What is Just Another Grass Seed?

2 parts

Just Another Grass Seed adds the Grass Seed item to the pack. The pack ships version 21.1.5 of the mod, and it has been part of the pack since version 1.0.1 or earlier.[1]

Where it fits in the progression

You meet this mod right at the start. The quest a quest in "?" sits in the "the_beginning" chapter and has the Grass Seed item as its task. It unlocks after another quest in the same chapter, so it is one of your first steps.[2]

What we can't confirm yet

Unverified The sources I have don't describe how Grass Seed is obtained or used, or whether the pack changes any recipes or configs for this mod. Check in-game before relying on a specific method.

How do you get started with Just Another Grass Seed?

3 parts

The first thing this mod asks of you in the pack is to get your hands on Grass Seed. There's a quest for it in The Beginning chapter, so you'll bump into it early. The quest a quest in "?" has you hand in a Grass Seed, and it unlocks after an earlier quest in that chapter.[2]

Step 1: Sift for Grass Seed

In this pack, Grass Seed comes from sifting dirt with a Mechanical Cloth Mesh in a Create Sifter. This is a recipe the pack added. Grass Seed is only one of many possible results, alongside farming seeds, saplings, bamboo and sugar cane. The sources don't give drop chances, so expect to sift a fair bit of dirt.[3]

Step 2: Make a Fake Grass Block

The other early item is the Fake Grass Block. The pack gives you two ways to craft it, and both are shapeless recipes added by the pack.[3]

Step 3: Pick a biome look

Once you have a plain Fake Grass Block, you can turn it into a biome-coloured version in a stonecutter. Every conversion works in reverse too, so you can always switch back to the plain block. That makes experimenting free.[3]

Unverified What Grass Seed does once you use it, and how it relates to the Fake Grass Blocks, isn't covered by the sources I have. There's no in-jar guide or lang description for this mod, so check it in-game.

How does Just Another Grass Seed work?

3 parts

Here is the honest picture: the sources for this mod only cover recipes. They show no machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or automation hooks, so none of that is covered here. What they do show is how you get Grass Seed and how the Fake Grass Block family fits together in this pack.[3]

Getting Grass Seed

In this pack, Grass Seed is one of the possible results of a Create Sifter sifting recipe that the pack added. It sits in a loot-style list alongside a lot of other seeds and saplings. The sources don't give drop chances, so I can't tell you how often it shows up.[3]

Grass Seed is one of several possible outputs.

Making Fake Grass Blocks

The pack gives you two crafting routes to the base Fake Grass Block. Both are shapeless recipes added by the pack, so you don't need a crafting layout.[3]

Switching biome variants

Variants are handled with the stonecutter, and all of these stonecutting recipes were added by the pack. Every biome variant can be turned back into the plain Fake Grass Block. That covers the Badlands, Birch, Cheery, Dark Forest, Desert, Jungle, Mangrove, Meadow, Mushroom, Ocean, Pale Garden, Plains, Snow, Sparse Jungle and Swamp versions.[3]

The plain block converts to a variant. Here it's Desert.

And back again: a variant converts to the plain block.

Going the other way, the plain block can be cut into the Badlands, Birch, Cheery, Dark Forest, Desert, Jungle, Mangrove, Meadow, Mushroom, Ocean and Pale Garden variants. That means you can swap one variant for another by going through the plain block.[3]

Tip: Because every variant converts back to the plain block, you never get stuck with the wrong biome look. Swap it back at the stonecutter and pick again.[3]

Unverified The source list cuts off a few recipes, and the Plains, Snow, Sparse Jungle and Swamp variants have no confirmed plain-block-to-variant recipe in the sources. They probably follow the same pattern, but that is unconfirmed. What the fake grass blocks actually do in the world, such as how they look or behave, is also not covered by the sources.

How do you progress through Just Another Grass Seed?

3 parts

Just Another Grass Seed doesn't have tiers or upgrade stages in this pack. It's a small decoration and utility mod, so the progression is a short chain: get the Grass Seed, then make Fake Grass Blocks and pick a biome look.[2][3]

Step 1: Get the Grass Seed

The pack's quest book has a quest for this in the "the_beginning" chapter. a quest in "?" has you obtain Grass Seed, and it unlocks after quest a quest in "?" is done.[2]

In this pack the seed comes from a sifting recipe the pack added. It sits in the same drop list as a lot of other early-game seeds and saplings, so you may need a few siftings before it shows up. The sources don't give drop chances, so those are unverified.[3]

Grass Seed is one of many possible results of this sifting recipe.

Step 2: Make Fake Grass Blocks

The pack adds two shapeless crafting recipes for the base Fake Grass Block. Use whichever is easier for you right now.[3]

Step 3: Pick a biome variant

Once you have the base block, a stonecutter turns it into any of the biome-styled variants. Every variant also converts back into the base block, so you can swap your look later without losing anything. Here are a couple of examples.[3]

Unverified The sources don't show the quest's reward or what the Grass Seed does when used, so those details are unconfirmed. This section also doesn't cover any other quests for this mod.

How does Just Another Grass Seed work with other mods?

4 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.15.0 guide

This pack ties Just Another Grass Seed into several other mods through recipes it adds itself. These are the connections the pack's recipes and quests confirm.[4]

Getting Grass Seed by sifting dirt

The pack adds a Create Sifter recipe that sifts Dirt with a Mechanical Cloth Mesh. Grass Seed is one of the possible results.[4]

The same sift also gives seeds and crops from other mods, plus some vanilla items. The sources do not show drop chances.[4]

Sifting (createsifter)

Recipe id: ftb:sifting/minecraft_dirt_with_cloth_mesh

Added by the pack: sifting dirt can give you Grass Seed.

Fake Grass Block with Create

The pack adds a shapeless crafting recipe for the Fake Grass Block. It connects the mod to Create, since the recipe uses Super Glue.[4]

Grass Seed and Ender IO

The pack also adds a Lychee item-inside recipe, grass_seed_from_dirt_water, that uses Grass Seed together with Grains of Infinity from Ender IO. The recipe dump lists no output for it.[4]

In the "the_beginning" quest chapter, quest a quest in "?" has you hand in Grass Seed. It unlocks after another quest in the same chapter.[5]

Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Just Another Grass Seed?

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

In this pack, the mod shows up in one quest, and it lives in the "the_beginning" chapter. It's an early-game quest, so you'll run into it near the start of your run.[6]

The quest is a quest in "?", and it has no title in the pack files. Its task is an item task: you hand in Grass Seed. That's all the quest asks for.[6]

It comes after the quest with the id 5FCEA8229BB6955C in the same chapter, so you need to finish that one first before this one unlocks.[6]

Unverified The sources don't say what the previous quest asks for, whether this quest gives a reward, or how you obtain Grass Seed in this pack. Check the in-game quest book for those details.
