What is Forbidden and Arcanus ?
2 parts
Forbidden & Arcanus adds magical content designed to feel like it could belong in vanilla Minecraft. It also adds a big batch of new building blocks, so it suits both magic fans and builders.[1]
All the Mods 10 8.1 ships version 2.6.1 of the mod.[2]
The pack's own quest "Forbidden \& Arcanus" quest sums it up well. The mod is about using the Arcane to perform rituals with the Forge and become stronger. Most players know it for Eternal Stella, but there's a lot more to it.[3]
How progression works
Your first trips are underground. Darkstone is the mod's most used block, and every multiblock uses it as a base. You'll also mine Arcane Crystal, which you'll need a lot of, along with Rune and the very rare Stellarite Piece.[4]
From there you build up to the Forge, which has slots you fill with resources. Aureal is the first and most important slot, and Blood is the 3rd. On the way you'll make Mundabitur Dust, a key ingredient for multiblocks, and build the Clibano, a multiblock that works like a jumbo furnace.[4]
Later you go looking for rare items in structures. The hardest to get is Divine Pact, which you need for the Soul Binding Crystal and the end-game multiblocks.[4]
The ATM Star path
Forbidden & Arcanus is part of Chapter 3 of the ATM Star path. The big milestone is the "Runic Star Altar" quest, a 15x8x15 multiblock made with Modern Industrialization. It's built mostly from this mod's blocks, including Polished Darkstone, Arcane Crystal Obelisk, Rune Block, Magnetized Darkstone Pedestal and a Quantum Injector.[3]
How do you get started with Forbidden and Arcanus ?
7 parts
Forbidden and Arcanus starts underground. Almost everything you build early on comes from a few ores and one special dust, so your first job is a mining trip. The quest chapter follows a clear path from raw materials to the Hephaestus Forge, and this section walks you through it in order.[4]
Go mining first
- Darkstone appears deep underground near lava lakes, for example around Y level -54. It's the mod's most used block, and every multiblock uses it as a base, so grab a ton of it. It's tracked by "Darkstone" quest.[4]
- Arcane Crystal spawns from Y level 14 down to -40 and is most common at -13. It's fairly common, but you'll need a lot of it. Its quest is "Arcane Crystals" quest.[4]
- Rune spawns from bedrock up to Y level 2, including near Darkstone, so you can pick it up on the same trip. Its quest is "Runes" quest.[4]
- Stellarite Piece spawns between Y level 42 and -44, but it's very rare. It's tracked by "Stellarite Pieces" quest.[4]
Arcane Crystal Dust
Next, turn some of your crystals into Arcane Crystal Dust. You just smelt Arcane Crystals. Later, the Clibano can do this job too and gives you a few bits of Arcane Crystal back.[4][5]

Mundabitur Dust
Mundabitur Dust is a very important crafting ingredient. You also right-click it on structures to form the mod's multiblocks. This pack changes the recipe, so use the one shown below rather than an older guide. You can also find it in End Cities.[4][5]

Your first alloy: Deorum
Once you have both dusts, you can make the Deorum Ingot, unlocked by "Deorum" quest. It's the foundational ingot of the mod, and you'll need dozens of them, mostly for the building blocks of your multiblock machines. This pack also changes the Deorum recipe, so check the block below.[4][5]

Build the Hephaestus Forge
The Forge is your big early goal, covered by "Building the Forge" quest. The base uses 9 Gilded Chiseled Polished Darkstone, 4 Chiseled Arcane Polished Darkstone and 45 Polished Darkstone. Keep the area above clear, because the forge needs it for the transformation.[6]
Place a Smithing Table on the inner Gilded Chiseled Polished Darkstone and hit it with Mundabitur Dust to create the Hephaestus Forge. Then put Darkstone Pedestal blocks on top of the 8 outer Gilded Chiseled Polished Darkstone blocks.[4]

What comes next
Aureal is the first and most important slot in the Forge. To fill it, find Aureal Bottle items in chests in most structures, or craft them. Later, you can automate Aureal with Arcane Crystal Obelisk blocks placed where the pedestals go.[4]
How does Forbidden and Arcanus work?
5 parts
The centerpiece of Forbidden & Arcanus is the Hephaestus Forge. You build a base out of darkstone blocks, transform it into the forge, and then use it for rituals. Everything below comes from the mod's in-game Ponder scenes, its JEI categories and the pack's recipe data.[5][6]
Building the Hephaestus Forge
The forge starts as a base structure that you build first and then transform. The Ponder scene lists these blocks for the base:[6]
- 9x Gilded Chiseled Polished Darkstone[6]
- 4x Chiseled Arcane Polished Darkstone[6]
- 45x Polished Darkstone[6]
- Build the base structure from the blocks above.[6]
- Place a Smithing Table in the center of the structure.[6]
- Keep the marked area clear, because the structure needs that space to transform into the forge.[6]
The pack has a crafting recipe for Arcane Polished Darkstone, which you'll want to look at when you're gathering materials for the arcane parts of the base.[5]

Arcane Polished Darkstone as crafted in this pack
Unverified How you make the Chiseled Arcane Polished Darkstone and the Gilded Chiseled Polished Darkstone is not covered by the available sources. Check JEI in game. This site does hold All the Mods 10's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
Pedestals and Obelisks
Once the forge is built, you can place Darkstone Pedestals in set spots around it. The pedestals hold the items for a ritual, so they work as the forge's input slots.[6]
Arcane Crystal Obelisks fit in those same spots. Instead of holding items, they passively generate Aureal. Because pedestals and obelisks share the same spaces, you'll need to decide how many spots go to ritual items and how many go to Aureal generation.[6]
Unverified How much Aureal an obelisk generates, how many pedestal spots the forge has, and what a ritual consumes are not stated in the available sources.
Aureal Bottles
The pack has a crafting recipe for the Aureal Bottle, and its ingredients come from the arcane crystal line of items.[5]
Unverified What the Aureal Bottle does, and whether it stores Aureal or supplies it to the forge, is not confirmed by the available sources.
Upgrading the Forge and Smithing
JEI has a category called Hephaestus Forge Upgrading, so the forge has an upgrade path of its own. The mod also adds a Smithing Template and a darkstone upgrade template whose base slot takes an armor piece, weapon or tool.[5][6]

Recipe id: forbidden_arcanus:apply_modifier_smithing_template
Unverified The requirements for each forge upgrade, the modifiers the smithing template can apply, and the role of the Reinforced Deorum Blacksmith Gavel are not explained in the available sources. Browse the Hephaestus Forge Upgrading category in JEI for the in-pack details. This site does hold All the Mods 10's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
Getting Darkstone
The forge base alone uses 45 Polished Darkstone, so you'll want a steady supply of darkstone. In this pack, All the Compressed has a decompression recipe that gives you Darkstone, and the pack has changed that recipe.[5][6]

Unverified The available sources don't cover automation, item or fluid handling, or power for the forge. It isn't confirmed whether pipes or hoppers can insert items into pedestals or whether rituals can be started automatically.
How do you progress through Forbidden and Arcanus ?
6 parts
Forbidden and Arcanus is all about performing rituals at the Hephaestus Forge to get stronger. In this pack, the quests take you from a few underground ores all the way to the end-game multiblocks used for the ATM Star. The chapter starts with "Forbidden \& Arcanus" quest, which asks you to grab an Arcane Crystal.[3][4]
Step 1: Mine the basics
- Arcane Crystal spawns from Y 14 down to Y -40 and is most common at Y -13. It is fairly common, but you will need a lot of it.[4]
- Darkstone appears deep underground near lava lakes, around Y -54. Every multiblock uses it for its base, so grab a ton.[4]
- Rune spawns from bedrock up to Y 2, including near Darkstone.[4]
- Stellarite Piece spawns between Y 42 and Y -44 but is very rare, and the ore explodes when you break it.[4]

Step 2: Dusts and Deorum
Smelt your Arcane Crystals to get Arcane Crystal Dust. That dust goes into Mundabitur Dust, which you use in lots of crafting and right-click onto structures to form multiblocks. The pack changed the Mundabitur Dust recipe, so use the version shown here rather than an older guide.[4][5]

Step 3: The Clibano and Obsidiansteel
The Clibano is a multiblock that works like a jumbo furnace. Its heart is the Clibano Core, surrounded by Polished Darkstone and Polished Darkstone Bricks.[4]

Recipe id: forbidden_arcanus:clibano_core
- Bottom layer: build a 3x3 area of Polished Darkstone Bricks with Polished Darkstone on the corners.[4]
- Middle layer: use only Polished Darkstone Bricks and the Clibano Core, and leave the middle block empty.[4]
- Top layer: build it the same as the bottom layer.[4]
- Right-click the structure with Mundabitur Dust to finish it.[4]
To make Obsidiansteel Ingot in the Clibano, you also need an Artisan Relic, which you can find in some village buildings. The quest notes that you also get Copper as a by-product. Obsidiansteel unlocks the Obsidian Skull, a helmet that protects you from fire and lava damage.[4]

Step 4: The Tier 1 Hephaestus Forge
Once you have Darkstone and Deorum, "Building the Forge" quest walks you through the build. Lay out Polished Darkstone, Arcane Polished Darkstone and Gilded Chiseled Polished Darkstone in the pattern shown in the quest. Put a Smithing Table on the inner Gilded Chiseled Polished Darkstone and hit it with Mundabitur Dust to create the Hephaestus Forge. To finish, place Darkstone Pedestal blocks on the 8 outer Gilded Chiseled Polished Darkstone blocks.[4]

Every ritual needs the Forge's four essences filled.[4]
- Aureal is the first and most important slot. You can deposit Aureal Bottle items, which you can find in structure chests or craft. You can also automate it with Arcane Crystal Obelisk blocks placed where the pedestals usually go.[4]
- Souls is the second slot and the smallest, needing only 10. A Soul or Corrupt Soul counts as 1, while an Enchanted Soul counts as the whole 10. The best way to get Souls is to hold right-click with a Soul Extractor on Soul Sand.[4]
- Blood is the third slot. You can kill mobs on or near the Forge, or deposit Test Tube items. To fill a Test Tube, hold it in your offhand while killing mobs.[4]
- Experience is the fourth slot. Xpetrified Orb items give the most, Bottles o' Enchanting give a little, and enchanted items get their enchantments scrapped into experience.[4]
Xpetrified Orbs come from a Black Hole. Throw Dark Matter and Corrupti Dust on the ground together to spawn one, then feed it experience. In this pack, Dark Matter comes from smelting an Edelwood Log, a recipe the pack added.[4][5]
Filled everything and the ritual still won't finish? You need a Gavel. Right-click the Forge with it to complete the ritual. It works like a pickaxe but has a limited number of uses for finishing rituals.[4]

What each Forge tier unlocks
- Tier 1: Smelter Prism, Quantum Catcher and Ferrognetic Mixture. The Smelter Prism also needs the Elementarium relic, and you need it for the ATM Star.[3][4]
- Tier 2: Terrastomp Prism is the only recipe that needs Tier 2. It lets tools mine a 3x3 area.[4]
- Tier 3: Eternal Stella, Sea Prism, Whirlwind Prism and Quantum Injector. Eternal Stella can make items stop needing durability.[3][4]
- Tier 4: Boss Catcher, an upgraded Quantum Catcher that can carry bosses, and Soul Binding Crystal, which needs a Divine Pact relic and gives items Soulbound. Corrupt Souls are also used in Tier 4 recipes.[4]
- Tier 5: the Automatic Souls quest unlocks after the Tier 5 Forge. The pack also adds a Modern Industrialization auto forge recipe that turns a Hephaestus Forge Tier 4 into a Hephaestus Forge Tier 5.[4][5]

Late game: automation and the ATM Star
Later on, the "Runic Crucible" quest quest has you build the Runic Crucible, a Modern Industrialization multiblock. It produces Liquid Souls and Liquid Aureal, and it can also craft Corrupt Souls, Enchanted Souls and Obsidiansteel.[4][5]
The pack adds auto forge recipes that use those liquids for items like the Prisms, Eternal Stella and Soul Binding Crystal. The Automatic Hephaestus Forge does not work without upgrades, either a Runic Attuned Arcane Crystal or a Modern Industrialization Turbo Upgrade.[4][5]

The finale is the "Runic Star Altar" quest, a 15x8x15 Modern Industrialization multiblock for crafting the ATM Star. It is built from Darkstone blocks, Arcane Crystal Obelisks, Rune Blocks, a Quantum Injector and a Magnetized Darkstone Pedestal. Use a Modern Industrialization Wrench on the altar block to get highlights showing you how to build it.[3]
How does Forbidden and Arcanus work with other mods?
4 parts
Forbidden and Arcanus is well tied into the rest of All the Mods 10. The pack adds or changes several recipes so that its wood, stone and prisms show up in other mods, from lumber processing and furniture all the way up to endgame crafting.[5]
Endgame crafting with All the Tweaks
Two of the pack's own endgame recipes need Forbidden and Arcanus items. Eternal Stella is one of the ingredients for the Oblivion Shard, alongside parts from several other mods. That means you'll want to push far enough into this mod to make one.[5]

Bibliocraft furniture
If you like decorating your magic base, Bibliocraft has seats, seat backs and display cases made from Aurum, Edelwood and Fungyss slabs. These come in wool colours such as black, blue and brown. For example, there's the Black Edelwood Display Case and the Blue Aurum Seat. The fancy and tall seat backs are upgrades made from the matching flat seat back. All of these recipes have been changed by the pack.[5]

Which All the Mods 10 quests use Forbidden and Arcanus ?
6 parts
Forbidden and Arcanus appears in three quest chapters in All the Mods 10 8.1. Its own Forbidden & Arcanus chapter walks you through the whole Hephaestus Forge progression. Chapter 3: The ATM Star and Chapter 4: Creative add a few big late-game quests on top of that.[3][4][7]
Getting started: the ores
Everything starts with "Forbidden \& Arcanus" quest in the ATM Star chapter, which asks for an Arcane Crystal. That quest unlocks four gathering quests in the mod's own chapter: "Arcane Crystals" quest, "Darkstone" quest, "Runes" quest and "Stellarite Pieces" quest.[3][4]
- Arcane Crystals spawn between Y 14 and -40 and are most common at Y -13. Mine plenty, because you will need a lot of them.[4]
- Darkstone sits deep underground near lava lakes, for example around Y -54. Every multiblock in the mod uses it as a base, so grab a ton.[4]
- Stellarite is very rare, and it explodes when you break it, so be careful.[4]
Building and running the Forge
- Complete "Arcane Crystal Dust" quest, which you get by smelting Arcane Crystals, and "Mundabitur Dust" quest. Together they unlock "Deorum" quest, the mod's foundational alloy. You will need dozens of Deorum Ingots.[4]
- With Darkstone and Deorum done, "Building the Forge" quest has you lay out the Forge pattern. You right-click the Smithing Table with Mundabitur Dust and then add 8 Darkstone Pedestals.[4]
- Fill the Forge's four resources. "Aureal" quest is the first slot. "Souls" quest is the second and only needs 10. "Blood" quest is the third and uses Test Tubes. "Experience" quest is the fourth.[4]
- "Finishing the Ritual" quest teaches you to right-click the Forge with a Gavel so the ritual actually completes.[4]
Side branches that feed the Forge
- Relics: "Elementarium" quest, "Artisan Relic" quest, "Crimson Stone" quest and "Divine Pact" quest are structure loot. Divine Pact is the hardest to find. It comes from Piglin Villages and Ancient Pyramids in The Other.[4]
- "Clibano" quest unlocks after Darkstone. Once you also have the Artisan Relic, it leads to "Obsidiansteel" quest and then "Obsidian Skull" quest.[4]
- "Corrupt Souls" quest leads to a grown Edelwood tree in a quest in "Forbidden \& Arcanus". That opens the Soul Extractor (a quest in "Forbidden \& Arcanus") and the Edelwood Bucket (a quest in "Forbidden \& Arcanus").[4]
- "Black Hole" quest needs Obsidiansteel and Edelwood. You feed experience to a Black Hole and get an Xpetrified Orb back.[4]
- "Arcane Crystal Obelisk" quest automates Aureal. "Spectral Eye Amulet" quest unlocks after Deorum.[4]
Forge tier rewards
- Tier 1: "Smelter Prism" quest, a quest in "Forbidden \& Arcanus" and a quest in "Forbidden \& Arcanus".[4]
- Tier 2: "Terrastomp Prism" quest is the only Tier 2 recipe. It gives tools 3x3 mining.[4]
- Tier 3: "Sea Prism" quest, a quest in "Forbidden \& Arcanus", "Eternal Stella" quest and "Quantum Injector" quest.[4]
- Tier 4: a quest in "Forbidden \& Arcanus" and "Soul Binding Crystal" quest. The Soul Binding Crystal also needs the Divine Pact.[4]
- Tier 5: "Automatic Souls" quest automates Souls using Just Dire Things machines.[4]
Late-game automation
"Runic Crucible" quest unlocks after Source Condensation. It builds the Runic Crucible, which makes Liquid Souls and Liquid Aureal. "Upgrades" quest warns that the Automatic Hephaestus Forge does not work without upgrades. A Runic Attuned Arcane Crystal adds 512 EU/t of capacity and lets you skip Modern Industrialization progression.[4]
Chapter 4: Creative has its own "Runic Crucible" quest, which walks you through turning Liquid Souls into Obsidiansteel. It also has "Automatic Hepheastus Forge" quest, which asks for a Hephaestus Forge Tier 5, a Quantum Injector, Arcane Crystal Obelisks and plenty of Darkstone blocks.[7]
The ATM Star chapter
After the entry quest, "Smelter Prism" quest and "Eternal Stella" quest unlock. The Smelter Prism needs only a Tier 1 Forge, while the Eternal Stella needs a Tier 3 Forge. "Runic Star Altar" quest has you build a 15x8x15 altar from Forbidden and Arcanus blocks to craft the ATM Star.[3]
Which Forbidden and Arcanus config options matter?
Unverified We couldn't confirm any config options or values for Forbidden and Arcanus in All the Mods 10 8.1. The pack's config files for this mod weren't available, so we can't tell you which settings exist, what they're set to, or whether the pack changed anything from the mod's defaults.
