What is Productive Trees?
1 part
Productive Trees turns tree farming into a breeding game. Put one tree next to another tree near some bees, and the bees pollinate the leaves to create brand new tree species. The mod has 159 trees in total, and JEI is where you look up which trees breed together.[1][2]
There are two ways to breed. With bees, keep the leaves of both parent trees within 4 blocks of the nest or hive, and make sure the bees have flowers nearby. Each trip from a flower back to the hive triggers a pollination attempt on a nearby leaf. You can also do it by hand: run leaves through a pollen sifter to get Pollen, then use it on a leaf to pollinate it yourself.[1][3][4]
Productive Trees works closely with Productive Bees. The pack's quests point you to bees for breeding trees, and the Pollen Sieve Upgrade lets bees in an advanced beehive collect pollen from nearby trees.[5][6]
The mod does more than breeding. The Stripper strips logs automatically using axes you put in the machine. The Sawmill cuts logs into sawdust and gives you more planks than crafting would, and the sawdust can be made into paper. You can also extract maple sap from Sugar Maple trees and turn it into maple syrup.[7][8][9]
Where it fits in the pack
Productive Trees has its own quest chapter. It walks you through early crosses between vanilla trees, special saplings you find in structure loot such as Shipwreck and End City chests, and the Stripper and Sawmill.[7]
It's also on the ATM Star path. In Chapter 3: The ATM Star, the "Productive Trees" quest quest asks for Pollen and leads into "Socotra Dragon Sapling" quest, which needs a Socotra Dragon Sapling. That sapling sits at the end of a long breeding chain. You start by breeding Jungle with Dark Oak for Teak, then work through Balsa, Cocobolo and Wenge. Get your bees and trees going before you need it.[5]
Unverified The mod supports extracting extra tree products with the Tree Tap mod, but the sources don't confirm that Tree Tap is installed in this pack.
How do you get started with Productive Trees?
5 parts
Productive Trees boils down to one simple idea: put one tree next to another tree near some bees, and you get new tree species. Keep in mind that the mod is in beta and not feature complete, and the way trees look when grown is still under development.[1]
Step 1: Breed your first new tree
You don't need to craft anything for your first breed, just vanilla trees and a bee nest or hive. JEI shows which trees breed together, so check it whenever you're planning a pairing.[1][2]
- Plant the two trees you want to breed so their leaves are within 4 blocks of the bee nest or hive.[1]
- Make sure the bees have flowers nearby. Every trip a bee makes from a flower back to the hive triggers a pollination attempt on a nearby leaf.[1]
- Use a spyglass to spot which leaves have been pollinated.[1]
The pack's quest chapter gives you good first targets that only need vanilla trees. Oak and Birch lead to a Beech Sapling (a quest in "Productive Trees") or a Silver Lime Sapling (a quest in "Productive Trees"). Spruce and Birch give a European Larch Sapling (a quest in "Productive Trees"), Jungle and Cherry give a Cacao Sapling (a quest in "Productive Trees"), and Dark Oak and Jungle give a Teak Sapling (a quest in "Productive Trees"). Most later breeds in the chapter build on these, so they're worth getting early.[7]
Step 2: Pollinate by hand
If you want more control than bees give you, collect leaves and run them through a pollen sifter to extract pollen. Use that pollen on a leaf to pollinate it manually and get a new species. JEI tells you which pollen goes on which leaves.[1][3][4][10]
Step 3: Your first machines
Once you have logs coming in, grab the Sawmill ("Sawing" quest). It cuts logs into Sawdust plus more planks than you'd get from crafting, and the Sawdust can be made into Paper. Fustic Logs also give you Fustic, and Brazilwood and Logwood Logs also give you Haematoxylin.[7]
The Stripper ("Stripping" quest) strips logs automatically, but it needs axes put into the machine to operate. Each time upgrade you add increases the number of items it processes per operation by 4.[7][8][10]
Unverified The crafting recipes for the Sawmill, Stripper and pollen sifter were not included in the sources for this guide. Look them up in JEI in your game. This site does hold All the Mods 10's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
Step 4: Scale up with bees
The hive's base working range is 4 blocks, and each range upgrade increases it by 2 blocks. That gives you room to fit more trees around one hive.[1]
If you're also playing with Productive Bees, install a Pollen Sieve Upgrade in an advanced beehive and some of the pollen your bees collect from nearby trees gets sifted and deposited in the hive. Range upgrades affect its collection area, but installing more than one sieve upgrade won't increase the yield.[6][10]
Step 5: Grow trees in Botany Pots
In this pack, Productive Trees saplings can be grown in Botany Pots, and the pack has changed these recipes. A pot gives you the tree's leaves, logs and sapling back, plus fruit or nuts for trees that have them, like Beechnut from a Beech.[11]

How does Productive Trees work?
7 parts
Productive Trees is all about breeding new tree species, then processing what those trees give you. The mod has 159 trees, and instead of memorizing breeding pairs you'll want JEI open: it shows which trees breed together and every other recipe in the mod.[2]
Breeding trees with bees
The basic idea is simple: put one tree next to another tree near some bees, and let nature do the work. The bees do the pollinating for you, and a pollinated leaf is how you get a new tree species.[1]
There are a few conditions to get right. The leaves of both trees you want to breed need to be within 4 blocks of the bee nest or hive, and the bees need flowers nearby. Every time a bee flies back to the hive from a flower, it triggers a pollination attempt on a nearby leaf.[1]
- Plant the two trees you want to cross so their leaves sit within 4 blocks of your bee nest or hive.[1]
- Make sure there are flowers near the hive, so the bees keep making trips.[1]
- Wait for the bees to pollinate leaves, then use a spyglass to spot which leaves have been pollinated.[1]
The hive's working area can be expanded. The base range is 4 blocks, and each range upgrade adds 2 blocks. The in-game guide also notes that the hive can be simulated, but it doesn't explain what that involves.[1]
Pollen and manual pollination
If you want more control than letting bees pollinate at random, work with pollen directly. You use pollen on a leaf to pollinate it by hand and create a new tree species. It doesn't matter whether the pollen came from bees or from a pollen sifter; both work the same way. Check JEI to see which trees breed together, so you know which pollen goes on which leaves.[1][4][10]
There are two ways to get pollen. The first is to collect leaves and run them through a pollen sifter, a machine that extracts pollen from leaves. The second is to let bees gather it for you with the Pollen Sieve Upgrade.[1][3][6]
Pollen Sieve Upgrade
The Pollen Sieve Upgrade goes into an advanced beehive from Productive Bees. With it installed, the bees collect pollen from nearby trees. Some of the pollen they collect is sifted and deposited straight into the hive, ready for you to use.[6][10]
The collection area follows the hive's range upgrades, so expanding the hive also expands pollen collection. Don't bother stacking sieves, though: installing more than one sieve upgrade does not increase the yield.[6]
The mod's text also mentions an allergy bee that puts in extra effort to collect pollen, so your allergies don't act up while you work with trees.[10]
Processing machines
The mod has a few machines for processing what your trees produce. The pollen sifter extracts pollen from leaves, as covered above.[3]
The Stripper takes the bark off wood, leaving you with stripped logs. It needs an axe to operate, so keep one in it.[8]
There is also a sawmill that accepts speed upgrades, but the provided material doesn't describe what it produces.[10]
Machine upgrades
The pollen sifter, sawmill and Stripper all accept time upgrades. Installing multiple upgrades gives a bigger time decrease. On the pollen sifter and sawmill, the upgrades make processing faster.[10]
On the Stripper, the upgrade works a bit differently: each one increases the number of items processed per operation by 4.[10]
Each of these machines also has a second-tier time upgrade, which the mod simply describes as twice as good as the first one.[10]
Unverified The provided material doesn't cover whether these machines need power, or how they handle item input and output for automation such as pipes or hoppers. Check the machines in-game or in JEI before planning an automated setup. This site does hold All the Mods 10's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
Sap and Tree Tap compatibility
Productive Trees works with the Tree Tap mod, which lets you extract some additional tree products. The in-game guide has pages on Maple Sap, which comes from Sugar Maple trees and makes Maple Syrup, and on Date Palm, whose trunks it calls great and juicy.[9][12][13]
Unverified It isn't confirmed whether Tree Tap is included in All the Mods 10 8.1, or exactly how Maple Sap and Date Palm juice are extracted in this pack.
Pack changes: wood bookshelves
Each wood type has its own bookshelf, such as the Alder Bookshelf made with Alder Planks. All the Mods 10 8.1 changes the bookshelf crafting recipes, so check the in-pack recipe rather than relying on the mod's default.[11]

How do you progress through Productive Trees?
7 parts
In All the Mods 10 the Productive Trees quest chapter is one big family tree. Everything branches off the "Productive Trees" quest quest. Almost every quest asks you to get a new sapling, and its subtitle names the two parent trees you need to cross. Think of the tiers as layers of that tree: vanilla crosses first, then loot saplings, then deeper hybrids that need earlier results as parents.[7]
How breeding works
The basic loop is simple: put one tree next to another near some bees. The leaves of both trees must be within 4 blocks of the bee nest or hive, and the bees need flowers nearby. Each trip from a flower back to the hive triggers a pollination attempt on a nearby leaf. A spyglass helps you spot which leaves have been pollinated.[1]
If you'd rather do it by hand, collect leaves and run them through a pollen sifter to extract pollen. Then use that pollen on a leaf to pollinate it and get a new tree species. Pollen collected by bees works the same way.[1][3][4]
First tier: vanilla crosses
These quests unlock right after the chapter's starting quest and only need vanilla trees as parents:[7]
- European Larch Sapling from Spruce and Birch.[7]
- Beech Sapling and Silver Lime Sapling, both from Oak and Birch.[7]
- Cacao Sapling from Jungle and Cherry.[7]
- Teak Sapling from Dark Oak and Jungle.[7]
- Red Delicious Apple Sapling from Cherry and Oak or Dark Oak.[7]
Loot saplings
The special trees can't be bred from vanilla trees. You have to find them out in the world:[7]
- Blue Yonder Sapling: chests in Shipwrecks.[7]
- Firecracker Sapling: chests in Ancient Cities.[7]
- Black Ember Sapling: chests in Bastions.[7]
- Flickering Sun Sapling: chests in Desert Pyramids.[7]
- Soul Tree Sapling: chests in End Cities.[7]
- Brown Amber Sapling: Suspicious Sand and Gravel in Cold Ocean Ruins.[7]
Mid tiers: the main branches
- Conifers: European Larch plus Spruce gives Bull Pine Sapling and Yew Sapling. Bull Pine then leads to Sequoia Sapling, Lawson Cypress Sapling, Loblolly Pine Sapling and Western Hemlock Sapling. Alder plus European Larch gives Balsam Fir Sapling, and Balsam Fir plus Bull Pine gives Silver Fir Sapling, the parent of Cedar Sapling and Douglas Fir Sapling.[7]
- Beech line: Beech plus Birch gives Alder Sapling and Pecan Sapling. Beech plus Cacao gives Brazil Nut Sapling. Beech plus Alder gives Aspen Sapling, which opens up Hazel Sapling, Elderberry Sapling and Rowan Sapling.[7]
- Tropical hardwoods: Teak crosses into Balsa Sapling, Cashew Sapling, Ipe Sapling and Kapok Sapling. Kapok plus Dark Oak gives Ceylon Ebony Sapling, which leads to Yellow Meranti Sapling and then Mahogany Sapling. Mahogany is the gateway to Rosewood Sapling, Brazilwood Sapling, Old Fustic Sapling and Greenheart Sapling.[7]
- Silver Lime line: Silver Lime crosses into Wild Cherry Sapling, Dogwood Sapling, Walnut Sapling, White Willow Sapling and Ash Sapling. Black Locust Sapling needs both Balsa and Silver Lime.[7]
- Apples: Red Delicious Apple leads to Prairie Crabapple Sapling, Sand Pear Sapling, Sweet Crabapple Sapling and Granny Smith Apple Sapling. Granny Smith then leads on to Golden Delicious Apple Sapling and Beliy Naliv Apple Sapling.[7]
Late tier: loot sapling hybrids
Crossing the loot saplings with each other unlocks the flashiest trees. Soul Tree is a parent for several of them, so an End City raid pays off here.[7]
- Water Wonder Sapling from Blue Yonder and Soul Tree.[7]
- Cave Dweller Sapling from Black Ember and Soul Tree. Cross it with Soul Tree again for Foggy Blast Sapling.[7]
- Purple Spiral Sapling from Blue Yonder and Firecracker.[7]
- Rippling Willow Sapling from Blue Yonder and Flickering Sun. It leads to Slimy Delight Sapling (with Soul Tree) and Time Traveller Sapling (with Blue Yonder).[7]
- Sparkle Cherry Sapling from Firecracker and Soul Tree.[7]
- Thunder Bolt Sapling from Firecracker and Flickering Sun.[7]
- Night Fuchsia Sapling from Purple Spiral and Sparkle Cherry.[7]
Luck-gated trees
Some quests list Luck as one of the parents and also depend on an extra quest that isn't part of this chapter's listing. These include Copper Beech Sapling, the Ipe chain (White Ipe Sapling, then Pink Ipe Sapling, then Purple Ipe Sapling) and the crepe myrtles. For the crepe myrtles, Purple Crepe Myrtle leads to Red Crepe Myrtle Sapling, which leads to Tuscarora Crepe Myrtle Sapling.[7]
Unverified What the Luck requirement means in practice, and what the extra prerequisite quest asks for, can't be confirmed here.
Automating your trees
Each tree has a Botany Pots crop recipe, and the pack has changed these recipes. A potted sapling gives its leaves, log and sapling back, and fruit trees also give their fruit. For example, Beech also gives Beechnut. The recipe below shows the in-pack version.[11]
Crop (botanypots)

Beech is one of the first-tier trees
The "Stripping" quest quest asks for the Stripper. It strips logs automatically, using axes you put in the machine.[7][8]
The "Sawing" quest quest asks for the Sawmill. It cuts logs into Sawdust plus more Planks than crafting gives you, and Sawdust can be made into Paper. Fustic Logs also give Fustic, and Brazilwood and Logwood Logs also give Haematoxylin.[7]
How does Productive Trees work with other mods?
4 parts
Productive Trees fits into All the Mods 10 in a few ways. The pack adds its own recipes that pull modded wood into the Sawmill. Two of the fanciest saplings go into big endgame crafts. The mod's pollination system also works hand in hand with Productive Bees.[6][11]
The Sawmill handles modded logs
The Sawmill cuts logs into Sawdust and gives you more planks than a crafting table would. Sawdust can also be turned into paper, so nothing goes to waste.[7]
The best part is that the pack doesn't limit this to vanilla wood. It adds Sawmill recipes for logs from a whole bunch of other mods, so you can run your modded wood through the same machine.[11]
- Allthemodium: Ancient, Demonic and Soul logs become Ancient Planks, Demonic Planks and Soul Planks.[11]
- Biomes We've Gone: every wood type is covered, from Aspen Planks to Zelkova Planks, including Rainbow Eucalyptus Planks and both enchanted woods.[11]
- Regions Unexplored: a long list of woods such as Redwood Planks, Socotra Planks and the bioshroom stems, for example Pink Bioshroom Planks.[11]
- Eternal Starlight: woods like Lunar Planks, Torreya Planks and Cradlewood Planks.[11]
- Magic mods: Archwood Planks, Otherplanks, Undead Planks and the Forbidden Arcanus woods, including Edelwood Planks and Aurum Planks.[11]
- Everything else: Glacian Planks, Echo Planks, Bloom Planks, Dreadwood Planks, Menril Planks, Netherwood Planks and Canopy Planks.[11]

Saplings in endgame crafts
Some of the trees you breed matter well beyond your tree farm. The pack adds a recipe for the All the Tweaks Dragon Soul that needs a Socotra Dragon Sapling. That sapling sits alongside heavy hitters like a Block of Piglich Hearts, a Abyssal Sacrifice and an Occultism Soul Gem.[11]

The pack's Magical Soil recipe also asks for a Moonlight Magic Crepe Myrtle Sapling. It combines the sapling with Mystical Agriculture gear like the Awakened Supremium Growth Accelerator and compressed blocks such as Nether Star Block 2x.[11]

Unverified The quest chapter that contains the Socotra Dragon and Moonlight Magic Crepe Myrtle sapling quests, and how they fit into the ATM Star progression, could not be confirmed from the available quest data.
Productive Bees pollination
Productive Trees is built around bees. Put two trees next to each other near some bees, and every trip a bee makes from a flower back to the hive triggers a pollination attempt on a nearby leaf. The leaves of both trees need to be within 4 blocks of the nest or hive, and the bees need flowers nearby.[1]
The hive can be simulated, and range upgrades increase the working area by 2 blocks per upgrade on top of the base range of 4.[1]
If you want the pollen itself, install a Pollen Sieve Upgrade in an advanced beehive from Productive Bees. The bees will then collect Pollen from nearby trees. Range upgrades affect the collection area, but adding more than one sieve upgrade won't increase the yield. You can use that pollen on leaves by hand to create new tree species, and JEI shows which pairings to use.[4][6]
Tree Tap
The mod's guide mentions compatibility with the Tree Tap mod, which lets you extract some additional tree products. Examples include sap from Sugar Maple trees for Maple Syrup and juice from Date Palm trunks.[9][12][13]
Unverified The in-game guide page for Tree Tap reports that Tree Tap is not installed, so it's unconfirmed whether tree tapping works in All the Mods 10 8.1.
Which All the Mods 10 quests use Productive Trees?
5 parts
Productive Trees shows up in two quest chapters. You meet it first in Chapter 3: The ATM Star, and it also has its own Productive Trees chapter with the full sapling breeding tree.[5][7]
Chapter 3: The ATM Star
Your starting point is "Productive Trees" quest, which asks for Pollen. The quest text explains the key idea: you breed trees using bees from Productive Bees, not with wheat.[5]
After that comes "Socotra Dragon Sapling" quest, which asks for a Socotra Dragon Sapling. In the Productive Trees chapter, that sapling is its own quest, a quest in "Productive Trees". It's labelled Wenge + Cocobolo and comes after the Wenge quest a quest in "Productive Trees", so expect a long breeding chain first.[5][7]
The Productive Trees chapter
Almost every quest here asks you for one sapling, and its subtitle names a pair of trees, like Spruce + Birch for the European Larch Sapling. Each quest opens up once you have the saplings it builds on, so the chapter works like a family tree.[7]
The entry quests unlock after a quest named Productive Trees, and they start from vanilla trees:[5][7]
- a quest in "Productive Trees" asks for a European Larch Sapling (Spruce + Birch).[7]
- a quest in "Productive Trees" asks for a Beech Sapling (Oak + Birch).[7]
- a quest in "Productive Trees" asks for a Cacao Sapling (Jungle + Cherry).[7]
- a quest in "Productive Trees" asks for a Teak Sapling (Dark Oak + Jungle).[7]
- a quest in "Productive Trees" asks for a Silver Lime Sapling (Oak + Birch).[7]
- a quest in "Productive Trees" asks for a Red Delicious Apple Sapling (Cherry + Oak/Dark Oak).[7]
Loot saplings
Some saplings aren't bred at all. You find them while exploring:[7]
- a quest in "Productive Trees": Blue Yonder Sapling from Shipwreck chests.[7]
- a quest in "Productive Trees": Firecracker Sapling from Ancient City chests.[7]
- a quest in "Productive Trees": Black Ember Sapling from Bastion chests.[7]
- a quest in "Productive Trees": Flickering Sun Sapling from Desert Pyramid chests.[7]
- a quest in "Productive Trees": Soul Tree Sapling from End City chests.[7]
- a quest in "Productive Trees": Brown Amber Sapling from Suspicious Sand and Gravel in Cold Ocean Ruins.[7]
Crossing these loot trees unlocks the more exotic quests. Examples are a quest in "Productive Trees" (Blue Yonder + Soul Tree), a quest in "Productive Trees" and a quest in "Productive Trees". The loot line ends with a quest in "Productive Trees" and a quest in "Productive Trees".[7]
Machine quests
"Stripping" quest asks for the Stripper. This machine strips Logs automatically using Axes you put in it.[7]
"Sawing" quest asks for the Sawmill. It cuts Logs into Sawdust plus more Planks than crafting gives you, and Sawdust can be made into Paper. Fustic Logs also give Fustic, and Brazilwood and Logwood Logs also give Haematoxylin.[7]
Example chain: citrus
Want to see how deep the chapter goes? Here's the path to oranges:[7]
- Get the Silver Lime from a quest in "Productive Trees", then the White Willow from a quest in "Productive Trees".[7]
- Breed Sour Cherry in a quest in "Productive Trees", then Citron in a quest in "Productive Trees".[7]
- Continue to Pomelo in a quest in "Productive Trees" and Mandarin in a quest in "Productive Trees".[7]
- Finish with Orange in a quest in "Productive Trees", which leads to Grapefruit in a quest in "Productive Trees" and Mango in a quest in "Productive Trees".[7]
- Mango plus Star Anise from a quest in "Productive Trees" unlocks the Star Fruit quest, a quest in "Productive Trees".[7]
Unverified Several quests pair a tree with Luck, such as Copper Beech, the Ipe line and the crepe myrtle line up to "Moonlight Magic Crepe Myrtle Sapling" quest. These quests also need a prerequisite quest from outside this chapter. What Luck means here could not be confirmed.
