What is Just Another Grass Seed?

1 part

Just Another Grass Seed adds a single item you'll care about in this pack: Grass Seed. The pack ships Just Another Grass Seed at version 21.1.5, using the jar built for Minecraft 1.21.1, and it has been in the pack since 1.0.1 or earlier.[1]

Where it fits in the progression

You meet the mod right at the start of the pack. In the early quest chapter called "the_beginning", the quest a quest in "?" has you obtain Grass Seed. It unlocks after an earlier quest in the same chapter, so you'll reach it as part of your first steps, not as late-game content.[2]

Tip: If you're following the questbook in order, the Grass Seed quest is an early checkpoint in "the_beginning", so check that chapter first when you want to find it.[2]

Unverified The sources don't cover how Grass Seed is obtained or crafted, what exactly it does in this pack, or any config options for the mod. Check in-game (for example the recipe viewer) before relying on any of those details. This site does hold FTB Skies 2's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How do you get started with Just Another Grass Seed?

3 parts

Just Another Grass Seed is a small mod, and in this pack your first steps with it come down to three things: getting Grass Seed, making a Fake Grass Block, and turning that block into one of the biome variants.[2][3]

Step 1: Get your Grass Seed

The pack adds a sifting recipe that can give you Grass Seed when you sift dirt with a Mechanical Cloth Mesh. The same recipe also drops many farming seeds and saplings, so Grass Seed is only one of the possible results. The recipe is below.[3]

Sifting (createsifter)

Recipe id: ftb:sifting/minecraft_dirt_with_cloth_mesh

Added by the pack. Grass Seed is one of several possible results.

Grass Seed also matters for questing: the quest a quest in "?" in the "the_beginning" chapter has the Grass Seed item as its task, and it unlocks after an earlier quest in that chapter.[2]

Step 2: Craft a Fake Grass Block

The pack gives you two ways to make a Fake Grass Block. The first is a shapeless recipe that turns a normal grass block into a fake one. The second is a different shapeless recipe that does not need a grass block.[3]

The alternative shapeless recipe added by the pack, for when you have no grass block.

Step 3: Pick a biome variant

Once you have a plain Fake Grass Block, the pack lets you change it in a stonecutter into biome variants such as Fake Grass Block (Plains), Fake Grass Block (Swamp), Fake Grass Block (Snow) and Fake Grass Block (Desert). Other variants include Badlands, Birch, Cheery, Dark Forest, Jungle, Mangrove, Meadow, Mushroom, Ocean, Pale Garden and Sparse Jungle.[3]

Fake Grass Block (Swamp)Added by the pack

Stonecutting

Example: the swamp variant, a stonecutting recipe added by the pack. The other variants have their own stonecutting recipes.

Tip: Changes are reversible. Each variant can go back to the plain Fake Grass Block in the stonecutter, so you can try a variant and switch again without losing the block.[3]

How does Just Another Grass Seed work?

3 parts

Just Another Grass Seed is a very small mod in this pack. The sources I have show no machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or automation for it. All I can confirm is how its items are obtained and converted, so this section stays short.[3]

Fake Grass Blocks

The base Fake Grass Block has two shapeless crafting recipes added by the pack. The first turns a plain grass block into a fake one. The second is an alternative that doesn't use a grass block.[3]

Biome variants via the stonecutter

The biome-themed variants are made in a stonecutter, not a crafting grid. Put the base Fake Grass Block in and pick the variant you want. The pack adds stonecutting recipes for variants such as Fake Grass Block (Badlands), Fake Grass Block (Birch), Fake Grass Block (Cheery), Fake Grass Block (Dark_forest), Fake Grass Block (Desert), Fake Grass Block (Jungle), Fake Grass Block (Mangrove), Fake Grass Block (Meadow), Fake Grass Block (Mushroom), Fake Grass Block (Ocean) and Fake Grass Block (Pale_garden).[3]

Fake Grass Block (Desert)Added by the pack

Stonecutting

Recipe id: minecraft:kjs/jags_desert_fake_grass_block

Example: the base block cut into the desert variant by a stonecutting recipe the pack adds.

Every variant also has a stonecutting recipe back to the base block, so you can swap between looks freely. This covers Fake Grass Block (Plains), Fake Grass Block (Snow), Fake Grass Block (Sparse_jungle) and Fake Grass Block (Swamp) as well. If you have a stack of the wrong variant, run it through the stonecutter to get the base block back.[3]

Getting Grass Seed

Grass Seed comes from sifting. The pack adds a sifting recipe where you sift dirt with a Mechanical Cloth Mesh (Mechanical Cloth Mesh). Grass Seed is one of many possible outputs, alongside seeds and crops from other mods and vanilla.[3]

How do you progress through Just Another Grass Seed?

3 parts

Just Another Grass Seed has no tiers in this pack. The sources show one quest that touches it and a handful of recipes the pack added, so progression is a short path: get the Grass Seed, make a Fake Grass Block, then pick a biome look.[2][3]

Step 1: Get the Grass Seed

The quest a quest in "?" in the "the_beginning" chapter has you obtain Grass Seed. It comes after another quest in the quest book.[2]

The pack gets you the seed through sifting. Sift dirt with a Mechanical Cloth Mesh and Grass Seed is one of the possible results. The same sift can also give crops and saplings such as Cabbage Seeds, Rice, Tomato Seeds and Menril Sapling. The sources don't list drop chances, so I can't tell you how many sifts it takes.[3]

Sifting (createsifter)

Recipe id: ftb:sifting/minecraft_dirt_with_cloth_mesh

This sifting recipe was added by the pack.

Step 2: Make a Fake Grass Block

The pack gives you two ways to get a Fake Grass Block. Both are shapeless recipes added by the pack. The first turns a regular grass block into a Fake Grass Block.[3]

Shapeless (kubejs)

Recipe id: ftb:fake_grass

The second uses Super Glue, dirt and moss carpet, so you can make one without a grass block.[3]

Recipe id: ftb:fake_grass_1

Step 3: Pick a biome look

Once you have a plain Fake Grass Block, the pack lets you change its biome look with stonecutting. Every variant can be cut from the plain block, and every variant can be cut back into the plain block. The sources don't show a direct conversion between two variants, so go through the plain block.[3]

Fake Grass Block (Desert)Added by the pack

Stonecutting

Recipe id: minecraft:kjs/jags_desert_fake_grass_block

One example of the stonecutting conversions added by the pack. The other variants have their own matching recipes.

Tip: Because every variant can be cut back into the plain Fake Grass Block, you can change your mind about a biome look later without losing the block.[3]

How does Just Another Grass Seed work with other mods?

4 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.15.0 guide

This pack ties Just Another Grass Seed into several other mods through recipes it adds itself. These are the connections the pack's recipes and quests confirm.[4]

Getting Grass Seed by sifting dirt

The pack adds a Create Sifter recipe that sifts Dirt with a Mechanical Cloth Mesh. Grass Seed is one of the possible results.[4]

The same sift also gives seeds and crops from other mods, plus some vanilla items. The sources do not show drop chances.[4]

Sifting (createsifter)

Recipe id: ftb:sifting/minecraft_dirt_with_cloth_mesh

Added by the pack: sifting dirt can give you Grass Seed.

Fake Grass Block with Create

The pack adds a shapeless crafting recipe for the Fake Grass Block. It connects the mod to Create, since the recipe uses Super Glue.[4]

Grass Seed and Ender IO

The pack also adds a Lychee item-inside recipe, grass_seed_from_dirt_water, that uses Grass Seed together with Grains of Infinity from Ender IO. The recipe dump lists no output for it.[4]

In the "the_beginning" quest chapter, quest a quest in "?" has you hand in Grass Seed. It unlocks after another quest in the same chapter.[5]

Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Just Another Grass Seed?

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

In this pack, the mod shows up in one quest, and it lives in the "the_beginning" chapter. It's an early-game quest, so you'll run into it near the start of your run.[6]

The quest is a quest in "?", and it has no title in the pack files. Its task is an item task: you hand in Grass Seed. That's all the quest asks for.[6]

It comes after the quest with the id 5FCEA8229BB6955C in the same chapter, so you need to finish that one first before this one unlocks.[6]

Unverified The sources don't say what the previous quest asks for, whether this quest gives a reward, or how you obtain Grass Seed in this pack. Check the in-game quest book for those details.
