What is Just Another Grass Seed?
2 parts
Just Another Grass Seed is a small add-on mod that adds one item you'll see in this pack: Grass Seed. The pack ships version 21.1.5, built for Minecraft 1.21.1.[1]
Where it fits in progression
You meet the mod right at the start. A quest in the "the_beginning" chapter, "Getting Grass" quest, has Grass Seed as its task. It unlocks after an earlier quest in the same chapter, so you'll reach it in your first steps through the quest book.[2]
That makes it an early-game item, and it's a good one to get familiar with before moving on to bigger mods.[2]
What the sources don't cover
Unverified The sources I have don't describe how Grass Seed is obtained or used, whether the pack changes any of its recipes or configs, or whether the mod appears on the ATM Star path. Check the quest in-game for how it works in this pack.
How do you get started with Just Another Grass Seed?
3 parts
The early game with Just Another Grass Seed comes down to two things: getting a Grass Seed and making Fake Grass Blocks. Here's the order I'd go in.[2][3]
Step 1: Get a Grass Seed
The pack adds a sifting recipe that gives you the Grass Seed. You sift plain dirt with a Mechanical Cloth Mesh, and the Grass Seed is one of many possible results. The same drop table also includes crop seeds, bamboo, sugar cane and sweet berries, so expect to sift a few times.[3]
Sifting (createsifter)

Added by the pack. Grass Seed is one of several possible drops.
Getting the seed also matters for progress. A quest in the beginning chapter, "Getting Grass" quest, has you obtain a Grass Seed. It unlocks after an earlier quest in that chapter.[2]
Step 2: Make a Fake Grass Block
The pack gives you two ways to make a Fake Grass Block. The first takes a regular grass block and turns it into a fake one.[3]
Added by the pack.
The second route is for when you don't have a grass block. It uses Super Glue from Create, plain dirt and moss carpet.[3]
Added by the pack.
Step 3: Switch biome looks with the stonecutter
Once you have a plain Fake Grass Block, the pack lets you convert it in a stonecutter into biome-themed versions. Examples are Fake Grass Block (Plains), Fake Grass Block (Snow), Fake Grass Block (Swamp) and Fake Grass Block (Desert). Other variants include Badlands, Birch, Cheery, Dark Forest, Jungle, Mangrove, Meadow, Mushroom, Ocean, Pale Garden and Sparse Jungle.[3]

Plains is one example. Every variant has its own stonecutting recipe.
How does Just Another Grass Seed work?
3 parts
The sources for this mod only show items and recipes, so this section is short. The mod's content here is Grass Seed and a family of fake grass blocks, and everything below is about how you obtain and convert them.[3]
Getting Grass Seed
You get Grass Seed by sifting. The pack adds a sifting recipe that lists it as one possible output alongside many other seeds and crops. The recipe dump doesn't show drop chances, so don't count on any particular rate.[3]
Sifting (createsifter)
Recipe id: ftb:sifting/minecraft_dirt_with_cloth_mesh
Grass Seed is one of several possible results of this pack-added sifting recipe.
Crafting the Fake Grass Block
The pack adds two shapeless recipes for the base Fake Grass Block. One is a direct conversion from a real grass block. The other uses a different set of items, so you can make the block without a grass block.[3]
Pack-added shapeless recipe starting from a grass block.
Pack-added shapeless alternative that doesn't need a grass block.
Switching biome variants
The pack handles the biome variants with the stonecutter. You can turn the base Fake Grass Block into a variant, and you can turn any variant back into the base block, so you can change your mind later.[3]

The variants named in the sources are Badlands, Birch, Cheery, Dark Forest, Desert, Jungle, Mangrove, Meadow, Mushroom, Ocean, Pale Garden, Plains, Snow, Sparse Jungle and Swamp. For example, you have Fake Grass Block (Meadow), Fake Grass Block (Snow) and Fake Grass Block (Swamp). Every one of them has a stonecutting recipe back to the base block.[3]
Unverified No guidebook, config files or item descriptions are available for this mod, so how the blocks behave in the world (for example any grass-spreading or colouring behaviour) isn't shown by the sources here.
How do you progress through Just Another Grass Seed?
3 parts
The pack's sources show no tier breakdown for this mod. What they show is a short path: get Grass Seed, then turn it into Fake Grass Blocks. Here is how that path goes.[2][3]
Step 1: Get Grass Seed
In the pack's quest chapter "the_beginning" there is a quest, "Getting Grass" quest, whose task is to obtain Grass Seed. It unlocks after another quest in the same chapter, and it has no title in the pack files.[2]
The pack adds a sifting recipe that can give you Grass Seed. Grass Seed is only one of many possible results of that recipe, alongside several crop seeds and other plant items.[3]

Step 2: Make Fake Grass Blocks
The pack adds two shapeless ways to craft the base Fake Grass Block.[3]

Added by the pack. A second shapeless recipe for the same block.
Step 3: Switch biome variants
The pack adds stonecutting recipes that turn the base Fake Grass Block into biome-themed variants. Each variant also has a stonecutting recipe back to the base block, so you can swap between looks.[3]
- Fake Grass Block (Plains), Fake Grass Block (Meadow) and Fake Grass Block (Cheery)[3]
- Fake Grass Block (Birch), Fake Grass Block (Dark_forest) and Fake Grass Block (Pale_garden)[3]
- Fake Grass Block (Jungle), Fake Grass Block (Sparse_jungle), Fake Grass Block (Swamp) and Fake Grass Block (Mangrove)[3]
- Fake Grass Block (Desert), Fake Grass Block (Badlands), Fake Grass Block (Snow), Fake Grass Block (Ocean) and Fake Grass Block (Mushroom)[3]

How does Just Another Grass Seed work with other mods?
3 parts
This pack connects Just Another Grass Seed to other mods through three custom recipes, all added by the pack. Here is what each one does.[3]
Sifting for Grass Seed
The pack adds a Create Sifter sifting recipe where dirt and a Mechanical Cloth Mesh can give you Grass Seed. The same recipe lists seeds and crops from several other mods among its results.[3]
- Farmer's Delight: Cabbage Seeds, Rice Crops and Tomato Seeds[3]
- Immersive Engineering: Industrial Hemp Seeds[3]
- Integrated Dynamics: Menril Sapling[3]
- Vanilla items: Bamboo, Beetroot Seeds, Cocoa Beans, Melon Seeds, Pumpkin Seeds, Sugar Cane, Sweet Berries and Wheat Seeds[3]

In the pack's quest book, the quest "Getting Grass" quest in the the_beginning chapter has an item task for Grass Seed. It comes after another quest in that chapter.[2]
Fake Grass Block
The pack adds a shapeless crafting recipe for the Fake Grass Block that uses Super Glue from Create. The recipe is below.[3]

Grass Seed and Grains of Infinity
The third link is a Lychee recipe added by the pack, with the id grass_seed_from_dirt_water. It is an item-inside type recipe that takes Grains of Infinity, Grass Seed and Dirt as inputs.[3]

Pack-added Lychee item-inside recipe.
Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Just Another Grass Seed?
In this pack, the mod shows up in one quest, and it lives in the "the_beginning" chapter. It's an early-game quest, so you'll run into it near the start of your run.[2]
The quest is "Getting Grass" quest, and it has no title in the pack files. Its task is an item task: you hand in Grass Seed. That's all the quest asks for.[2]
It comes after the quest with the id 5FCEA8229BB6955C in the same chapter, so you need to finish that one first before this one unlocks.[2]
Unverified The sources don't say what the previous quest asks for, whether this quest gives a reward, or how you obtain Grass Seed in this pack. Check the in-game quest book for those details.
