What is AllTheOres?

2 parts

AllTheOres is part of All the Mods 10 8.1, which ships version 3.2.0. It has been in the pack since at least version 2.25, so it's been around for most of the pack's life.[1]

In this pack, AllTheOres items are the shared metals that lots of different quest chapters ask for. Steel Ingot is the clearest example: it's a quest goal in the Immersive Engineering chapter, the Steam Age chapter and the ATM Star chapter. Whichever tech mod you start with, you'll be working with these materials.[2][3][4]

Where you'll run into it

On the ATM Star path

AllTheOres items also appear on the road to the ATM Star. In Chapter 3: The ATM Star, "Extreme Reactors" quest asks for a Uranium Ingot and "Mekanism" quest asks for a Steel Ingot. That Mekanism quest explains that the Star materials are on the Reactors page, but you have to work through the main Mekanism page to reach it.[2]

Unverified The sources don't include the mod's own description, so it's unconfirmed which ores AllTheOres adds to world generation, whether it unifies metals between mods, or who the mod is mainly aimed at.

How do you get started with AllTheOres?

7 parts

AllTheOres adds many of the ores you'll be chasing in this pack. Every ore block tells you in its tooltip which Y range it generates in, so hover over it before you pick a mining level.[6]

Know where to dig

  • Tin ore is found between Y -64 and Y 196, so it's easy to pick up early.[6]
  • Zinc ore is found between Y -64 and Y 126.[6]
  • Nickel, silver, lead and osmium ores are all found between Y -64 and Y 56.[6]
  • Sulfur ore is found between Y -64 and Y 25, and uranium ore sits even deeper, between Y -64 and Y 16.[6]

Crush copper and tin into dust

The Steam Age chapter opens by asking you for Copper Dust and Tin Dust in quests a quest in "Steam Age: New Beginnings" and a quest in "Steam Age: New Beginnings". Those quests point you to the Forge Hammer, which crushes the ingots or ore forms into dust.[4]

AllTheOres also has its own shapeless hammer recipes. They turn copper and tin into dust right in the crafting grid, with no machine needed.[7]

Make your first Bronze

Quest "&#EDD653Bronze" quest calls Bronze the building block of the Steam Age. You blend your dusts into Bronze Dust, then cook that dust to get Bronze Ingot. The pack changed the blending recipe, so use the in-pack version below.[4][7]

Get Steel going early

You'll want Steel Ingot everywhere. In Immersive Engineering, quest "Steel Ingot" quest says almost everything needs Steel, mainly tools, mechanical parts and building blocks. Mekanism's "Steel" quest says Steel goes into machines, tools, upgrades, reactors and energy cells. The ATM Star chapter's "Mekanism" quest also asks for a Steel Ingot.[2][3][5]

The Immersive Engineering Steel quest comes after the Crude Blast Furnace and the Alloy Kiln. The pack changed Immersive Engineering's alloy recipe for Steel, and it also changed the Ender IO alloy smelting recipe for Steel. Here are the in-pack versions.[3][7]

If you go the Mekanism route instead, use the Metallurgic Infuser with Carbon from coal or charcoal. Infusing iron with 10mB of Carbon gives Enriched Iron. Infusing that with another 10mB of Carbon gives Steel Dust, which you smelt into an ingot.[5]

Watch out: The Immersive Engineering Steel quest warns that the Crude Blast Furnace and the Alloy Kiln can't be automated, and you'll need a lot of Steel. Plan a bigger setup once the basics are running.[3]

Osmium for Mekanism

Quest "Osmium" quest calls Osmium Ingot the base crafting ingot for Mekanism. Its ore spawns below Y 56, is shaped like emerald ore and has a blue-ish grey colour. Many Mekanism machines use it, so you'll need a lot.[5][6]

How does AllTheOres work?

3 parts

AllTheOres is a resource mod, not a tech mod. The available material shows no machines, multiblocks, power, fluid or item networks for it. What it does give you are ores in several stone variants, the metal and gem storage blocks and parts built from them, and chemical slurries for ore processing. This section covers what those files confirm.[6][7]

Where the ores spawn

Every AllTheOres ore has a tooltip showing the Y range where you can find it. Every range starts at Y -64, so the number that matters is the upper limit: the lower it is, the deeper you need to dig. Each ore also has deepslate, Nether, End and "other" block variants, and all variants of an ore show the same range.[6]

  • Aluminum: Y -64 to Y 320, the widest range of any ore here.[6]
  • Sapphire: Y -64 to Y 296.[6]
  • Cinnabar, Fluorite, Ruby and Salt: Y -64 to Y 228.[6]
  • Peridot and Tin: Y -64 to Y 196.[6]
  • Zinc: Y -64 to Y 126.[6]
  • Lead, Nickel, Osmium and Silver: Y -64 to Y 56.[6]
  • Platinum: Y -64 to Y 36.[6]
  • Iridium: Y -64 to Y 32.[6]
  • Sulfur: Y -64 to Y 25.[6]
  • Uranium: Y -64 to Y 16, the deepest-capped ore of the set.[6]
Tip: If you want everything in one trip, mine in the deepslate layers near the bottom of the world. Every ore's range includes Y -64 up to at least Y 16, so all of them can show up down there.[6]

Unverified The tooltips only give a height range. How common each ore is, how big the veins are, and whether the Nether, End and "other" variants actually generate in the pack's dimensions are not confirmed here.

Slurries for ore processing

AllTheOres registers chemical slurries in pairs, a dirty and a clean version, for four metals: Dirty and Clean Aluminum Slurry, Dirty and Clean Iridium Slurry, Dirty and Clean Platinum Slurry, and Dirty and Clean Uranium Slurry. These are the hooks for ore-multiplying processing chains.[6]

Unverified Which machines create, clean and crystallize these slurries in this pack, and how much extra output you get from them, is not covered by the available sources.

How the pack wires AllTheOres items into recipes

In All the Mods 10 8.1, the pack changed a number of recipes that output AllTheOres items. For example, Steel Ingot, Steel Block, Steel Rod and Iron Rod come out of pack-changed crafting recipes under the ad_astra recipe namespace. These recipes use item tags, so any item in the matching tag works as the input.[7]

How do you progress through AllTheOres?

5 parts

AllTheOres doesn't have its own quest chapter in this pack. Its metals, dusts and gems show up as goals across lots of other chapters, from the Steam Age all the way to the ATM Star. Here's the rough order you'll need them in, plus the in-pack recipes for each step.[2][3][4][5]

Early game: hammers and dusts

In the Steam Age chapter, the Forge Hammer is your first crusher. It turns Copper and Tin, as ingots or ores, into Copper Dust and Tin Dust. Those unlock "&#EDD653Bronze" quest, where you blend Bronze Dust and cook it into Bronze Ingot, the building block of the Steam Age.[4]

AllTheOres also has crafting-grid recipes that use any ore hammer to crush ingots, raw materials or ores into dusts. The same hammer recipes turn ores into Sulfur and Fluorite. On top of that, the pack adds Actually Additions crushing recipes that turn raw copper, iron and gold into dusts, and sulfur ores into Sulfur.[7]

Hang on to those dusts if you're playing Occultism. "Our First Ritual" quest asks for a Silver Ingot. "Ophyx' Calling" quest asks for Iron Dust, Silver Dust, Gold Dust and Copper Dust.[9]

Alloys and your first Steel

The Immersive Engineering chapter has a quest for each alloy, all unlocked by the Alloy Kiln: "Bronze Ingot" quest, "Constantan Ingot" quest, "Electrum Ingot" quest, "Brass Ingot" quest and "Invar Ingot" quest. "Steel Ingot" quest comes after both the Crude Blast Furnace and the Alloy Kiln. The quests say Constantan is used in heat-based machines such as generators, and Electrum in anything electrical like wires, connectors and transformers. Brass and Invar aren't very useful in IE.[3]

The pack changed the alloy recipes for both the IE Alloy Kiln and the Ender IO alloy smelter, so check the in-pack versions below rather than trusting older guides.[7]

Watch out: The IE Steel quest points out that the Crude Blast Furnace and Alloy Kiln can't be automated. You'll need a lot of Steel, so plan to move on to something better.[3]

Mekanism and Oritech metals

Mekanism starts with "Osmium" quest, which asks for an Osmium Ingot. Osmium ore spawns below Y level 56, and you'll need plenty of it for Mekanism machines. Next, "Steel" quest shows the Metallurgic Infuser route. You infuse iron with 10mB of Carbon to make Enriched Iron, then infuse again to get Steel Dust, then smelt that into a Steel Ingot.[5]

If you're going the Oritech route, "Oritech Beginnings" quest asks you to find nickel ore and bring 4 Nickel Ingot.[10]

Arc Furnace tier

The big IE multiblocks eat Steel. The "Arc Furnace" quest quest needs 6 Steel Block, and the "Excavator" quest quest needs 9.[3]

Once the Arc Furnace is running, the pack adds recipes that smelt Constantan, Electrum, Nickel, Osmium, Silver, Steel and Uranium ores with slag straight into ingots. It also adds recipes that turn IE sheetmetal back into ingots. The raw Nickel, Osmium, Silver and Uranium recipes list a second ingot among their outputs. The Arc Furnace Steel recipe uses different inputs from the Alloy Kiln version, so compare the two.[7]

Reactors and the ATM Star

Late game is all about Uranium and chemicals. "Welcome to Extreme Reactors!" quest asks for an Uranium Ingot. "Fueling our Passive Reactor" quest asks for 4 more, which you pump into a Reactor Solid Access Port. Uranium also shows up in the Basic Power chapter's "Extreme Reactors: Reactors" quest quest.[8][11]

Tip: In IE's "Warm Items" quest quest, an Uranium Block is listed at 2000 K, compared with 1300 K for Lava and Magma.[3]

For Mekanism's Fission Reactor, "Mekanism: Reactors" quest starts a chain that oxidizes Sulfur into Sulfur Dioxide and then Sulfur Trioxide. "Sulfur Trioxide into Hydrofluoric Acid" quest turns that into Sulfuric Acid, and uses Fluorite in a Chemical Dissolution Chamber to make Hydrofluoric Acid.[12]

Finally, the ATM Star chapter asks for a Uranium Ingot in "Extreme Reactors" quest and a Steel Ingot in "Mekanism" quest. That means both metals stay on your shopping list right up to the end.[2]

How does AllTheOres work with other mods?

4 parts

AllTheOres is the shared metal supplier for the pack. Its ingots, blocks, dusts and gears turn up in Immersive Engineering, Mekanism, AllTheCompressed and Applied Energistics recipes and quests, and the pack has added or changed several of those recipes itself. Here's where you'll run into them.[3][7]

Mekanism ore processing

The AllTheOres processing recipes for Mekanism are changed by the pack. Purifying recipes turn ores, raw materials, raw blocks or shards into clumps such as Aluminum Clump, Iridium Clump and Nickel Clump. Injecting recipes turn crystals, ores and raw materials into shards like Iridium Shard and Lead Shard. Dissolution recipes turn ores and raw materials into dirty slurries for metals including copper, gold, iron, lead, aluminum and iridium.[7]

4× Iridium ShardChanged by the pack

Injecting (mekanism)

The Mekanism quest chapter also starts you off with "Osmium" quest, which asks for an Osmium Ingot and calls it the base crafting ingot.[5]

Immersive Engineering

The Immersive Engineering quests use AllTheOres ingots as the target for your early alloying. After the Alloy Kiln, you'll find "Constantan Ingot" quest, "Electrum Ingot" quest, "Brass Ingot" quest, "Invar Ingot" quest and "Bronze Ingot" quest. "Steel Ingot" quest comes after the Crude Blast Furnace. The quests themselves say that Constantan and Electrum matter a lot in IE, while Brass, Invar and Bronze are hardly used there.[3]

Once you hit the big multiblocks, save up Steel Block. Both "Excavator" quest and "Arc Furnace" quest ask for Steel Blocks next to IE's sheetmetal and engineering blocks.[3]

The pack also adds Arc Furnace recycling recipes. IE sheetmetal melts back into AllTheOres ingots, and sheetmetal slabs melt into nuggets. This works for aluminum, constantan, electrum, lead, nickel, silver, steel and uranium.[7]

Steam Age quests

In the Steam Age: New Beginnings chapter, you crush copper and tin with the Forge Hammer to get Copper Dust and Tin Dust. Next you make Bronze Dust and cook it into Bronze Ingots, which the chapter calls the building block of the Steam Age. A later quest in the chapter, a quest in "Steam Age: New Beginnings", asks for an Steel Ingot.[4]

AllTheCompressed and Applied Energistics

AllTheCompressed has compressed 1x versions of AllTheOres storage blocks, from metals and gems to raw ore blocks. The pack has changed their decompress recipes, which turn each 1x block back into the matching AllTheOres block.[7]

9× Steel BlockChanged by the pack

The pack also adds its own recipe for the Infinity Range Booster. It upgrades the AE2 Wireless Booster and needs AllTheOres gears, so plan your gear production before you go for unlimited wireless range.[7]

Which All the Mods 10 quests use AllTheOres?

7 parts

AllTheOres materials appear in a lot of quest chapters in this pack. You'll mostly be asked for ingots, dusts, rods and a few raw materials like sulfur and fluorite. Here's where each one shows up, in the order the quest prerequisites unlock them within each chapter.[2][3][4][5][8][9][10][11][12]

Chapter 3: The ATM Star

The main progression chapter needs two AllTheOres items. "Extreme Reactors" quest asks for a Uranium Ingot, and "Mekanism" quest asks for a Steel Ingot. The Mekanism quest explains that the ATM Star materials are on the Reactors page, and you have to work through the main Mekanism page to get there.[2]

Steam Age: New Beginnings

  1. After the Forge Hammer quest, crush Copper and Tin with the hammer to finish a quest in "Steam Age: New Beginnings" (Copper Dust) and a quest in "Steam Age: New Beginnings" (Tin Dust).[4]
  2. Those two quests unlock "&#EDD653Bronze" quest, which wants Bronze Dust. You cook it into Bronze Ingots, the building block of the Steam Age.[4]
  3. Later in the chapter, a quest in "Steam Age: New Beginnings" asks for a Steel Ingot.[4]

Immersive Engineering

"Steel Ingot" quest unlocks after the Crude Blast Furnace and Alloy Kiln quests. Steel matters a lot here: almost everything in IE needs it.[3]

All five alloy quests unlock after the Alloy Kiln quest.[3]

Later, the big multiblocks eat steel. "Excavator" quest needs 9 Steel Block, and "Arc Furnace" quest needs 6.[3]

After Energy from Temperature, "Warm Items" quest accepts an Uranium Block. The quest lists Uranium at 2000 K, compared with 1300 K for Lava and Magma.[3]

After the Railgun quest, "Railgun Ammo from IE" quest accepts rods and lists a value for each: Aluminum Rod 10, Iron Rod 16 and Steel Rod 24.[3]

Mekanism

  1. "Osmium" quest follows the Mekanism quest and wants an Osmium Ingot. Osmium Ore spawns below Y Level 56, and you'll need a lot of it for machines.[5]
  2. "Steel" quest follows the Metallurgic Infuser quest. You infuse iron with Carbon twice to get Steel Dust, then smelt it into a Steel Ingot.[5]
  3. "Creating Sulfuric Acid" quest follows the Machines quest and asks for Sulfur plus the chemical machines that process it.[5]
  4. "Mekanism: Reactors" quest also asks for Sulfur, getting you ready for the reactor chapter.[5]

Mekanism: Reactors

This chapter opens with "Mekanism: Reactors" quest, which needs Sulfur to start the Sulfur Trioxide chain for Fissile Fuel.[12]

Next comes "Sulfur Trioxide into Hydrofluoric Acid" quest, which needs Fluorite. You get Fluorite from mining ores.[12]

Extreme Reactors and Basic Power

The Extreme Reactors chapter starts with "Welcome to Extreme Reactors!" quest, which asks for a Uranium Ingot. After Our First Reactor, "Fueling our Passive Reactor" quest wants 4 Uranium Ingots, which you pump in through a Reactor Solid Access Port.[8]

In Basic Power, "Extreme Reactors: Reactors" quest comes after Mid Game Power Options. It also asks for a Uranium Ingot and points you to the Extreme Reactors chapter.[11]

Occultism and Oritech

"Our First Ritual" quest uses a Silver Ingot as one of its ritual offerings.[9]

Later, after Lime Chalk, "Ophyx' Calling" quest asks for Iron Dust, Silver Dust, Gold Dust and Copper Dust. It's an alternate path to a Djinni crusher.[9]

Finally, "Oritech Beginnings" quest kicks off Oritech by asking for 4 Nickel Ingot.[10]

What changed in AllTheOres between versions?

1 part

AllTheOres has been in All the Mods 10 for a long time. It was first included in version 2.25 or earlier, and All the Mods 10 8.1 ships AllTheOres 3.2.0 (file alltheores-3.2.0_neoforge_1.21.1.jar).[1]

Updates across pack releases

Here's how the mod's version moved through the pack's releases, oldest first:[13][14][15][16]

  • All the Mods 10 2.29 updated AllTheOres from 3.1.5 to 3.1.6.[16]
  • All the Mods 10 4.5 updated AllTheOres from 3.1.6 to 3.1.7.[15]
  • All the Mods 10 4.12 updated AllTheOres from 3.1.7 to 3.1.8.[14]
  • All the Mods 10 6.3 updated AllTheOres from 3.1.8 to 3.2.0, the version still shipped in 8.1.[1][13]

The biggest jump on this list is the move to the 3.2.0 line in pack 6.3. Your 8.1 install runs that same version.[1][13]

Unverified The pack changelogs only record version numbers, and no changelogs for the mod's own jars were available. What each of these AllTheOres updates actually changed (ores, recipes, world generation or bug fixes) is unverified.
