What is Productive Bees?
2 parts
Productive Bees adds a huge range of new bees on top of vanilla bees, and most of them produce resources instead of just honey. This pack includes version 1.21.1-13.13.5. If you like building bee farms that turn into automated resource lines, this mod is for you.[1][2][3]
In the wild, the new bees are solitary and live in nests around the Overworld instead of in hives. Their genetics let you breed new types. Some bees only appear in other dimensions or through breeding, so JEI is your friend for checking which parents you need.[2][4]
The pack's quests change the early game from searching to luring. You build Nests and right-click them with Honey Treat to lure bees in. Some Nests want special items instead, and the biome matters, so check JEI for each one.[5]
How the mod flows
- Start with the quest "Capturing Bees!" quest. Right-clicking a bee with a Bee Cage captures it, and you can also find Sturdy Bee Cage while adventuring.[5]
- Hive bees only make resource combs in advanced hives. Unlike a vanilla hive, an advanced hive can be broken and moved with the bees still inside, no Silk Touch needed.[3][6]
- Process combs in a Centrifuge. The pack's quest recommends upgrading soon to a Powered Centrifuge, and the Heated Centrifuge is faster still and works on Comb Blocks.[5][7]
- Automate breeding with the Breeding Chamber, and use the Bottler, Centrifuge and BaBee Incubator to collect genes and apply them to your bees.[5][8][9]
The ATM Star path
Productive Bees is part of the ATM Star path. In the Draconic Bee quest "Draconic Bee" quest, you place an Obsidian Nest in the End to lure the bee. It does not accept Honey Treats and uses Dragon's Breath instead. The Chapter 4 quest that follows asks for the Inactive Dragon Egg.[5][10]
The mod also feeds into the AllTheModium chapter. The AllTheModium Bee quest "AllTheModium Bee" quest needs an Ancient Bee spawn egg, and Ancient Bees come from feeding a block of netherite to a Diamond Bee.[11][12]
How do you get started with Productive Bees?
5 parts
Productive Bees builds on vanilla bees, so a little vanilla bee knowledge helps. On top of the usual bees, you'll meet new bees that live in nests hidden in different biomes. Here's the order I'd tackle things in.[2]
First, find a vanilla nest and make Bee Cages
Your first job is to find a vanilla bee nest and take some honey bottles and honeycombs from it. The honey bottles are what you need to craft Bee Cage, which makes it much easier to carry bees back home.[2]

Right-click a bee with a cage to capture it, then right-click the filled cage on the ground to release it. Keep a few cages on you whenever you travel. The quest "Capturing Bees!" quest covers this, and it mentions that adventuring can also net you Sturdy Bee Cage.[5][13]
Second, build an advanced beehive and an expansion box
Once you've collected enough honeycombs, build an advanced beehive and an expansion box. Hive bees only produce resource combs while they live in an advanced hive. The hive's GUI lets you see which bees are inside and take out what they've produced.[2][3][6]
The advanced hive doesn't need a campfire nearby to be harvested. You can also break it and move it with the bees still inside, without silk touch. An expansion box raises the bee capacity from 3 to 5. It goes on top of or next to the hive, and each hive can only have one.[6][14]
Unverified The crafting recipes for the advanced beehive and the expansion box were not in the sources available for this section. Look them up in JEI. This site does hold All the Mods 10: To the Sky's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
Third, make Honey Treats and lure in bees with nests
In this pack you don't spend your time chasing every bee around the world. Instead you craft nests and right-click them with Honey Treat to lure bees in. Honey Treats come out of the Bottler, so make that first.[5][15]

Each nest is home to one solitary bee. You can break a nest to pick it up with the bee inside, no silk touch needed. An empty nest can attract a new bee when you right-click it with a honey treat, which starts the repopulation cooldown.[16]
A good place to start is the Wood Nests quest "Wood Nests" quest. These nests work in any Overworld biome and lure Carpenter Bees and the Blue Banded Bee. Some nests need special items instead of Honey Treats, and the biome matters, so check JEI for each one.[5]
Fourth, set up a centrifuge for your combs
Resource combs go into a centrifuge to be turned into resources and honey. The quests say a regular Centrifuge is fine to start with, but you should get a Powered Centrifuge soon after. It runs on FE and processes faster.[5][7][18]

What to look at next
- Feeding Slab: the quest says you can place Bee Flowers on Feeding Slabs set in front of hives.[5]
- Catcher: load it with cages and it catches bees flying over it.[19]
- Breeding Chamber: breeds two bees automatically. Use JEI to look up which parents you need.[2][5]
How does Productive Bees work?
9 parts
Productive Bees is built on vanilla bees, so everything here assumes you know the basics of vanilla hives. This section covers the blocks and machines you will actually build and wire up, and how they fit together.[2]
Advanced hives and expansion boxes
The advanced hive is the workhorse. It doesn't need a campfire to be harvested, and you can break it and carry it with the bees still inside, no Silk Touch needed. Its GUI shows which bees are inside and lets you take out what they produced. Only bees living in advanced hives produce resource combs.[3][6][18]
Attaching an expansion box raises the bee capacity from 3 to 5 and unlocks upgrade slots. You can place it on top of or next to the hive, and each hive takes only one. In this pack the expansion box recipes for the wood types listed below were changed from the mod's version, so check the recipe shown here rather than JEI memories from other packs.[6][14][15]

Changed by the pack. The other wood variants follow the same pattern with their own planks (bamboo, birch, cherry, crimson).
If you're tired of waiting for bees to come out, whack the hive or nest with a stick. It forces them out, but you lose all production progress, and it only works if it's safe for the bees to leave.[6]
Upgrades
Upgrades go into hives and some machines. Everything starts from the upgrade base, and the hive upgrades do the following.[20]
- BaBee: gives bees a small chance to breed inside the hive without your help. Bees that can't breed normally don't work with it.[20]
- Productivity: more combs per trip, and you can stack several.[20]
- Speed: cuts the time a bee spends inside the hive. In a centrifuge or incubator it speeds up the operation instead.[20]
- Filter: right click a bee to add it to the filter. In a hive only filtered bees can enter. Put the filter in a crafting grid to clear it.[20]
- Range: raises the operating range of Farmer and Collector/Hoarder bees by 1 per upgrade, from the default of 4.[20]
- Anti-teleport: bees that can teleport stop doing so while living in that hive.[20]
- Gene sampler: extracts a small sample of genes from pollinating bees with each visit, and you can stack several for a better rate.[20]
- Block upgrade: the hive produces full comb blocks instead of honeycombs.[20]
- Simulator: bees stay inside the hive and their flower trips are simulated, which is better for server performance.[20]
The centrifuge has its own productivity upgrades. One increases the stack processing rate by 4 and the next tier by 8, and you can install several.[21]
Feeding Slabs
The Feeding Slab is a shared flowering spot that holds 3 item blocks. Since a simulated hive has only one flower block position, a slab lets up to 3 different bees work in the same hive. Lumber and Quarry bees feeding from it produce from a random item in the slab. You can honeylog it, which gives the bees regeneration.[22]
Combs, the Centrifuge and the Bottler
Resource combs go into the Centrifuge, which turns them into resources and honey. It holds 10 buckets of liquid, which can be pumped out, and it automatically pushes fluid into any fluid storage block placed next to it. The Powered Centrifuge runs on FE for faster processing. The centrifuge also separates genetic material from bottled bee material into genes.[7]

Catching, breeding and growing bees
The Catcher catches any bee flying over it, as long as it has cages loaded. A flower or feeding slab on top attracts bees. It accepts a BaBee upgrade (only baby bees), a filter upgrade (only the bees on the filter) and range upgrades. Each range upgrade expands the area by 1 block in all directions.[19][20]
The Breeding Chamber breeds bees safely. Give it the two parent bees, their breeding items, power and empty cages for the offspring. Speed upgrades make it faster.[8]

The Incubator speeds up baby bees. Put the BaBee in a cage and insert it with honey treats. It can also infuse an egg with a bee type gene to make a spawn egg, and only the type gene is used for that.[24]
Genetics workflow
- Put a bee in the middle of a bottler with a piston next to it, make sure the bottler holds empty bottles, then pull the lever.[9][23]
- Throw the bottled bee into a centrifuge to separate the useful stuff from the junk.[7][9]
- Combine the isolated gene with a honey treat and feed it to the bee. The chance of it taking the new attribute depends on the gene's purity.[25][26]
- Raise purity by combining two of the same gene or by putting more of the same gene onto one treat.[25]
If you're drowning in gene samples, the Gene Indexer is a big container that combines genes for you. It needs a redstone signal.[27]
Power
The Honey Generator burns honey to produce power. You can pipe honey in or add honey bottles, blocks and buckets in the GUI. It accepts a productivity upgrade, which lowers honey consumption, and a speed upgrade.[28]
Dragon Egg Hive
The Dragon Egg Hive is made for Draconic bees and is how you harvest draconic combs. In the End they need no flowering, because they absorb draconic essence from the air. Anywhere else they need another pollination source. This hive does not support upgrades.[29]
Keeping things fast
Bees are entities, so pathing and AI are the main cost. Give every bee a home and its required flower block, and keep enclosures small so they don't wander. A simulator upgrade avoids having the bees in the world at all. If you run lots of centrifuges, you can also turn off comb rendering in the productivebees-client.toml config file.[30]
How do you progress through Productive Bees?
6 parts
Productive Bees in this pack is built around luring bees with Nests, not chasing them across the world. You spawn bees by right-clicking Nests with Honey Treats, breed them into new types, and then move on to the modded-material bees. The quest chapter walks you through it, and this section follows that order.[5]
Tier 1: Capture and lure
"Capturing Bees!" quest is your starting point. Right-clicking a bee with a Bee Cage captures it. Adventuring can also net you Sturdy Bee Cage items.[5]
Crafting Shaped
| any plank | any plank |

Next, a quest in "Productive Bees" introduces the Honey Treat. You make Nests and right-click them with the treat to lure bees in. Some Nests need special items instead, and the biome decides which bees show up, so check JEI before you place one.[5]
- Wood Nests (the "Wood Nests" quest quest) work in any Overworld biome and lure Carpenter Bees and the Blue Banded Bee. The Dark Oak Nest lures 3 different bees.[5]
- The Sand Nest attracts either the Chocolate or the Ashy Mining Bee in any Overworld biome.[5]
- The Gravel Nest lures the Ashy Mining Bee, the Chocolate Mining Bee and the Digger Bee in any Overworld biome.[5]
- The Soul Sand Nest lures Ghostly Bees in the Nether when you give it Ghast Tears.[5]
- The Nether Gold Nest lures a Gold Bee when placed in the Nether.[5]
- The End Stone Nest is how you get an Ender Bee, so head to the End for it.[5][31]
- The Obsidian Nest lures Draconic Bees when placed in the End. They don't take Honey Treats and use Dragon's Breath instead.[5]
Tier 2: Advanced hives and machines
Advanced Hives don't need a campfire nearby to be harvestable, and you can move them with the bees still inside without silk touch. An expansion box raises the bee capacity from 3 to 5 and lets you install upgrades.[6]
The machine quests all branch off the Advanced Beehive quest. You can pick them up in any order:[5]
- Catcher: catches bees flying around it. A Filter Upgrade picks which bees it takes, and a BaBee Upgrade limits it to baby bees.[5]
- Feeding Slab: you place Bee Flowers on Feeding Slabs set in front of hives.[5]
- Centrifuge: processes Combs into items and honey. A regular one is fine at first, but the quest says to get a Powered Centrifuge soon after. The Heated Centrifuge is faster still and processes Comb Blocks instead of Combs. Speed Upgrades speed up all of them.[5]
- Bottler: bottles honey and squishes bees for genes.[5]
- Breeding Chamber: breeds bees automatically.[5]
- Bee Jar: shows off a caged bee.[5]

The breeding ladder
Once the Breeding Chamber is running, the in-game guide gives these parent pairs for the early resource bees:[8][32]
- Iron Bee: a Crystalline Bee and an Ashy Mining Bee. Crystalline Bees live in nether quartz nests in the Nether.[32][33]
- Gold Bee: a Crystalline Bee and a Mason Bee.[34]
- Redstone Bee: a Glowing Bee and a Chocolate Mining Bee. Lapis Bee: a Redstone Bee and a Blue Banded Bee.[35][36]
- Diamond Bee: an Ender Bee and a Lapis Bee. Emerald Bee: a Slimy Bee and a Diamond Bee. Experience Bee: an Emerald Bee and a Lapis Bee.[37][38][39]
- Blazing Bee: a Magmatic Bee and a Nomad Bee. Coal Bee: a Blazing Bee and a Leafcutter Bee. Obsidian Bee: a Magmatic Bee and a Sweat Bee.[40][41][42]
Tier 3: Modded-material bees
Most of the long quest list is bees for materials from other mods, and the pack routes them through those mods' own machines. The recipe dump marks many of these as changed by the pack, so don't rely on the mod's default recipes. The gem bees are one case: their hive output is changed to a Honeycomb.[15]
- "Soularium Bee" quest and the other EnderIO alloy bees are made in the Alloy Smelter.[5][15]
- "Water Essence Bee" quest and the other essence bees are crafted with the Enchanting Apparatus.[5][15]
- "Manganese Bee" quest uses a Centrifuge, which takes 6 Iron Bee Spawn Eggs for 1 Manganese Bee Spawn Egg.[5][15]
- "Draconium Bee" quest uses Wyvern Fusion Crafting and "Chaos Bee" quest uses Chaotic Fusion Crafting.[5][15]
- "Deorum Bee" quest is made in the Clibano.[5][15]
- The Sky Steel, Sky Osmium and Sky Bronze bees use AE2 transform recipes, which the pack changed.[15]
- "Bee Of Infinity" quest: a BlazBee pollinating an Obsidian Bee Spawn Egg converts it into an Infinity Bee Spawn Egg.[5]
Item Conversion (productivebees)
Recipe id: productivebees:item_conversion/amber_bee
This conversion recipe is added by the pack.
Genetics
The gene chain starts at the Bottler: a piston squishes a bee into genes. The Gene Sample quest then says to combine Gene Samples with a Honey Treat in a crafting grid. Every trait except Type is applied by feeding the bee the treat. Type has to go through the BaBee Incubator to make a Spawn Egg.[5]
The Incubator also turns a caged baby bee into an adult when you give it 20 Honey Treats. Genes combine up to a maximum of 100% purity, which gives a 100% chance to convert an Egg into a Bee Spawn Egg. The Gene Indexer auto-combines genes for you.[5]
Unverified The Gene Indexer quest says it does not need a redstone signal, but the in-game guide says it does. Test it in your own world before building around either claim.
Endgame: Draconic bees and the Heated Centrifuge
"Draconic Bee" quest has you place an Obsidian Nest in the End. The Draconic Bee is a separate line from the Draconium Bee. In the ATM Star chapter, a follow-up quest asks you to craft an Inactive Dragon Egg.[5][10]

How does Productive Bees work with other mods?
6 parts
Productive Bees ties into a lot of the pack's other mods, and almost all of it comes through recipes the pack changed or added. What you see below is this pack's version of those recipes, not the stock mod behavior.[15]
Centrifuge outputs from other mods
The pack changed many comb recipes in the Centrifuge so that combs give you items from other mods, and each of these also returns Wax.[15]
- Alloy combs give AllTheOres nuggets: Brass Nugget, Bronze Nugget, Constantan Nugget, Electrum Nugget, Enderium Nugget, Invar Nugget, Lumium Nugget, Signalum Nugget and Steel Nugget. The sulfur comb gives Sulfur.[15]
- Ender IO combs give Conductive Alloy Nugget, Dark Steel Nugget, End Steel Nugget, Energetic Alloy Nugget, Pulsating Alloy Nugget, Redstone Alloy Nugget, Soularium Nugget, Vibrant Alloy Nugget and Grains of Infinity.[15]
- AllTheModium combs give Allthemodium Nugget, Unobtainium Nugget, Vibranium Nugget and Patrick Star. The Soul Lava entry lists Soul Lava as an input and gives Wax.[15]
- The Fluix comb gives Fluix Crystal and Fluix Dust. The Arcane comb gives Source Gem, and the Chaos comb gives Tiny Chaos Fragment.[15]
Bee conversion recipes
Many bees from other mods are unlocked through the bee-conversion recipe type, which matches the in-game guide's note that some bees come from giving a specific item to a bee. The pack changed all of the recipes below, except the Wasted Radioactive one, which it added.[3][15]
- Storage and crystals: Block of Black Quartz (Black Quartz), Fluix Pearl (Fluix), Block of Monazite (Monazite), Prosperity Block (Prosperity), Anglesite Ore (Anglesite) and Benitoite (BaTiSi3O9) (Benitoite).[15]
- Magic mods: Arcane Crystal Block (Arcane Crystal), Rune Block (Rune), Soulium Dagger (Soulium) and Super Enchanting Template (Super Experience).[15]
- Just Dire Things goo blocks: Primogel Goo gives Ferricore, Blazebloom Goo gives Blazegold, VoidShimmer Goo gives Celestigem and Shadowpulse Goo gives Eclipse Alloy.[15]
- Fluids and industrial items: Ether Gas Bucket (Ether Gas), Pink Slime (Pink Slimy), Liquid Lithium Bucket (Lithium), and the Oritech buckets Sheol Fire Bucket, Strange Matter Bucket and Sulfuric Acid Bucket.[15]
- Other: ATM Star Block gives the Starry bee, Infused Diamond gives the Dimensional Shard bee, and Polonium Pellet gives the Wasted Radioactive bee.[15]
Unverified The recipe dump does not show which starting bee each conversion needs. Check JEI for the exact requirements, as the in-game guide suggests. This site does hold All the Mods 10: To the Sky's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
Applied Energistics 2 and Ars Nouveau transforms
The pack also changed recipes that turn a configurable bee into another type. In Applied Energistics 2, the Entro bee uses Entro Dust in water, and the Redstone Crystal bee uses Fluix Crystal and Glowstone Dust in water. The Sky Bronze and Sky Osmium bees both list Charged Certus Quartz Crystal and Sky Stone in lava, and the dump does not show how those two differ.[15]
In Ars Nouveau, the Enchanting Apparatus makes the Arcane bee from a Source Gem, and the Air Essence bee from a Wilden Wing plus a Rancher Bee Spawn Egg.[15]
Crafting added or changed by the pack
- Wax Block can be compressed into Wax Block 1x and decompressed back. The pack changed both recipes.[15]
- Petrified Honey plus a dye makes a colored version, for example Amber Petrified Honey or Wine Petrified Honey. The pack added these recipes.[15]
The pack also added a recipe for the Dragon Soul. It needs the Inactive Dragon Egg together with items from Actually Additions, Ars Nouveau, Draconic Evolution, Mystical Agradditions and Occultism.[15]
Shaped (kubejs)

Modular Bees add-on
Modular Bees builds on Productive Bees items. Its Bee Extractor needs a Bottler, its Modular Centrifuge needs a Centrifuge and an Inactive Dragon Egg, and its Centrifuge Heater needs a Heated Centrifuge. The Modular Dragon Hive is made from the Dragon Egg Hive, and the Modular Feeder from the Feeding Slab. These are listed as mod recipes, not pack changes.[15]

Related quests
The Productive Bees quest chapter includes entries that point at other mods. "Soularium Bee" quest asks for an Ender IO soularium block, and "Chaos Bee" quest asks for a Draconic Evolution chaos shard. "Draconic Bee" quest asks for a dragon egg, and its note says to place an Obsidian Nest in the End.[5]
Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Productive Bees?
6 parts
Productive Bees has its own quest chapter in the pack. It walks you from catching your first bee, through the machines, genes and nests, and into a long list of individual bee quests. A few related quests sit in other chapters.[5][10][11]
Getting started
- "Capturing Bees!" quest asks you to hand in a Bee Cage. Right-clicking a bee with it captures the bee. The quest also mentions that adventuring can net you Sturdy Bee Cage items.[5]
- a quest in "Productive Bees" asks for a Honey Treat. The idea is that you don't chase bees around. You make nests and right-click them with Honey Treats to lure bees in, and some nests need special items instead. Check which biome you need for the bee you want.[5]
Machines and tools
After the Advanced Beehive quest, the chapter unlocks a set of side quests, each asking you to hand in one machine or item:[5]
- a quest in "Productive Bees" asks for a Feeding Slab. Bee Flowers go on Feeding Slabs placed in front of hives.[5]
- a quest in "Productive Bees" asks for a Bee Jar, which you use to show off your bees. A pipe or hopper inserts the caged bee.[5]
- a quest in "Productive Bees" accepts a Centrifuge, a Powered Centrifuge or a Heated Centrifuge. The quest recommends moving to the Powered Centrifuge soon after you start. The Heated Centrifuge is faster still and processes Comb Blocks instead of combs. Speed Upgrades can make these faster.[5]
- a quest in "Productive Bees" asks for the BaBee Incubator. It speeds up baby bee growth (a caged baby bee with 20 Honey Treats becomes an adult) and makes spawn eggs from genes.[5]
- a quest in "Productive Bees" asks for the Gene Indexer, which auto-combines gene samples and needs no redstone signal.[5]
- a quest in "Productive Bees" asks for the Breeding Chamber, which breeds bees automatically. It can self-breed or combine two bee types into a third.[5]
- a quest in "Productive Bees" asks for the Bottler. It bottles honey, and with a piston above it you can squish a bee to get genes.[5]
- a quest in "Productive Bees" asks for the Catcher, which catches bees flying around it. You can add a Filter Upgrade or a BaBee Upgrade.[5]
Genes and traits
The gene sub-chain hangs off the Bottler quest. a quest in "Productive Bees" asks for a Gene Sample. It introduces bee traits, and its text says Type works differently from the other traits and has to go through the Incubator to make a spawn egg.[5]
Two trait quests follow it, also asking for a Gene Sample. "Beehavior" quest covers the work-time trait (Diurnal, Nocturnal or Metaturnal) and says Metaturnal is the one you want. "Temper" quest covers aggression, which has four levels from Passive to Aggressive.[5]
Nest quests
The nest quests come after a separate earlier quest in the chain and each ask you to hand in one nest. They also tell you what each nest lures:[5]
- "Wood Nests" quest asks for the wood nests: Oak Nest, Dark Oak Nest, Jungle Nest, Spruce Nest, Birch Nest, Acacia Nest, Cherry Nest, Mangrove Nest and Bamboo Nest. They can be placed in any Overworld biome and lure Carpenter Bees and the Blue Banded Bee. The Dark Oak Nest lures 3 different bees.[5]
- a quest in "Productive Bees" asks for the Sand Nest, which attracts the Chocolate or Ashy Mining Bee in any Overworld biome.[5]
- a quest in "Productive Bees" asks for the Gravel Nest, which lures the Ashy Mining Bee, Chocolate Mining Bee and Digger Bee in any Overworld biome.[5]
- a quest in "Productive Bees" asks for the Soul Sand Nest. Place it in the Nether and give it Ghast Tears to lure Ghostly Bees.[5]
- a quest in "Productive Bees" asks for the Nether Gold Nest. It lures a Gold Bee in the Nether and needs Gold Ingots instead of Honey Treats.[5]
- a quest in "Productive Bees" asks for the Obsidian Nest. In the End it lures Draconic Bees, which use Dragon's Breath instead of Honey Treats.[5]
Individual bee quests
Most of the chapter is one quest per bee. They accept any one of a Honeycomb, a Comb Block, a spawn egg (Spawn Egg Configurable Bee), a Bee Cage or a Sturdy Bee Cage. Most also ask for a second item tied to that bee's resource, and the subtitle usually tells you how to get the bee. Examples are "Iron + Blaze" or "Made in Alloy Smelter".[5]
"Draconic Bee" quest (Draconic Bee) follows the Honey Treat quest. It also asks for a Dragon Egg, and its text says to place an Obsidian Nest in the End. "Ender Bee" quest (Ender Bee) also follows the Honey Treat quest. It tells you to make an End Stone Nest and head to the End.[5]
Some bee quests follow the same pattern as "CreeBee" quest (CreeBee), which asks for a Powdery Comb. Its subtitle says to feed a vanilla bee TNT. The "BlazBee" quest (BlazBee) quest is subtitled "Magmatic + Nomad".[5]
Quests in other chapters
- In Chapter 3: AllTheModium, "AllTheModium Bee" quest (AllTheModium Bee) asks for the Spawn Egg Configurable Bee.[11]
- In Chapter 4: The ATM Star, a quest in "Chapter 4: The ATM Star" asks for an Inactive Dragon Egg. It comes after the Obsidian Nest quest in the Productive Bees chapter.[5][10]
