What is Just Another Grass Seed?

1 part

Just Another Grass Seed is a small mod that adds a single item you'll meet in this pack: Grass Seed. The pack ships version 21.1.5, built for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.1, and it has been included since 1.0.1 or earlier.[1]

Where it fits in the progression

You run into the mod right at the start. a quest in "?" sits in the "the_beginning" chapter and unlocks after an earlier quest in that chapter. Its task is to obtain Grass Seed. The quest has no title in the quest data, so it shows up only by its ID.[2]

Because that chapter is the opening one, this is an early-game item. It is not something you have to wait for.[2]

Unverified The sources I have don't describe how the Grass Seed is obtained or used, what it does when placed, or whether the pack changed any recipes or configs for this mod. Check the in-game quest and item tooltip before relying on any particular behavior. The mod is also not on the ATM Star quest path.

How do you get started with Just Another Grass Seed?

1 part

The first thing to do with this mod is get your hands on a Grass Seed. In this pack you don't craft it at a table. It comes out of a sifting recipe that the pack added, so you need to be set up for sifting before you can get one.[3]

Sifting (createsifter)

Recipe id: ftb:sifting/minecraft_dirt_with_cloth_mesh

The in-pack sifting recipe that can give you Grass Seed.

Grass Seed is only one of many possible results from this recipe. The same sift can also give you other seeds, a sapling, bamboo, sugar cane, cocoa beans and sweet berries. Expect to run it several times before the seed shows up. The sources don't give drop chances, so I can't say how many tries it takes.[3]

You'll also find Grass Seed in the questbook. In the "the_beginning" chapter, quest a quest in "?" asks you to obtain it, and it unlocks after another quest in that chapter. That makes it an early goal in this pack, so you can follow the quest line as your guide.[2]

What it does

Unverified The sources don't say what Grass Seed does once you have it, or how to use it. There is no in-jar guide or item description to confirm it. Check the item's tooltip in-game before relying on any particular use.

How does Just Another Grass Seed work?

2 parts

There isn't much to the mechanics of this mod in the pack, and I'd rather tell you that than pad it out. The only thing I can confirm is how you get Grass Seed: the pack adds a sifting recipe that can drop it.[3]

Getting Grass Seed

The pack added this recipe itself. It is a sifting recipe, and Grass Seed is one of the possible results. The same recipe can also give you other seeds and plants, including cabbage, tomato, industrial hemp, bamboo, sugar cane, sweet berries and the usual vanilla seeds. Here is the exact recipe as the pack has it:[3]

Sifting (createsifter)

Recipe id: ftb:sifting/minecraft_dirt_with_cloth_mesh

Added by the pack. Grass Seed is one of several possible outputs.

Grass Seed isn't a guaranteed drop. You're rolling among many outputs from this recipe, so expect to sift more than once.[3]

What the sources don't cover

Unverified I couldn't confirm the drop chance for Grass Seed, what it does when used, or whether the mod adds any machines, multiblocks, power, fluid or item-automation features. The pack has no config files for this mod, and I found no in-jar guidebook or tooltip text to check against.

How do you progress through Just Another Grass Seed?

2 parts

Just Another Grass Seed doesn't have tiers of its own in this pack. It adds one item, Grass Seed, and the pack gives it a place early in the questline and a way to get it through sifting.[2][3]

Where it shows up in the quests

The item appears in the "the_beginning" chapter. Quest a quest in "?" has a single task: have a Grass Seed. It unlocks after another quest in the same chapter is done, so you meet it in the opening stretch of the pack.[2]

How you get it

The pack adds a Create Sifter recipe that gives you Grass Seed as one possible result. It shares that recipe with a spread of other early seeds and plants, including wheat seeds, pumpkin seeds, melon seeds and sugar cane. The exact recipe is below.[3]

Sifting (createsifter)

Recipe id: ftb:sifting/minecraft_dirt_with_cloth_mesh

Added by the pack. Grass Seed is one of several possible results.

Tip: Sifting gives several different outputs, so you may need to repeat the recipe a few times before a Grass Seed drops and you can finish the quest.[2][3]

Unverified The sources I have don't show any later quests or higher-tier recipes that use Grass Seed, and they don't give drop chances for the sifting recipe. Treat anything beyond the early quest and this sifting recipe as unconfirmed.

How does Just Another Grass Seed work with other mods?

3 parts

Just Another Grass Seed doesn't add much on its own, so the pack ties Grass Seed into other mods through two recipes it added itself. One is a sifting recipe, the other is a Lychee recipe. Both are custom to this pack, so you won't find them in the mods' default content.[3]

Getting Grass Seed by sifting dirt

The pack adds a sifting recipe (the type is createsifter:sifting) that takes Dirt and a Mechanical Cloth Mesh. Grass Seed is one of the possible results, so sifting dirt is a way to get it.[3]

Sifting (createsifter)

Recipe id: ftb:sifting/minecraft_dirt_with_cloth_mesh

Grass Seed is one of many possible outputs.

The same sifting recipe also lists seeds and crops from several other mods as possible outputs. Here is everything it can give you:[3]

The sources don't show drop chances for any of these outputs, so I can't tell you how often Grass Seed turns up compared with the others.[3]

The Lychee recipe with Grains of Infinity

The pack also adds a Lychee recipe of the type lychee:item_inside. It uses Grains of Infinity, Grass Seed and Dirt together. This is the link between the grass seed and Ender IO.[3]

Added by the pack

Item Inside (lychee)

Recipe id: ftb:lychee/grass_seed_from_dirt_water

Added by the pack.

Unverified The recipe dump lists no output for the Lychee recipe, so what it produces and the exact in-world setup (the recipe id mentions water) are unconfirmed here. Check the recipe block above or test it in the pack before relying on it.

Quest tie-in

In the pack's early-game quest chapter "the_beginning", quest a quest in "?" has you obtain Grass Seed. It unlocks after another quest in that chapter, so getting Grass Seed is part of the early progression.[2]

Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Just Another Grass Seed?

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

In this pack, the mod shows up in one quest, and it lives in the "the_beginning" chapter. It's an early-game quest, so you'll run into it near the start of your run.[4]

The quest is a quest in "?", and it has no title in the pack files. Its task is an item task: you hand in Grass Seed. That's all the quest asks for.[4]

It comes after the quest with the id 5FCEA8229BB6955C in the same chapter, so you need to finish that one first before this one unlocks.[4]

Unverified The sources don't say what the previous quest asks for, whether this quest gives a reward, or how you obtain Grass Seed in this pack. Check the in-game quest book for those details.
