What is Just Another Grass Seed?

2 parts

Just Another Grass Seed adds the Grass Seed item to the pack. This pack ships version 21.1.5, the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21.1, and it has been included since pack version 1.0.1 or earlier.[1]

Where it fits in the progression

You meet this mod right at the start. The opening questline, the chapter called "the_beginning", has a quest (a quest in "?") with an item task for Grass Seed. It is untitled in the quest book and unlocks after another quest in the same chapter.[2]

The mod is not on the ATM Star quest path, so you don't need to plan around it for that goal.[2]

What's not confirmed

Unverified The sources I have don't describe how the Grass Seed is obtained, how it is used, or whether the pack changes any of the mod's recipes or configs. There is no in-jar guidebook to check either. Look at the quest in game for hints until this section is expanded.

How do you get started with Just Another Grass Seed?

3 parts

The first steps with Just Another Grass Seed are short. In this pack the mod's first item, Grass Seed, is something you sift for, and after that you can move on to the Fake Grass Blocks.[3]

Step 1: Get Grass Seed by sifting dirt

The pack adds a sifting recipe that uses Mechanical Cloth Mesh on dirt, and Grass Seed is one of its possible drops. The same recipe also drops crop seeds, saplings and other items. The sources don't give drop chances, so I can't tell you how many tries it takes.[3]

Grass Seed is one of many possible outputs of this pack-added sifting recipe.

Keep an eye on your quest book too. A quest in the beginning chapter, a quest in "?", has an item task for Grass Seed. It comes after an earlier quest in that chapter.[2]

Step 2: Make a Fake Grass Block

The pack gives you two ways to craft the base Fake Grass Block. The first is a shapeless crafting recipe built around a regular grass block.[3]

The second is another pack-added shapeless recipe for the same block, so you have an alternative if the first doesn't suit you.[3]

Step 3: Pick a biome look with the stonecutter

Once you have the base block, the stonecutter turns it into biome variants. These include Fake Grass Block (Plains), Fake Grass Block (Snow), Fake Grass Block (Desert), Fake Grass Block (Swamp) and Fake Grass Block (Mushroom). Here is the Plains one as an example.[3]

The other variants follow the same pattern: Badlands, Birch, Cheery, Dark Forest, Jungle, Mangrove, Meadow, Ocean, Pale Garden and Sparse Jungle. You can also go back the other way, because each variant can be stonecut back into the base Fake Grass Block.[3]

Plains variant back to the base block. Every variant has its own matching stonecutting recipe in the pack.

Tip: Not sure which look you want yet? Make the base Fake Grass Block first. You can stonecut it into any variant and change your mind later.[3]

Unverified This mod has no in-jar guidebook and no item descriptions in its lang file that the sources here could show, so what Grass Seed does once you have it, and how the Fake Grass Blocks behave in the world, is not confirmed. Check in-game before relying on it.

How does Just Another Grass Seed work?

3 parts

Here's the honest picture for this mod: the sources I have only cover recipes. They don't describe any machines, multiblocks, power, fluid handling or automation for Just Another Grass Seed, so I won't make any up. What they do show is how you get the Fake Grass Block, its biome variants and the Grass Seed in this pack.[3]

Getting the Fake Grass Block

The basic Fake Grass Block has two crafting recipes in this pack, and both are added by the pack. One is a plain shapeless crafting recipe. The other is a shapeless recipe made through KubeJS.[3]

Biome variants via the stonecutter

The biome-flavoured Fake Grass Blocks are made in a stonecutter, using recipes the pack adds. You put in the plain Fake Grass Block and pick the variant you want. Variants shown in the sources include Fake Grass Block (Desert), Fake Grass Block (Jungle), Fake Grass Block (Mushroom) and Fake Grass Block (Ocean).[3]

Example: the stonecutter turns the plain Fake Grass Block into the Desert variant.

It works the other way too. Each variant shown in the sources has a stonecutter recipe that turns it back into the plain Fake Grass Block, so you can swap one variant for another without starting over. Go back to the plain block first, then cut it into the new variant.[3]

Tip: Changed your mind about a biome look? You don't need to craft a new block. Run the variant through the stonecutter to get the plain Fake Grass Block back, then cut it into whichever variant you want next.[3]

Getting Grass Seed

The pack makes Grass Seed one of the possible results of a sifting recipe that the pack adds. The same recipe can also give a range of other seeds, saplings and crops. The sources don't give drop chances, so I can't tell you how often the Grass Seed shows up.[3]

How do you progress through Just Another Grass Seed?

4 parts

Just Another Grass Seed has no tiers in this pack. Its progression is a short path: get a Grass Seed, make a Fake Grass Block, then convert that block into biome variants.[2][3]

Step 1: The quest

The Grass Seed has a quest in the "the_beginning" chapter. Quest a quest in "?" has a single task: hand in a Grass Seed. It unlocks after another quest in the same chapter.[2]

Step 2: Getting Grass Seed

The pack adds a sifting recipe: sift dirt with a Mechanical Cloth Mesh and the Grass Seed is one of the possible results. The same sift can also give you crop seeds, saplings and other items such as bamboo and sugar cane.[3]

Added by the pack. Grass Seed is one of many possible results of this sift.

Step 3: Fake Grass Block

The pack gives you two ways to make a Fake Grass Block. The first is a shapeless crafting recipe that turns a regular grass block into a fake one.[3]

Added by the pack: a shapeless recipe that starts from a grass block.

The second is also added by the pack. It is a shapeless recipe that does not need a grass block, so you can make fake grass from other materials.[3]

Shapeless (kubejs)

Recipe id: ftb:fake_grass_1

Added by the pack: an alternative shapeless recipe that does not use a grass block.

Step 4: Biome variants

Once you have a plain Fake Grass Block, the pack lets you switch it into a biome-themed version with a stonecutter. The variants include Fake Grass Block (Plains), Fake Grass Block (Desert), Fake Grass Block (Snow), Fake Grass Block (Jungle), Fake Grass Block (Swamp) and Fake Grass Block (Mushroom).[3]

There are more: Fake Grass Block (Badlands), Fake Grass Block (Birch), Fake Grass Block (Cheery), Fake Grass Block (Dark_forest), Fake Grass Block (Mangrove), Fake Grass Block (Meadow), Fake Grass Block (Ocean), Fake Grass Block (Pale_garden) and Fake Grass Block (Sparse_jungle).[3]

Each biome variant also has a stonecutting recipe back to the plain Fake Grass Block, so you can change your mind later. Here is the Plains variant as an example.[3]

Fake Grass Block (Plains)Added by the pack

Stonecutting

Recipe id: minecraft:kjs/jags_plains_fake_grass_block

Added by the pack: plain Fake Grass Block to the Plains variant in a stonecutter. The other variants have matching recipes.

Tip: If you build with one variant and later want another, stonecut it back into the plain Fake Grass Block first, then pick a new biome. The pack's recipes list a stonecutting route back to plain for every variant.[3]

How does Just Another Grass Seed work with other mods?

4 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.15.0 guide

This pack ties Just Another Grass Seed into several other mods through recipes it adds itself. These are the connections the pack's recipes and quests confirm.[4]

Getting Grass Seed by sifting dirt

The pack adds a Create Sifter recipe that sifts Dirt with a Mechanical Cloth Mesh. Grass Seed is one of the possible results.[4]

The same sift also gives seeds and crops from other mods, plus some vanilla items. The sources do not show drop chances.[4]

Sifting (createsifter)

Added by the pack: sifting dirt can give you Grass Seed.

Fake Grass Block with Create

The pack adds a shapeless crafting recipe for the Fake Grass Block. It connects the mod to Create, since the recipe uses Super Glue.[4]

Grass Seed and Ender IO

The pack also adds a Lychee item-inside recipe, grass_seed_from_dirt_water, that uses Grass Seed together with Grains of Infinity from Ender IO. The recipe dump lists no output for it.[4]

Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Just Another Grass Seed?

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

In this pack, the mod shows up in one quest, and it lives in the "the_beginning" chapter. It's an early-game quest, so you'll run into it near the start of your run.[6]

The quest is a quest in "?", and it has no title in the pack files. Its task is an item task: you hand in Grass Seed. That's all the quest asks for.[6]

It comes after the quest with the id 5FCEA8229BB6955C in the same chapter, so you need to finish that one first before this one unlocks.[6]

Unverified The sources don't say what the previous quest asks for, whether this quest gives a reward, or how you obtain Grass Seed in this pack. Check the in-game quest book for those details.
