What is Just Another Grass Seed?

1 part

Just Another Grass Seed adds the Grass Seed to the pack. This pack ships version 21.1.5, in the file jags-neo-21.1.5+mc1.21.1.jar. It was first included in 1.2.0 or earlier, so it isn't a recent addition.[1]

Where the quest book places it

You meet this mod in the chapter "the_beginning". The quest a quest in "?" has no title, and its task is to obtain the Grass Seed. It unlocks after another quest, so you won't see it until you've completed that one.[2]

How do you get started with Just Another Grass Seed?

3 parts

Getting started with this mod is a short chain: get a Grass Seed, craft a Fake Grass Block, then use a stonecutter to switch between biome looks. Here is the order, and why.[3]

Step one: get your first Grass Seed

The first item to get is Grass Seed. The pack adds a sifting recipe where it is one of many possible results, alongside crop seeds, saplings and other items. So you may need to sift a few times before it shows up.[3]

Added by the pack. Grass Seed is one of several possible results of this sifting recipe.

Grass Seed is also the item the quest a quest in "?" asks for. It sits in the Beginning chapter of the quest book, so it makes a good early checkpoint.[2]

Step two: craft a Fake Grass Block

Next, make Fake Grass Block. The pack adds two shapeless crafting recipes for it. One starts from a normal grass block, and the other is built from different items, so you can pick whichever is easier for you.[3]

Step three: switch biome looks with a stonecutter

Once you have the plain Fake Grass Block, you don't need a separate crafting recipe for each biome look. The pack adds stonecutting recipes that turn it into each variant, and every variant turns back into the plain block.[3]

A few examples are Fake Grass Block (Plains), Fake Grass Block (Desert), Fake Grass Block (Snow) and Fake Grass Block (Swamp). There are more, including Fake Grass Block (Jungle), Fake Grass Block (Mushroom), Fake Grass Block (Ocean), Fake Grass Block (Meadow) and Fake Grass Block (Pale_garden).[3]

Tip: Keep a plain Fake Grass Block as your base. Every variant converts back to it in the stonecutter, so you can change your mind about a biome look later without crafting from scratch.[3]

How does Just Another Grass Seed work?

3 parts

Here's the honest picture for this mod, because it matters for how you plan your base. The sources I have for Just Another Grass Seed only cover its recipes. They show no machines, multiblocks, power, fluid or item-handling systems, so there is nothing to explain there. What they do show is how you get Fake Grass Blocks and Grass Seed, and how you switch between the biome variants.[3]

Getting the base Fake Grass Block

The pack adds two shapeless crafting recipes that produce the plain Fake Grass Block. Both are pack-added recipes, so don't assume they match what the mod does on its own.[3]

Getting Grass Seed

In this pack, Grass Seed comes from a sifting recipe, which the pack adds through the Create Sifter recipe type. It is one of several possible outputs of that recipe, which also drops a range of vanilla and modded crop seeds and saplings. The sources don't give drop chances, so I can't tell you how often the seed shows up.[3]

Switching biome variants with the stonecutter

Once you have the plain block, you don't need any more crafting to get the biome looks. The pack adds stonecutting recipes that turn the plain Fake Grass Block into each variant, such as Fake Grass Block (Badlands). Each variant also has a stonecutting recipe back to the plain block, so you can swap freely.[3]

These variants are confirmed in the sources: Badlands, Birch, Cheery, Dark Forest, Desert, Jungle, Mangrove, Meadow, Mushroom, Ocean and Pale Garden, with the plain-to-variant recipe shown for each. Plains, Sparse Jungle, Snow and Swamp are confirmed in the other direction, as a variant turning back into the plain block. Their plain-to-variant recipes aren't shown in the sources.[3]

Unverified What Grass Seed does once you have it, how the Fake Grass Blocks behave in the world, and whether the mod has any machines, power, fluid or automation features are not confirmed by the available sources. There is no in-jar guidebook, no config files and no lang descriptions to check against.

How do you progress through Just Another Grass Seed?

3 parts

Just Another Grass Seed has no tiers or upgrade stages in this pack. What the sources show is a short path: get the seed, make a plain Fake Grass Block, then pick a biome look for it.[2][3]

Step 1: Get Grass Seed

The pack's quest chapter the_beginning has a quest, a quest in "?", whose task is to obtain Grass Seed. It unlocks after another quest.[2]

The pack adds a sifting recipe that can give you Grass Seed. It is one of many possible results of that recipe, alongside seeds and crops from vanilla and other mods.[3]

Step 2: Make Fake Grass Blocks

Step 3: Pick a biome look

Once you have a plain Fake Grass Block, the pack lets you convert it in the stonecutter into a range of biome variants. Each variant converts back into the plain block the same way, so you can swap looks freely.[3]

How does Just Another Grass Seed work with other mods?

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

This pack connects Just Another Grass Seed to other mods through three custom recipes, all added by the pack. Here is what each one does.[4]

Sifting for Grass Seed

The pack adds a Create Sifter sifting recipe where dirt and a Mechanical Cloth Mesh can give you Grass Seed. The same recipe lists seeds and crops from several other mods among its results.[4]

In the pack's quest book, the quest a quest in "?" in the the_beginning chapter has an item task for Grass Seed. It comes after another quest in that chapter.[5]

Fake Grass Block

The pack adds a shapeless crafting recipe for the Fake Grass Block that uses Super Glue from Create. The recipe is below.[4]

Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Just Another Grass Seed?

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

In this pack, the mod shows up in one quest, and it lives in the "the_beginning" chapter. It's an early-game quest, so you'll run into it near the start of your run.[5]

The quest is a quest in "?", and it has no title in the pack files. Its task is an item task: you hand in Grass Seed. That's all the quest asks for.[5]

It comes after the quest with the id 5FCEA8229BB6955C in the same chapter, so you need to finish that one first before this one unlocks.[5]

Unverified The sources don't say what the previous quest asks for, whether this quest gives a reward, or how you obtain Grass Seed in this pack. Check the in-game quest book for those details.
