean and Pale Garden, for example Fake Grass Block (Desert) and Fake Grass Block (Ocean).[3]
It works in reverse too. Stonecutting recipes turn the variants back into the plain Fake Grass Block, so you can swap between looks without losing the block. Here's the Desert pair as an example.[3]
Stonecutting

Base block to Desert variant
Desert variant back to the base block
The Plains, Snow, Sparse Jungle and Swamp variants (Fake Grass Block (Plains), Fake Grass Block (Snow), Fake Grass Block (Sparse_jungle), Fake Grass Block (Swamp)) can be turned back into the base block in the same way.[3]
Unverified The recipe data I was given cuts off after a few entries, so I can't confirm the base-to-variant stonecutting recipes for Plains, Snow, Sparse Jungle and Swamp. They probably exist, but check in-game with a stonecutter.
Getting Grass Seed
Grass Seed is one of many possible results of a pack-added sifting recipe. That recipe also drops plenty of other seeds and crops, so it's a random outcome, not a guaranteed one. The recipe is below.[3]
Sifting (createsifter)
Recipe id: ftb:sifting/minecraft_dirt_with_cloth_mesh
Unverified What Grass Seed does once you have it, such as how it spreads or what it converts, isn't covered by the sources. I also have no drop chances, and no information on power, fluids, multiblocks or automation for this mod.
How do you progress through Just Another Grass Seed?
3 parts
Just Another Grass Seed doesn't have tiers in this pack. It's a short, single-step path: get Grass Seed, then make Fake Grass Blocks. Here is how the pack handles each step.[2][3]
Step 1: Get Grass Seed
The pack's quest book asks you for Grass Seed in the "the_beginning" chapter. That's quest a quest in "?", and it unlocks after another quest in the same chapter. Its task is simply to have the seed.[2]
The pack adds a sifting recipe that can drop Grass Seed. It shares its drop list with several other seeds and crops, so you may need a few runs.[3]

Grass Seed is one of several possible drops.
Step 2: Make Fake Grass Blocks
The pack adds two shapeless ways to make a plain Fake Grass Block. Either one works, so use whichever you can set up first.[3]
Step 3: Pick a biome look
Once you have a plain Fake Grass Block, the stonecutter turns it into biome-styled variants. The pack adds these recipes, and they include Fake Grass Block (Desert), Fake Grass Block (Snow), Fake Grass Block (Swamp), Fake Grass Block (Mushroom) and Fake Grass Block (Pale_garden).[3]
Stonecutting
Recipe id: minecraft:kjs/jags_desert_fake_grass_block
Example: plain block to Desert variant.
It also works in reverse. Each variant can go back to the plain block in the stonecutter, so you can switch looks freely.[3]
Example: Desert variant back to the plain block.
Unverified The sources don't show any further quests, tiers or gated content for this mod beyond the Grass Seed quest. Anything beyond the steps above is unconfirmed.
How does Just Another Grass Seed work with other mods?
4 parts
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.15.0 guide
This pack ties Just Another Grass Seed into several other mods through recipes it adds itself. These are the connections the pack's recipes and quests confirm.[4]
Getting Grass Seed by sifting dirt
The pack adds a Create Sifter recipe that sifts Dirt with a Mechanical Cloth Mesh. Grass Seed is one of the possible results.[4]
The same sift also gives seeds and crops from other mods, plus some vanilla items. The sources do not show drop chances.[4]
- Farmer's Delight: Cabbage Seeds, Rice Crops and Tomato Seeds.[4]
- Immersive Engineering: Industrial Hemp Seeds.[4]
- Integrated Dynamics: Menril Sapling.[4]
- Vanilla: Bamboo, Beetroot Seeds, Cocoa Beans, Melon Seeds, Pumpkin Seeds, Sugar Cane, Sweet Berries and Wheat Seeds.[4]
Sifting (createsifter)

Added by the pack: sifting dirt can give you Grass Seed.
Fake Grass Block with Create
The pack adds a shapeless crafting recipe for the Fake Grass Block. It connects the mod to Create, since the recipe uses Super Glue.[4]
Added by the pack.
Grass Seed and Ender IO
The pack also adds a Lychee item-inside recipe, grass_seed_from_dirt_water, that uses Grass Seed together with Grains of Infinity from Ender IO. The recipe dump lists no output for it.[4]

Quest link
In the "the_beginning" quest chapter, quest a quest in "?" has you hand in Grass Seed. It unlocks after another quest in the same chapter.[5]
Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Just Another Grass Seed?
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide
In this pack, the mod shows up in one quest, and it lives in the "the_beginning" chapter. It's an early-game quest, so you'll run into it near the start of your run.[6]
The quest is a quest in "?", and it has no title in the pack files. Its task is an item task: you hand in Grass Seed. That's all the quest asks for.[6]
It comes after the quest with the id 5FCEA8229BB6955C in the same chapter, so you need to finish that one first before this one unlocks.[6]
Unverified The sources don't say what the previous quest asks for, whether this quest gives a reward, or how you obtain Grass Seed in this pack. Check the in-game quest book for those details.
