All the Mods 10 8.3 ships version 19.2.18 · First seen in 0.32
Applied Energistics 2 is a mod in All the Mods 10 8.3, where it is version 19.2.18. AE2: A popular automation and storage mod (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)
Stuck? Why it might not be working
- AE2 autocrafting: the job sits on Scheduled and never craftsScheduled means patterns the CPU has queued but not yet pushed to a machine; Crafting means outputs already pushed and still awaited. A job frozen on Scheduled is a push that keeps failing, or an output that never came back, and AE2 shows no message for either. It retries forever, so waiting will not fix it unless the cause was a power or channel dip that has since come back.Written for other versions than All the Mods 10 8.3 ships. What is Applied Energistics 2?
3 parts
Applied Energistics 2 is the storage and logistics backbone of a modded base. Instead of a room full of chests, you build a compact ME Network that stores your items digitally, lets you search everything from a terminal, and automates crafting across the rest of the pack. This pack ships version 19.2.17.[1][2][3]
The mod's name is pronounced "Emm-Eee" and stands for Matter Energy. Items live inside Storage Cells, which come in five tiers of increasing capacity, and those cells go into an ME Drive or an ME Chest rather than being used directly.[4]
What you get out of it
- Network-based digital storage, so huge amounts of stuff fit into very little space with multiple access points.[1][4]
- Autocrafting: encode patterns and ask the system to craft a whole chain of prerequisites with one click, or keep set quantities in stock automatically. It handles fluids too, and with the right addons other material types like Mekanism gasses.[2][5]
- A channel system that limits how many devices a cable can serve, which turns network layout into an actual planning puzzle.[1]
- Spatial Storage, which captures an entire region of the world, blocks and entities included, into a cell for later release.[1]
Where it fits in the pack
AE2 is a mid-game goal that pays off for the entire rest of your playthrough, and it's meant to work alongside other mods rather than replace them. You start by hunting a meteorite for certus quartz and the Mysterious Cube that holds all four inscriber presses, then set up growth accelerators, make processors in the Inscriber, and finally assemble a basic drive-and-terminal system.[2][4][6]
The pack's own quest chapter walks you through that same path: "First Things First" quest for the Charger and inscriber, "Meteorite hunting" quest with the Meteorite Compass, then "Certus Quartz" quest, "Fluix" quest and "Processors" quest before you branch out into "Spatial IO" quest.[6]
The ATM Star path
AE2 sits directly on the ATM Star route in Chapter 3. "Applied Energistics" quest asks for a Certus Quartz Crystal to get you started, and it then branches into two Star ingredients: a quest in "Chapter 3: The ATM Star" for the ME Quantum Ring, and "Singularity" quest for the Singularity.[7]
How do you get started with Applied Energistics 2?
7 parts
Applied Energistics 2 is the storage mod: it turns your items into digital data held in cells on a network, then gives you terminals, autocrafting and more on top of that. The pack's quest book walks you through it, and this section follows the same order so you can tick quests off as you go.[1][6]
Step one: Charger and Inscriber
Your first two machines are the Charger and the Inscriber, which is exactly what "First Things First" quest asks for. The Charger turns Certus Quartz Crystal into Charged Certus Quartz Crystal and can charge any item that stores power, while the Inscriber makes dusts and, more importantly, the printed circuits and processors. Both accept RF/FE directly, so you can plug them into whatever power you already have.[6]

Step two: go meteorite hunting
Meteorites are where AE2 really starts. They are buried underground, usually near the surface, and carry Sky Stone plus a Mysterious Cube in the middle that holds all four Inscriber presses. Craft a Meteorite Compass in the Charger and it points you at the nearest cube, which is the whole of "Meteorite hunting" quest.[6][9]
Made in the Charger, not a crafting table.
- Mine into the centre of the meteorite and break the Mysterious Cube to get all four presses.[9]
- Collect the certus quartz clusters and certus quartz blocks; a fully grown cluster drops four Certus Quartz Crystal, and Fortune increases that.[9]
- Take a couple of budding certus blocks home if you can, but note that without Silk Touch they drop one tier lower.[9]
Step three: keep the certus coming
Buds grow painfully slowly on their own, so the guide's advice is to build a few Growth Accelerators as your first priority and place them next to your budding blocks. Powered accelerators massively speed up adjacent budding quartz. Budding blocks can also be repaired, or new ones created, by throwing a budding block or a plain certus quartz block into water with one or more charged certus.[8][9]

You will want Certus Quartz Dust too, since "Certus Quartz" quest wants both. The Inscriber grinds crystals into dust, and this pack also adds an Actually Additions crushing recipe for anything in the certus quartz tag if you already have a crusher running.[6][10]
Inscriber (ae2)

Step four: Fluix
Fluix is the backbone of almost every AE2 device and all the cabling, so plan to mass produce it. You make it in world, by throwing the ingredients into a pool of water, then turn crystals into Fluix Dust in the Inscriber. That pair is "Fluix" quest.[6]
In-world: toss the items into water.
Step five: processors
With the presses in hand, the Inscriber makes the three processors that go into nearly every ME device. Make a few of each before you start building, since "Processors" quest wants one of each. The Inscriber is sided like a furnace: top and bottom slots take inserts from above and below, the centre slot from the sides or back, and results pull out of the sides or back.[6][9]
Step six: power the network
The network itself runs on AE, not RF. The Energy Acceptor converts RF/FE into AE at 2 RF to 1 AE and can sit anywhere on the network, which is what a quest in "Applied Energistics 2" is after.[6]

Step seven: your first storage
Storage cells need a home. An ME Chest holds a single cell and has its own terminal screen on top; an ME Drive holds up to ten assorted cells in one block on a single channel but has no screen, so it needs a terminal elsewhere on the network. The Drive is what you actually want long term, so see "The Storage" quest and "Terminals" quest.[6]

For the cells themselves, follow "Creating your first Storage Cell" quest and start with 4k. Every tier holds 63 types regardless of size, so rushing straight to a 256k ME Storage Component costs far more resources without giving you any extra types. A 4k cell gives you 4,096 bytes, a good mix of capacity and types to begin with.[4][11]
How does Applied Energistics 2 work?
9 parts
An ME network is a group of devices linked by anything that can pass channels: cables, or full-block machines and devices like a Charger, ME Interface or ME Drive. Technically, a single cable already counts as a network. The important part is that for devices with a network function, the physical position of the device does not matter at all. An interface pushing to network storage, a level emitter reading storage, a drive being storage: all that matters is which network they're attached to.[12][13]
Two things trip people up here. A Quartz Fiber shares energy between networks without making a network connection, so blocks either side of it stay separate. A Quantum Network Bridge does the opposite: it acts like a wireless dense cable, so both ends are the same network. Cable colour never affects connections either, beyond the fact that differently coloured cables won't connect to each other, and every colour connects to fluix (uncoloured) cable. If you want to check what's actually on a network, right-click it with a Network Tool and it'll list every component.[12][13]
Channels
Channels are AE2's device budget. Think of them like USB cables: devices that use networked storage or other network services each pull a channel, and most machines, full-block devices and standard cables carry only 8. Dense cables carry up to 32, and the only other things that move 32 are ME P2P Tunnels and the Quantum Network Bridge. Each channel a device claims is one fewer available further down the line. Level Emitters are the notable exception that don't need one.[14][15][16][17]
In All the Mods 10, general.channels is set to DEFAULT, so you get the standard channel capacities described above rather than the infinite or multiplied modes AE2 can also run in.[15][18]
Without an ME Controller a network is Ad-Hoc, and can run up to 8 channel-using devices. Exceed that and every channel-using device on the network shuts down; you either remove devices or add a controller. On an Ad-Hoc network each device uses 1 channel network-wide, and smart cables show the network-wide channel count instead of the count flowing through that particular cable.[14][15]
Once you have a controller, channels route in three steps: shortest path through adjacent machines to the nearest normal cable (glass, covered or smart), then shortest path through normal cable to the nearest dense cable, then shortest path through dense cable to the controller. If a shortest path is already full, some devices simply don't get a channel, even when there's spare capacity elsewhere. That's why builds fail with cables that look half empty.[14][15]
Channels aren't free: they consume 1/128 AE/t per node they traverse. For a network with 8 devices and over 96 nodes, adding an ME Controller can actually lower your power use, because it changes how channels get allocated.[14][15]
Energy
Your network shares one pool of energy that devices pull from directly, topped up by Vibration Chambers, Energy Acceptors and ME Controllers. Because it's a single shared pool, there are no transfer rate limits: devices can draw arbitrarily high amounts and acceptors can take in energy at functionally unlimited speed, bounded only by your storage. Right-click anywhere on the network with a Network Tool, or on the controller, to see the energy stats.[19][20]
AE2 doesn't use Forge Energy internally; it converts it one-way into its own AE unit at the pack's ratio of 2 FE = 1 AE, set by powerRatios.forgeEnergy. Energy Acceptors and controller faces do the converting, though controller faces are better spent on channels. A Crystal Resonance Generator passively makes 20 AE per tick in this pack, per powerRatios.crystalResonanceGeneratorRate, and a Vibration Chamber produces 5 AE per fuel burn tick, ramping between 4 and 40 AE/t depending on how much of its output is being consumed. Still, AE2 expects you to power it from a proper tech mod.[18][19][20]
Storage numbers to plan around: the built-in buffer is 25 AE per cable, machine or part, matching the pack's powerRatios.gridEnergyStoragePerNode. An ME Controller holds 8,000 AE internally, an Energy Cell holds 200,000 AE and is usually enough on its own, and a Dense Energy Cell holds 1,600,000 AE for running off stored power or absorbing the huge instantaneous draw of spatial storage.[18][19][20]
Import, export and network storage
Network storage is wherever your network keeps its contents, usually storage cells in drives or whatever inventory an ME Storage Bus points at. Almost every device relates to it somehow.[21][22]
- Import buses push things into network storage from the inventory they face.[21][22]
- Export buses pull things from network storage into the inventory they face.[21][22]
- Interfaces both pull from and push to network storage.[21][22]
- Terminals push and pull when you insert or take items, or refill crafting slots.[21][22]
- Storage buses don't really push or pull themselves; they expose the connected inventory as network storage, so other devices push to and pull from them.[21][22]
Storage priority controls where things land. Click the wrench in the top-right of the relevant GUI to set it. Items entering the network head for the highest priority storage first; on a tie, a storage that already contains the item wins, and whitelisted cells count as already containing it within the same priority group. Extraction works the other way, pulling from the lowest priority storage first. Over time that fills your high-priority storage and drains the low-priority stuff.[21][22]
Several of these devices run on tick rates the pack leaves at AE2's values: import buses cycle between 5 and 40 ticks, export buses and storage buses between 5 and 60, and interfaces between 5 and 120.[18]
Bytes and types
Storage cells are limited by two things: bytes (how much stuff) and types (how many distinct entries). Every item costs one bit, so 8 items make a byte and a stack of 64 costs 8 bytes no matter how it stacks outside the network; fluid cells store 8 buckets per byte. Each type also costs a chunk of bytes upfront, and that upfront cost varies with the cell size.[11][23]
Every item cell tier holds 63 types, from the 1k cell's 1,024 bytes up to the 256k cell's 262,144 bytes. Because types cost bytes upfront, a cell using 1 type holds twice what the same cell holds with all 63 types in use: a 256k cell manages 2,080,768 items with one type but 1,064,960 with 63. A full ME Drive bay is 630 types, which goes a long way unless you're storing damaged tools.[11][23]
Autocrafting
An autocrafting setup is three things: something that sends the request, a crafting CPU, and an ME Pattern Provider. You request a craft from a terminal (use your pick-block key to request a craft of something you already have in stock), or an export bus or interface with a Crafting Card requests one automatically. The system calculates the ingredients and prerequisite steps and stores them in the chosen CPU, then the pattern provider holding the relevant pattern pushes ingredients to any adjacent inventory.[5][24]
For a crafting-table recipe that adjacent inventory is a Molecular Assembler; for a processing recipe it's whatever machine or contraption you've built. The result then has to come back, via import bus, interface, or by being pushed back into a pattern provider. An "item entering system" event must actually happen, so piping the output into a chest with a storage bus on it does not count. Prerequisite results are held in the CPU and consumed by the later steps.[5][24]
Crafting, smithing and stonecutting patterns all behave the same way and can share one provider-and-assembler setup. Processing patterns are the flexible ones: they only promise that if the provider pushes these ingredients out, the system will receive this result eventually. The system doesn't care what happens in between, or whether the ingredients relate to the result at all. Multiple providers with identical patterns work in parallel, and you can encode a pattern as 8 in, 8 out so the provider batches 8 at a time instead of one.[5][24]
There's an even looser "pattern": a level emitter with a crafting card, set to emit redstone to craft something. It defines no ingredients at all, just "emit redstone and the item will show up". That's how you gate infinite farms that need no inputs.[5][24]
In this pack, craftingCPU.craftingCalculationTimePerTick is 5, and crafting.disassemblyCrafting is enabled, so you can shift-click with crafting units in hand to disassemble them.[18]
Subnetworks and cable subparts
A subnetwork is just a separate network doing a small job in support of your main one. The two big reasons to build one are restricting what a device can reach (an import bus on a "pipe" subnet shouldn't see your main storage, or it'll dump items into your cells instead of the destination) and saving channels, like one pattern provider feeding an interface with storage buses on several machines for a single channel instead of one provider per machine.[25]
Classic subnet patterns include an import bus plus storage bus acting as an item or fluid pipe, an annihilation plane paired with a storage bus so the plane can only put blocks in one place (which lets you filter it), an interface plus formation plane so anything inserted gets placed or dropped in the world, and the storage-bus-on-interface trick for a side storage your main network can reach without flooding it.[25]
Many devices and components can be placed on a cable in the same block for compact builds. Shift-right-clicking with a Certus Quartz Wrench or Network Tool breaks off a single subpart (or the cable) without destroying everything in that block.[26][27]
Spatial IO
Spatial IO cuts and pastes a volume of the world by swapping it with an identically-sized volume in the spatial storage dimension. It's the one way to move flawless budding certus, and it can relocate things like the end portal. All components must be on the same network, and you can only have one spatial IO setup per network, so a subnet is recommended.[28][29][30]
Spatial Pylons define the volume: the bounding box of the outside of the pylons, contracted 1 block in every direction. Minimum size is 3x3x3 of pylon shell (giving a 1x1x1 volume), every pylon must sit in that outside shell and on the same network, and each pylon must be at least 2 blocks long. Efficiency depends on how much of the shell you fill, so minimal pylon arrays around large volumes can demand billions of AE.[28]
The Spatial IO Port runs the operation and shows you stored and maximum network energy, the required energy, pylon efficiency and the defined volume size. Put a spatial cell in the input slot and give the port a redstone pulse to swap. The required energy is spent instantaneously, which is exactly the surge dense energy cells exist for.[19][20][28]
The pack leaves the spatial power formula at spatialio.spatialPowerMultiplier 1,250 and spatialio.spatialPowerExponent 1.35.[18]
Certus growth
Certus quartz buds sprout from budding certus blocks much like amethyst. Breaking an unfinished bud drops one Certus Quartz Dust and fortune does nothing; breaking a fully grown cluster drops four Certus Quartz Crystal and fortune increases that. There are four tiers of budding block, Flawless, Flawed, Chipped and Damaged, found in meteorites, and each time a bud advances a stage an imperfect budding block can degrade a tier until it becomes plain certus quartz. Flawless blocks never degrade and can't be moved with a pickaxe even with silk touch, though spatial storage can move them.[29][30]
Budding blocks can be repaired, and new ones created, by throwing a budding block or a certus quartz block into water with one or more Charged Certus Quartz Crystal. Buds grow painfully slowly on their own, so Crystal Growth Accelerators placed adjacent are an early priority. Watch out for the tradeoff: each covered side of a budding block slows its cumulative growth rate, which eventually outweighs adding more accelerators. In this pack crafting.growthAccelerator is 10, so accelerators tick every 10 ticks.[18][29][30]
The pack leaves worldGen.spawnFlawlessOnly off and worldGen.spawnPressesInMeteorites on, so meteorites generate the usual mix of budding tiers and still contain processor presses. A Meteorite Compass points toward the nearest mysterious cube if you haven't stumbled into one of their craters already.[18][31]
Upgrade cards
Most devices take upgrade cards to change behaviour: acceleration, capacity, redstone control, fuzzy matching, inversion, crafting requests, equal distribution, energy and overflow destruction. Basic and advanced cards are the shared base for the rest.[10]

A few pack-side notes on device behaviour: automation.formationPlaneEntityLimit is 128, crafting.annihilationPlaneSkyDustGeneration is on so a face-up annihilation plane at maximum world height passively generates sky stone, and both matter cannon and tiny TNT block damage are disabled.[18]
How do you progress through Applied Energistics 2?
5 parts
The pack hands you a ready-made roadmap: the Applied Energistics 2 quest chapter. It opens on the ATM Star path with the "Applied Energistics" quest quest, which just asks for a Certus Quartz Crystal, and from there the chapter branches into machines, processors, power, storage and the late-game toys. Follow the quest tree and you'll hit the tiers in roughly the order below.[6][7]
Tier 0: Charger and Inscriber
"First Things First" quest wants two machines. The Charger, when powered, turns Certus Quartz Crystals into Charged Certus Quartz Crystal (the base for Fluix) and can also top up any item that stores power. The Inscriber grinds AE2's quartz crystals into dust and, more importantly, presses the printed circuits and processors that almost every ME device needs.[6]

Tier 1: Meteorites, presses and processors
"Meteorite hunting" quest is the real gate. Meteorites are buried underground, usually near the surface, and a Mysterious Cube at the center holds every Inscriber Press. The easy way to find one is a Meteorite Compass, made by putting a compass in a Charger.[6]
Meteorites also cover "Certus Quartz" quest, since that's where you mine Certus Quartz Crystals and dust. With a full set of presses you can complete "Processors" quest and start stamping out the three processors that gate the rest of the mod.[6]
This pack also adds crushing recipes for AE2's dusts, so you aren't stuck feeding everything through a single Inscriber once you scale up.[10]

"Fluix" quest runs in parallel: Fluix Crystal is the base for every cable in an ME network, so you'll want mass production early. The quest points you at making crystals in a pool of water and grinding them into Fluix Dust in an Inscriber. This pack also ships reaction recipes that produce Fluix and Certus crystals from charged certus.[6][10]

Tier 2: Terminals, power and the Controller
Processors unlock "Terminals" quest: the ME Terminal shows the whole network as one grid, and the ME Crafting Terminal adds a crafting grid that pulls straight from network storage.[6]
Power is its own little tier. Most of the network runs on AE, and RF/FE converts at 2:1 RF:AE through an Energy Acceptor or directly through a controller. A bare network only buffers 800 AE, with each controller block adding 8k AE; an Energy Cell adds another 200k AE and a Dense Energy Cell 1.6M AE, and both work anywhere on the network.[6]
The ME Controller from a quest in "Applied Energistics 2" is the step up from ad-hoc networking. Ad-hoc networks get 8 channels; a controller provides 32 channels per face, 216 for a single block, and it's a multiblock up to 7x7x7 in any freeform shape as long as no block is surrounded by 4 others in the same plane. Only one controller per network, or the whole thing shuts down.[6]

Tier 3: Storage cells, 1k to 256k
"The Storage" quest gives you somewhere to put cells: the ME Chest holds one cell and has its own terminal screen on top, while the ME Drive packs 10 assorted cells into one block and one channel but needs a terminal elsewhere.[6]
A cell's capacity comes from its component. "Creating your first Storage Cell" quest starts you on the 1k ME Storage Component, worth 1024 bytes of storage. From there each tier is crafted out of the tier below it, so upgrading is a ladder rather than a jump, and follow-up quests like "4k Storage Component" quest walk you up it.[6][10]

Each component can go into an item cell, a fluid cell at the same tier, or straight into an ME Item Cell Housing or ME Fluid Cell Housing if you already have one. A Cell Workbench then partitions cells, flips the filter to a blacklist with an Inverter Card, and sets which cells fill first.[6][10]
Late game: Spatial IO and the Star
"Spatial IO" quest opens the spatial branch, where a cage of Spatial Pylon blocks captures whole structures into cells. "Spatial Storage Cell" quest has three capacities, up to 2x2x2, 16x16x16 and 128x128x128 blocks, and it's extremely power-hungry at the top end. Each pylon costs a channel regardless of its length, so a dedicated controller network is often worth it. The Spatial Anchor from the same branch simply chunk-loads everything your network touches while it stays powered.[6]
On the ATM Star side you only need two AE2 pieces: a quest in "Chapter 3: The ATM Star" for the ME Quantum Ring, and "Singularity" quest for a Singularity, which has two crafting routes that both come down to condensing a pile of items into one point.[7]
How does Applied Energistics 2 work with other mods?
6 parts
AE2 doesn't sit in a corner on its own in this pack. A pile of recipes wire it into space travel, computers, compression and the whole Advanced/Extended AE addon family, and a lot of those recipes were changed by the pack rather than shipped by the mods.[10]
Ad Astra sky stone
Sky Stone isn't only an AE2 thing here. The pack ships changed compatibility recipes that turn Ad Astra's Sky Stone into AE2's Sky Stone Dust in an Inscriber, smelt it into Sky Stone Block, or crush it into dust in a Mekanism crusher. If you're already flying around for other reasons, that's free meteorite material.[10]

ComputerCraft and Advanced Peripherals
If you want a computer to read or control your ME network, Advanced Peripherals' ME Bridge is the link, and its recipe is changed by the pack in this version.[10]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: advancedperipherals:me_bridge
Advanced Peripherals also adds AE-flavoured floppies: AE Disk Cell 1M, AE Disk Cell 4M, AE Disk Cell 16M, AE Disk Cell 64M and AE Disk Cell 256M. All five are a pack-changed upgrade ladder, each tier built from the one below it, so start at 1M and work up.[10]
Advanced AE and ExtendedAE
These two addons are the deepest integration in the pack, and they get their own quest chapter, "Extended \& Advanced AE" quest. Almost everything in the quantum tier is built on plain AE2 parts, and several recipes cross the streams: the Advanced Extended Pattern Provider is a pack-changed upgrade path from ExtendedAE's ME Extended Pattern Provider, the Quantum Crafting Unit is a pack-changed shapeless craft involving ExtendedAE's Concurrent Processor, and the Quantum Processor can be made either in an AE2 Inscriber or in ExtendedAE's Crystal Assembler.[10][32]
The Reaction Chamber is the real cross-mod machine. Pack-changed reaction recipes there produce MEGA Cells' Sky Bronze Ingot, Sky Osmium Ingot and Sky Steel Ingot, Applied Flux's Redstone Crystal, and ExtendedAE's Entro Crystal, all from AE2 staples like Charged Certus Quartz Crystal and Fluix Crystal.[10]
One of three pack-changed sky ingot reactions.
Endgame gear crosses over too: the pack changed the four Quantum armour recipes and the Strength Card so they tie directly into Allthemodium gear, which makes them a genuine late-game goal rather than a side craft.[10]
Crafting Shaped

All the Compressed
Three AE2 blocks have pack-changed compression recipes: Certus Quartz Block, Fluix Block and Sky Stone each get a 1x compressed form, and each one decompresses again. Handy once your certus and fluix farms are running faster than you can spend them.[10]
AE2 quality-of-life addons
Several small addons hang off AE2 parts directly: AE2WTLib adds the Wireless Pattern Access Terminal, Wireless Pattern Encoding Terminal, Quantum Bridge Card and the pack-changed Magnet Card, and lets you combine wireless terminals into one universal terminal. AE2 Network Analyser gives you the ME Network Analyzer, and the import/export card addon adds pack-changed Import Card and Export Card versions of your buses.[10]

AE2 is also on the critical path to the star: the ATM Star chapter opens its AE2 branch with "Applied Energistics" quest, asking for a Certus Quartz Crystal, and follows it up with an ME Quantum Ring.[7]
Which All the Mods 10 quests use Applied Energistics 2?
4 parts
Applied Energistics 2 gets its own dedicated quest chapter in this pack, simply called "Applied Energistics 2". It is a big branching tree rather than a straight line, so you can push down whichever branch you care about once the early quests are done.[6]
The mod also shows up outside that chapter: "Chapter 3: The ATM Star" contains an Applied Energistics quest ("Applied Energistics" quest), so your AE2 progress feeds into the pack's endgame goal too.[6][7]
Getting started
- "First Things First" quest opens the chapter and asks for a Charger and an Inscriber, the two machines that charge Certus Quartz Crystals and fabricate printed circuits and processors.[6]
- "Meteorite hunting" quest wants a Meteorite Compass (plus an advancement) and sends you underground after Sky Stone meteorites, whose Mysterious Cube holds all of the Inscriber presses.[6]
- From there the tree splits: "Certus Quartz" quest asks for Certus Quartz Crystal and Certus Quartz Dust, while "Processors" quest asks for the full processor set once you have the presses.[6]
- Off the Certus branch, "Fluix" quest covers Fluix Dust and Fluix Crystal, and a quest in "Applied Energistics 2" hands you the Energy Acceptor for getting RF/FE into the network.[6]
Power tasks continue from the Energy Acceptor quest: a quest in "Applied Energistics 2" asks for an Energy Cell and a Dense Energy Cell, and a quest in "Applied Energistics 2" follows it with the Energy Card.[6]
Network backbone
- "Terminals" quest comes after the processors and asks for the ME Terminal and ME Crafting Terminal.[6]
- a quest in "Applied Energistics 2" then asks for the ME Controller, and "Network Tools" quest for the Network Tool.[6]
- With terminals and a controller done, "The Storage" quest unlocks and asks for an ME Chest and an ME Drive.[6]
- Wireless access branches off the controller quest: a quest in "Applied Energistics 2" wants an ME Wireless Access Point and Wireless Booster, then "Wireless Terminals" quest asks for the Wireless Terminal and Wireless Crafting Terminal.[6]
Storage and cells
The storage quest leads into "Creating your first Storage Cell" quest for a 1k ME Storage Component, which then splits into "Item Storage" quest for a 1k ME Item Storage Cell and "4k Storage Component" quest for the next tier component. Alongside those, a quest in "Applied Energistics 2" asks for a Cell Workbench, which unlocks the card quests a quest in "Applied Energistics 2" and a quest in "Applied Energistics 2", and a quest in "Applied Energistics 2" asks for an ME IO Port.[6]
- a quest in "Applied Energistics 2" asks for an ME Import Bus, which periodically sucks items in from whatever external storage it faces and can be filtered.[6]
- a quest in "Applied Energistics 2" asks for an ME Export Bus, which spits whitelisted items out to the storage it faces and cannot work without a filter.[6]
- a quest in "Applied Energistics 2" asks for an ME Storage Bus so an external container can be used as though it were part of the network, and a quest in "Applied Energistics 2" follows it with the Capacity Card.[6]
- "P2P Tunnels" quest asks for an ME P2P Tunnel, and a quest in "Applied Energistics 2" follows it with the Memory Card you need to link tunnels together.[6]
- "Forgot to Mention" quest asks for a Quartz Fiber, the cable part that passes power but no data or channels, which is what makes subnetting possible.[6]
- The planes hang off the buses: a quest in "Applied Energistics 2" follows the import bus and asks for an ME Annihilation Plane, while a quest in "Applied Energistics 2" follows the export bus and asks for a ME Formation Plane.[6]
Auto-crafting and Spatial IO
- "Auto-Crafting" quest asks for an ME Pattern Access Terminal and is the gateway to the rest of the auto-crafting branch.[6]
- "Patterns" quest comes next and asks for an ME Pattern Encoding Terminal; the same quest also wants a Blank Pattern to encode.[6]
- "ME Level Emitter" quest, a quest in "Applied Energistics 2" for a Growth Accelerator and a quest in "Applied Energistics 2", which accepts any tier of crafting storage, also branch off the auto-crafting quest.[6]
- "Spatial IO" quest asks for a Spatial IO Port, then a quest in "Applied Energistics 2" for a Spatial Pylon, which opens "Spatial Storage Cell" quest (any of the three cell sizes) and a quest in "Applied Energistics 2" for a Spatial Anchor.[6]
- Two tool quests sit off to the side: "Cable Anchor" quest covers the Cable Anchor and Inscriber Name Press, and "Color Applicator" quest asks for a Color Applicator.[6]
Which Applied Energistics 2 config options matter?
5 parts
Everything AE2 exposes for tweaking in this pack lives in config/ae2-common.toml. Below are the values All the Mods 10 8.1 actually ships, so you know what your world is running before you start changing things.[18]
Unverified The pack's config file shows the values in use, but not AE2's own out-of-the-box defaults, so this section can't tell you which of these lines the pack authors changed and which are untouched.
Channels and network behaviour
- general.channels is set to DEFAULT, so cables use normal AE2 channel capacity. The other accepted values are INFINITE, X2, X3 and X4 if you'd rather stop planning around channels entirely.[1][18]
- general.pathfindingStepsPerTick is 4. That's how many pathfinding steps each booting grid does per tick; raising it makes boots finish faster at the cost of more work per tick, lowering it does the opposite.[18]
- craftingCPU.craftingCalculationTimePerTick is 5, which is how long a CPU spends planning a crafting job each tick.[18]
- general.spatialAnchorEnableRandomTicks is true, so Spatial Anchors force random chunk ticks and entity spawning in the chunks they keep loaded.[18]
Speed knobs
- crafting.growthAccelerator is 10 ticks between growth accelerator ticks.[18]
- battery.chargerChargeRate is 1, meaning chargers run at the normal rate; 2 would be twice as fast and 0.5 half as fast, up to a maximum of 10.[18]
- Device tick rates are on stock-looking ranges: import bus 5-40, export bus 5-60, storage bus 5-60, interface 5-120, inscriber 1-20, IO port 1-5, annihilation plane 2-120, charger fixed at 10, and the P2P tunnels at 5-60 (items and light) and 5-20 (ME).[18]
Power and wireless
- powerRatios.usageMultiplier is 1 and powerRatios.forgeEnergy is 0.5, so AE2 devices draw their normal power and the FE conversion ratio sits at half.[18]
- powerRatios.gridEnergyStoragePerNode is 25, the internal grid buffer each attached node contributes.[18]
- powerRatios.crystalResonanceGeneratorRate is 20 energy per tick.[18]
- The Vibration Chamber makes 5 AE per fuel burn tick and ramps between 4 and 40 AE/t depending on how much of its output you're actually using.[18]
- Wireless is on the baseline numbers: base cost 8, base range 16, booster exponent 1.5, booster range multiplier 1, cost multiplier 1, high wireless count 64 and terminal drain multiplier 1.[18]
- Battery sizes: Wireless Terminal 1,600,000, Matter Cannon and Entropy Manipulator 200,000 each, Color Applicator and portable cells 20,000, and the Charged Staff 8,000.[18]
Safety and convenience toggles
- Block-breaking is off for both the Matter Cannon and Tiny TNT in this pack, so neither will chew up your base.[18]
- crafting.disassemblyCrafting and portableCells.allowDisassembly are both true, so you can shift-click crafting units in hand and shift+right-click portable cells to get the ingredients back.[18]
- crafting.annihilationPlaneSkyDustGeneration is true: an annihilation plane facing up at max world height passively generates sky stone.[18]
- facades.allowBlockEntities and general.unsupportedDeveloperTools are both false, and the facade option is explicitly flagged as unsupported and potentially world-corrupting.[18]
World generation
- worldGen.spawnPressesInMeteorites is true, so meteorites still contain the inscriber presses.[18]
- worldGen.spawnFlawlessOnly is false.[18]
What changed in Applied Energistics 2 between versions?
1 part
All the Mods 10 8.1 ships Applied Energistics 2 version 19.2.17, as the file appliedenergistics2-19.2.17.jar. The mod has been part of the pack for a long time (it was already included in All the Mods 10 2.25 or earlier) so most of its history here is a steady stream of version bumps rather than additions or removals.[3]
Early on, the pack rode beta builds of Applied Energistics 2. Pack version 2.31 moved from 19.1.3-beta up to 19.2.2-beta, and betas continued through 2.36 (19.2.3-beta) and 2.37 (19.2.5-beta). The pack settled onto stable builds in 2.42, when the mod went from 19.2.5-beta to 19.2.7.[33][34][35][36]
Update timeline
- All the Mods 10 2.31: 19.1.3-beta to 19.2.2-beta.[33]
- All the Mods 10 2.36: 19.2.2-beta to 19.2.3-beta.[34]
- All the Mods 10 2.37: 19.2.3-beta to 19.2.5-beta.[35]
- All the Mods 10 2.42: 19.2.5-beta to 19.2.7, the move off beta builds.[36]
- All the Mods 10 2.43: 19.2.7 to 19.2.8.[37]
- All the Mods 10 2.47: 19.2.8 to 19.2.10.[38]
- All the Mods 10 3.2: 19.2.10 to 19.2.11.[39]
- All the Mods 10 4.0: 19.2.11 to 19.2.12.[40]
- All the Mods 10 4.5: 19.2.12 to 19.2.13.[41]
- All the Mods 10 4.6: 19.2.13 to 19.2.15.[42]
- All the Mods 10 4.11: 19.2.15 to 19.2.16.[43]
- All the Mods 10 4.12: 19.2.16 to 19.2.17, the version you're running in 8.1.[3][44]
The last update we have a changelog entry for is pack version 4.12, and 8.1 still ships 19.2.17, so as far as the pack's records go, Applied Energistics 2 has been sitting on the same build since then, and coming back to a world from that stretch shouldn't shift your network underneath you.[3][44]
Unverified The mod's own per-version changelogs aren't stored for the jars shipped in this pack, so we can't say what each of these Applied Energistics 2 releases actually changed, only which versions the pack moved between.
