What is Industrial Foregoing?

2 parts

Industrial Foregoing is a tech mod packed with machines that let you automate most of Minecraft's functions. It covers mob and animal farming, plant farming, power generation, item and fluid transport, enchantment sorting and creation, and a suite of Infinity tools.[1][2]

All the Mods 10 8.1 ships Industrial Foregoing version 1.21-3.6.39, and the mod has been in the pack since version 2.25 or earlier. If you want hands-off farms, mob processing or automated enchanting, this is a mod worth learning.[1][3]

Where it fits in your progression

The pack has its own quest chapter for the mod, starting with "Industrial Foregoing" quest. Plastic is the main resource in Industrial Foregoing, so your early game is all about getting a steady supply of it.[2][4]

  1. Craft a Pity Machine Frame to kick off the questline.[2]
  2. Place a Fluid Extractor in front of a log to pull out latex. Power is optional but makes it faster, and the quest recommends Acacia or Mangrove logs.[2][5]
  3. Feed the latex into a Latex Processing Unit, which uses 750 mB of Latex and 500 mB of Water to make 1 Dry Rubber.[2][6]
  4. Smelt the Dry Rubber into Plastic, which unlocks most of the mod's machines.[2]
  5. Build a Dissolution Chamber, the machine you'll use to craft the more advanced machines.[2]

For early power, the Pitiful Generator burns fuels like coal. It's very inefficient and keeps burning fuel even when its buffer is full.[2][7]

The ATM Star path

Industrial Foregoing shows up in Chapter 3: The ATM Star. The "Industrial Foregoing" quest quest asks for Dry Rubber. That quest leads to "Explosive Mycelial Generator" quest, a generator you'll want for a Pulsating Black Hole, and "Wither Builder" quest.[8]

The Wither Builder is expensive. It needs a Supreme Machine Frame, which in turn needs Ether Gas. You get Ether Gas by running a Laser Drill with a Fluid Laser Base placed right on top of a Wither.[8][9]

Tip: Withers like to wander off and kill things, so use a Stasis Chamber to freeze them while you milk them for Ether Gas.[8][10]

How do you get started with Industrial Foregoing?

4 parts

Industrial Foregoing is a tech mod packed with machines for all sorts of jobs, and in All the Mods 10 its questline starts with one simple goal: craft a Pity Machine Frame. That's the first task of "Industrial Foregoing" quest, and it unlocks everything else in the early game.[2]

Why does the frame matter so much? In this pack, a lot of the first machines you'll want use a Pity Machine Frame and plastic in their crafting recipes. That includes the Dissolution Chamber, the Bioreactor, the Block Breaker and the animal machines.[11]

Your first-steps checklist

  1. Craft a Pity Machine Frame to start the chapter.[2]
  2. Build a Fluid Extractor and place it facing a log. It pulls Latex out of the wood, first stripping the log and then using it up completely. Power is optional, but it makes the extractor run faster.[2][5]
  3. Make a Pitiful Generator for your first power. It burns fuels like Coal for a small amount of FE.[2][7]
  4. Collect a Latex Bucket to finish the "Latex" quest quest.[2]
  5. Build a Latex Processing Unit. It uses 750 mB of Latex and 500 mB of Water to make 1 Dry Rubber.[2][6]
  6. Smelt your Dry Rubber to turn it into Plastic, the main resource of the mod.[2]
  7. Use your plastic to craft a Dissolution Chamber, which you need for the more advanced machines.[2]
Tip: Not all logs are equal. The pack's quest recommends Acacia or Mangrove as the best logs for the Fluid Extractor. Check JEI to see how much Latex each log gives, and place several extractors on the same log to collect it faster.[2][5]
Watch out: Keep your Pitiful Generator for the very start only. It is so inefficient that it keeps burning fuel even when its energy buffer is already full.[7]

Plastic is everything

The mod's own guide says getting plastic is one of the most important things in Industrial Foregoing, so it's worth setting up a steady Latex line early. The Blocks quest points out that the Block Placer and Block Breaker are especially useful when you automate Latex.[2][4]

This pack also adds a shortcut: you can craft Dry Rubber from Rubber Essence with a recipe the pack added itself.[11]

Moving items and fluids

Early on, you'll also want the Item Transporter and the Fluid Transporter from the "Item \& Fluid Transport" quest quest. They move items or fluids between inventories that are 1 block away. You need one transporter on the extraction side and another on the insertion side, and you right-click the middle area to switch modes.[2][12][13]

Once you have plastic, Conveyor Belts are another handy option. They carry items, entities and even fluids, and in this pack their recipe has been changed.[2][11]

The Dissolution Chamber

The quest calls it the mod's crafting table, and it's a fair nickname. The Dissolution Chamber combines up to 8 items and/or 1 fluid in shapeless recipes, so the ingredients can go in any slot. The pack has changed its crafting recipe, so check the version below.[2][11][14]

Tip: Don't turn every drop of Latex into rubber. Latex is also the fluid ingredient in many Dissolution Chamber recipes in this pack, including the Range, Speed, Efficiency and Processing addons.[2][11]

After a quest in "Industrial Foregoing", your next milestone is the "Simple Machine Frame" quest quest. That's where the second tier of machines begins.[2]

How does Industrial Foregoing work?

7 parts

Industrial Foregoing is built to automate most of Minecraft's functions. It covers mob and animal farming, plant farming, power generation, item and fluid transport, enchanting and a lot more. Almost every machine recipe in this pack uses plastic, and the mod's own manual calls getting plastic one of the most important things to master.[1][4][11]

The rubber starting line

Your first job is latex. Place a Fluid Extractor in front of a log and it pulls latex out of the wood. You can point several extractors at the same log at once. The log is used up in stages: it first turns into its stripped variant, and once that is used up it disappears. Different logs give different amounts of latex, so check JEI for the rates. Power is optional, but supplying it makes the extractor work faster.[1][5]

Next, the Latex Processing Unit takes 750mb of Latex and 500mb of Water, plus power, and turns them into rubber. This is how the mod expects you to start your progression.[1][6]

Power

The Biofuel Generator burns Biofuel to make 160RF/t. It is efficient, so it stops using fuel when its internal buffer is full. The mod's basic generator works differently: it burns fuels like coal and keeps consuming fuel even when its buffer is full.[7][15]

To make Biofuel, give a Bioreactor water plus items like seeds, saplings, dyes and even skulls. JEI has a list of the items it accepts. Variety is the trick. With only 1 item type, each item makes 80mb. With 4 different items, each one makes 110mb, for 440mb in total. Biofuel can also power Infinity Tools.[16][17][18]

For big power, the Mycelial Reactor detects the mod's mycelial generators and produces massive amounts of FE. It only does this while one of each generator type is running at the same time. JEI lists types such as the Crimed, Culinary, Death, Ender, Frosty, Magma, Netherstar, Potion, Rocket and Slimey Mycelial Generators, among others.[18][19]

Addons: tuning your machines

  • Range: makes a machine's working area bigger by 1 per tier. Not every machine accepts it, so look for the Accepts Range Addon line and the base area in the tooltip.[18][20]
  • Speed: makes the progress bar move further each tick. Tier 1 adds +1 and Tier 2 adds +2.[20]
  • Efficiency: cuts the ticks needed per operation. Tier 1 gives -10% and Tier 2 gives -20%.[20]
  • Processing: adds extra operations each time a machine finishes. Tier 1 adds +1 operation and Tier 2 adds +2 operations.[20]

Some machines can also use fluid from a tank placed right on top of them. For example, the Enchantment Applicator can take Essence from a tank above it when a job costs too much.[18][21]

What All the Mods 10 changes

This pack changes several agriculture and husbandry machine settings from the mod defaults. The timers are in ticks, and there are 20 ticks per second.[22]

Moving items, fluids and mobs

Item Transporters and Fluid Transporters move things between inventories that are 1 block apart. You need one transporter on the extraction side and one on the insertion side, and several transporter types can share one block. Right-click the middle area to switch modes. You can set blacklist or whitelist filters in the GUI, and on an inserting transporter you can use regulator mode to limit how much an inventory can hold. To upgrade one, right-click a Speed Addon (for speed) or an Efficiency Addon (for bigger transfers) into its outer ring. Sneak + right-click removes upgrades or the transporter itself. The World Transporter picks items up into inventories or drops them into the world.[12][13][23]

The Conveyor Belt carries items, entities and fluids. Items and entities can go up and down on it, but fluids only move horizontally. Glowstone makes a conveyor move items and entities very fast. Plastic stops items on it from being picked up. You can recolour a conveyor by right-clicking it with a dye.[24]

The Mob Imprisonment Tool stores an entity when you right-click it and releases the entity when you right-click the ground. Conveyor upgrades use a filled one as an entity filter, and the Mob Duplicator uses one to know what to spawn.[25][26][27]

Resource loops

The Plant Gatherer chops trees and harvests crops. Once it starts on a tree, it keeps going through every connected log and leaf. It breaks crops even when they could be harvested with a right-click, but if you give it small amounts of Ether Gas it replants them automatically. Each operation also makes a little Sludge, which the Sludge Refiner turns into something useful at 1,000RF/t.[28][29][30]

The Sewer collects Sewage from animals and turns experience into Essence. Send the Sewage to a Sewage Composter to make Fertilizer. Fertilizer works like bonemeal and can go into the Plant Fertilizer.[31][32][33][34]

Watch out: The Plant Fertilizer keeps fertilizing the same plant until that plant can't take any more bonemeal. Plants that always accept bonemeal, like Sunflowers, or plants that never finish growing can leave it stuck.[34]

The Mob Crusher kills mobs as if a player did it, making loot-table drops and Essence. You can switch it to a mode where kills make no Essence but have a random chance to apply Looting at any level. The Mob Slaughter Factory turns mobs into Liquid Meat and Pink Slime with no drops or experience, and passive mobs give more Pink Slime. Mechanical Dirt spawns mobs fast for 1,000RF and 20mb of Liquid Meat per operation. It still needs normal spawn conditions, including a light level of 7 or lower, and it shares power and meat with connected blocks.[18][35][36][37]

Essence also drives the enchanting machines. The Enchantment Extractor either moves enchantments onto books or turns them into Essence without needing books. The Enchantment Applicator works like an anvil but uses Essence instead of experience. The Enchantment Factory uses large amounts of Essence to enchant an item at level 30. The Enchantment Sorter separates enchanted items from unenchanted ones.[18][21][38][39][40]

Crafting, laser mining and ore processing

The Dissolution Chamber crafts with up to 8 items and/or 1 fluid, and it can output items, fluids or both. All its recipes are shapeless. When a recipe is present, it locks its slots so no extra items get inserted.[14]

The Laser Drill uses power to charge the first Ore Laser Base or Fluid Laser Base it finds in its working area. The Ore Laser Base picks ores by weight, based on its biome and the depth you set, and laser lenses raise an ore's weight. The Fluid Laser Base needs a catalyst that is not consumed, a specific biome and depth, and for some fluids an entity underneath. Ether Gas, for example, comes from placing it right on top of a Wither. The Wither Builder can build the wither structure for you if you give it power, 3 Wither Skulls and 4 soul sand. Check JEI for the exact values.[9][41][42][43][44]

For ore processing, the Washing Factory uses liquid meat and an ore to make raw ore meat. The Fermentation Station seals that meat when it reaches the level you set (half-full or 1 bucket) and ferments it. Finally, the Fluid Sieving Machine uses sand to turn the fermented meat into dust of the original ore.[18][45][46][47]

How do you progress through Industrial Foregoing?

4 parts

Industrial Foregoing progresses through machine frames. Each frame tier unlocks a new batch of machines, and the pack's quest chapter follows that ladder. The chapter starts at "Industrial Foregoing" quest, marked Tier 1, where you craft a Pity Machine Frame. It then moves through the Simple Machine Frame (Tier 2) and the Advanced Machine Frame (Tier 3).[2]

Watch out: This pack has changed a lot of Industrial Foregoing's recipes, including the machines, the machine frames and the addons. Don't craft from memory of another pack. Check the recipe blocks on this page or JEI for the in-pack versions.[11]

Tier 1: Pity frame, rubber and plastic

Plastic is the main resource of the whole mod, so your first goal is a plastic supply. Here's the quest path to it:[2][4]

  1. Craft a Pity Machine Frame to complete "Industrial Foregoing" quest.[2]
  2. Build a Fluid Extractor and place it in front of logs to pull Latex out of them. It works without power but runs faster with it. The quest recommends Acacia or Mangrove logs, and JEI shows the rates for each log.[2][5]
  3. Feed the Latex into a Latex Processing Unit. It uses 750 mB of Latex and 500 mB of Water to make 1 Dry Rubber.[2][6]
  4. Smelt the Dry Rubber into Plastic, which completes the early quest line.[2]

For early power, the quests point you to the Pitiful Generator. It burns fuels like Coal for a small amount of FE. It's very inefficient and keeps burning fuel even when its buffer is full.[2][7]

The pack also adds a shortcut for Dry Rubber: a recipe that turns Mystical Agriculture rubber essence into Dry Rubber. Chapter 3 of the main questline, The ATM Star, also asks for Dry Rubber in its "Industrial Foregoing" quest quest, so you'll want rubber going early either way.[8][11]

With Plastic you can build a wide spread of Pity-frame machines. These include conveyors, the animal machines, the plant machines, the Block Placer and Block Breaker, Bio Power, the Sewer and the Mob Slaughter Factory. The most important one is the Dissolution Chamber, which acts as the mod's crafting table. It crafts with up to 8 items and/or 1 fluid, and every recipe is shapeless.[2][11][14]

The Simple frame unlocks the Hydroponic Bed, Mob Detector, Marine Fisher and Fermentation Station. It also unlocks the first Mycelial Generators: Frosty, Furnace, Culinary and Pink. The Plant Fertilizer quest needs both this frame and the "Sewer" quest quest.[2]

The addons quest also opens after the Dissolution Chamber. Addons are Dissolution Chamber crafts that make your machines better.[2][11]

  • Speed addons make the progress bar advance faster each tick: +1 at Tier 1 and +2 at Tier 2.[20]
  • Efficiency addons cut the ticks an operation needs: -10% at Tier 1 and -20% at Tier 2.[20]
  • Processing addons add operations each time a machine finishes: +1 at Tier 1 and +2 at Tier 2.[20]
  • Range addons add 1 to the working area per tier, on machines that accept them.[20]

Each Tier 2 Speed, Efficiency and Processing addon has two recipes. One builds it from scratch, and the other upgrades the Tier 1 addon you already have.[11]

It also opens the ore processing line, which starts at the Washing Factory and finishes at the Fluid Sieving Machine. More Mycelial Generators unlock here too.[2]

Endgame: Ether Gas, Supreme frame and Infinity Tools

Ether Gas comes from a Fluid Laser Base placed right on top of a Wither. The Wither Builder can build the Wither structure for you when given power, Wither Skulls and soul sand. Ether Gas is needed for the Supreme Machine Frame, which in turn is needed for the Mycelial Reactor. The reactor makes massive FE, but only while one of every Mycelial Generator is running at the same time.[9][11][19][44]

Unverified The quest tier label and exact quest requirements for the Supreme Machine Frame and Ether Gas quests were cut off in the available quest data, so their position in the chapter isn't confirmed here.

How does Industrial Foregoing work with other mods?

4 parts

Industrial Foregoing isn't an island in All the Mods 10. The pack changes or adds a lot of recipes that tie it to other mods. Your Laser Drill pulls resources from All the Ores, Ad Astra, PneumaticCraft and Modern Industrialization, your Dissolution Chamber makes parts for other mods, and several endgame crafts need IF machines.[11]

Laser Drill outputs from other mods

The pack changed the Laser Drill ore and fluid recipes so they give you other mods' resources. The lens colour decides what you get, so here's what each lens targets in this pack.[11]

Dissolution Chamber crafts for other mods

The pack uses the Dissolution Chamber for several cross-mod crafts. It turns your tier 2 addons into tier 3 speed, efficiency and processing addons from the addon expansion.[11]

Which All the Mods 10 quests use Industrial Foregoing?

5 parts

Industrial Foregoing has its own full quest chapter, and it follows the mod's machine frame tiers. It all kicks off with "Industrial Foregoing" quest (Tier 1), which only asks you to craft a Pity Machine Frame. The mod also appears in the ATM Star chapter and the Apothic Spawners chapter.[2][8][48]

Tier 1: Rubber and Plastic

  1. Right after the Pity frame, three quests open up. a quest in "Industrial Foregoing" asks for the Fluid Extractor, which pulls Latex from logs, and the quest says Acacia or Mangrove logs work best. a quest in "Industrial Foregoing" asks for the Pitiful Generator, which makes a small amount of FE from fuels like Coal. "Item \& Fluid Transport" quest asks for both transporter types.[2]
  2. Fill a Latex Bucket for "Latex" quest, then build the Latex Processing Unit for a quest in "Industrial Foregoing". The unit uses 750 mB of Latex and 500 mB of Water to make 1 Dry Rubber.[2]
  3. Grab Dry Rubber for a quest in "Industrial Foregoing", then smelt it into Plastic for a quest in "Industrial Foregoing".[2]

The Plastic quest is the big hub of the chapter. It unlocks the Dissolution Chamber (a quest in "Industrial Foregoing"), the Mob Slaughter Factory (a quest in "Industrial Foregoing"), the Conveyor Belt (a quest in "Industrial Foregoing") and the Mob Imprisonment Tool (a quest in "Industrial Foregoing"). It also opens "Fluids" quest, "Blocks" quest, "Animals" quest, "Plants" quest, "Bio Power" quest, "Sewer" quest and the Sludge Refiner quest a quest in "Industrial Foregoing".[2]

There are a few follow-ups too. The Mob Slaughter Factory leads to "Pink Slime \& Liquid Meat" quest and the Meat Feeder quest a quest in "Industrial Foregoing". The Conveyor leads to "Conveyor Insertion \& Extraction" quest and "Other Conveyor Upgrades" quest.[2]

Tip: Get your Mob Slaughter Factory running early. You need the Pink Slime and Liquid Meat quest as well as the Simple Machine Frame before you can unlock the Advanced Machine Frame.[2]

Tier 2: Simple Machine Frame

The Dissolution Chamber unlocks "Simple Machine Frame" quest (Tier 2). It also unlocks the addon quest a quest in "Industrial Foregoing", which accepts any range, speed, efficiency or processing addon. The Simple frame then opens several quests:[2]

Tier 3: Advanced Machine Frame

"Advanced Machine Frame" quest (Tier 3) is where most of the mod opens up. It unlocks the "Laser Drill" quest quest, the Purple Laser Lens quest a quest in "Industrial Foregoing" and four enchanting machines: the Factory, Applicator, Sorter and Extractor. It also unlocks the Potion Brewer, Mob Duplicator, Stasis Chamber and Mob Crusher, plus the Material StoneWork Factory, which also needs the Pink Slime quest. You'll get another batch of Mycelial Generator quests here too: Explosive, Slimey, Crimed, Potion, Rocket, Death, Disenchantment, Ender and Magma.[2]

The Pink Slime and Liquid Meat quest has its own branch. It leads to the Pink Slime Ingot, Pink Slime and Infinity Charger quests. The Infinity Charger quest then unlocks "Infinity Tools" quest.[2]

The chapter also includes an ore processing line in three steps:[2]

  1. Ore Processing Step 1 is the Washing Factory (a quest in "Industrial Foregoing"). It unlocks after the Pink Slime Ingot quest and the Advanced frame, and uses Liquid Meat to turn ore into Raw Ore Meat.[2]
  2. Ore Processing Step 2 is the Fermentation Station, which turns Raw Ore Meat into Fermented Ore Meat. Its modes range from 2x output in 5 seconds up to 5x output in 300 seconds, and the top mode uses Ether Gas.[2]
  3. Ore Processing Step 3 is the Fluid Sieving Machine (a quest in "Industrial Foregoing"). It uses sand to filter Fermented Ore Meat into dust.[2]

Tier 4: Supreme Machine Frame

To reach "Ether Gas" quest, you first need both the Laser Drill and Purple Laser Lens quests. Ether Gas then unlocks "Supreme Machine Frame" quest (Tier 4). From there you can go for the Mycelial Reactor (a quest in "Industrial Foregoing") and the Meatallurgic, Halitosis and Netherstar generators. The Supreme frame also opens the Wither Builder (a quest in "Industrial Foregoing") and "Industrial Foregoing &#27AEB9Souls" quest, which uses a Blue Laser Lens to pull Souls from a Warden.[2]

Other chapters

In Chapter 3: The ATM Star, "Industrial Foregoing" quest asks for Dry Rubber. It then branches into "Explosive Mycelial Generator" quest, which is used for a Pulsating Black Hole, and "Wither Builder" quest. The Wither Builder is part of the Wither's Compass for the ATM Star, so the Supreme frame path is worth finishing.[2][8]

The Apothic Spawners chapter also has a quest in "Apothic Spawners", which is subtitled Industrial Foregoing's Spawner.[48]

Unverified The task for the Apothic Spawners quest could not be confirmed. The same goes for a quest titled Industrial Foregoing: Mycelial Reactor ("Industrial Foregoing: Mycelial Reactor" quest), whose chapter and requirements are also unknown.

Which Industrial Foregoing config options matter?

5 parts

Industrial Foregoing stores its machine settings in several config files, and All the Mods 10 changes quite a few of them. These are the settings most likely to affect how you play. Each default below is the one listed in the config file's own comments, so you can see exactly what the pack changed.[22][49][50][51][52]

Power generation

Tip: Both generators produce less per tick than their listed defaults in this pack. Plan on building more of them than an older guide or video might suggest.[50]

Getting started with latex

Mob and animal machines

Plant farming

  • The Plant Gatherer and Plant Sower both run faster here, with a 40-tick cooldown instead of the default 100.[22]
  • Plant Fertilizer: its cooldown is 50 ticks (default 100), but it costs 1,000 FE per operation (default 400 FE).[22]

Other notable settings

What changed in Industrial Foregoing between versions?

1 part

All the Mods 10 8.1 ships Industrial Foregoing version 1.21-3.6.39. The mod has been in the pack since All the Mods 10 2.25 or earlier, so it has been around for most of the pack's life.[3]

Since then the pack has updated the mod many times, taking it from 1.21-3.6.22 all the way up to 1.21-3.6.39.[53][54]

Unverified The pack changelogs only record version numbers. They don't say what changed in each Industrial Foregoing release, such as bug fixes, new machines or balance changes, and the mod's own changelogs weren't available. Check the mod's release notes before assuming any particular update changed how a machine works.
