What is Just Another Grass Seed?

1 part

This pack includes Just Another Grass Seed, version 21.1.5, and its item is Grass Seed. The mod has been in the pack since FTB Skies 2 1.4.0 or earlier, so it isn't a new addition.[1]

Where the quest book puts it

The pack's quest book places the Grass Seed in the "the_beginning" chapter. The quest a quest in "?" has no title, and its task is to hand in Grass Seed.[2]

That quest comes right after a quest in "?" in the same chapter, so you reach it by finishing that quest first.[2]

Unverified The sources here do not show whether the ATM Star path uses this mod, and they do not show which quest group it sits in.

How do you get started with Just Another Grass Seed?

3 parts

Just Another Grass Seed is a small mod, and in this pack it comes down to two things: getting Grass Seed and crafting Fake Grass Block. Here's the order I'd tackle them in.[3]

Step 1: Get your Grass Seed

The pack adds a sifting recipe that can drop Grass Seed. It shares its result list with many other seeds and saplings, so the Grass Seed is one possible result rather than a guaranteed one. The recipe is below.[3]

Sifting (createsifter)

Recipe id: ftb:sifting/minecraft_dirt_with_cloth_mesh

Sifting recipe added by the pack that can give Grass Seed.

Grass Seed also has its own quest in the the_beginning chapter: a quest in "?". The quest task is to obtain the seed.[2]

Step 2: Craft a Fake Grass Block

The pack gives you two shapeless ways to make Fake Grass Block. The first converts a normal grass block. The second is an alternative that doesn't use a grass block.[3]

Shapeless (kubejs)

Shapeless recipe added by the pack: converts a grass block.

Second shapeless recipe added by the pack, with no grass block needed.

Step 3: Pick a biome look

Once you have a plain Fake Grass Block, the pack lets you change its look in a stonecutter. There are variants such as Fake Grass Block (Desert), Fake Grass Block (Snow), Fake Grass Block (Swamp) and Fake Grass Block (Meadow). Each variant can be turned back into the plain block in the stonecutter, so you can change your mind later.[3]

How does Just Another Grass Seed work?

3 parts

Here's the honest picture for Just Another Grass Seed: in this pack, the sources only show items and recipes for this mod. There are no machines, multiblocks, power, fluid or item-handling systems documented, so this section is short and covers how you get and convert the mod's items.[3]

Getting Fake Grass Blocks

The pack adds two shapeless crafting recipes for the base Fake Grass Block. The first turns a regular grass block straight into a Fake Grass Block.[3]

Fake Grass BlockAdded by the pack

Shapeless (kubejs)

Recipe id: ftb:fake_grass

Shapeless recipe added by the pack.

The second route skips the grass block and uses Super Glue instead, so you don't have to spend a real grass block.[3]

Shapeless (kubejs)

Recipe id: ftb:fake_grass_1

Second shapeless recipe added by the pack.

Biome variants and the stonecutter

The mod has a whole set of biome-tinted Fake Grass Blocks, and the pack handles them with stonecutting recipes. You put the base Fake Grass Block in a stonecutter to get a variant such as Fake Grass Block (Badlands), Fake Grass Block (Birch), Fake Grass Block (Cheery), Fake Grass Block (Dark_forest), Fake Grass Block (Desert), Fake Grass Block (Jungle), Fake Grass Block (Mangrove), Fake Grass Block (Meadow), Fake Grass Block (Mushroom), Fake Grass Block (Ocean) or Fake Grass Block (Pale_garden).[3]

Stonecutting

Recipe id: minecraft:kjs/jags_badlands_fake_grass_block

Example: base block to the Badlands variant, added by the pack.

It works in reverse too. Every variant, including Fake Grass Block (Plains), Fake Grass Block (Snow), Fake Grass Block (Sparse_jungle) and Fake Grass Block (Swamp), has a stonecutting recipe back into the base block. So you can switch a build from one biome look to another by going through the base block.[3]

Example: Plains variant back to the base block, added by the pack.

Getting Grass Seed

Grass Seed comes from sifting. The pack adds a sifting recipe where dirt is sifted with a Mechanical Cloth Mesh (Mechanical Cloth Mesh). Grass Seed is only one of many possible results, alongside crops like wheat seeds, melon seeds and pumpkin seeds.[3]

Sifting (createsifter)

Recipe id: ftb:sifting/minecraft_dirt_with_cloth_mesh

Sifting recipe added by the pack; Grass Seed is one of its many outputs.

Unverified What Grass Seed does once you have it (placement, spreading or any crafting use) isn't shown here. The sources include no in-jar guidebook, no item tooltips and no config files for this mod, so I can't say how it behaves in this pack.

How do you progress through Just Another Grass Seed?

3 parts

Just Another Grass Seed is a short path in this pack, not a ladder of tiers. You get Grass Seed, then turn dirt-style blocks into Fake Grass Blocks and switch between biome variants.[2][3]

Step 1: Get Grass Seed

The mod has one quest in the "the_beginning" chapter, a quest in "?". Its task is to obtain Grass Seed, and it comes after another quest in the quest book.[2]

The pack adds a sifting recipe that can give you the seed. Grass Seed is only one of many possible outputs, which also include crop seeds, saplings and other items.[3]

Sifting (createsifter)

Recipe id: ftb:sifting/minecraft_dirt_with_cloth_mesh

Added by the pack. Grass Seed is one of several possible outputs of this sifting recipe.

Step 2: Make Fake Grass Blocks

The pack adds two shapeless crafting routes to the plain Fake Grass Block.[3]

Step 3: Switch biome variants

Once you have a plain Fake Grass Block, the pack lets you convert it into biome variants in the stonecutter. Examples include Fake Grass Block (Desert), Fake Grass Block (Snow), Fake Grass Block (Swamp), Fake Grass Block (Mushroom) and Fake Grass Block (Pale_garden). The other variants follow the same pattern.[3]

Fake Grass Block (Desert)Added by the pack

Stonecutting

Example of the stonecutting pattern, added by the pack. Each biome variant has its own recipe like this.

Conversion also works in reverse. Each variant can go back to the plain Fake Grass Block in the stonecutter, so you can change your mind later.[3]

How does Just Another Grass Seed work with other mods?

3 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

This pack connects Just Another Grass Seed to other mods through three custom recipes, all added by the pack. Here is what each one does.[4]

Sifting for Grass Seed

The pack adds a Create Sifter sifting recipe where dirt and a Mechanical Cloth Mesh can give you Grass Seed. The same recipe lists seeds and crops from several other mods among its results.[4]

Sifting (createsifter)

Recipe id: ftb:sifting/minecraft_dirt_with_cloth_mesh

Pack-added sifting recipe. Grass Seed is one of the listed results.

In the pack's quest book, the quest a quest in "?" in the the_beginning chapter has an item task for Grass Seed. It comes after another quest in that chapter.[5]

Fake Grass Block

The pack adds a shapeless crafting recipe for the Fake Grass Block that uses Super Glue from Create. The recipe is below.[4]

Fake Grass BlockAdded by the pack

Shapeless (kubejs)

Recipe id: ftb:fake_grass_1

Shapeless recipe added by the pack.

Grass Seed and Grains of Infinity

The third link is a Lychee recipe added by the pack, with the id grass_seed_from_dirt_water. It is an item-inside type recipe that takes Grains of Infinity, Grass Seed and Dirt as inputs.[4]

Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Just Another Grass Seed?

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

In this pack, the mod shows up in one quest, and it lives in the "the_beginning" chapter. It's an early-game quest, so you'll run into it near the start of your run.[5]

The quest is a quest in "?", and it has no title in the pack files. Its task is an item task: you hand in Grass Seed. That's all the quest asks for.[5]

It comes after the quest with the id 5FCEA8229BB6955C in the same chapter, so you need to finish that one first before this one unlocks.[5]

Unverified The sources don't say what the previous quest asks for, whether this quest gives a reward, or how you obtain Grass Seed in this pack. Check the in-game quest book for those details.
