What is Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks?
2 parts
Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks is an RPG-inspired spellcasting mod. You fight dangerous wizards, raid structures, delve through dungeons, collect resources and hunt down powerful magical items. All the Mods 10 8.1 ships version 1.21.1-3.16.3 of the mod.[1][2]
Every spell has a rarity, a level and a school. You collect spells as Scroll items, then inscribe them into a spell book at the Inscription Table so you can cast them again and again. You can't just make whatever you want with iron and redstone, though. The pack's quests are clear that you'll need to adventure and fight for your magic.[3][4][5]
This mod is for you if you want a dedicated wizard playstyle. Each school of magic has its own theme, its own Focus crafting ingredient and its own gear. That lets you become a master of a single school or mix and match as a jack of all trades.[6][7]
How progression flows
- Early game is all about exploring and looting magic structures, each guarded by a powerful mage. You also craft beginner spell books from basic materials and fill them using the Inscription Table.[4]
- Nether-level resources unlock the Scroll Forge, which crafts scrolls from ink, paper and a school Focus. Around the same time you get intermediate spell books and armor made from Arcane Cloth.[8]
- Late game needs netherite and the Arcane Anvil, which you use to level up scrolls, upgrade armor and spell books, and imbue weapons with spells.[9]
The pack has its own quest chapter for the mod, starting at "Iron's Spells 'N Spellbooks" quest with a single piece of Arcane Essence.[3]
On the ATM Star path
Chapter 3 of the ATM Star questline includes "Iron's Spells and Spellbooks" quest. That quest leads to "Wither Skull Scroll" quest, a Wither Skull scroll made with a Blood Vial that must be Legendary at level 10. It also leads to "Lightning Upgrade Orb" quest, which needs a Lightning Upgrade Orb.[10]
How do you get started with Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks?
6 parts
Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks is an RPG-style spellcasting mod. You fight dangerous wizards, raid structures, delve through dungeons and collect powerful magic items. The pack's own quest intro puts it plainly: you can't just craft whatever you want from iron and redstone. You'll need to get out there, adventure and fight![1][3]
Early game is all about exploring and looting. The world is full of magic loot, especially in the new magic structures scattered across the land. Your first goal is to grab some scrolls and something to put them in.[4]
Hang on to your scrolls
Scrolls are your first taste of magic. You can find them in chests, loot them from mobs, or craft them later. Each one holds a spell with a level, a bit like an enchanted book. You can use a scroll on its own to cast its spell with no mana cost or cooldown, but that uses the scroll up. It's usually better to save it and inscribe it into a spell book, where you can cast it again and again.[4][5]
Get an Inscription Table
The Inscription Table is how you put spells into a spell book, and it has its own quest in the pack's chapter, a quest in "Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks". You can craft one, or find one in most Iron's Spells structures. Put your spell book in the book slot and the scroll below it. To take a scroll back out, click it and pull it from the right side into your inventory. Just remember that removing a scroll uninscribes that spell from the book.[3][4]
Your first spell book
Beginner spell books are crafted from basic materials. The Flimsy Journal is the most basic and cheapest spell book, and it holds 5 spells. It's the natural first craft.[3][4]

Flimsy Journal, your cheapest starter book
Each higher tier of craftable spell book adds spell slots and often brings extra bonuses. The next step, the Ironbound Tome, holds one more spell than the Flimsy Journal.[3][12]
Arcane Essence and your first mage armor
Arcane Essence is the item that starts the pack's Iron's Spells quest chapter, "Iron's Spells 'N Spellbooks" quest. Some basic materials like this can even be found sparsely in vanilla structures. Combine Arcane Essence with leather armor to craft the Wandering Magician armor, an early source of extra max mana.[3][4]
Collect some ink
Ink decides which spell levels you can craft. Common Ink is the most common and crafts the lowest level of spells. If a spell's lowest level is above common, you can't craft it with common ink, and the same rule applies to every ink tier. Start stockpiling ink now so you're ready for the next stage.[13]
Where this leads
Once you reach Nether-level resources, the Scroll Forge lets you craft scrolls from ink, paper and a focus item. The ink sets the rarity and the focus sets the spell's school. Further down the line, the Arcane Anvil levels up scrolls, upgrades armor and spell books, and imbues weapons with spells.[8][9]

A later goal, but worth planning for
How does Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks work?
9 parts
Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks is an RPG-style spellcasting mod. Its core isn't pipes and power. It's a handful of magical crafting stations that turn loot into spells, spell books and upgraded gear. Once you know what each station does, the whole progression clicks into place.[1][4][8][9]
Scrolls: the building block of everything
Every spell starts life on a scroll. You can find scrolls in chests, loot them from mobs, or craft them. Each scroll holds one spell at a specific level, a lot like an enchanted book holds an enchantment.[5]
You can read a scroll directly to cast its spell. That ignores mana cost and cooldown, but the scroll is used up. The real value of a scroll is inscribing it into a spell book so you can cast the spell over and over. So hold on to your early finds instead of burning them.[4][5]
Inscription Table: loading your spell book
The Inscription Table is how you put spells into a spell book. You place a scroll in it and the spell gets inscribed into the book. You can pull the scroll back out later, but that uninscribes the spell, so the book loses it.[4]
Spell books come in tiers. Each craftable tier adds more spell slots and often extra bonuses, so upgrading your book directly raises how many spells you can carry. Beginner spell books use basic materials. Intermediate books use nether resources. The best craftable books use late game materials such as Dragonskin, which drops from the Ender Dragon.[4][8][9][12]
Unique spell books are rare mob drops that come with spells already inscribed. Those spells are locked, so you can't remove or edit them. You can still improve them, which the Arcane Anvil section covers below.[14]
Scroll Forge: crafting your own spells
Once you reach nether-level resources, the Scroll Forge opens up a whole new way to get stronger. It crafts scrolls from ink, paper and a focus. The ink decides the rarity, and therefore the spell's level. The focus decides which school of magic the spell comes from.[8]
Ink and spell rarity
Ink comes in a ladder of rarities, from common up to legendary. Each ink can only craft spells whose lowest level is at or below that ink's rarity. If a spell starts above common, common ink simply can't make it.[11][13]
- Common ink is the most common type and crafts the lowest level of spells.[13]
- The next ink up is less common and crafts slightly more powerful spells.[13]
- Rare ink turns up regularly in magic treasure chests and from spellcasting mobs.[13]
- Epic and higher inks are best farmed from magic treasure and from killing spellcasting mobs.[13]
- Legendary ink is the rarest and crafts the most powerful spells. Some spells have several legendary levels, and you need the Arcane Anvil to reach those.[11][13]
Schools of magic and their foci
Every spell belongs to a school, and each school has a Focus item. The focus is what you feed the Scroll Forge to pick the school. Each school also has matching gear that boosts it. You can go all in on one school or mix and match.[6][8]
- Fire uses a Blaze Rod as its focus and is all about damage and damage over time.[6]
- Ice uses Frozen Bones and focuses on damage and crowd control.[6]
- Lightning uses a Bottle o' Lightning and focuses on concentrated damage.[6]
- Holy uses the Divine Pearl and covers support, healing and buffing allies.[6]
- Ender uses an Ender Pearl, with spells ranging from damage to utility to mobility.[6]
- Blood uses a Blood Vial and leans into necromancy, wither and blood magic, with damage spells that buff the caster.[6]
- Evocation uses an Emerald and covers trickery and conjuration, with the broadest mix of offensive, defensive and utility spells.[6]
- Nature uses a Poisonous Potato and is built around debuffing enemies, then finishing them off with damage.[6]
Eldritch is the odd one out. You can't craft or cast Eldritch spells at first. Instead, you find shreds of ancient manuscripts around the world and restore them with an echo shard. Using a restored manuscript teaches you one Eldritch spell, which lets you craft and cast it. After that, the Echo Shard works as the Eldritch focus.[6][11]
Arcane Anvil: the late game powerhouse
The Arcane Anvil is the most powerful crafting station in the mod and the engine of late game progression. It levels up scrolls, upgrades armor and spell books, and imbues weapons with spells.[9][11]

- To level up a scroll, combine it with ink of the rarity that matches the spell's next level.[5]
- To improve a locked spell in a unique spell book, combine the book with a higher-level scroll of that same spell. This raises the locked spell's level.[14]
- By default, you can upgrade any armor and any spell book here with upgrade orbs.[9]
Runes and upgrade orbs
Runestones are your mid game rare material. Look for them in magical structures, and note that class mages always drop a rune of their own school. You can also craft school runes from a Blank Runestone. Runes go into the stronger school armor and into upgrade orbs.[8][9][15]

Upgrades are the final stage of progression. An attribute-specific upgrade orb is made from an Empty Upgrade Orb plus 8 runes of the attribute you want. For example, Blood Rune runes make a Blood Upgrade Orb. You then apply the orb to your gear at the Arcane Anvil.[9][15]

Alchemist Cauldron: recycling scrolls
Got a pile of scrolls you'll never use? The Alchemist Cauldron lets you recycle them into something more useful. It can also cook mobs for blood, the same way a campfire-heated vanilla cauldron does.[5][11]

Casting implements
To cast your active spell, you right-click with a casting implement. Most implements also give passive bonuses, which suits a dedicated wizard playstyle. A craftable option is the Artificer's Cane. Stronger staves come from exploring, and one ancient scepter can only be taken from its undead owner.[7][11][15]

Unverified The available sources don't describe any power, fluid or item-handling systems for this mod. They also don't cover automating its stations, for example with hoppers or pipes. Whether that works in All the Mods 10 8.1 is unconfirmed.
How do you progress through Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks?
6 parts
Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks isn't a mod you can brute-force with iron and redstone. You'll progress by adventuring, raiding magic structures and fighting mages. The in-game guide splits the journey into early, mid and late game, and the pack's quest chapter follows the same path. It opens with "Iron's Spells 'N Spellbooks" quest, which asks for Arcane Essence.[3][4][8][9]
Early game: loot, scrolls and your first book
Early on, exploring and looting is everything. Magic structures are scattered across the world, and each one is guarded by a powerful mage who won't be happy to see you. Scrolls are your first taste of magic. You can consume a scroll to cast its spell once, but it's better to save it for a spell book, where you can cast it again and again.[4][5]
To put scrolls into a book, you need the Inscription Table (a quest in "Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks"). You can craft one or find it in most Iron's Spells structures. Put the book in the Book Slot and the scroll below it. Taking a scroll back out removes the spell from the book.[3][4]
Your first book will probably be the Flimsy Journal. It's the cheapest spell book, and it holds 5 spells.[3]
For armor, the Wandering Magician Robe set is an upgrade to leather armor that adds Arcane Essence. It gives more armor points and a small mana boost.[3][4]
Spell book tiers
- Flimsy Journal: 5 spell slots, the cheapest book.[3]
- Ironbound Tome: one more slot than the Flimsy Journal.[3]
- Rotten Spell Book: found in most chests, holds 8 spells but gives you less Spell Resistance.[3]
- Apprentice's Spell Book: 8 slots, needs Hogskin, which Hoglins drop.[3][8]
- Enchanted Spell Book: 10 slots and a huge mana boost.[3]
- Druidic Tome and Vampiric Spell Book: 10 slots each, with a Nature boost and a Blood boost respectively.[3]
- Ancient Codex, Dragonskin Spell Book and Frostbranded Book: 12 slots each, the top of the crafted books.[3]

Mid game: Scroll Forge, inks and Arcane Cloth
Once you have Nether resources, you unlock the Scroll Forge (a quest in "Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks"). You craft scrolls in it from ink, paper and a school focus item. The ink sets the rarity, and with it the level. The focus decides the spell's school.[3][8]
Ink comes in five tiers, and each tier has its own quest: "Common Ink" quest, "Uncommon Ink" quest, "Rare Ink" quest, "Epic Ink" quest and "Legendary Ink" quest. An ink can only craft a spell if the spell's lowest level is at that rarity or below. Rare, Epic and Legendary ink show up in magic treasure chests and drop from spellcasting mobs.[3][13]
The Alchemist Cauldron lets you brew ink up to the next rarity. It also has half a chance to recover ink from a scroll.[3][15]

This is also when you switch to Arcane Cloth armor. "Wizard Gear" quest is the default mage armor. Every other outfit is crafted from it, either directly or from something crafted from it. It gives a big Max Mana boost, the same armor points as Diamond, and a Spell Power boost.[3][8]
Schools, runes and outfits
The "Classes" quest quest introduces runes, which unlock the 8 classes (one of them is secret). You get a Blank Runestone by killing the Dead King or by wiping an inscribed rune with a Shriving Stone. Class mages always drop a rune of their own school.[3][8]
Each school outfit quest needs both the school's quest and Wizard Gear first. The outfits are crafted on top of Wizard Gear pieces, and every piece has both a crafting table and a smithing table recipe.[3][15]

The "Getting Mithril" quest quest points you to Mithril ore, which spawns from around Y -40 down to bedrock and needs a Netherite Pickaxe. Mining it drops 1 Raw Mithril unless you use Fortune. Smelting raw mithril gives Mithril Scraps, and 4 scraps combine into a Mithril Ingot. Mithril leads into Weapon Parts, which several weapons need.[3]
Upgrades are the final stage of progression. Any armor piece or spell book can be upgraded, and each school has its own Upgrade Orb crafted from an Empty Upgrade Orb and that school's runes.[3][9][15]

ATM Star requirements
Iron's Spells is part of the ATM Star path in Chapter 3. "Wither Skull Scroll" quest needs a Wither Skull scroll at Level 10 and Legendary rarity, made with a Blood Vial in the Scroll Forge. "Lightning Upgrade Orb" quest needs a Lightning Upgrade Orb. Lightning Runes don't drop from any mob, so you have to craft them with Bottle o' Lightning, which you get by using an empty bottle on a Charged Creeper.[10]
How does Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks work with other mods?
5 parts
Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks isn't an island in All the Mods 10. The pack adds or tweaks a bunch of recipes that pull your magic items into other mods, and a few that let other mods feed your spellcasting. Here's where those crossovers show up.[15]
Blood from EvilCraft
Blood Vial is the Focus for Blood school spells, so you'll want a steady supply. Normally you get Blood by cooking mobs (or yourself!) in the Alchemist Cauldron, as the a quest in "Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks" quest explains.[3][6]
The pack gives you a much friendlier option: it adds Alchemist Cauldron recipes that use EvilCraft's Blood. One fills a Glass Bottle to make a Blood Vial. The other soaks Hogskin to make Bloody Vellum. If you already run an EvilCraft blood setup, this saves you a lot of mob cooking.[15]

Arcane Essence from Productive Bees
Normally, getting lots of Arcane Essence means raiding magical structures. Productive Bees gives you a way to farm it instead. A crafting recipe uses Arcane Essence to turn a bee into an Arcane Essence bee, and a centrifuge recipe outputs Arcane Essence along with Wax. The pack has changed both recipes, so check the in-game versions below.[8][15]

Arcane Essence is also what makes the Guide Book in this pack. The pack changed that recipe, so a single craft gets you the mod's in-game guide.[15]
Mithril through Theurgy
Mining Mithril is a real commitment. The "Getting Mithril" quest quest points out that it spawns from around Y -40 down to bedrock and needs a Netherite Pickaxe. The pack adds a Theurgy incubation recipe that produces a Mithril Ingot directly, using Mercury Shard and Alchemical Salt Mineral among its inputs.[3][15]
Pack-added Theurgy incubation recipe
Taking your Ancient Codex further
The Ancient Codex is already a big goal on its own. The "Ancient Codex" quest quest calls it hard to craft and highlights its 12 Spell Slots. It doesn't have to be the end, though: a smithing recipe upgrades it into the Allthemodium Spell Book using Allthemodium.[3][15]

Endgame crafting
Two of the pack's big crafting projects need Iron's Spells items. The Improbable Probability Device needs a Lightning Upgrade Orb alongside parts from several tech mods. So don't skip the "Lightning Upgrade Orb" quest quest if you're heading for the endgame.[15]

Which All the Mods 10 quests use Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks?
5 parts
Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks has its own quest chapter in All the Mods 10. It opens with "Iron's Spells 'N Spellbooks" quest, which only asks for Arcane Essence. The quest also sets expectations: you can't just craft everything from iron and redstone, so you'll need to go out, explore and fight for your magic.[3]
The core blocks and Ink
Next come four quests for the mod's key blocks. Each one asks for the block and explains what it does, so they work as a mini tutorial.[3]
- a quest in "Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks" asks for the Inscription Table, which adds Scrolls to Spell Books and removes them. You can craft it or find it in most Iron's Spells structures.[3]
- a quest in "Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks" asks for the Arcane Anvil. It levels up spells that share the same Ink, puts Scrolls into weapons, and applies Upgrade Orbs to rings, weapons and gear.[3]
- a quest in "Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks" asks for the Scroll Forge, where Ink, Paper and a school item such as a Blaze Rod become a Scroll of your chosen spell.[3]
- a quest in "Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks" asks for the Alchemist Cauldron. It makes Blood and potions, can recover Ink from Scrolls, and combines 4 Ink of one rarity into the next rarity.[3]
Five quests then track each Ink rarity: "Common Ink" quest, "Uncommon Ink" quest, "Rare Ink" quest, "Epic Ink" quest and "Legendary Ink" quest.[3]
Classes, Runes and Upgrade Orbs
"Classes" quest asks for a Blank Runestone. You get one by killing the Dead King or by wiping an Inscribed Rune with a Shriving Stone. This quest unlocks one quest per school: "Lightning" quest, "Fire" quest, "Ice" quest, "Ender" quest, "Holy" quest, "Blood" quest, "Evocation" quest and "Nature" quest. Each one asks for that school's Rune and names its Focus Material.[3]
Every school quest leads to that school's Upgrade Orb quest, for example "Fire Upgrade Orb" quest after Fire or "Ice Upgrade Orb" quest after Ice.[3]
The secret last class comes through "Into the Ancient City" quest. That quest asks for an Ancient Knowledge Fragment from Ancient City chests and unlocks "Eldritch" quest, which asks for the Eldritch Manuscript.[3]
Spell Books
A group of spell book quests all unlock after a quest called "SpellBooks!". They range from the 5-slot "Flimsy Journal" quest and the lootable 8-slot "Rotten Spell Book" quest up to the 12-slot "Ancient Codex" quest, "Dragonskin Spell Book" quest and "Frostbanded Spellbook" quest.[3]
Some books are drops or trades rather than crafts. "Necronomicom" quest needs the Dead King, "Blaze Instruction Manual" quest is a rare Blaze drop, and "Villager Bible" quest involves an Evoker Fort Research Book and a Village Priest. "Druidic Tome" quest follows the Rotten Spell Book quest, because you need a Rotten Spell Book to craft it.[3]
Mithril and weapons
"Getting Mithril" quest asks for Raw Mithril. It spawns from around Y -40 down to bedrock and needs a Netherite Pickaxe to mine. That quest unlocks "Weapon Parts" quest, which in turn opens "Amethyst Rapier" quest, "Spellbreaker" quest and "Boreal Blade" quest. "Magehunter" quest requires both Getting Mithril and an Evoker Fort quest, and "Ice Spider" quest asks for an Icy Fang.[3]
A set of staff quests unlocks after a quest called "Staffs, Rods, and Canes": "Graybeard Staff" quest, "Artificer's Cane" quest, "Ice Staff" quest, "Rod o' Lightning" quest, "Pyrium Staff" quest and "The Blood Staff" quest. "Pyrium" quest follows a Citadel quest.[3]
Armor
"Armor" quest asks for Arcane Cloth and unlocks "Wizard Gear" quest, "Wandering Magician Outfit" quest and "Scarecrow Outfit" quest. Any single piece completes those three quests. Wizard Gear then leads to "Netherite Battlemage Armor" quest.[3]
The class outfits, such as "Pyromancer Outfit" quest and "Cryomancer Outfit" quest, need both their school quest and Wizard Gear. Unlike the earlier armor quests, they ask for all four pieces.[3]
The mod also shows up outside its own chapter. The Basic Armor chapter includes its own "Pyromancer Outfit" quest quest.[16]
Unverified The rest of the Iron's Spells chapter, the other Iron's Spells outfit quests in the Basic Armor chapter, and any tie-in with the Chapter 3: The ATM Star chapter could not be confirmed from the available quest data.
