What is Just Another Grass Seed?

1 part

Just Another Grass Seed adds the Grass Seed item to the pack. The pack ships version 21.1.5 of the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21.1, and the mod has been in the pack since 1.0.1 or earlier.[1]

Where it fits in progression

You meet this mod early. In the "the_beginning" quest chapter, quest a quest in "?" has Grass Seed as its task. It unlocks after another quest in the same chapter, so you'll reach it as part of your first steps.[2]

Unverified The sources don't describe how Grass Seed is used, how you get it, or whether the pack changes any of its recipes or configs. Check the quest in-game for hints before relying on a method.

How do you get started with Just Another Grass Seed?

3 parts

Just Another Grass Seed is a small mod, and in this pack it gives you two things to care about: the Grass Seed item and the Fake Grass Block family. Here's the order I'd tackle them in.[2][3]

Step 1: Get a Grass Seed

You don't craft Grass Seed. In this pack it's one of the possible results of a sifting recipe the pack added. That same recipe can also give you farming items like seeds, rice, bamboo and sugar cane. The block below shows exactly what the sifter needs.[3]

Sifting (createsifter)

Sifting recipe added by the pack. Grass Seed is one of several possible results.

Grabbing the seed is also worth it for progression. The quest a quest in "?" in the the_beginning chapter has you obtain Grass Seed, and it unlocks after an earlier quest in that chapter.[2]

Step 2: Craft a Fake Grass Block

Next up is Fake Grass Block. The pack gives you two ways to craft it. Both are shown below, so use whichever is easier for you to put together right now.[3]

Step 3: Switch biome looks with a stonecutter

Once you have a plain Fake Grass Block, you can turn it into a biome variant with a stonecutter. The pack adds stonecutting recipes for variants such as Fake Grass Block (Plains), Fake Grass Block (Jungle), Fake Grass Block (Snow), Fake Grass Block (Desert), Fake Grass Block (Swamp) and Fake Grass Block (Mushroom). There are more, including badlands, birch, cheery, dark forest, mangrove, meadow, ocean, pale garden and sparse jungle.[3]

Tip: Every variant also has a stonecutting recipe back to the plain Fake Grass Block. If you pick the wrong biome look, you can switch back and try again.[3]

How does Just Another Grass Seed work?

3 parts

Here's the honest picture for this mod: the pack data I have shows no machines, multiblocks, power use or fluid handling for Just Another Grass Seed. What it does show is a small set of crafting, stonecutting and sifting recipes around Fake Grass Block and Grass Seed. That's all I can explain in depth.[3]

Getting the base Fake Grass Block

The pack gives you two shapeless crafting routes to the plain Fake Grass Block, so you don't need a specific layout. One uses a grass block. The other uses Super Glue together with dirt and moss carpet. Both recipes are added by the pack.[3]

Biome variants through the stonecutter

Biome variants are stonecutter recipes added by the pack, not crafting grid ones. The variants available from the plain Fake Grass Block include Fake Grass Block (Badlands), Fake Grass Block (Birch), Fake Grass Block (Cheery), Fake Grass Block (Dark_forest), Fake Grass Block (Desert), Fake Grass Block (Jungle), Fake Grass Block (Mangrove), Fake Grass Block (Meadow), Fake Grass Block (Mushroom) and Fake Grass Block (Ocean).[3]

The reverse direction exists too. Every variant has a stonecutting recipe back to the plain block, including Fake Grass Block (Plains), Fake Grass Block (Snow), Fake Grass Block (Swamp), Fake Grass Block (Sparse_jungle) and Fake Grass Block (Pale_garden).[3]

Where Grass Seed comes from

The pack has a sifting recipe where dirt and a Mechanical Cloth Mesh can give you Grass Seed. The same recipe lists other possible outputs, such as farming seeds and saplings. Grass Seed is one of the possible outputs of that recipe.[3]

Sifting (createsifter)

Pack sifting recipe: dirt with a cloth mesh, Grass Seed is one possible output.

Unverified What Grass Seed does once you have it, how the Fake Grass Blocks behave in the world, and whether the mod has any config options are not shown by the sources here. No guidebook, tooltips, config files or documentation were available for this mod.

How do you progress through Just Another Grass Seed?

4 parts

In this pack, Just Another Grass Seed has a short progression chain rather than a set of tiers: get Grass Seed, make a plain Fake Grass Block, then turn it into biome variants.[2][3]

Step 1: The quest

The quest book has an untitled quest, a quest in "?", in the_beginning chapter. Its task is to obtain Grass Seed. It unlocks after another quest in the same chapter, so you finish that one first.[2]

Step 2: Getting Grass Seed

The pack adds a Create Sifter recipe that can give you Grass Seed when you sift dirt with a Mechanical Cloth Mesh. Grass Seed is one of many possible results from that recipe, alongside crop seeds, a sapling and a few other items.[3]

Step 3: Fake Grass Blocks

The pack gives you two ways to make a plain Fake Grass Block. One is a shapeless recipe that starts from a grass block. The other is a shapeless recipe that uses Super Glue, dirt and moss carpet.[3]

Step 4: Biome variants

Once you have a plain Fake Grass Block, you can turn it into a biome variant in the stonecutter. Every variant can also be cut back into the plain block, so you can change your mind later. All of these stonecutting recipes are added by the pack.[3]

How does Just Another Grass Seed work with other mods?

4 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.15.0 guide

This pack ties Just Another Grass Seed into several other mods through recipes it adds itself. These are the connections the pack's recipes and quests confirm.[4]

Getting Grass Seed by sifting dirt

The pack adds a Create Sifter recipe that sifts Dirt with a Mechanical Cloth Mesh. Grass Seed is one of the possible results.[4]

The same sift also gives seeds and crops from other mods, plus some vanilla items. The sources do not show drop chances.[4]

Sifting (createsifter)

Recipe id: ftb:sifting/minecraft_dirt_with_cloth_mesh

Added by the pack: sifting dirt can give you Grass Seed.

Fake Grass Block with Create

The pack adds a shapeless crafting recipe for the Fake Grass Block. It connects the mod to Create, since the recipe uses Super Glue.[4]

Grass Seed and Ender IO

The pack also adds a Lychee item-inside recipe, grass_seed_from_dirt_water, that uses Grass Seed together with Grains of Infinity from Ender IO. The recipe dump lists no output for it.[4]

In the "the_beginning" quest chapter, quest a quest in "?" has you hand in Grass Seed. It unlocks after another quest in the same chapter.[5]

Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Just Another Grass Seed?

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

In this pack, the mod shows up in one quest, and it lives in the "the_beginning" chapter. It's an early-game quest, so you'll run into it near the start of your run.[6]

The quest is a quest in "?", and it has no title in the pack files. Its task is an item task: you hand in Grass Seed. That's all the quest asks for.[6]

It comes after the quest with the id 5FCEA8229BB6955C in the same chapter, so you need to finish that one first before this one unlocks.[6]

Unverified The sources don't say what the previous quest asks for, whether this quest gives a reward, or how you obtain Grass Seed in this pack. Check the in-game quest book for those details.
