What is Ender IO?

2 parts

Ender IO is a full-featured tech mod. It adds machines, conduits, inventory management, armor, tools, weapons and even mobs. This pack ships version 8.2.12-beta of it, so you get the machines and logistics side of the pack's tech progression from this one mod.[1][2]

It's for you if you want to build a real automated base: processing ores, moving items and fluids through conduits, and storing power. Everything runs on Micro Infinity (µI), the mod's own energy. Nearly every machine also needs a capacitor installed before it will turn on, so a Basic Capacitor is one of the first things you'll want.[1][3]

Where it fits in the progression

The pack's Ender IO quest chapter starts with Grains of Infinity. You get them by igniting Bedrock, which has a small chance to drop one, or by sieving Dust. The quest calls them the seed for almost every basic Ender IO recipe.[3]

From there you build the Void Chassis, the base frame for most early and mid-tier machines, and the Alloy Smelter, which the quest calls the heart of early progression. The Alloy Smelter turns out the alloys the rest of the mod depends on: Energetic Alloy Ingot for capacitors, Vibrant Alloy Ingot for better capacitors and late-game machines, and Soularium Ingot for soul-handling machines.[3]

  • Power: the Stirling Generator burns solid fuels like coal or charcoal and is the quest's pick for your very first setup.[3]
  • Processing: the SAG Mill grinds ores, and Grinding Balls in its upgrade slot boost its speed, efficiency and chance to double output.[3]
  • Automation: the Crafter crafts any recipe you set in it once conduits or hoppers feed it the right ingredients.[3]
  • Storage: the Basic Capacitor Bank works like a battery for your base and can recharge tools and armor placed inside it.[3]

The ATM Star path

Ender IO is part of the ATM Star route. In Chapter 4: The ATM Star, one quest asks you to bring an Sentient Ender, and it unlocks after the Soul Binder and Slice'N'Splice quests. Check a quest in "Chapter 4: The ATM Star" in your quest book. The Soul Binder quest in turn follows the Soularium Ingot and Ensouled Chassis quests, so the soul machines are worth reaching early.[3][4]

How do you get started with Ender IO?

3 parts

Ender IO runs on its own energy, Micro Infinity (µI), and nearly all of its early progression goes through one machine, the Alloy Smelter. The pack's quest chapter walks you through a clear order, so here it is step by step.[3]

Step by step

  1. Get some Grains of Infinity ("Grains of Infinity" quest). You obtain them by setting Bedrock or Obsidian on fire, where igniting bedrock has a small chance to drop one, and sieving Dust can drop them too. You only need a handful, because they are the seed for almost every basic Ender IO recipe.[3]
  2. Craft a Basic Capacitor ("Basic Capacitor" quest). Nearly every machine needs a capacitor installed, and without one it won't turn on.[3][5]
  3. Craft a Void Chassis ("Void Chassis" quest), the base frame for most early and mid-tier machines. Almost everything else in the chapter unlocks after it.[3]
  4. Build the Alloy Smelter ("Alloy Smelter" quest). It smelts ores like a furnace and forges alloys such as Dark Steel, and it needs a Basic Capacitor installed before it will run.[3]
  5. Set up power with a Stirling Generator ("Stirling Generator" quest). It burns solid fuels like coal or charcoal to produce µI, which makes it a good first generator.[3]

µI is described in the mod's tooltips as a unit of energy equivalent to FE.[5]

Tip: You will need many Void Chassis as your base grows, so the quest suggests stockpiling Dark Steel Ingots early.[3]

First alloys

Once the Alloy Smelter is running, the quests open up the core alloys: Conductive Alloy, Energetic Alloy, Dark Steel, Vibrant Alloy and Soularium. Dark Steel is one of the most important, since it backs Dark Steel tools, armor and several advanced machines. Conductive Alloy goes into advanced energy conduits and mid-tier machines, and Energetic Alloy is the base of your capacitors.[3]

How does Ender IO work?

5 parts

The project page describes Ender IO as a full-featured tech mod with armor, tools, weapons, machines, conduits, inventory management and mobs. It also says the mod is being rewritten from the ground up for the latest version of Minecraft, so some features will not yet have been ported. Here is what the sources let me confirm about how it works in this pack.[1]

Conduits

Conduits are one of Ender IO's main features. The project page lists these conduit types: Item, Fluid, Energy, Redstone, Applied Energistics 2 ME, Refined Storage Conduit and Mekanism Chemicals. The same page says some features are not yet ported, so read that as the mod's feature list, not as a promise of what works in this pack.[1]

In the world, conduits show up as a single block called Conduit Bundle. The sources here do not describe how you configure its connections, so check the in-game behaviour yourself.[5]

Conduit Facades are a pack-specific detail. The pack changed the painting recipe for the Conduit Facade, so don't assume the mod's default.[6]

Machines and blocks you will meet

The mod's language file names a lot of machine blocks. Among them are the Alloy Smelter, Crafter, Enchanter, Farming Station, Painting Machine, Powered Spawner, Impulse Hopper, Block Detector, Fluid Tank, Pressurized Fluid Tank and Drain. There are also obelisks: Attractor, Aversion, Inhibitor and Relocator. The sources give names only, so I can't tell you what each one does or what it costs in power.[5]

Energy storage comes as the Basic Capacitor Bank and the Advanced Capacitor Bank. There is even an advancement that asks you to build a Capacitor Bank. The Basic Capacitor and Double-Layer Capacitor are separate items, and the Advanced Capacitor Bank is built from the Double-Layer Capacitor.[5][6]

How do you progress through Ender IO?

    7 parts

Progression for Ender IO in this pack follows the Ender IO quest chapter. According to the quests, you start with one odd material, move to a first machine and your first alloys, then branch into capacitors and power storage, soul machines, and Ender-themed travel tools. Some quest descriptions name different ingredients than the in-pack recipes, so trust the recipe blocks below for what you actually craft.[3][6]

    Tier 1: Grains of Infinity

Your first quest is "Grains of Infinity" quest. It says you get Grains of Infinity by setting Bedrock or Obsidian 1x on fire, and that sieving Dust can drop them too. Igniting bedrock only has a small chance to drop them, and the quest says you only need a handful to get started.[3]

The pack changed the bedrock fire-crafting recipe: it gives Grains of Infinity and a Suspicious Seed. A separate fire-crafting recipe for deepslate also produces Grains of Infinity.[6]

    Fire Crafting (enderio)

      Recipe id: enderio:fire_crafting/bedrock_infinity

Tier 2: First machine and alloys

In the quest book, two quests come after the Grains: "Basic Capacitor" quest for the Basic Capacitor and "Void Chassis" quest for the Void Chassis. The quests say nearly every Ender IO machine needs a capacitor installed, and that the Void Chassis is the base frame for most early and mid-tier machines.[3]

The "Alloy Smelter" quest quest comes after the Void Chassis. It calls the Alloy Smelter the heart of early Ender IO progression, says it runs on µI (Micro Infinity), Ender IO's own energy, and notes that at least a Basic Capacitor must be installed before it turns on.[3]

Watch out: The quest descriptions for several alloys and for the Basic Capacitor name different ingredients than the in-pack recipes shown here. Follow the recipe blocks, not the quest wording.[3][6]

      Capacitors and energy storage

The capacitor quests start at the Basic Capacitor and lead to the Double-Layer Capacitor, which the quest says gives machines more energy storage and faster processing. The chain ends at the Octadic Capacitor, which the quest calls the strongest capacitor you can craft.[3]

Energy storage follows the same path. The Basic Capacitor Bank is described as your first battery. The Advanced Capacitor Bank comes next and has two recipes in the pack: a direct one and an upgrade from the Basic bank. The Vibrant Capacitor Bank is described as the final tier and comes after the Advanced Capacitor Bank and Octadic Capacitor quests.[3][6]

      Utility machines

Many quests come after the Void Chassis. The Stirling Generator is described as your first power source and burns solid fuels like coal or charcoal. The SAG Mill grinds ores, and Grinding Balls in its upgrade slot can boost speed, efficiency and the chance to double output. The Crafter, Drain, Impulse Hopper, Painting Machine, Wired Charger, Wireless Charger and VAT have quests here too.[3]

Quests that come after the Alloy Smelter include the Yeta Wrench and conduits quest, the Conduit Facade, and the XP Vacuum and Vacuum Chest.[3]

      Dark Steel branch

After the Dark Steel Ingot quest come the Enchanter, which the quest says applies enchantments to books without the randomness of the Enchanting Table, and the The Ender. The quest says the sword is currently only useful for beheading mobs, at a 7% chance.[3]

      Soul branch

The Soularium Ingot quest comes after the Alloy Smelter. The Soul Chain quest follows, and the quest says the chain is used to upgrade the Void Chassis into the Ensouled Chassis.[3]

      Recipe id: enderio:ensouled_chassis

The quests for the Soul Binder, the Slice'N'Splice and the Powered Spawner come after both the Soularium Ingot and the Ensouled Chassis. The Soul Binder quest says it uses µI and liquid XP, for example to bind a filled Soul Vial to a Broken Spawner. Another quest says the Powered Spawner needs a capacitor and power, and can also fill Soul Vials directly.[3][7]

      Ender tier: travel and levity

The quest for the Ender Crystal comes after the Soul Binder and says it is crafted there using a Soul Vial filled with an Enderman. After it come the Staff of Travelling, which teleports you between Travel Anchor blocks and needs enough XP, and the Staff of Levity, which protects you from fall damage and consumes XP with each use.[3]

The pack also uses the alloy blocks outside Ender IO. For example, the Productive Bees chapter asks for blocks like the Soularium Block and Vibrant Alloy Block, and the pack changed the recipes that decompress compressed versions of these blocks.[6][8]

How does Ender IO work with other mods?

      6 parts

Ender IO doesn't live on its own in this pack. Several other mods plug into it through recipes, and a few of the pack's own crafting recipes ask for Ender IO parts. Here's where the connections show up.[6]

      Mekanism: conduits

The pack adds recipes that turn Mekanism transport blocks into Ender IO's Conduit Bundle. They cover Mekanism's basic, advanced and elite pressurized tubes and its Advanced Thermodynamic Conductor, and the Conduit Binder is part of each of those recipes. There are also upgrade recipes that start from Mekanism's Infused Alloy and Reinforced Alloy.[6]

One of the pack-added Mekanism-to-conduit recipes.

      Oritech: pipes and pumps

Oritech's Fluid Pipe and Pump both have Ender IO compat recipes, and the pack changed them. Both need an Conduit Binder.[6]

Ex Deorum: sieving for Grains of Infinity

Grains of Infinity are the seed for almost every basic Ender IO recipe, and the first quest in the Ender IO chapter tells you that sieving Dust can drop them. The pack changed the Ex Deorum sieve recipes that produce them. They exist for string, flint, iron, golden, diamond and netherite meshes, in both the normal sieve and the compressed sieve.[3][6]

This covers conductive alloy, dark steel, end steel, energetic alloy, pulsating alloy, redstone alloy, soularium and vibrant alloy. An infinity honeycomb gives you Grains of Infinity plus wax. The Soularium Bee quest, "Soularium Bee" quest, is subtitled "Made in Alloy Smelter".[6][8]

Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Ender IO?

        4 parts

Ender IO has its own quest chapter in the pack, and its items also turn up in a handful of other chapters. The main chapter is a tree. You start with Grains of Infinity, then branch out into machines, alloys, capacitors and soul-based tech.[3][4][7][8][9][10]

        The Ender IO chapter

Everything starts with "Grains of Infinity" quest, which asks for Grains of Infinity. Two quests unlock from it: "Basic Capacitor" quest for the Basic Capacitor, and "Void Chassis" quest for the Void Chassis. The Void Chassis quest is the hub for the machines.[3]

        Capacitor line

The power-storage quests run in a clear order. "Basic Capacitor Bank" quest follows the Basic Capacitor. "Double Layer Capacitor" quest needs the Energetic Alloy Ingot and Basic Capacitor quests. "Advanced Capacitor Bank" quest comes after the Basic Capacitor Bank and the Double Layer Capacitor. "Octadic Capacitor" quest comes after the Vibrant Alloy Ingot and the Double Layer Capacitor. The last step is "Vibrant Capacitor Bank" quest, which needs both the Advanced Capacitor Bank and Octadic Capacitor quests.[3]

        Soul line

After "Soularium Ingot" quest you do "Soularium Nugget" quest, then "Soul Chain" quest, then "Ensouled Chassis" quest. The Ensouled Chassis, together with the Soularium Ingot quest, unlocks "Soul Binder" quest, "Powered Spawner" quest and "Slice'N'Splice" quest. The Soul Binder leads to "Ender Crystal" quest, which in turn unlocks "Staff of Travelling" quest and "Staff of Levity" quest. Separately, "Electromagnet" quest needs the Conductive Alloy Ingot and Energetic Alloy Ingot quests.[3]

        Ender IO in other chapters

Which Ender IO config options matter?

Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.11 guide

There's nothing to tune here. The pack ships no config files for this mod, so every option runs at whatever the mod itself defaults to, and nothing has been changed for this pack.[1]

That also means you don't need to touch anything before you start building machines and conduits. Energy, item, fluid, redstone, Applied Energistics 2 ME, Refined Storage and Mekanism chemical conduits are all present in the version bundled here, as are the machines, armor, weapons, tools, enchantments and decorative blocks.[1]

Tip: This is the monolithic build of the mod, so Base, Machines, Conduits and the Inventory Panel all come in a single jar rather than as separate module mods you could add or remove individually.[1]
Watch out: The mod is being rewritten from the ground up for modern Minecraft, so if a feature you remember is missing, it's most likely not ported yet rather than something disabled by a config option in this pack.[1]

Unverified Any in-game config screen this mod may expose has not been checked against the pack, so treat anything you find there as mod defaults rather than pack-tuned values.

What changed in Ender IO between versions?

        4 parts

All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 ships Ender IO 8.2.12-beta. The mod has been in the pack since 1.0 or earlier. There are no pack changelog entries for Ender IO, so everything below comes from the mod's own release notes.[2]

Watch out: The jump from Ender IO 7.x to 8.x is one way. The 8.0 changelogs say save data formats changed and that reverting to 7.x is not supported. The 7.1.8 notes also say a downgrade from 8 to 7 isn't possible without data loss or corruption.[11][12][13]

        7.1.8-alpha

        • Fixed powered machines not updating their state correctly, and ported a fix for loading large conduit networks from 1.20.1.[13]
        • Updated to the beta release of Refined Storage. On 28/08/2025 this build was re-marked as a beta, and the notes recommend it over the incoming 8.0 alphas if you want stability.[13]

        8.0.x-alpha

8.0.3-alpha has the longest list of changes in the 8.0 line. It also includes hotfixes for world loading problems when upgrading conduits from 7.x saves. The headline feature is a rewrite of the conduit block logic and data storage, with more efficient ticking and automated conduit tests.[12][14]

        • Item, energy, fluid and chemical conduits gained a priority option. Energy conduits also got buffed rates and now split energy equally across outputs of the same priority.[12]
        • Redstone conduits gained a "strong power" option, and you can now open the filter GUI from the conduit GUI.[12]
        • Filters got bigger, and an advanced item filter and big item filter variants were added.[12]
        • The primitive alloy smelter was removed, and the Alloy Smelter and SAG Mill no longer need dark steel to craft.[12]
        • New in 8.0.3: the Attractor Obelisk, the Weather Obelisk, the wireless charger with range extending antennas, VAT recipes and a powered spawner capture mode. Enchantments were removed, with a decision not to re-add them at this time.[12]
        • 8.0.4 ported the Conduit Probe to 1.21.1 and added a Soul Vial whitelist tag so modpacks can bypass the blacklist. It also fixed releasing a mob from a stack of vials deleting the rest of the stack.[11]
        • 8.0.7 fixed a hang on load when using the attractor obelisk.[14]

        8.1.1-beta

        • Energy throttling was removed, and machines that send energy now distribute it evenly.[15]
        • Added a whitelist tag for capturing and spawning mobs.[15]
        • Fixed facades with Iris shaders (they are now hidden instead of made transparent), in-place upgrades of item conduits, and a logic problem with travel anchors.[15]

        8.2.x-beta

8.2.3-beta was a small bugfix release that fixed painted blocks not copying data to the placed block correctly. It also moved the 8.2 branch into the main slot.[16]

8.2.12-beta is the version in this pack. It adds tooltips to item, fluid and redstone filter slots, and travel anchors now render full-block icons as blocks instead of items. It also fixes a long list of bugs:[17]

        • Machines could dupe items under specific conditions.[17]
        • Self-feeding energy conduits are now prevented.[17]
        • The powered spawner no longer puts too many items in the output.[17]
        • The farming station no longer blocks when it is out of seeds while other tasks remain.[17]
        • Conduit inventories now drop if the last conduit in a bundle is broken, and the ME conduit now listens for capability invalidation.[17]
        • Fixed coldfire not going out or generating grains, crashes when checking for valid souls, and the farming station GUI background width.[17]

Several of these releases list work-in-progress features locked behind feature flags, such as The Ender IO. The changelogs say not to enable them on your primary world.[15][16][17]
