What is EvilCraft?

1 part

EvilCraft ships with this pack at version 1.2.58, built for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.1, and it has been part of the pack since well before this release.[1]

In this pack the mod is wired into the quest book rather than left as an optional side mod, so you get a clear reason to touch it and a short checklist of goals instead of having to guess what to build.[2][3]

Where it fits in progression

Your entry point is a quest in "?", which asks for a Dark Gem. That single quest is the gate: once it's done, four follow-up quests open up at the same time, so you can chase whichever appeals to you first.[2]

There's also one EvilCraft entry outside that group: a quest in "?" in the basic tools chapter asks for a Vein Sword, so the mod shows up early as a weapon option too.[3]

Tip: If you only want the quest rewards, focus on Dark Gem first, since every other EvilCraft quest in that chapter is locked behind it.[2]

Unverified The pack files here only cover the mod version and its quests, so the underlying EvilCraft mechanics, machines and tiers aren't confirmed from the pack side. Check the mod in-game or in JEI before planning a big build around it. This site does hold All the Mods 10's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How do you get started with EvilCraft?

3 parts

EvilCraft starts underground. Dark Gems are the gateway material for everything else in the mod, and the pack's quest chapter agrees: your first EvilCraft objective is simply to get a Dark Gem in hand.[2][4]

Mining Dark Gems is what the mod calls discovering the origins of the first evil age, so go caving and keep an eye out for them while you're grabbing your early ores.[4]

If you're already into bees, there's a second route: a Productive Bees centrifuge recipe produces Dark Gem, Crushed Dark Gem and Wax, so a dark gem hive can feed your supply passively.[5]

Tip: Dark Gems compress into Dark Blocks and back again, so pack them down for storage and unpack whenever you need gems for a recipe.[5]

    Spikes and the Blood Extractor

Your first real crafts are Spikes. They're sharp, durable, and mobs don't like them very much, which is exactly the point later on when you start draining blood.[4]

Spikes plus another Dark Gem get you the Blood Extractor. Crafting it is what the mod treats as initiating the second evil age, so this is your real graduation from "mining rocks" to "doing blood magic".[4][5]

    Somewhere to put the blood

Once blood starts flowing you need storage, and the Dark Tank is the pack's answer. It's also a quest objective in its own right, unlocked after you turn in your first Dark Gem.[2][5]

    • A single Dark Tank holds about sixteen buckets of fluid.[4]
    • Place several tanks together in a crafting grid to increase capacity, and no fluid is lost in the process.[4]
    • Right-click a placed tank to give it a purple glow and open a hole underneath, which auto-fills tanks, item containers and players carrying containers below it.[4]
    • Shift + right-click while holding the tank and not aiming at a block to make it auto-fill whatever container you're holding.[4]

    Where the quests go next

After the Dark Gem quest, the pack opens up several branches at once, so you can pick whichever appeals to you rather than following one straight line.[2]

There's also a separate tools quest, a quest in "?", for the Vein Sword. It's a natural mid-term goal once you have Dark Power Gems and a stock of Spikes.[3][5]

Watch out: Some EvilCraft blocks can't be crafted at all: the Environmental Accumulator is only found at Dark Temples. If you want one at home, you'll need the craftable Sanguinary Environmental Accumulator instead.[4]

    How does EvilCraft work?

    6 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 1.27 guide

EvilCraft splits its progression into evil ages. The first age begins when you mine your first Dark Gem, and the second begins when you craft a Blood Extractor. Most of the mod's deeper systems revolve around two resources: Blood, and the Vengeance Spirits you'll run into along the way.[4]

    Getting Blood into the world

Blood shows up naturally. When an entity falls to its death, it leaves a Blood Stain behind. Dried Blood forms as Hardened Blood, which turns back into liquid when it rains or when you break it.[4]

To collect Blood from stains, you use Sanguinary Pedestals. The basic pedestal drains Blood from blood stains in the area, and the upgraded version drains more. Pair a pedestal with a Spiked Plate, which damages mobs and can be placed on a Pedestal to drain their blood, and you've got the core of a Blood farm.[4]

The Spiked Plate is made from Spikes and damages any mob that walks over it, but you and other players take no damage. The Dark Gem power in it makes mobs killed this way drop the same things they would if a player killed them.[4]

Tip: Spiked Plates also give off a redstone signal while a mob is taking damage, so you can use them to trigger other parts of your setup.[4]

    Blood machines

Crafting the Blood Extractor is what starts the second evil age, so it's the first real Blood machine you'll build.[4][6]

The key component for the next machines is the Blood Infusion Core. In this pack's recipes, it goes into both the Blood Infuser and the Blood Chest. There's also a Colossal Blood Chest, described as an industry-sized Blood Chest.[4][6]

    Fluid handling

The Dark Tank is EvilCraft's fluid container. It's made with Iron, Dark Gems and Glass, and it can either be placed down or carried in your inventory. A single tank holds about sixteen buckets.[4]

    • To expand capacity, place several Dark Tanks together in a crafting grid. No fluid is lost when you combine them.[4]
    • Right-clicking a placed tank gives it a purple glow and opens a hole at the bottom. It then automatically fills tanks, item containers and players carrying containers underneath it.[4]
    • Shift + right-click with the tank in your hand while not aiming at a block to enable auto-supply. The tank then tries to fill any container you're holding that can accept its fluid.[4]

Entangled Chalices take this further: their contents are omnipresent, and Shift + right-click switches them to omni-supply. If you just need water, Eternal Water is an infinite source of water.[4]

Item handling and crafting on the go

The Display Stand is a handy automation block that works with any wood type and any rotation. You can pipe items in and out through its top or bottom. Interacting from any other side passes through to the displayed item itself, so you can reach its inventory, fluids and energy.[4]

The Exalted Crafter uses the power of Crushed Dark Gem to let you craft from within your inventory. Attach a chest to it for an internal inventory; even an Ender Chest works.[4]

    • You can bind it to a hotkey. Pressing that hotkey while the GUI is open clears the grid, and pressing it with Shift balances the items across the grid.[4]
    • A toggle button chooses where shift-removed items go: the crafter's inner inventory or your player inventory.[4]
    • Strike it with lightning to bind it to reality, so it can't be destroyed and won't disappear when dropped.[4]

    Environmental Accumulators and Biome Extracts

The Environmental Accumulator is found at Dark Temples and can't be crafted. One of its abilities is filling Biome Extract bottles with the biome it's currently placed in. You can then throw those bottles on the ground to transform that area into the stored biome.[4]

Watch out: The Environmental Accumulator degrades its own biome over time, so the bottles it produces eventually become pretty useless.[4]

The Sanguinary Environmental Accumulator is the craftable version. It needs tanks containing Blood at specific locations around it, and it will tell you where they're missing. The empty Biome Extract bottle itself has a crafting recipe in this pack.[4][6]

Unverified The exact positions where the Sanguinary Environmental Accumulator needs its Blood tanks, and how much Blood it uses, aren't covered by the available sources.

    Vengeance Spirits

Vengeance Spirits have their own processing chain. You capture one with a Vengeance Focus into a Box of Eternal Closure. From there, the Spirit Furnace cooks captured spirits to get their drops, and it halts when it runs out of space for drops. The Spirit Reanimator revives spirits instead, but it only works with a valid box, a mob that has a spawn egg, and no mismatched mob eggs inside.[4]

Tip: Want to keep Vengeance Spirits away from your base? A Gem Stone Torch blocks them from spawning within a radius of 15 blocks.[4]

How do you progress through EvilCraft?

    5 parts

EvilCraft in this pack runs on one currency: dark gems. Almost every tier of the mod branches off them, and the pack's quests follow that same shape. The first EvilCraft quest simply asks you to hold a Dark Gem, and four more quests unlock from it, so getting your first gems is the real gate on everything below.[2]

    Tier 1: dark gems

Hand Dark Gem in for the opening quest and the rest of the EvilCraft chain opens up. Gems compress into Dark Block and back, so storage is easy once you have a steady supply.[2][5]

This pack also gives you a bee route: centrifuging the EvilCraft honeycomb from Productive Bees yields Dark Gem and Crushed Dark Gem alongside wax, which is a nice passive trickle once your automation is running.[5]

    Centrifuge (productivebees)

      Recipe id: productivebees:centrifuge/evilcraft/honeycomb_dark_gem

      Tier 2: basic dark gear

With gems in hand you build the workhorse parts: Dark Stick, Spike and Blood Extractor, the tool that gets blood flowing. The Dark Tank is your storage for that blood, and it is one of the four quests that unlocks straight off the dark gem quest.[2][5]

Tier 3: dark power gems and the Blood Infuser

Dark Power Gem is the step up from a plain gem, and it is the key to the mod's mid game. Combined with a Hardened Blood Shard it makes the Blood Infusion Core, the component that shows up in nearly every serious EvilCraft machine and trinket.[5]

Dark power gems also unlock your first real weapon tier. The Vein Sword is its own quest over in the basic tools chapter, so you can pick it up independently of the main EvilCraft chain.[3][5]

      Tier 4: infusion-core gear

Once cores are repeatable, spend them on quality-of-life kit: Blood Chest and Colossal Blood Chest for repairing gear, Invigorating Pendant for a wearable buff, and Kineticator or Repelling Kineticator for item pickup. The kineticators also want a filled Blood Orb, so keep your blood production going.[5]

Tier 5: End-tier and empowered gear

Tip: Four quests branch off the dark gem quest at once, so there is no forced order after that first step. If you just want the weapon, the Vein Sword sits in a separate chapter and only needs tier 3 materials.[2][3][5]

Unverified The sources here do not cover how you first obtain Dark Gems from the world, or how Dark Power Gems, Hardened Blood Shards, Garmonbozia and Empowered Inverted Potentia are produced in this pack. How does EvilCraft work with other mods?

      3 parts

EvilCraft doesn't live on its own in this pack. A few pack-added recipes and some Productive Bees recipes tie its items into other mods' progression. Here's what the recipe dump shows.[5]

      Pack-added recipes

The Oblivion Shard gets a pack-added crafting recipe that links EvilCraft's Blood with the Eternal Stella from Forbidden Arcanus. This is a pack change, not an EvilCraft default. The recipe block below shows the exact ingredients.[5]

The Pulsating Black Hole is a much bigger crossover. Its pack-added recipe takes one item from each of many mods. EvilCraft's contribution is the Lightning Bomb. The other ingredients come from Applied Energistics 2, Industrial Foregoing, Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks, Just Dire Things, Occultism, PneumaticCraft, Pocket Storage and Roots Classic.[5]

Undead planks through other mods' sawmills

The pack adds two ways to turn EvilCraft's undead logs (the #evilcraft:undead_logs tag) into Undead Planks. One uses Mekanism's sawing machine, which also gives you Sawdust. The other uses the Productive Trees sawmill and works with Sawdust.[5]

      Productive Bees

On the quest side, the sources only show quests that ask for EvilCraft items. In the chapter chapter_2_the_star, a quest in "?" asks for the Dark Gem, and four quests come after it: a quest in "?" for the Lightning Bomb, a quest in "?" for the Dark Tank, a quest in "?" for the Piercing Vengeance Focus and a quest in "?" for the Mace of Destruction. The Lightning Bomb and the Piercing Vengeance Focus are also ingredients in the pack recipes above. In the basic_tools chapter, a quest in "?" asks for the Vein Sword.[2][3][5]

Which All the Mods 10 quests use EvilCraft?

        2 parts

EvilCraft shows up in the pack's quest book in a couple of places. They are all item-submission quests: each one has a single task, which is to obtain one EvilCraft item. The quests have no titles in the quest book, so I refer to them by their ids.[2][3]

        Chapter: chapter_2_the_star

This chapter holds most of the EvilCraft quests, and they branch out from one starting quest. Start with a quest in "?", which asks for a Dark Gem. Everything else in this chapter depends on it.[2]

Once that quest is done, four more open up. Each one lists the Dark Gem quest as its prerequisite and none depends on another, so you can take them in any order:[2]

        Chapter: basic_tools

There is one more EvilCraft quest outside that chapter. a quest in "?" asks for a Vein Sword. It lists no prerequisite quest, so it is available whenever you reach the chapter.[3]

Tip: The quest book only asks you to have each item, and these sources don't include any rewards. Dark Gem is the gate for the rest of the EvilCraft quests in chapter_2_the_star, so craft it first.[2]
