What is Actually Additions?

1 part

Actually Additions is a magitech mod full of gadgets. In this pack you get version 1.3.26 for Minecraft 1.21.1, and it has been in the pack since 2.25 or earlier.[1][2]

The core idea is that you use the Atomic Reconstructor and the Empowerer to turn minerals into powerful crystals. Those crystals unlock machines for processing and sorting items, lasers that move energy, items and fluids wirelessly, and renewable oil for power.[1]

Where you'll meet it in the pack

The quest text for the Atomic Reconstructor says the goal there is to automate the Star, so that lens chain is worth knowing about.[4]

Unverified Whether Actually Additions is a required step on the ATM Star quest path is not confirmed by the sources, so treat it as optional until you see it in your own quest book.

How do you get started with Actually Additions?

5 parts

Actually Additions is a magitech mod built around crystals, machines and power. The mod's own description says you use the Atomic Reconstructor and the Empowerer to turn minerals into powerful crystals, and those crystals lead to useful machines. Here is the order I'd go in.[1]

Step 1: Make the manual

Start with the Actually Additions Manual (WIP), the mod's in-game guide. In this pack its item name is marked WIP. Its recipe builds on Canola Seeds, and those have their own recipe, so both are shown here in the order you craft them.[6]

Step 2: Get some power going

Next, build a Coal Generator. The pack's quest book places it in the Basic Power chapter, in the Fossil Fuels group, after the Early Game Power Options quest. It calls these generators some of the easiest to make. They are very simple to use, they make a decent amount of power based on the combustible material you put in, and they automatically distribute power to adjacent blocks.[3]

Step 3: Build the Atomic Reconstructor

The Atomic Reconstructor is the machine the mod is built around. The quest in Chapter 4: Creative says you get a pretty useful machine for such a simple recipe. Where you place it decides where it aims, like a dispenser. Give it power, then use a Redstone Torch to set how it works: in deactivate mode a redstone signal switches it off, and in pulse mode a signal makes it fire.[4]

Quest: a quest in "Chapter 4: Creative"

The mod also has an achievement for making a crystal with the Atomic Reconstructor, which is a good first goal for the machine. If you keep following the quest chapter, the next quest is "Lens of Certain Death" quest, where you drop Lens items in front of the Reconstructor to upgrade them step by step.[4][7]

Step 4: Turn shards into crystals

Crystal shards compress into full crystals with simple crafting recipes, and each crystal can then be compressed again into a crystal block. The Restonia Crystal is the one to start with, since coils come next.[6]

Step 5: Craft coils

The Basic Coil is a building block for many early machines in this pack, including the Auto-Breaker, the Coffee Maker and the Battery Box. It is also the base for the Advanced Coil.[6]

How does Actually Additions work?

7 parts

Actually Additions is built around one loop: you turn minerals into crystals with the Atomic Reconstructor and the Empowerer, and those crystals unlock machines for processing and sorting items, plus lasers that move energy, items and fluids wirelessly. The mod also adds renewable oil for power. This section covers how those systems behave in the pack, as far as the sources explain them.[1]

The Atomic Reconstructor

The Atomic Reconstructor is your entry point. The mod even has an achievement for making a crystal with it. In the pack it can store 300,000 energy, set by machineSettings.reconstructorPower, which is the mod default. Its Mining Lens uses 60,000 energy, set by machineSettings.minerLensEnergy, also the mod default.[7][8]

Coils

Coils show up as ingredients in several of the mod's crafts. The Basic Coil is the first tier, and the Advanced Coil is the next. The pack changed the Advanced Coil recipe, so don't rely on the mod's default version. Use the recipe below.[6]

Laser relays: energy, items and fluids

Laser relays are how you network machines. In the pack's config, Energy Laser Relays are set to have energy loss, because machineSettings.laserRelayLoss is true.[8]

The pack's config sets machineSettings.fluidLaserTransferRate, the amount of fluid the Fluid Laser Relay can transfer per tick, to 2,147,483,647. The mod default is 10,000, so this is a big change.[8]

Laser relays can be set to move things only out of adjacent blocks or only into adjacent blocks. To change this you need to hold the relay configurator item. In the pack that item is a compass, set by other.relayConfigurator.[7][8]

Item automation with interfaces

The mod's in-game text explains that an Item Laser Relay network on its own only knows about the items and slots in the containers connected to it. To work with those items, you place an Item Interface next to an Item Laser Relay. The interface pretends to be one very large chest holding every slot of every connected container.[7]

That means a hopper or any other item transport can insert into it and pull from it like a chest. Nothing is actually stored in the interface. Items go to and come from the relay network.[7]

The mod's in-game text says the Hopping Item Interface connects the same way, by placing it next to an Item Laser Relay. The difference is that it pulls and pushes items on its own, with the functionality of a hopper, and it stores items in the network instead of an internal inventory.[7]

Machine area and generator settings

Several machines have a working area or rate you can tune in the config. For the settings below, the pack's value matches the mod default.[8]

Vertical Digger and Drill filters

The config describes the Vertical Digger as mining everything in the forge ores tags by default. machineSettings.verticalDiggerBlacklist stops it mining listed blocks in both modes. machineSettings.verticalDiggerExtraWhitelist adds extra blocks, but only in Ores Only Mode. The pack leaves both lists empty.[8]

The Drill has its own extra list, itemsSettings.drillExtraWhitelist. The pack's config sets it to a single entry, TConstruct:GravelOre.[8]

Redstone mode and batteries

The in-game text says you toggle a machine's redstone mode by right-clicking it while holding the redstone configurator. In the pack that item is a redstone torch (other.redstoneConfigurator).[7][8]

The battery tooltips say a sneak-right-click toggles between charging other items in your inventory and not charging them.[7]

Some machines are built as multiblocks. The mod has a message for when a controller is not part of the right multiblock, and it points you to the controller's description, so read that description before building.[7]

Tip: Sneak while looking at an Actually Additions block to see more information about it. Holding Control on an item shows advanced info in its tooltip, as long as the advanced info options in the config are on, which they are in the pack.[7][8]

How do you progress through Actually Additions?

6 parts

Actually Additions doesn't get one long questline in this pack. The quests that touch it are spread across a few chapters, so this page follows the in-pack recipes tier by tier and points out the quests along the way.[3][4][5]

Step 1: The manual

The Actually Additions Manual (WIP) is the mod's in-game manual, and it is still marked WIP. Here is the recipe.[6]

Step 2: Power with the Coal Generator

The "Coal Generators" quest quest sits in the Basic Power chapter, in the Fossil Fuels group, right after Early Game Power Options. It calls coal generators some of the easiest generators to make. They create a decent amount of power based on the fuel you put in, and they automatically distribute power to adjacent blocks. The quest accepts the Coal Generator or generators from two other mods.[3]

Crystals

The mod has six crystal families: Restonia, Palis, Diamatine, Void, Emeradic and Enori. Shards compress into crystals, crystals compress into blocks, and the empowered crystals have their own block recipes too. The block recipes can be reversed by crafting a block back into crystals.[6]

Crystals gate several recipes. The Void Crystal is part of the Auto-Breaker and the Coffee Maker. The Empowered Enori Crystal is needed for the Bio Reactor. The Empowered Diamatine Crystal is needed for the Lens of Disenchanting.[6]

Step 4: Atomic Reconstructor and lenses

In the Chapter 4: Creative quest chapter, the a quest in "Chapter 4: Creative" quest has you make the Atomic Reconstructor. The quest describes it as a simple recipe for a very useful machine. Place it down and give it power. How you place it changes where it aims, like a dispenser. A Redstone Torch sets how it works: on deactivate it stops when it receives a signal, and on pulse it fires whenever it receives one.[4]

Next comes "Lens of Certain Death" quest. You drop a Lens in front of the Reconstructor and it turns into a Lens of Color. Drop that and it becomes a Lens of Detonation. Keep repeating until you have the Lens of Certain Death. The final step from Detonation to Certain Death is a laser recipe.[4][6]

Laser (actuallyadditions)

Recipe id: actuallyadditions:laser/lens_of_certain_death

The last quest in the chain is "Lens of the Killer" quest. It says there is no more dropping at this stage and you craft the lens instead. The quest text also mentions an Enchanted Book of Sharpness V from the Runic Enchanter, but the recipe below is the one the pack actually uses.[4][6]

Optional extras

The Lens of Disenchanting goes into an Atomic Reconstructor. Throw an enchanted item and a single book in front of the laser, and it moves one enchantment from the item onto the book. It is one of the methods covered in the "Disenchanting Methods" quest quest.[5]

The Coffee Maker also counts as a villager workstation. According to the "Mo' Professions" quest quest, it gives the Engineer profession.[5]

How does Actually Additions work with other mods?

4 parts

Actually Additions doesn't live in isolation in this pack. Several recipes and quests tie its items to other mods, and a few of them are pack-specific changes you won't find in the mod's defaults. Here are the connections that show up in the pack's recipes and quests.[3][4][5][6]

Getting Black Quartz from other mods

Black Quartz can come from outside Actually Additions. The pack adds a crafting recipe that turns Black Quartz Essence from Mystical Agriculture into it.[6]

Productive Bees also has a bee conversion recipe that takes a Block of Black Quartz as its input. The pack changed this recipe from the default.[6]

Modern Industrialization Runic hatches

Actually Additions' laser relays are used to build the Runic hatches from Modern Industrialization. The pack adds all of these recipes, and each one is made in an Auto Forge together with items from several other mods. The matching relay decides what kind of hatch you get: the Energy Laser Relay is used for the Runic Energy Input Hatch, the Item Laser Relay for the item hatches, and the Fluid Laser Relay for the fluid hatches.[6]

The ATM Star and the Lens of the Killer

The biggest link is the ATM Star. Its Star Altar recipe, added by the pack, needs the Lens of the Killer (WIP) along with items from other mods.[6]

It starts with the Atomic Reconstructor and its redstone modes, then moves on to the Lens of Certain Death and finally the Lens of the Killer. For the last step, the quest points you to the Runic Enchanter for the enchanted book you need. See a quest in "Chapter 4: Creative", "Lens of Certain Death" quest and "Lens of the Killer" quest.[4]

Quests that mention Actually Additions alongside other mods

Which All the Mods 10 quests use Actually Additions?

3 parts

Actually Additions shows up in three quest chapters in this pack: Chapter 4: Creative, Tips and Tricks and Basic Power. The Creative chapter has the only real chain, three quests in a row. The other two are single quests where an Actually Additions item is one of several accepted tasks.[3][4][5]

Chapter 4: Creative

This chapter walks you through the Atomic Reconstructor and its lenses. Do the quests in this order:[4]

  1. a quest in "Chapter 4: Creative" asks you to obtain the Atomic Reconstructor. The quest text explains that how you place it changes where it aims, like a dispenser. It needs power, and a Redstone Torch sets how it works: on deactivate it switches off when it receives a Redstone signal, and on pulse it activates whenever it receives one.[4]
  2. "Lens of Certain Death" quest asks you to obtain the Lens of Certain Death. You drop a lens in front of the Atomic Reconstructor and it transforms when it fires. A basic lens becomes a Lens of Color, and a Lens of Color becomes a Lens of Detonation. You keep repeating this until you reach the Lens of Certain Death.[4]
  3. "Lens of the Killer" quest asks you to obtain the Lens of the Killer (WIP). The quest says there is no more dropping at this stage. You craft it from the Lens of Certain Death, a Diamond Sword and an Enchanted Book of Sharpness V. The quest points you to the Runic Enchanter for the books and says another quest covers it.[4]

Tips and Tricks

"Disenchanting Methods" quest is a roundup of ways to get enchantments off items and onto books. It accepts many different items as its task, including the Lens of Disenchanting. The quest explains that this lens goes into an Atomic Reconstructor. You throw an enchanted item and a single book in front of the laser, and it moves a single enchantment from the item onto the book.[5]

"Mo' Professions" quest is about modded villager professions. It comes after the Easy Villagers quest. The Coffee Maker is one of the accepted task items, and the quest text lists it as the workstation for the Engineer profession.[5]

Basic Power

"Coal Generators" quest ("Fossil Fuels") comes after the Early Game Power Options quest. Its task accepts the Coal Generator or either of two other mods' coal generators, so you can pick whichever you prefer. The quest describes these generators as some of the easiest to make and very simple to use. They produce a decent amount of power depending on the fuel you feed them, and they automatically distribute power to adjacent blocks.[3]

Which Actually Additions config options matter?

5 parts

Almost everything for this mod lives in a single file, config/actuallyadditions-common.toml. The good news is that the pack barely touches it. Only the fluid transfer rate is flagged as changed from the mod default, so for the rest you can plan around the normal Actually Additions numbers.[8]

The value the pack changed

machineSettings.fluidLaserTransferRate controls how much fluid a Fluid Laser Relay can transfer per tick. The mod default is 10,000, but this pack sets it to 2,147,483,647.[8]

Machine settings

What the drill and Vertical Digger can mine

The Vertical Digger mines everything in the forge:ores tags by default. In this pack both machineSettings.verticalDiggerBlacklist and machineSettings.verticalDiggerExtraWhitelist are empty, so nothing is added or removed.[8]

The drill's extra list, itemsSettings.drillExtraWhitelist, contains a single entry: TConstruct:GravelOre.[8]

Configurator tools

Worldgen and other toggles

Canola (worldgenSettings.generateCanola), coffee (worldgenSettings.generateCoffee), flax (worldgenSettings.generateFlax) and Black Quartz (worldgenSettings.generateQuartz) all generate in the world. Mod loot in dungeons is on too (other.villageAndDungeonLoot), and Tiny Coal and Tiny Charcoal are craftable (other.tinyCoal).[8]

Tilling soil can drop worms (other.tillingWorms). They never die on their own, because other.wormDeathTime is 0, the mod default. The booklet is given when you first craft something from the mod (other.giveBookletOnFirstCraft).[8]

Tip: Holding Control on any item shows advanced item info, because other.advancedInfo and other.advancedInfoTooltips are both on.[8]
Watch out: Leave other.superDuperHardRecipes off, which is how this pack ships it. The config describes it as a joke feature that makes the mod's recipes so hard it becomes completely unplayable.[8]
