What is EvilCraft?

2 parts

EvilCraft is in All the Mods 10 4.5 as version 1.2.74, the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21.1. It has been part of the pack since version 2.25 or earlier, so it has been in for a long time.[1]

The pack gives EvilCraft its own quest chapter. The chapter starts with a single task: get a Dark Gem in a quest in "?". From there it splits into two branches. One starts with the Blood Extractor and the other with the Weather Container. The Weather Container quest also includes a structure task.[2]

How the quest chapter unfolds

  1. The Weather Container branch leads to the Necromancer Staff, the Mace of Distortion, the Lightning Bomb and Lightning Grenade, and Eternal Water Block.[2]
  2. The Blood Extractor branch opens up the Dark Power Gem, the Hardened Blood Shard, the Dark Tank, the Vengeance Ring, the Spikey Claws, and the Sanguinary Pedestal with the Spiked Plate.[2]
  3. The Dark Power Gem and Hardened Blood Shard quests both lead into the Blood Infusion Core in a quest in "?". That quest unlocks the Blood Infuser, the Blood Chest and the Invigorating Pendant.[2]
  4. The Blood Infuser leads to the Promise system, starting with the Iron Promise Acceptor and Promise of Tenacity I. It also leads to the Undead Sapling, which opens up the Broom, the Vein Sword and the Vengeance Pickaxe.[2]
  5. Late in the chapter you build the Spirit Furnace, and its quest also asks for 33 Dark Blood Brick. After that come the Spirit Reanimator, Garmonbozia, the Entangled Chalice and the Mace of Destruction.[2]

EvilCraft also appears in other quest chapters. The Forbidden Arcanus chapter asks for a Spiked Plate and a Powered Sanguinary Pedestal, and after that a Blood Bucket.[3]

The "chapter_2_the_star" quest chapter also opens with a Dark Gem. It then asks for a Lightning Bomb, a Dark Tank, a Piercing Vengeance Focus and a Mace of Destruction.[4]

Tip: Both the EvilCraft chapter and the "chapter_2_the_star" chapter start with a Dark Gem, and the Mace of Destruction shows up in both. If you work through the EvilCraft chapter, you'll also be making progress on those other quests.[2][4]

Unverified It is unconfirmed whether the "chapter_2_the_star" quests count toward the ATM Star. It is also unconfirmed how EvilCraft's blood and machine mechanics work in detail, because the available sources only list quest tasks.

How do you get started with EvilCraft?

6 parts

EvilCraft has its own chapter in the All the Mods 10 quest book, and it all starts from one item: the Dark Gem. The chapter then splits into two paths. One follows the Blood Extractor, which is where most of the progression goes. The other follows the Weather Container. Follow the steps below in order and you'll hit the quests that unlock the rest of the tree.[2]

Step 1: Get Dark Gems

Your first goal is a Dark Gem, which completes a quest in "?". The mod's own advancement tells you to mine Dark Gems to discover the first evil age, so keep an eye out for them while you're underground. If you find or make a Dark Block, you can turn it back into gems.[2][5][6]

Step 2: Craft a Blood Extractor

The Blood Extractor is your big milestone. The mod calls crafting it the start of the second evil age, and its quest a quest in "?" unlocks most of the chapter. That includes Spikey Claws, the Hardened Blood Shard, the Vengeance Ring, the Dark Power Gem, the Dark Tank and the Sanguinary Pedestal. The recipe uses a Spike. The mod's notes describe making Spikes from a Dark Gem and a piece of iron.[2][5][6]

Step 3: Build a Dark Tank

Next, grab a Dark Tank so you have somewhere to put fluids. The mod describes it as holding about sixteen buckets. You can combine several tanks in a crafting grid to raise the capacity without losing any fluid. If you place it and right-click it, it will fill containers underneath it. If you Shift + right-click while holding it in the air, it will try to fill the container you're holding.[2][6]

Step 4: Start collecting blood

The quest a quest in "?" asks for a Sanguinary Pedestal and a Spiked Plate. The pedestal drains blood from blood stains in the area. Blood stains appear when an entity falls to its death. The Spiked Plate damages mobs, and if you place it on the pedestal it drains their blood.[2][6]

Step 5: The Blood Infusion Core

Once you've done the Dark Power Gem quest a quest in "?" and the Hardened Blood Shard quest a quest in "?", you unlock a quest in "?" for the Blood Infusion Core. This core is the gateway to the Blood Infuser, the Blood Chest and the Invigorating Pendant.[2][5]

Side path: the Weather Container

The quest a quest in "?" asks you to find a structure and get a Weather Container. It unlocks the Necromancer Staff, the Mace of Distortion, the Lightning Grenade and Lightning Bomb, and Eternal Water. The Eternal Water Block block is an infinite source of water, so it's a handy early grab.[2][6]

Tip: EvilCraft matters beyond its own chapter. The pack's Star quest chapter asks for a Dark Gem, a Dark Tank, a Lightning Bomb, a Piercing Vengeance Focus and a Mace of Destruction, so the early steps above also move you toward that goal.[4]

Unverified The sources don't confirm where Dark Gems generate, which structure the Weather Container quest wants, or how you first obtain Dark Power Gems and Hardened Blood Shards beyond the unpacking recipes shown. Check JEI in-game for those. This site does hold All the Mods 10's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How does EvilCraft work?

9 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Most of EvilCraft's machines and gear run on Blood. Blood is a fluid: you collect it from mobs, store it in tanks and containers, and spend it in machines and tools. Once you know where Blood comes from, how it moves and what uses it, the rest of the mod gets much easier to follow.[7][8]

Getting Blood

The simplest source is a Blood Stain, a splash of Blood that appears when an entity falls to its death. In this pack, block.blood_stain.bloodMBPerHP is 20. That means a stain gets 20 mB of Blood for every HP of the dead mob's max health.[7][8]

Stains have a couple of limits in this pack. block.blood_stain.spawnOnBlockEntities is false, so stains won't form on block entities. block.blood_stain.spawnBlacklist also stops stains from forming on any block matching tconstruct:.*, so plan your farm floor with that in mind.[8]

Undead Leaves can create Blood Stains by themselves, up to 25 mB per random tick, set by block.undead_leaves.maxBloodStainAmount. An Undead Sapling grows an Undead Tree.[7][8]

Hardened Blood is dried Blood. It turns back into liquid when it rains on it or when you break it.[7]

The Blood Extractor

Crafting the Blood Extractor starts what the mod calls the second evil age. In this pack it holds 5,000 mB of Blood, set by item.blood_extractor.containerSize. The Blood it collects per mob HP uses a multiplier between 5 and 40, set by item.blood_extractor.minimumMobMultiplier and item.blood_extractor.maximumMobMultiplier. It won't auto-fill held buckets here, because item.blood_extractor.autoFillBuckets is false.[7][8]

Automated Blood farming with Spiked Plates and Pedestals

The Sanguinary Pedestal drains Blood from Blood Stains in the area around it, and the second tier drains even more. Since stains form when mobs die from falling, a Pedestal is a natural partner for a fall-damage mob farm.[7]

The Spiked Plate damages any mob that walks over it, but it doesn't hurt you or other players. Place it on a Pedestal to drain Blood. In this pack it deals 4 damage each time it hurts a mob, set by block.spiked_plate.damage. You get 40 mB of Blood per mob HP, set by block.spiked_plate.mobMultiplier.[7][8]

Tip: Mobs killed by a Spiked Plate drop the same loot as if a player had killed them. The plate also gives off a redstone signal while a mob is taking damage, which you can use to control other parts of your farm.[7]

Moving and storing fluids

In this pack, machines and items can push out up to 100 mB of fluid per tick, set by general.general.mbFlowRate. Keep that rate in mind when you plan how fast Blood moves through your setup.[8]

The Dark Tank is the main fluid container. It holds about sixteen buckets, and you can place it in the world or carry it in your inventory. Put several tanks together in a crafting grid to combine them into a bigger one. No fluid is lost when you do this.[7]

  • Right-click a placed Dark Tank and it gets a purple glow. It then fills tanks, item containers and players carrying containers directly below it.[7]
  • Hold the tank and shift + right-click while not aiming at a block to turn on auto-supply. The tank then tries to fill any container you're holding, as long as that container accepts the fluid.[7]
  • Held buckets are not auto-filled in this pack, because item.dark_tank.autoFillBuckets is false.[8]

Entangled Chalices share their contents, so every entangled chalice holds the same fluid wherever it is. Shift + right-click one to turn on omni-supply.[7]

Blood machines and storage

The Blood Infusion Core goes into two key blocks: the Blood Infuser and the Blood Chest. There is also a Colossal Blood Chest, which the mod describes as an industry-sized Blood Chest.[7][9]

Unverified The available sources don't explain what the Blood Infuser does, how the Blood Chest uses Blood, or how to build the Colossal Blood Chest. Check the in-game tooltips and your recipe viewer for those details. This site does hold All the Mods 10's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

Environmental Accumulators and Biome Extracts

You can't craft the Environmental Accumulator. It only appears at Dark Temples. The Sanguinary Environmental Accumulator is the craftable version. It needs tanks with Blood at specific positions, and if the setup is invalid it shows a message listing where those tanks are required.[7]

An Accumulator can fill Biome Extract bottles with the biome it's placed in. Throw a filled bottle on the ground to turn that area into the stored biome. The downside is that the Accumulator slowly degrades its own biome, so the bottles it makes get less useful over time. In this pack, item.biome_extract.craftingBlacklist and item.biome_extract.usageBlacklist are both empty, so no biome is blocked.[7][8]

Vengeance Spirit machines

The Spirit Furnace cooks Vengeance Spirits to get their drops. It halts when it has no more space for drops, so keep its output clear. The Spirit Reanimator revives Vengeance Spirits. It needs a box that holds a spirit, and the mob must have a spawn egg. If different mob eggs are inside, you have to remove them first.[7]

To keep Vengeance Spirits away from your base, place Gem Stone Torches. In this pack each torch blocks spirit spawning in a 15-block radius, set by block.gem_stone_torch.area.[7][8]

Item handling helpers

The Display Stand shows off an item, but you can also use it in automation. Pipe items in and out through the top or bottom. From any other side, interaction passes through to the item it holds, so you can reach that item's inventory, fluids or energy.[7]

The Exalted Crafter lets you craft from your inventory, and you can open it with a hotkey. If you attach a chest to it, it gets an internal inventory, and even an Ender Chest works. Pressing the hotkey while the GUI is open clears the inventory, and shift plus the hotkey balances the items in the grid evenly. A toggle button picks where shift-removed items go: the crafter's inner inventory or your player inventory. If lightning strikes it, it can no longer be destroyed or disappear when dropped.[7]

In this pack, shift-clicking an item never sends it to the Exalted Crafter's grid first, on any variant. The shiftCraftingGrid option is false for all four variants, for example item.exalted_crafter.shiftCraftingGrid.[8]

Blood-powered gear

  • The Broom uses 1 mB of Blood per tick, set by item.broom.bloodUsage, plus 1 mB per block broken, set by item.broom.bloodUsageBlockBreak.[8]
  • The Kineticator checks the area for items every 1 tick and uses Blood every 20 ticks while valid items are nearby. It also attracts XP orbs, set by item.kineticator.moveXP. The repelling version has the same settings.[8]
  • The Invigorating Pendant has a capacity of 5,000. It drains 100 Blood each time it clears a bad effect and reduces the first bad effect it finds by 30 seconds. It drains 500 Blood each time it reduces or clears fire.[8]
  • Rejuvenated Flesh holds 10,000 mB and uses 250 mB per bite. The Necromancer Staff has a capacity of 10,000.[8]
Tip: In this pack, a Blood overlay is drawn in the bottom-right corner of your screen. You can turn it off or move it with general.general.bloodGuiOverlay and general.general.bloodGuiOverlayPosition.[8]

How do you progress through EvilCraft?

6 parts

The EvilCraft quest chapter in this pack is a big branching tree. Everything starts with a single item, Dark Gem, in a quest in "?". From there the chapter splits into two lines: a weather and combat branch that opens with Weather Container, and a blood branch that opens with Blood Extractor. The blood branch is where the real progression happens.[2]

Unverified The sources don't say how you get your first Dark Gems, or what the structure task in the Weather Container quest asks for. Check the quest book in-game for those details.

Weather and combat branch

a quest in "?" has a structure task and also asks for a Weather Container. Completing it unlocks several side quests.[2]

The Blood Infusion Core gate

a quest in "?" asks for a Blood Infusion Core. It only unlocks once you've finished both the Dark Power Gem quest and the Hardened Blood Shard quest. Plan on making lots of these cores: in this pack they go into the Blood Chest, Blood Infuser, Colossal Blood Chest, Purifier, both Kineticators, both pendants, the Spirit Furnace, the Spirit Reanimator and the Sanguinary Environmental Accumulator.[2][5]

The core quest unlocks three follow-ups: the Invigorating Pendant in a quest in "?", the Blood Chest in a quest in "?", and the Blood Infuser in a quest in "?". The Blood Chest line continues to a quest in "?", which asks for a Colossal Blood Chest and Reinforced Undead Planks.[2]

Promise tiers

Each Promise of Tenacity quest pairs the promise with a matching acceptor, so you step up from iron to gold to diamond.[2]

  1. a quest in "?" asks for an Iron Promise Acceptor and a Promise of Tenacity I. It is the hub for the mid game.[2]
  2. a quest in "?" asks for a Gold Promise Acceptor and a Promise of Tenacity II.[2]
  3. a quest in "?" asks for a Diamond Promise Acceptor and a Promise of Tenacity III.[2]

The Promise of Productivity and Promise of Velocity quests together lead to a quest in "?", which asks for the Effortless Ring.[2]

a quest in "?" needs both the second Tenacity quest and the Vengeance Focus quest. It asks for a Spirit Furnace plus 33 Dark Blood Brick. After that, a quest in "?" asks for the Spirit Reanimator.[2]

Finishing the third Tenacity quest unlocks the Entangled Chalice quest and the Garmonbozia quest. Garmonbozia is the final gate: it leads to the Mace of Destruction, the Primed Pendant, the Sanguinary Environmental Acc., Werewolf Flesh and Humanoid Flesh. The two flesh quests together unlock a quest in "?", the last quest in the chapter, which asks for Rejuvenated Flesh.[2]

How does EvilCraft work with other mods?

5 parts

EvilCraft is tied into this pack's wider progression, and the main link is Blood. The pack adds a lot of recipes that pull Blood into other mods' crafting chains, so a solid Blood setup pays off well beyond EvilCraft itself.[5]

Blood in the Automatic Hephaestus Forge

The pack adds a large set of Automatic Hephaestus Forge recipes, and nearly all of them need Blood alongside liquids like Liquid Aureal and Liquid Souls. Many of these make Forbidden Arcanus items, including Smelter Prism, Sea Prism, Terrastomp Prism, Whirlwind Prism, Soul Binding Crystal, Quantum Injector and Runic Attuned Arcane Crystal.[5]

The same forge also makes Modular Machinery Reborn parts with Blood: modular_machinery_reborn:modularium, several versions of the modular_machinery_reborn:controller that each use a different Mekanism machine, and the Runic multiblock pieces like Runic Crucible, Runic Enchanter, Runic Star Altar and the runic item, fluid and energy hatches. Even the Automatic Hephaestus Forge itself has a recipe in this set that needs Blood.[5]

Auto Forge (modern_industrialization)

Recipe id: modern_industrialization:kjs/eehhs1kwhyjsbyy5i74vt6889

The Automatic Hephaestus Forge recipe, which uses Blood.

The pack also adds Modular Machinery Reborn machine recipes for the Hephaestus Forge automation, and every one of them lists Blood as an input.[5]

Tip: Blood shows up in so many of these forge recipes that it's worth automating your Blood supply early. You'll want a steady flow once you start on the runic machines and Forbidden Arcanus prisms.[5]

Endgame crafting

EvilCraft items are part of the big endgame crafts. The pack's Oblivion Shard recipe needs Blood and a Piercing Vengeance Focus, and Pulsating Black Hole needs a Lightning Bomb.[5]

The star quest chapter guides you there, asking for a Dark Gem first, then a Lightning Bomb, Dark Tank, Piercing Vengeance Focus and Mace of Destruction in a quest in "?", a quest in "?", a quest in "?", a quest in "?" and a quest in "?".[4]

Once you have an ATM Star, the pack lets you craft the Creative Blood Drop from it together with Blood and a Promise of Tenacity III. Quest a quest in "?" in the ATM Star chapter asks for it.[5][11]

Which All the Mods 10 quests use EvilCraft?

6 parts

EvilCraft has its own dedicated quest chapter in this pack, and a handful of its items also appear as tasks in four other chapters. All the quests are untitled, so they're linked below by their quest entries.[2][3][4][10][11]

The EvilCraft chapter

Everything starts with a quest in "?", which asks for a Dark Gem. After that the chapter splits into two branches. a quest in "?" asks for a Weather Container plus a structure task. a quest in "?" asks for a Blood Extractor, and most of the chapter grows from that one.[2]

Unverified The quest data doesn't say which structure the Weather Container quest wants you to find.

Weather Container branch

Blood Extractor branch

Once you have the Blood Extractor, several quests open at the same time: Spikey Claws in a quest in "?", a Hardened Blood Shard in a quest in "?", a Vengeance Ring and Vengeance Essence in a quest in "?", a Sanguinary Pedestal and Spiked Plate in a quest in "?", a Dark Power Gem in a quest in "?", and a Dark Tank in a quest in "?".[2]

The Vengeance quest leads to a quest in "?", which asks for a Vengeance Focus and a Box of Eternal Closure. The Dark Power Gem unlocks a quest in "?" for the Blood Pearl of Teleportation. Together with the Hardened Blood Shard, it also unlocks the key quest a quest in "?", which asks for a Blood Infusion Core.[2]

After the Blood Infusion Core

Endgame of the chapter

a quest in "?" needs both the Gold Promise quest and the Vengeance Focus quest done first. It asks for a Spirit Furnace and 33 Dark Blood Brick, and it leads to the Spirit Reanimator in a quest in "?".[2]

The Diamond Promise quest unlocks the Entangled Chalice in a quest in "?" and Garmonbozia in a quest in "?". Garmonbozia then opens the final group: Werewolf Flesh in a quest in "?", the Mace of Destruction in a quest in "?", the Primed Pendant in a quest in "?", the Sanguinary Environmental Acc. in a quest in "?", and Humanoid Flesh in a quest in "?". With both flesh quests done, you can finish a quest in "?" by getting Rejuvenated Flesh.[2]

Which EvilCraft config options matter?

5 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

EvilCraft has a big common config file, but only a handful of options really change how your blood-soaked playthrough feels. Here's what All the Mods 10 8.1 sets for the ones you're most likely to notice.[8]

Unverified The sources only show the values this pack ships with, not the mod's own defaults. So this section can't tell you which of these values the pack changed from stock EvilCraft.

Getting blood

Blood Chest repairs

The Blood Chest uses 5 mB and 2 ticks to repair each point of damage (machine.blood_chest.mBPerDamage and machine.blood_chest.ticksPerDamage). Sticks can't be repaired.[8]

Watch out: machine.blood_chest.addRandomBadEnchants is on in this pack. Each repair has a 1 in 10,000 chance (machine.blood_chest.randomBadEnchantsChance) to add a random bad enchant to your item. It's rare, but don't be shocked if it happens.[8]

Spirits and mobs

Spirit Furnace

The Spirit Furnace burns 25 mB per tick for normal mobs, 100 mB for player spirits and 250 mB for bosses. It needs 10 ticks per HP of the entity it's cooking. Villagers have a 1 in 20 chance to drop emeralds.[8]

Quality of life
