What is Just Another Grass Seed?
1 part
Just Another Grass Seed adds a single item you'll meet very early: Grass Seed. The pack ships version 21.1.5 of the mod, built for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.1.[1][2]
It's been in the pack since 1.0.1 or earlier, so it's a long-standing part of the early game rather than a recent addition.[1]
Where it fits in progression
You run into the Grass Seed right at the start, in the chapter called "the_beginning". Quest a quest in "?" has you obtain Grass Seed, and it unlocks after another quest in the same chapter.[2]
That puts the mod squarely in the first steps of the pack, so it's aimed at everyone starting a new world, not only experienced players.[2]
Unverified The sources don't describe how the Grass Seed is obtained or used, or whether the pack changed any recipes or configs for this mod. Check the quest in-game before relying on any details.
How do you get started with Just Another Grass Seed?
3 parts
The Just Another Grass Seed part of this pack is short and sweet. There are only a few things to do, and they go in a clear order.[2][3]
First, get your Grass Seed
Your first target is Grass Seed. It is the task of quest a quest in "?" in the_beginning chapter, and that quest unlocks after another quest, so you will meet it early on.[2]
In this pack you get it from sifting. The pack added a sifting recipe whose possible results include Grass Seed alongside a lot of other seeds and crops. The recipe below shows the exact inputs. The sources here do not give drop chances.[3]
Sifting (createsifter)
Recipe id: ftb:sifting/minecraft_dirt_with_cloth_mesh
Added by the pack. Grass Seed is one of several possible results.
Next, make a Fake Grass Block
After that comes Fake Grass Block. The pack gives you two shapeless crafting recipes for it, so you can pick whichever is easier right now.[3]
First route, added by the pack.
Second route, also added by the pack.
Then, swap it into a biome variant
Once you have the base block, you can turn it into biome themed versions. The pack has a stonecutting recipe for each one, including Fake Grass Block (Plains), Fake Grass Block (Desert), Fake Grass Block (Snow), Fake Grass Block (Swamp) and Fake Grass Block (Mushroom). There are more too: Badlands, Birch, Cheery, Dark Forest, Jungle, Mangrove, Meadow, Ocean, Pale Garden and Sparse Jungle.[3]

Every biome variant follows the same pattern: base block in, variant out.
Example: the Ocean variant cut back into the base block.
How does Just Another Grass Seed work?
3 parts
Here's the honest picture: the sources for this pack show no machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or automation for Just Another Grass Seed. What they do show is Grass Seed and a family of Fake Grass Blocks, so the only mechanics I can confirm are how you obtain and convert them.[3]
Getting Grass Seed
In this pack, Grass Seed is one of the possible results of a sifting recipe that the pack adds. It sits in a long result list alongside many farming seeds and crops. The source doesn't give drop chances, so I can't tell you how rare it is.[3]
Sifting (createsifter)

Sifting dirt with the Mechanical Cloth Mesh can give Grass Seed among many other results.
Making the base Fake Grass Block
The pack gives you two shapeless recipes for the plain Fake Grass Block, so the layout in the crafting grid doesn't matter. Both are added by the pack.[3]
The first shapeless route to the plain Fake Grass Block.
The second shapeless route, which uses Super Glue.
Switching biome variants with the stonecutter
The biome variants are handled by the stonecutter, using recipes added by the pack. Put the plain Fake Grass Block in and you can pick a variant as the output. These are the variants whose plain-to-variant recipes I can confirm:[3]
- Fake Grass Block (Badlands), Fake Grass Block (Birch) and Fake Grass Block (Cheery)[3]
- Fake Grass Block (Dark_forest), Fake Grass Block (Desert) and Fake Grass Block (Jungle)[3]
- Fake Grass Block (Mangrove), Fake Grass Block (Meadow) and Fake Grass Block (Mushroom)[3]
- Fake Grass Block (Ocean) and Fake Grass Block (Pale_garden)[3]
The conversion also works in reverse. Every variant, including Fake Grass Block (Plains), Fake Grass Block (Snow), Fake Grass Block (Sparse_jungle) and Fake Grass Block (Swamp), can go into the stonecutter to give you the plain Fake Grass Block again. To change one variant into another, use the plain block as the middle step.[3]
Stonecutting

Example: plain block to the Desert variant. The other variants shown in the recipe dump follow the same stonecutting pattern.
Example of the reverse step: the Desert variant back to the plain block.
Unverified What Grass Seed does when used and how the Fake Grass Blocks behave in the world are not shown by the sources here: there is no in-jar guidebook, no lang tooltips and no config files for this mod in the pack.
How do you progress through Just Another Grass Seed?
3 parts
Just Another Grass Seed doesn't have tiers in this pack. It has one quest and a small set of crafting steps, so the path is short: get the seed, then make Fake Grass Blocks and swap them between biome looks.[2][3]
Step 1: The quest and the Grass Seed
The mod's only appearance in the quest book is in The Beginning chapter. Quest a quest in "?" has no title and asks you to obtain Grass Seed. It unlocks after quest a quest in "?".[2]
The pack adds a sifting recipe that can give you the seed. You sift dirt with a Mechanical Cloth Mesh, and Grass Seed is one of many possible results. That list also includes farming seeds, bamboo, sugar cane and sweet berries. The sources don't give drop chances, so I can't tell you how many tries it takes.[3]

Step 2: Fake Grass Block
The pack adds two shapeless recipes for Fake Grass Block. Both are added by the pack. The first turns a regular grass block into the fake one, and the second is a different route, shown below.[3]
Pack-added shapeless recipe for the plain Fake Grass Block.
Second pack-added shapeless recipe for the plain Fake Grass Block.
Step 3: Biome variants
Once you have a plain Fake Grass Block, the pack lets you convert it in a stonecutter into the biome variants listed below. Each variant also converts back to the plain block, so you can change your mind later.[3]
- Fake Grass Block (Badlands), Fake Grass Block (Desert) and Fake Grass Block (Mushroom)[3]
- Fake Grass Block (Birch), Fake Grass Block (Cheery) and Fake Grass Block (Dark_forest)[3]
- Fake Grass Block (Jungle), Fake Grass Block (Sparse_jungle) and Fake Grass Block (Mangrove)[3]
- Fake Grass Block (Meadow), Fake Grass Block (Plains) and Fake Grass Block (Pale_garden)[3]
- Fake Grass Block (Ocean), Fake Grass Block (Snow) and Fake Grass Block (Swamp)[3]

How does Just Another Grass Seed work with other mods?
4 parts
This pack ties Just Another Grass Seed into several other mods through recipes it adds itself. These are the connections the pack's recipes and quests confirm.[3]
Getting Grass Seed by sifting dirt
The pack adds a Create Sifter recipe that sifts Dirt with a Mechanical Cloth Mesh. Grass Seed is one of the possible results.[3]
The same sift also gives seeds and crops from other mods, plus some vanilla items. The sources do not show drop chances.[3]
- Farmer's Delight: Cabbage Seeds, Rice Crops and Tomato Seeds.[3]
- Immersive Engineering: Industrial Hemp Seeds.[3]
- Integrated Dynamics: Menril Sapling.[3]
- Vanilla: Bamboo, Beetroot Seeds, Cocoa Beans, Melon Seeds, Pumpkin Seeds, Sugar Cane, Sweet Berries and Wheat Seeds.[3]
Sifting (createsifter)

Added by the pack: sifting dirt can give you Grass Seed.
Fake Grass Block with Create
The pack adds a shapeless crafting recipe for the Fake Grass Block. It connects the mod to Create, since the recipe uses Super Glue.[3]
Added by the pack.
Grass Seed and Ender IO
The pack also adds a Lychee item-inside recipe, grass_seed_from_dirt_water, that uses Grass Seed together with Grains of Infinity from Ender IO. The recipe dump lists no output for it.[3]

Quest link
In the "the_beginning" quest chapter, quest a quest in "?" has you hand in Grass Seed. It unlocks after another quest in the same chapter.[2]
Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Just Another Grass Seed?
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide
In this pack, the mod shows up in one quest, and it lives in the "the_beginning" chapter. It's an early-game quest, so you'll run into it near the start of your run.[4]
The quest is a quest in "?", and it has no title in the pack files. Its task is an item task: you hand in Grass Seed. That's all the quest asks for.[4]
It comes after the quest with the id 5FCEA8229BB6955C in the same chapter, so you need to finish that one first before this one unlocks.[4]
Unverified The sources don't say what the previous quest asks for, whether this quest gives a reward, or how you obtain Grass Seed in this pack. Check the in-game quest book for those details.
