What is Forbidden and Arcanus ?

3 parts

Forbidden & Arcanus adds magical themed content in a style that could fit vanilla, plus many new building blocks. The pack includes version 2.6.1 of the mod.[1][2]

Where the quest book puts it

The mod has its own chapter, "Forbidden and Arcanus". It opens with "Forbidden \& Arcanus" quest, which asks for an Arcane Crystal and tells you to sieve some dust to get started. "Arcane Crystal Dust" quest comes right after it, and "Mundabitur Dust" quest sits alongside it as another starting quest.[3]

"Deorum" quest follows both of those. It asks for a Deorum Ingot, which the quest calls the foundational ingot of the mod, one you will need dozens of, especially for the building blocks of the multiblock machines. "Building the Forge" quest comes after Darkstone and Deorum.[3]

What you do in the chapter

ATM Star path

Yes, the ATM Star path uses this mod. In the mod's chapter, the quests "Forbidden \& Arcanus" quest, "Mundabitur Dust" quest, "Arcane Crystal Dust" quest and "Deorum" quest are on that path.[3]

The path then continues in "Chapter 4: The ATM Star". There an untitled quest, a quest in "Chapter 4: The ATM Star", comes after Deorum and asks for a Deorum Block.[4]

How do you get started with Forbidden and Arcanus ?

6 parts

Welcome to Forbidden & Arcanus! In this pack the mod's quest chapter starts you off with Arcane Crystal and tells you to sieve Dust to get it ("Forbidden \& Arcanus" quest). Here is the order I'd go in, and why each step matters.[3]

Step 1: Get Arcane Crystal from the sieve

The pack adds sieve recipes that turn Dust into Arcane Crystal, and they work with iron, golden, diamond and netherite meshes. The quest says this is where the mod starts, so do it first.[3][5]

Arcane CrystalAdded by the pack

Step 2: Make Arcane Crystal Dust

Arcane Crystal Dust is simple: smelt your Arcane Crystals. The Clibano multiblock can also do it later and gives a few bits of Arcane Crystals back.[3][5]

Smelting

Recipe id: forbidden_arcanus:smelting/arcane_crystal_dust_from_smelting

Step 3: Set up a Darkstone generator

Darkstone normally appears deep underground, and a skyblock has no underground. The pack adds a Cobblegen Galore block generator recipe for it instead. Place Witch Water and Lava next to the Block Generator, with an Arcane Crystal Block underneath. The lava gets consumed. Darkstone is the base of every multiblock in the mod, so grab a ton.[3][5]

Step 4: Mundabitur Dust and Deorum

Mundabitur Dust is made from Arcane Crystal Dust plus a few mob drops. It's a key crafting ingredient, and you right-click multiblocks with it to finish them. The pack changed this recipe, so use the one below rather than the mod's default.[3][5]

Next comes Deorum Ingot, the first alloy and the foundational ingot of the mod. You'll need dozens, especially for multiblock building blocks. The pack changed this recipe as well.[3][5]

Step 5: Build the Hephaestus Forge

With Darkstone and Deorum you can build the Forge. The in-game Ponder scene lists 9 Gilded Chiseled Polished Darkstone, 4 Chiseled Arcane Polished Darkstone and 45 Polished Darkstone for the base. Put a Smithing Table in the centre, keep the marked area clear, and right-click it with Mundabitur Dust. Then put Darkstone Pedestals on the 8 outer Gilded Chiseled Polished Darkstone.[3][6]

Step 6: Start filling the Forge slots

Aureal is the first and most important slot in the Forge. You can find Aureal Bottle in chests in most structures, or craft them with Arcane Crystal Dust and a Potion of Regeneration II. You can also automate Aureal with an Arcane Crystal Obelisk, which goes where the pedestals usually go.[3][6]

After that, Souls is the 2nd slot and only needs 10 to fill, and Blood is the 3rd slot.[3]

How does Forbidden and Arcanus work?

    3 parts

The sources I have for this mod are thin. There's no in-jar guidebook and no config files for it in the pack. The one multiblock they explain is the Hephaestus Forge, so that's what this section covers.[1][6]

    Building the Hephaestus Forge

The forge is built from a base structure of three block types. You need 9 Gilded Chiseled Polished Darkstone, 4 Chiseled Arcane Polished Darkstone and 45 Polished Darkstone. Once the base is done, place a Smithing Table in the center.[6]

Watch out: Keep the area around the forge clear. The in-game build guide says this space must be empty for the transformation to work.[6]

    Using the forge

Once the forge stands, you place extra blocks in set spots around it. Darkstone Pedestals hold the items for the ritual. Arcane Crystal Obelisks can go in the same spaces and passively generate Aureal.[6]

If you use JEI, the forge has its own recipe category called Hephaestus Forge Upgrading. Check it to see what the forge can do in this pack.[6]

    Smithing template and Darkstone

The darkstone upgrade smithing template says its base slot takes armor, a weapon or a tool. Here is the pack recipe for the Smithing Template.[5][6]

The pack also changed how you can get Darkstone. A decompression recipe turns a compressed Darkstone entry back into plain Darkstone.[5]

Unverified The exact layout of pedestals and obelisks around the forge, how to start a ritual, what Aureal is spent on, and any power, fluid or automation support are not covered by the available sources. Check the in-game Ponder scenes and the JEI category before relying on any of it. This site does hold All the Mods 10: To the Sky's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How do you progress through Forbidden and Arcanus ?

    5 parts

The pack walks you through Forbidden and Arcanus with its own quest chapter. The opening quest says you start with Arcane Crystal by sieving Dust, and the pack adds sieve recipes for it using iron, golden, diamond and netherite meshes. The rest of the chapter, as the quests describe it, leans heavily on the Hephaestus Forge and its tiers.[3][5]

    Getting started

Darkstone normally generates deep underground, which doesn't exist in a skyblock, so the pack gets it from a Cobblegen Galore block generator. The "Darkstone" quest quest says to put Witch Water and Lava next to the generator with an Arcane Crystal Block underneath, and that the lava gets consumed. The quest calls Darkstone the most-used block in the mod and says every multiblock uses it for its base, so grab plenty.[3][5]

Next come Arcane Crystal Dust (the quest says to smelt Arcane Crystals) and Mundabitur Dust, which the quest calls an important part of crafting and of making multiblocks. The pack changed the Mundabitur Dust recipe, so use the one shown here and not the mod default.[3][5]

Those two dusts lead to "Deorum" quest, your first alloy. The quest calls Deorum Ingot the foundational ingot of the mod, says you'll need dozens of them, and says they are especially used for the building blocks of your multiblock machines. This recipe is also changed by the pack.[3][5]

The first four quests (Forbidden and Arcanus, Mundabitur Dust, Arcane Crystal Dust and Deorum) are the ones on the ATM Star path. A Deorum Block shows up in the ATM Star chapter right after the Deorum quest.[3][4]

    Building the Hephaestus Forge

"Building the Forge" quest comes after the Darkstone and Deorum quests. It asks you to lay out Polished Darkstone, Arcane Polished Darkstone and Gilded Chiseled Polished Darkstone in the pattern the quest describes. Then you put a Smithing Table on the inner gilded block and hit it with Mundabitur Dust. Finally, the quest has you place Darkstone Pedestal blocks on the 8 outer gilded blocks.[3]

The quests describe several things the Forge needs before a ritual finishes, in this order:[3]

    • The quest calls Aureal the first and most important slot. It says you can automate it with Arcane Crystal Obelisks (a 1x3x1 structure you right-click with Mundabitur Dust, placed where the pedestals usually go) or deposit Aureal Bottles, which it says turn up in chests in most structures. See "Aureal" quest and "Arcane Crystal Obelisk" quest.[3]
    • Souls are the second slot, and the quest says you need only 10 to fill it. A Soul or a Corrupt Soul counts as 1, while an Enchanted Soul counts as all 10. The quest names the Soul Extractor, used on Soul Sand, as the best way to get Souls.[3]
    • Blood is the third slot. Per the quest, it comes from killing mobs on or near the Forge, or from depositing a filled Test Tube. To fill one, have it in your offhand when killing mobs.[3]
    • Experience is the last thing the quest lists. Even with everything in place, "Finishing the Ritual" quest says you need to right-click the Forge with a gavel to finalize the ritual.[3]

    Forge tiers

The quest chapter orders many of its entries by Forge tier. Here is what the quests tie to each one.[3]

    • Tier 1: the quests for finishing rituals, the Ferrognetic Mixture and the Quantum Catcher come after the Tier 1 Forge quest. The Smelter Prism quest also follows it, along with the Elementarium quest.[3]
    • Tier 2: the Terrastomp Prism quest calls it the only recipe which needs Tier 2. Used on tools, it lets them mine a 3x3 area, so 9 blocks instead of 1.[3]
    • Tier 3: the Artisan Relic quest comes after the Tier 3 Forge quest. Per that quest, using the relic in the Clibano lets you make Obsidiansteel, and using it in Forges gives a discount on experience. The Quantum Injector, Sea Prism, Whirlwind Prism and Eternal Stella quests also come after the Tier 3 Forge quest.[3]
    • Tier 4: the Boss Catcher (an upgrade of the Quantum Catcher, per its quest) and the Soul Binding Crystal quests come after the Tier 4 Forge quest. The Corrupt Souls quest mentions a Tier 4 Forge crafting recipe, which it says you don't need to worry about right now.[3]

    Clibano, Obsidiansteel and Black Hole

The quest describes the Clibano as a multiblock that acts sort of like a jumbo furnace. You build it from Polished Darkstone, Polished Darkstone Bricks and a Clibano Core, then right-click it with Mundabitur Dust. It's where you make Obsidiansteel Ingot from obsidian and raw iron, and the quest says you need an Artisan Relic to make the alloy.[3][5]

Obsidiansteel leads on to the "Black Hole" quest quest. It says Dark Matter comes from smelting Edelwood, Corrupti Dust is made with Obsidiansteel and some mob drops, and dropping both on the ground spawns a Black Hole. Feed it enough experience and it gives back an Xpetrified Orb. The Corrupt Souls quest says that growing Edelwood with Corrupt Souls and sieving are the only ways of getting Edelwood now. The Edelwood Bucket and Soul Extractor quests both follow the grown Edelwood quest.[3][5]

    Armor and gear

The armor quests follow the same ladder. Draco Arcanus armor is described as an upgrade of the mod's Obsidian armor, and you go into the Hephaestus Forge to get the materials. Tyr armor is described as an upgrade of Draco Arcanus that requires the mod's late-game Forge. The Mortem Armor quest and the Draco Arcanus Pickaxe quest each carry an editor note saying the quest was temporarily hidden because the item lacked a recipe at the time of writing, so don't plan around those two.[7][8]

How does Forbidden and Arcanus work with other mods?

    7 parts

Forbidden and Arcanus connects to several other mods in this pack, through recipes the pack added or changed and through its quest chapter. Here are the links that show up in the recipes and quests.[3][5]

    Ex Deorum sieving

The pack adds Ex Deorum sieve recipes for two of the mod's materials. You can sieve Dust to get Arcane Crystal, and that's exactly where the quest "Forbidden \& Arcanus" quest sends you to start the mod. You can also sieve moss to get Growing Edelwood, which acts as the sapling for Edelwood.[3][5]

    Darkstone and Cobblegen Galore

The quest "Darkstone" quest says Cobblegen Galore can supply Darkstone. You place Witch Water and Lava next to the Block Generator with an Arcane Crystal Block underneath, and the lava gets consumed. The quest calls it the most used block for the mod, says all multiblocks use it for their base, and tells you to grab a ton of it.[3]

The pack also changed the Darkstone compression recipes, so you can compress it into Darkstone 1x and decompress it back.[5]

    Occultism miners

Any miner spirit from Occultism can mine Rune (see "Runes" quest). Stellarite Piece is much rarer, and per "Stellarite Pieces" quest only Marid and Eldritch miners are skilled enough to find it. It explodes when broken, so be careful.[3]

    Neovitae dusts

Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Forbidden and Arcanus ?

      5 parts

Forbidden and Arcanus has its own quest chapter in this pack, and it also shows up in four other chapters: Basic Armor, Basic Tools, Productive Bees and the ATM Star chapter. The main chapter is the one that walks you through the mod, so start there. Two of the other quests, Mortem Armor and the Draco Arcanus Pickaxe, carry editor notes saying they were temporarily hidden because the items lacked recipes when the notes were written.[3][4][7][8][9]

      Getting started

      1. "Forbidden \& Arcanus" quest is the entry quest. It asks for Arcane Crystal and tells you to sieve some Dust to get going.[3]
      2. "Mundabitur Dust" quest asks for Mundabitur Dust, which the quest calls an important part of crafting and of making multiblocks.[3]
      3. "Arcane Crystal Dust" quest unlocks after the entry quest and asks for Arcane Crystal Dust.[3]
      4. "Darkstone" quest also unlocks after the entry quest and asks for Darkstone. The quest text says there is no underground here, so it points you to a cobblegen setup to get it.[3]
      5. "Deorum" quest comes after the Dust quests. It asks for your first alloy, the Deorum Ingot, which the quest says goes into building blocks for the multiblock machines.[3]

      The Forge and its slots

"Building the Forge" quest unlocks after Darkstone and Deorum. It has you gather Polished Darkstone, Gilded Chiseled Polished Darkstone, Chiseled Arcane Polished Darkstone, Darkstone Pedestal, a smithing table and Mundabitur Dust to build the Hephaestus Forge.[3]

Then you fill the Forge's slots. "Aureal" quest is the first slot, with Aureal Bottle as the task. "Arcane Crystal Obelisk" quest shows how to automate it. "Souls" quest is the second slot and asks for a Soul, and "Blood" quest is the third and asks for a Test Tube. Blood unlocks after "Runes" quest, which asks for a Rune.[3]

The Souls quest unlocks after a quest in "Forbidden and Arcanus", which asks for the Soul Extractor and itself comes after the Edelwood quest below. "Finishing the Ritual" quest asks for a Blacksmith Gavel Head so you can finish rituals.[3]

      Edelwood, Clibano and Obsidiansteel

      Relics, prisms and endgame

"Eternal Stella" quest unlocks after the Tier 3 Forge and Black Hole quests. "Elementarium" quest and "Divine Pact" quest both unlock after Eternal Stella (plus a Relics quest). The prism quests depend on Elementarium: "Smelter Prism" quest, "Sea Prism" quest and "Terrastomp Prism" quest, plus an untitled quest for the Whirlwind Prism. "Soul Binding Crystal" quest closes it out after Divine Pact and the Tier 4 Forge.[3]

There are a few side quests too. "Spectral Eye Amulet" quest unlocks after Deorum. "Stellarite Pieces" quest asks for a Stellarite Piece. "Quantum Injector" quest asks for the Quantum Injector. Two untitled quests ask for the Quantum Catcher and the Boss Catcher, and a further untitled one asks for Ferrognetic Mixture.[3]
