What is Occultism?
3 parts
Occultism is a ritual magic mod built around summoning spirits, also called demons, from "The Other Place" to work for you. Once you have them bound, they can automate tasks, store huge amounts of items, mine in void dimensions, help you make powerful enchanted tools and jewelry, and support you as familiars. The mod is inspired by Jonathan Stroud's Bartimaeus books, so expect plenty of demonic flavour.[1]
This pack ships Occultism 1.224.4, and the mod has been part of All the Mods 10 since version 2.25 or earlier.[2]
Who it's for
If you like magic mods with a bit of setup and ceremony, you'll feel right at home here. Even if you don't, the pack's own quests point out that you'll need the Dictionary Of Spirits to craft several things elsewhere in the pack, so it's worth getting at least that far.[3]
Getting started
- Break grass until you get Demon's Dream Seeds, the same way you'd find wheat seeds. The "Dreaming of Demons" quest quest kicks off the Occultism chapter here.[1][3]
- Craft the seeds with a book to get the Dictionary Of Spirits. It's the mod's guide book and has its own quest-style guide inside if you'd rather read it than follow the quests.[1][3]
- Eating Demon's Dream can give you the Third Eye, which lets you see and harvest Otherworld materials. Many of the basic ones can also be made by throwing items into Spiritfire instead.[3]
- From there, you'll prepare for rituals with chalk, sacrificial bowls and Books of Binding before summoning your first spirit.[3]
The ATM Star path
Occultism is part of the ATM Star progression in "Chapter 3: The ATM Star". The "Occultism" quest quest only asks for Demon's Dream Seeds, and it unlocks three Occultism steps for the star.[4]
- "Stable Wormhole" quest: made with the ritual of Eziveus' Spectral Compulsion.[4]
- "Dragon Familiar in a Creature Catcher" quest: summoned through Ihagan's Enthrallment, which needs a horse nearby to sacrifice. You then throw a Creature Catcher at the Dragon Familiar to use it for the ATM Star.[4]
- "Empty Soul Gem" quest: made with Strigeor's Higher Binding. It can carry mobs safely or be used to make the Dragon Soul.[4]
How do you get started with Occultism?
5 parts
Occultism is all about summoning spirits (demons, but mostly friendly ones!) to help you out. The early game follows a clear path: grab some seeds, make the guide book, learn to see the Otherworld, then gather everything for your very first ritual. Here's that path in order.[1][3]
Step 1: Seeds and the Dictionary of Spirits
Your first goal is Demon's Dream Seeds. Break grass until they drop, just like you would for vanilla wheat seeds. Picking them up completes "Dreaming of Demons" quest.[1][3]
Next, turn those seeds into the Dictionary Of Spirits, which is the mod's guide book. You really do need it. It has its own quest-style guide inside, and in this pack it's also needed to craft several things. This is "Little Book o' Demons" quest.[1][3][5]

Step 2: Demon's Dream Fruit and the Third Eye
Plant some of your seeds to grow Demon's Dream. When you eat one, you have a chance to get the Third Eye effect, which lets you see into the Otherworld. Some blocks in the world aren't what they seem, and you'll need that vision to find certain progression materials. This is "Demon Fruit" quest.[3]
Cloche (immersiveengineering)
Recipe id: allthemods:cloche/occultism/datura
Step 3: Spiritfire conversions
Instead of hunting down every Otherworld material, you can set Demon's Dream Fruit on fire to get Spiritfire and throw items into it. Andesite becomes Otherstone. Oak Saplings become Unstable Otherworld Sapling, which grow into trees that look like normal oak until you have the Third Eye. Diamonds become Spirit Attuned Gem, which several later recipes use. This is "Spiritfire Conversions" quest.[3]
Unverified The exact way to create Spiritfire isn't covered in detail here. Check the Dictionary of Spirits in-game for the full steps.
If you'd rather track Otherworld blocks down in the wild, the Divination Rod points you to the nearest one. Attune it by using it on the normal version of the block, for example Andesite for Otherstone. You still need the Third Eye to harvest what you find. This is "Tools of the Trade: Divination Rod" quest.[3][5]

Optional, since Spiritfire covers most basic materials.
Step 4: Ritual gear
- Chalk ("Preparing for a Ritual: Chalk" quest): Put Otherstone in a furnace and toss Otherworld Logs into Spiritfire. That gives you what you need to craft Impure White Chalk. Throw it into Spiritfire to purify it into White Chalk. Craft a Chalk Brush too, because chalk symbols are a pain to remove without one.[3]
- Bowls ("Preparing for a Ritual: Bowls" quest): Sacrificial Bowl holds ritual items and can go anywhere in the ritual, as long as it doesn't cover chalk. You'll need four for now and upwards of ten later. The Golden Ritual Bowl goes in the middle and activates the ritual.[3]
- Books of Binding ("Books of Binding" quest): Purify Black Dye in Spiritfire to get Purified Ink, then craft a Book of Binding: Foliot.[3]
- Knife and candles ("Tools of the Trade: Butcher's Knife" quest and "Preparing for a Ritual: Candles" quest): Use the Butcher Knife on pigs, cows, sheep, horses or Trader Llamas to get tallow for candles. Vanilla Candles also work. While you're at it, make a Spirit Attuned Crystal for later rituals.[3]

Step 5: Your first ritual
"Our First Ritual" quest summons a Foliot Crusher, a demon that crushes items for you. You'll need it to make higher-tier chalks. First, combine your unbound book with the Dictionary of Spirits in a crafting grid to get Book of Binding: Foliot (Bound).[3]
Open the Dictionary, go to the Pentacles tab and pick Aviar's Circle. Click the eye icon on the image to project an outline of the ritual into the world. Once it's built, place 4 Sacrificial Bowls within an 8 block horizontal radius of the center bowl and put the required items on them. Then drop the bound book into the Golden Ritual Bowl to start the ritual.[3]
How does Occultism work?
4 parts
Occultism runs on ritual magic built around summonable spirits. Instead of powering machines with energy, you summon demons from "The Other Place" and have them do the work. They can automate tasks, store huge amounts of items, mine in void dimensions and create enchanted tools and jewelry. Everything starts with the Dictionary of Spirits. To get it, break grass until you get Demon's Dream seeds, then craft the seeds with a book. The in-game guide takes it from there.[1]
Rituals and the central bowl
Rituals take place in a pentacle, and every pentacle needs exactly one central bowl. Several blocks can fill that role: the golden and iesnium sacrificial bowls, their dark variants, the eldritch chalice and the celestial chalice. Each shows the same tooltip reminder, so check it if you forget which block goes in the middle.[6]
Most crafting rituals bind a spirit into the item you create. Some are different. Forging Reinforced Deepslate is a service performed by Wild Spirits: you sacrifice the items and the spirit uses its power to forge the block, without binding itself to the result.[6]
If carrying lots of chalks and ritual gear gets tiresome, the guide introduces the Ritual Satchel as the fix. The Artisanal Ritual Satchel builds on the Apprentice version by getting help from an Afrit, for when the basic satchel still feels too slow.[6]
Books of Binding and Books of Calling
Spirits come in ranks. Each rank has its own Book of Binding: Book of Binding: Foliot, Book of Binding: Djinni, Book of Binding: Afrit and Book of Binding: Marid. You can craft each one directly. You can also make a Book of Binding: Empty first and turn it into whichever rank you need.[5]

A bound book holds a spirit. You craft it into a Book of Calling, which gives that spirit a job. These are the spirit workers you can make in this pack:[5]
- Book of Calling: Foliot Transporter is a Foliot that moves items for you.[5]
- Book of Calling: Foliot Janitor is a Foliot Janitor, made with a Chalk Brush.[5]
- Book of Calling: Foliot Farmer is a Foliot that farms.[5]
- Book of Calling: Foliot Lumberjack is a Foliot that chops trees.[5]
- Book of Calling: Djinni Machine Operator is a Djinni Machine Operator, the one Djinni job in this list.[5]

Storage and item handling
The spirit storage system is built to hold very large amounts of items. A stable wormhole links to a storage actuator, and its tooltip tells you whether it is linked and where the actuator is. For access on the go, the guide describes the storage remote as putting everything in your hands. The ender satchel works as a portable ender chest.[1][6]
Dimensional mining
One of Occultism's signature features is sending demons to mine in void dimensions. You do this with the dimensional mineshaft. The miners differ by spirit: the guide calls the Foliot miner the "stone, stone and ores" option and the Marid miner the rare resources miner.[1][6]
The mineshaft is automation-friendly, and each side connects to different slots:[6]
- The top side accesses the lamp slot.[6]
- The bottom side accesses the ore slots.[6]
- Every other side accesses all slots.[6]
There is also a dimensional battlefield, which the guide describes as a spiritual mob killing simulator. It is the Occultism answer to a mob farm.[6]
Unverified The in-game guide also has pages on how the dimensional mineshaft and dimensional battlefield handle redstone, enchantments, fuel and capabilities. It covers the dimensional extractor, the tiered storage stabilizers and redstone control of rituals as well. The text of those pages was not available, so check the Dictionary of Spirits in-game for the details.
How do you progress through Occultism?
6 parts
Occultism has its own quest chapter in this pack. The whole mod is about summoning demons through chalk rituals, and higher-level rituals need more colours of chalk. So most of the progression is a loop: do a ritual, unlock a new chalk, then use that chalk to reach the next ritual. The chapter starts at "Dreaming of Demons" quest, which only asks for Demon's Dream Seeds.[3]
Getting started
- Grow your seeds into Demon's Dream for "Demon Fruit" quest. Eating the fruit can give you the Third Eye effect, which lets you see into the Otherworld. You need that vision to find some of the progression materials.[3]
- Craft the Dictionary Of Spirits for "Little Book o' Demons" quest. It's the mod's guide book, and you also need it to craft several things in the pack, so don't skip it.[3]
- Use Spiritfire to convert Overworld materials into their Otherworld versions, including Otherstone, Unstable Otherworld Sapling and Spirit Attuned Gem ("Spiritfire Conversions" quest). Otherworld trees look like normal Oaks, but with the Third Eye you can harvest the Otherworld logs. If they keep dropping as regular Oak Logs, try collecting them from the top.[3]
- Optionally craft a Divination Rod ("Tools of the Trade: Divination Rod" quest). You attune it to a material, then hold right click, and a particle shoots toward the nearest matching Otherworld block.[3]

Your first ritual: the Foliot
Four prep quests come before your first summon. "Preparing for a Ritual: Chalk" quest gets you White Chalk: you craft the impure chalk, then throw it into Spiritfire to purify it. Grab a Chalk Brush too, because chalk marks are a pain to remove without one. "Preparing for a Ritual: Bowls" quest covers the bowls. Sacrificial Bowls hold the offerings, and the Golden Ritual Bowl sits in the centre and usually holds the Book of Binding. "Books of Binding" quest has you purify ink and make a Foliot book. "Preparing for a Ritual: Candles" quest needs candles plus a Spirit Attuned Crystal. It comes after "Tools of the Trade: Butcher's Knife" quest, which you use to get Tallow from animals, though vanilla Candles also work.[3]

"Our First Ritual" quest uses the Aviar's Circle pentacle to summon a Foliot Crusher. You need a Book of Binding: Foliot (Bound) in the Golden Ritual Bowl. You also need 4 Sacrificial Bowls with offerings, placed within an 8 block horizontal radius of the centre. Later rituals need upwards of ten bowls.[3]
Your new crusher can grind the dusts for Yellow, Purple and Light Gray chalk ("Chalking It Up" quest). Foliot-bound crafting rituals also make Research Fragment Dust and Nature Paste. The quests use Eziveus' Spectral Compulsion for these, and they feed into Lime Chalk ("Lime Chalk" quest) and Green Chalk ("Green Chalk" quest). The same ritual tier unlocks "Tools of the Trade: Spectral Goggles" quest. The Otherworld Goggles give you the Third Eye permanently, even from a Curios slot.[3][5]
Djinni rituals: storage, gray chalk and the Infused Pickaxe
Several key crafting rituals in this pack need a Book of Binding: Djinni (Bound). These include the Dimensional Crystal Matrix, Gray Paste, the Infused Pickaxe and the Dimensional Mineshaft. In the quests, Gray Paste comes from Strigeor's Higher Binding and becomes Gray Chalk ("Gray Chalk" quest).[3][5]
"Demonic Magical Storage!" quest gives you the Dimensional Storage Actuator. By default it has 128 slots, and each slot holds up to 16 stacks, but items with NBT data don't stack and take a whole slot. The actuator keeps its contents when broken, like a Shulker Box. Storage Stabilizers ("Upgrading Our Magical Storage" quest) raise capacity. They must point at the Matrix, not the base, from up to 5 blocks away with clear line of sight. For remote access, see "Remote Access" quest.[3]

After Strigeor's Higher Binding you can also make the Apprentice Ritual Satchel ("Tools of the Trade: Ritual Satchel" quest). It slowly auto-places a ritual's runes for you, and its glint disappears when a chalk inside drops under 40% durability. You can also make a Soul Gem ("Empty Soul Gem" quest), which the pack needs for the ATM Star.[3]

"Iesnium: Ore of the Otherworld" quest sends you to the Nether for Iesnium Ore. Without the Third Eye it looks exactly like Netherrack. Attune a Divination Rod to Netherrack to find it, and mine it with the Infused Pickaxe. Standard ore doubling doesn't work on it, so run your raw ore through the Foliot Crusher to double your ingots. Spend your first ingots on an Iesnium Pickaxe ("The Otherworld Pickaxe" quest), which lasts a lot longer.[3]

"Demon Mining" quest has you build a Dimensional Mineshaft and place a Mining Demon confined to a lamp inside it. Higher-tier miners work faster and have a better chance of mining Iesnium.[3]
Afrit rituals and the late chalks
First you need Orange Chalk ("Orange Chalk" quest). You get it from Cursed Honey, which drops from Possessed Bees summoned with Ihagan's Enthrallment. Once you have Gray Chalk, Orange Chalk and Iesnium, "Kandar's Opened Conjure" quest lets you summon an Afrit. Without Red Chalk, though, it arrives unbound and violent.[3]
Red Chalk opens "Sevira's Permanent Confinement" quest, the third tier of Infusion Rituals. It makes Witherite Dust (three per craft) for Black Chalk ("Black Chalk" quest), the highest foundation chalk. Pink Chalk ("Pink Chalk" quest) uses Demonic Meat from Possessed Zombified Piglins summoned by Odus' Open Convocation.[3]
Afrit-bound rituals give you two big quality-of-life upgrades. The first is the Artisanal Ritual Satchel ("Tools of the Trade: Artisanal Ritual Satchel" quest). It places a whole ritual instantly, and if you right-click the Golden Bowl it clears the chalk and collects everything else back. It doesn't restore chalk durability, though. The second is the Iesnium Ritual Bowl ("Iesnium Ritual Bowl" quest), which the quest pitches as super-speed rituals.[3][5]

Unverified The quest chapter continues past the Iesnium Ritual Bowl, toward quests like Rainbow Chalk, but the exact order and requirements of those later quests couldn't be confirmed here.
How does Occultism work with other mods?
4 parts
Occultism is tied into the rest of All the Mods 10 through pack-made recipes and quests. The quests tell you straight up that you'll need the Dictionary Of Spirits to craft several things in the pack, so make it early even if you'd rather follow its built-in guide than the questbook.[3]
The ATM Star
The Chapter 3: The ATM Star questline has its own "Occultism" quest branch. Two of the pack's own endgame recipes need Occultism items: the Dragon Soul needs a Soul Gem and a Dragon Familiar Spawn Egg, and the Pulsating Black Hole needs a Stable Wormhole.[4][5]
- "Stable Wormhole" quest: you make the Stable Wormhole with the ritual of Eziveus' Spectral Compulsion.[4]
- "Dragon Familiar in a Creature Catcher" quest: the Dragon Familiar comes from the ritual Ihagan's Enthrallment. The horse you sacrifice has to be nearby while the ritual runs. Then you throw a Creature Catcher at the familiar to use it for the ATM Star.[4]
- "Empty Soul Gem" quest: this quest in the same chapter asks for a Soul Gem.[4]

Which All the Mods 10 quests use Occultism?
6 parts
Occultism gets its own dedicated quest chapter in this pack, and it walks you from your very first weird seed all the way to endgame rituals. Everything kicks off with "Dreaming of Demons" quest, which only asks you to grab some Demon's Dream Seeds.[3]
Getting started
- "Little Book o' Demons" quest asks for the Dictionary Of Spirits. It's the mod's guide book, and you'll also need it to craft several things in the pack, so don't skip it.[3]
- "Demon Fruit" quest asks for Demon's Dream. Eating it can give you the Third Eye effect, which lets you see Otherworld blocks hiding in the world.[3]
- "Spiritfire Conversions" quest asks for Otherstone, an Unstable Otherworld Sapling and a Spirit Attuned Gem, all made by throwing materials into Spiritfire.[3]
- "Tools of the Trade: Divination Rod" quest follows with the Divination Rod, which points you toward the nearest Otherworld material it's attuned to.[3]
Your first ritual
Next, four prep quests unlock after the chapter's ritual basics quest. "Preparing for a Ritual: Chalk" quest wants Impure White Chalk, White Chalk and the Chalk Brush. "Preparing for a Ritual: Bowls" quest wants a regular and a golden ritual bowl. "Books of Binding" quest wants Purified Ink and a Book of Binding: Foliot. "Tools of the Trade: Butcher's Knife" quest wants the Butcher Knife and leads into "Preparing for a Ritual: Candles" quest, which also asks for a Spirit Attuned Crystal.[3]
All four feed into "Our First Ritual" quest, where you summon a Foliot Crusher using Aviar's Circle. The tasks are a Book of Binding: Foliot (Bound) plus iron, silver, gold and copper ingots. You'll place 4 Sacrificial Bowls within an 8 block horizontal radius of the center bowl.[3]
Dimensional Storage
With your Crusher working, "Chalking It Up" quest asks for yellow, purple and light gray impure chalk. That opens "Demonic Magical Storage!" quest: craft the Dimensional Crystal Matrix, a storage actuator base and the Dimensional Storage Actuator. By default it has 128 slots, and each slot holds up to 16 stacks, except for items with NBT data.[3]
From there, "Upgrading Our Magical Storage" quest accepts any Storage Stabilizer, which must point at the Matrix from up to 5 blocks away. "Remote Access" quest asks for a Stable Wormhole and a Storage Accessor.[3]
Mid-game: Otherworld tools and more chalk
- After Eziveus' Spectral Compulsion, you get "Tools of the Trade: Spectral Goggles" quest for the Otherworld Goggles, which give Third Eye even in a Curios slot. "Lime Chalk" quest and "Green Chalk" quest unlock at the same point.[3]
- "Tools of the Trade: Infused Pickaxe" quest leads to "Iesnium: Ore of the Otherworld" quest, where you hunt Iesnium Ore in the Nether, then to "The Otherworld Pickaxe" quest and "Demon Mining" quest with the Dimensional Mineshaft.[3]
- After Strigeor's Higher Binding, you unlock "Gray Chalk" quest, "Empty Soul Gem" quest and "Tools of the Trade: Ritual Satchel" quest.[3]
- "Orange Chalk" quest needs Cursed Honey from a Possessed Bee. "Pink Chalk" quest needs Demonic Meat.[3]
- Gray Chalk, Orange Chalk and Iesnium unlock "Kandar's Opened Conjure" quest. That leads to "Red Chalk" quest and then "Sevira's Permanent Confinement" quest.[3]
- Sevira's opens "Black Chalk" quest, "Tools of the Trade: Artisanal Ritual Satchel" quest and "Iesnium Ritual Bowl" quest. The Iesnium Ritual Bowl cuts ritual time down to one fourth.[3]
Endgame rituals
"Blue Chalk" quest needs Marid Essence. It unlocks "Fatma's Incentivized Attraction" quest, which summons a Marid Crusher that gives 6 dusts per raw ore, and "Uphyxes' Inverted Tower" quest, the top tier of Infusion Rituals. Those unlock "Light Blue Chalk" quest, "&#AD00C8Magenta Chalk" quest, "Cyan Chalk" quest and the Iesnium Anvil quest a quest in "Occultism". "E2C00Brown Chalk" quest comes from Xeovrenth Adjure.[3]
The ATM Star
Occultism also shows up in Chapter 3: The ATM Star. The "Occultism" quest quest there asks for Demon's Dream Seeds. The Soul Gem is also needed for the ATM Star.[3][4]
Unverified The source listings were cut off (the Occultism chapter after Ronaza's Contact and most of the ATM Star chapter), so any later Occultism quests, such as those involving the Trinity Gem, Eldritch Chalice, Stable Wormhole or Dragon Familiar, could not be confirmed here.
Which Occultism config options matter?
Occultism is a ritual magic mod built around summoning spirits to do work for you. They can automate tasks, store huge amounts of items, mine in void dimensions and help you make enchanted tools and jewelry, and familiars can support you too. Those are the systems you'd most likely want to check settings for.[1]
Unverified We couldn't check this pack's Occultism config files, so we can't tell you which options matter most or whether All the Mods 10 8.1 changes any values from the mod defaults. This section will be filled in once the in-pack config values can be confirmed.
What changed in Occultism between versions?
1 part
All the Mods 10 8.1 ships Occultism 1.224.4. The mod has been part of the pack since version 2.25 or earlier, so it has been around for most of the pack's life.[2]
The pack has updated Occultism regularly. It went from 1.172.0 in pack version 2.26 to 1.224.4 in 8.1. The biggest single jump came in 5.5, which moved the mod from 1.197.0 to 1.205.0.[7][8][9]
Occultism updates by pack release
- 8.1: updated from 1.224.2 to 1.224.4.[8]

Unverified The pack changelogs only record version numbers. We have no source for what each Occultism update actually changed, such as new rituals, spirits, recipe changes or bug fixes, so those details are not covered here. Check the mod's own changelog if you want to know what a specific update added or fixed.
