What is Just Another Grass Seed?

1 part

Just Another Grass Seed adds the Grass Seed item to the pack. The pack ships version 21.1.5 of the mod, and it has been included since version 1.0.1 or earlier.[1][2]

Where the quest book places it

You meet this mod right at the start. The quest a quest in "?" sits in the chapter called the_beginning, and its task is to get the Grass Seed. It has no title in the quest book, and it unlocks after another quest in the same chapter.[2]

The quest data here lists only what a quest comes after, so it doesn't show which quests follow this one, and it doesn't name a group for the chapter.[2]

Unverified Whether the ATM Star path uses this mod is not shown by the sources here, so it is not placed on that path in this guide.

How do you get started with Just Another Grass Seed?

3 parts

Just Another Grass Seed is a small mod, and in this pack the useful path through it is short: get Grass Seed, then make Fake Grass Block and its biome variants. Here's the order I'd go in.[2][3]

Step 1: Get Grass Seed

The pack adds Grass Seed as one of the possible results of a sifting recipe that works on dirt. It comes out alongside a lot of other seeds and crops, so it's one result among many, not a guaranteed one. The recipe is below.[3]

Sifting (createsifter)

Added by the pack. Grass Seed is one of several possible results.

Grass Seed also has its own quest in the the_beginning chapter: a quest in "?". Its task is to obtain the seed, and it unlocks after another quest in that chapter.[2]

Step 2: Make a Fake Grass Block

The pack gives you two shapeless ways to make Fake Grass Block. The first starts from a normal grass block, and the second is built from other materials. Both are shown here.[3]

Added by the pack: a second shapeless recipe for the same block.

Step 3: Pick a biome variant

Once you have a plain Fake Grass Block, the pack lets you turn it into a biome variant with stonecutting recipes. Examples are Fake Grass Block (Plains), Fake Grass Block (Snow) and Fake Grass Block (Swamp). Here is the Plains one.[3]

Added by the pack. The other variants follow the same stonecutting pattern.

Changed your mind? Every variant can be turned back into the plain block, also by stonecutting. Here's the way back from Plains.[3]

Added by the pack: stonecutting a Plains variant gives the plain block back.

Tip: Because variants convert back to the plain Fake Grass Block, you can craft one base block and swap it into whichever biome variant you want. You don't need to commit to one up front.[3]

How does Just Another Grass Seed work?

3 parts

For this mod, the pack's recipes tell a simple story: you make a plain Fake Grass Block, then switch it between biome looks. Here is how that flow works.[3]

Getting a Fake Grass Block

The base Fake Grass Block has two shapeless crafting recipes, and the pack added both of them. Pick whichever fits the materials you have on hand.[3]

Switching biome variants with the stonecutter

The biome-flavoured variants are handled by the stonecutter, and the pack added these recipes. The base Fake Grass Block can be cut into Fake Grass Block (Badlands), Fake Grass Block (Birch), Fake Grass Block (Cheery), Fake Grass Block (Dark_forest), Fake Grass Block (Desert), Fake Grass Block (Jungle), Fake Grass Block (Mangrove), Fake Grass Block (Meadow), Fake Grass Block (Mushroom), Fake Grass Block (Ocean) and Fake Grass Block (Pale_garden).[3]

Stonecutting

Example: the base block cut into the Desert variant in the stonecutter.

Going the other way, the stonecutter turns any variant back into the plain Fake Grass Block. That covers all of the ones above plus Fake Grass Block (Plains), Fake Grass Block (Snow), Fake Grass Block (Sparse_jungle) and Fake Grass Block (Swamp). A change of mind never wastes a block, and you can move from one variant to another by passing through the base block.[3]

Where Grass Seed comes from

Grass Seed is one of several possible results of a sifting recipe the pack added. The same recipe also gives other seeds and crops, so Grass Seed is only one of the things a sift can produce.[3]

How do you progress through Just Another Grass Seed?

3 parts

Just Another Grass Seed has a very short path in this pack: one quest step and a few recipes. There is no tier ladder in the sources, so here is the order that makes sense.[2][3]

Step 1: Get Grass Seed

The mod has one quest, in the "the_beginning" chapter: a quest in "?". Its task is to bring in Grass Seed, and it unlocks after another quest in the same chapter. The sources here do not show a title or rewards for it.[2]

The pack adds a Create Sifter sifting recipe that gives Grass Seed. Grass Seed is one of many possible results of that recipe, alongside crop seeds and saplings from other mods.[3]

Added by the pack. Grass Seed is one of several results listed for this sifting recipe.

Step 2: Make Fake Grass Blocks

The pack adds two shapeless recipes for a plain Fake Grass Block. The first starts from a regular grass block.[3]

The second is a different shapeless recipe that also gives the plain Fake Grass Block.[3]

Step 3: Pick a biome look

The pack adds stonecutting recipes that turn the plain Fake Grass Block into biome variants. Here is one example:[3]

Example of the stonecutting pattern, added by the pack for each variant.

The variants are Badlands, Birch, Cheery, Dark Forest, Desert, Jungle, Mangrove, Meadow, Mushroom, Ocean, Pale Garden, Plains, Snow, Sparse Jungle and Swamp. Examples include Fake Grass Block (Badlands), Fake Grass Block (Cheery) and Fake Grass Block (Pale_garden).[3]

Every variant can also be stonecut back into the plain Fake Grass Block, so you can change looks later without remaking anything.[3]

Example of the reverse conversion, the Ocean variant back to the plain block.

Tip: Make one plain Fake Grass Block first, then use the stonecutter to try out the biome variants. Each one converts back to the plain block, so experimenting costs you nothing.[3]

How does Just Another Grass Seed work with other mods?

4 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.15.0 guide

This pack ties Just Another Grass Seed into several other mods through recipes it adds itself. These are the connections the pack's recipes and quests confirm.[4]

Getting Grass Seed by sifting dirt

The pack adds a Create Sifter recipe that sifts Dirt with a Mechanical Cloth Mesh. Grass Seed is one of the possible results.[4]

The same sift also gives seeds and crops from other mods, plus some vanilla items. The sources do not show drop chances.[4]

Sifting (createsifter)

Recipe id: ftb:sifting/minecraft_dirt_with_cloth_mesh

Added by the pack: sifting dirt can give you Grass Seed.

Fake Grass Block with Create

The pack adds a shapeless crafting recipe for the Fake Grass Block. It connects the mod to Create, since the recipe uses Super Glue.[4]

Grass Seed and Ender IO

The pack also adds a Lychee item-inside recipe, grass_seed_from_dirt_water, that uses Grass Seed together with Grains of Infinity from Ender IO. The recipe dump lists no output for it.[4]

In the "the_beginning" quest chapter, quest a quest in "?" has you hand in Grass Seed. It unlocks after another quest in the same chapter.[5]

Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Just Another Grass Seed?

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

In this pack, the mod shows up in one quest, and it lives in the "the_beginning" chapter. It's an early-game quest, so you'll run into it near the start of your run.[6]

The quest is a quest in "?", and it has no title in the pack files. Its task is an item task: you hand in Grass Seed. That's all the quest asks for.[6]

It comes after the quest with the id 5FCEA8229BB6955C in the same chapter, so you need to finish that one first before this one unlocks.[6]

Unverified The sources don't say what the previous quest asks for, whether this quest gives a reward, or how you obtain Grass Seed in this pack. Check the in-game quest book for those details.
