What is Oritech?

2 parts

Oritech is a technology mod built around animated multiblock machines. It covers processing machines, world-interaction machines, logistics parts, equipment and more. Machine upgrades come from addon blocks you attach to the machine. This pack ships Oritech 1.2.12.[1][2]

It suits you if you like building big processing chains and automated farms. The mod aims to give you several ways to get most things, so you rarely hit a roadblock that needs one rare item. It also pushes renewable fuel and items, with oil wells and resource nodes encouraging you to build outposts and ship goods to a central hub.[1]

Where it fits in the pack

Oritech has its own quest chapter, and most of it branches off the Oritech Beginnings quest. Start with "Machine Cores" quest: machine cores are the basis of every Oritech machine, and you right-click a machine with a core to build it. The chapter then covers generators, energy storage, and item, fluid and energy pipes. It also covers drone ports, the pulverizer and the centrifuge.[3]

The ATM Star path

Part of the Oritech chapter sits on the ATM Star path. Here is the route the quests lay out:[3]

Tip: The Assembler quest, Putting things together, is a gateway. Many other Oritech quests and both Chapter 4 Oritech quests come after it, so build it early.[3][4]

How do you get started with Oritech?

4 parts

Oritech has its own quest chapter in this pack, and many of its quests unlock straight after the opening quest, Oritech Beginnings. That means the order is up to you. This is the order I'd follow, based on what the quests say each machine is for.[3]

The mod's own advancement for starting out is to acquire some raw nickel, so get mining first.[5]

The first steps, in order

  1. Make a Primitive Machine Core. All machines use machine cores. You right-click a machine with a core to build it. Cores don't change a machine's speed or efficiency directly, only how many modifiers it can take.[3]
  2. Build an Assembler. It's more than a crafter: it lets you make newer items and also improves the yield of some other items.[3]
  3. Craft a Magnetic Coil and a Motor in the Assembler. The quest calls them the basic building components used to make most machines.[3][6]
  4. Get power running with a Basic Generator, which runs on furnace fuel.[3]
  5. Build a Pulverizer to grind ores, then a Centrifuge. The quest calls the Centrifuge an important machine for your future endeavours.[3]

The Motor is also made in the Assembler.

Power next

Once the Basic Generator works, there are other options. The Bio Generator makes power from biomass, the Lava Generator runs on lava, and the Fuel Generator uses liquid fuel. Store what you generate in a Portable Energy Storage or a Large Energy Storage. To move it around, use an Energy Pipe, a Framed Energy Pipe or an Energy Pipe Duct. The pipe quest is about smoothly transferring 10k rf/t.[3]

Ore processing

To process ores with Oritech, the quest says you need a Centrifuge with a Fluid Addon plus a Pulverizer or a Fragment Forge. The Fragment Forge improves the yield of all pulverisation recipes. With the Fluid Addon on the Centrifuge, you can feed clumps in along with Sulfuric Acid to get gems. Water also works, but it gives a lower yield.[3]

3× Iron GemMod recipe

Centrifuge Fluid (oritech)

The acid version for iron. Copper, gold, nickel and platinum have matching recipes.

The pack changed the plain Centrifuge recipes for copper, gold, iron and nickel clumps. Each one now also gives a tiny dust from another mod alongside the gem. The platinum clump recipe is the mod's own.[6]

Watch out: The quest notes that some recipes are currently broken and output dusts or nuggets instead of gems. If you get dust where you expected a gem, that's why.[3]

How does Oritech work?

6 parts

Oritech machines are mostly animated multiblocks, and you upgrade them with addon blocks. The mod also has item, fluid and energy pipes, drones, lasers, a reactor and particle accelerators. This section covers what the sources confirm about how those parts work, and what this pack changed.[1]

Machines and addons

Upgrades are implemented with addon blocks. In this pack you can craft addons such as the Acceptor Addon, Capacitor Addon, Efficiency Addon, Hunter Addon and Crop Filter Addon. The Machine Addon Extender and Power Bank Addon Extender are also craftable.[1][6]

Tip: Oritech works best with EMI, and the mod has a setting that enables a help button in machine screens. Use both when you're learning a new machine.[1][5]

Pipes and logistics

Oritech has item, fluid and energy pipes, and each type has only one tier. Pipes are generally pretty fast. Pipe blocks only get block entities where needed, for example when connecting to machines. All networks are cached, and network updates are only sent when needed. Drones can also carry items across vast distances.[1]

The recipes for the Fluid Pipe and the Pump in this pack are the Ender IO compatibility versions, and both are marked as changed by the pack.[6]

Power: what the pack changed

The pack raised most machine power values above the mod default. Here are the generator settings, one option per line, with the mod default in brackets.[7]

Processing machines use more energy per tick too, again with the default in brackets.[7]

World interaction machines were raised as well.[7]

Energy storage was expanded too. storageBlocks.smallEnergyStorage.energyCapacity is 5,000,000 (default 1,000,000), and storageBlocks.largeEnergyStorage.energyCapacity is 60,000,000 (default 20,000,000).[7]

The reactor

The reactor is a multiblock, and the pack changed all of its main settings, so its limits and output differ from the mod default.[5][7]

You create a tainted refinery by exploding a refinery near a soul-charged catalyst. Arcane blocks increase its energy efficiency, and sculk blocks increase its output multiplier.[5]

The arcane settings are the same as the mod defaults in this pack. Here are the values.[7]

How do you progress through Oritech?

6 parts

In this pack, Oritech progression follows the Oritech quest chapter. Many of the machine quests come after the Oritech Beginnings quest. Two strands matter most: the machine core ladder, and the chain that leads to the Atomic Forge and the late-game components. The quest book also carries a note that some centrifuge recipes are currently broken, which is covered under ore processing below.[3]

Machine cores and first machines

The quest book starts you with "Machine Cores" quest. Its text says machine cores form the basics of Oritech: you right-click machines with machine cores to build them, and they only affect the number of modifiers, not speed or efficiency directly. The quest line then continues with Improved Machine Core, Advanced Machine Core, Elite Machine Core and Ultra Machine Core, each quest following the previous one.[3]

Alongside the cores, the quest book lists the early machines. The Pulverizer quest is described as grinding, and the Centrifuge quest calls it an important machine for your future endeavours. The Assembler quest says it is more than a crafter and also improves yield for some other items. The Magnetic Coil and Motor quest says they will be used to make most machines.[3]

2× MotorMod recipe

Assembler (oritech)

Recipe id: oritech:assembler/motor

The Motor is an Assembler recipe in this pack.

For power, the quest book lists the Basic Generator (furnace fuel), the Bio Generator (biomass), the Lava Generator and the Fuel Generator (liquid fuel). For storage it lists the Portable Energy Storage and Large Energy Storage. The energy pipe quest is titled as smoothly transferring 10k rf/t.[3]

For logistics, the Pipe Booster quest says the Pipe Booster uses power to boost the extraction speed of Oritech pipes. The drone port quest says drone ports require a minimum of 50 blocks distance. It tells you to place two, sneak right-click a Target Designator on one to store its location, then put the designator in the UI of the second.[3]

Ore processing

The Ore Processing quest says you need a Centrifuge with a Fluid Addon, plus a Pulverizer or a Fragment Forge. The Fragment Forge quest says it improves yield on all pulverisation recipes. The Spinning into gems quest says centrifuging clumps with Sulfuric Acid gives gems, and Water works at a lower yield. That quest also notes that currently some recipes which output dusts or nuggets are broken.[3]

The pack changed the dry centrifuge recipes for copper, gold, iron and nickel clumps, so each now also outputs a tiny dust from Modern Industrialization. The Sulfuric Acid recipes also give Mineral Slurry.[6]

Alloys, fluxite and the laser

The Making alloys quest asks for a Foundry and an Adamant Ingot. You can also craft adamant in the crafting grid.[3][6]

Atomic Forge (oritech)

Recipe id: oritech:atomicforge/duratium

The Enderic Laser (Enderic Laser) quest comes after the Assembler and Foundry quests. Its text lists these uses: transferring energy, transforming materials, breaking blocks and speeding up amethyst growth. The fluxite quest tells you to shift right-click your target designator on the amethyst cluster, then shift right-click the laser, to charge it into Fluxite. The Hunter Addon quest says the addon allows the laser to target mobs.[3]

Fluxite also has several routes added or changed by the pack: an Advanced AE reaction recipe, the AE2 charger, Powah energizing, and Productive Metalworks casting from Molten Fluxite. Centrifuging platinum clumps gives it too.[6]

The quest for Enderic Compound says there are loads of ways to get it, and the pack changed one of its centrifuge recipes. The Processing Unit and Flux Gate are both Assembler products.[3][6]

The Basic Armor chapter covers the Exo Armor (Exo Helmet, Exo Chestplate, Exo Leggings, Exo Boots). It is a set designed for utility and exploration rather than combat, with very little base protection. The Basic Tools chapter lists the Prometheum Pickaxe as Tier: 4.[8][9]

Bee shortcuts

The Productive Bees chapter has quests for Oritech materials, mostly by alloying bee eggs. Adamant comes from a Diamond Bee with a Nickel Bee, and Energite from a Nickel Bee with a Fluxite Bee. Sulfuric Acid and Sheol Fire come from feeding buckets to a Lava Bee.[10]

How does Oritech work with other mods?

5 parts

In this pack, most of Oritech's links to other mods come from recipes the pack added or changed. Here are the cross-mod connections the recipe data confirms.[6]

Biosteel casting with Silent Gear parts

Molten Biosteel is used for casting in Productive Metalworks, and the pack added these recipes. Cast a Silent Gear part with it and you get the matching cast. For example, Pickaxe Head becomes Pickaxe Cast.[6]

The generic casts work the same way: Gear Cast, Gem Cast, Ingot Cast, Nugget Cast, Plate Cast and Rod Cast each accept any item from the matching common tag, such as any gear, gem, ingot, nugget, plate or rod.[6]

Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Oritech?

6 parts

Oritech has its own big quest chapter, and in the quest book most of its quests come after a starting quest called Oritech Beginnings. From there it branches into power, logistics, ore processing, machine upgrades and a long late-game chain. A few Oritech items also show up in other chapters, and I cover those at the end.[3]

First steps: cores, crafting and power

  1. "Machine Cores" quest asks for the Primitive Machine Core. The quest text says you right-click machines with machine cores to build them, and that cores only affect the number of modifiers, not speed or efficiency directly.[3]
  2. "Putting things together" quest asks for the Assembler. The quest text says it does more than crafting, because it also improves yield for some other items.[3]
  3. "Basic Building Components" quest asks for the Magnetic Coil and the Motor. In the quest book it comes after Oritech Beginnings and the Assembler quest.[3]
  4. The generator quests all come after Oritech Beginnings. They ask for the Basic Generator (a quest in "Oritech"), the Bio Generator (a quest in "Oritech"), the Lava Generator (a quest in "Oritech") and the Fuel Generator (a quest in "Oritech").[3]
  5. "Storing Energy" quest asks for the Portable Energy Storage and the Large Energy Storage. "Transferring Energy" quest asks for the Energy Pipe, Framed Energy Pipe and Energy Pipe Duct, and its subtitle is about smoothly transferring 10k rf/t.[3]

Moving items and fluids

"Transporting items" quest asks for item pipes and the Item Filter. "Transporting liquids" quest asks for fluid pipes and the Portable Tank. a quest in "Oritech" asks for the Pipe Booster, and its quest text says to use power with it to boost extraction speed of Oritech pipes.[3]

a quest in "Oritech" asks for the Drone Port. Its quest text says drone ports require a minimum of 50 blocks distance to work. You place two of them and sneak right-click a Target Designator on one to store its location, then put the designator in the second port's UI.[3]

Ore processing

In the quest book you start with the Pulverizer (a quest in "Oritech"), then move to the Fragment Forge (a quest in "Oritech"), which the quest text says improves yield on all pulverisation recipes. The Centrifuge (a quest in "Oritech") is described as an important machine for your future endeavours. Its Fluid Addon has its own quest, a quest in "Oritech".[3]

"Ore Processing" quest asks for processed gems, such as the Iron Gem or Gold Gem. Its quest text says ore processing uses a Centrifuge with a Fluid Addon plus a Pulveriser or Fragment Forge. "Spinning into gems" quest says clumps processed with sulphuric acid give gems, while water gives a lower yield. Its note adds that currently some recipes are broken and output dusts or nuggets, so that applies to the quest text of this version. a quest in "Oritech" asks for Carbon Fibre Strands and comes after the Pulverizer and Centrifuge quests.[3]

Machine cores and addons

The core upgrades form a chain in the quest book. a quest in "Oritech" asks for the Improved Machine Core. After it come a quest in "Oritech" (Advanced Machine Core), a quest in "Oritech" (Elite Machine Core) and a quest in "Oritech" (Ultra Machine Core).[3]

The addon quests all share one prerequisite quest, which is not named in the chapter data. They ask for the Capacitor Addon (a quest in "Oritech"), Auxiliary Processing Chamber Addon (a quest in "Oritech"), Acceptor Addon (a quest in "Oritech"), Efficiency Addon (a quest in "Oritech"), Machine Addon Extender (a quest in "Oritech"), Speed Addon (a quest in "Oritech") and the Fluid Addon again (a quest in "Oritech"). The Hunter Addon quest, "Hurting Mobs" quest, comes after the laser quest below.[3]

Lasers, the Atomic Forge and the late game

  1. a quest in "Oritech" asks for the Foundry and an Adamant Ingot. It leads to a quest in "Oritech" for the Duratium Ingot.[3]
  2. a quest in "Oritech" asks for the Enderic Laser and the Target Designator, after the Assembler and Foundry quests. a quest in "Oritech" then asks you to charge amethyst with the laser to get Fluxite.[3]
  3. a quest in "Oritech" asks for the Processing Unit. Together with the fluxite quest it leads to a quest in "Oritech" for the Flux Gate. a quest in "Oritech" asks for Enderic Compound and follows the Centrifuge quest.[3]
  4. a quest in "Oritech" asks for the Atomic Forge. It needs the Duratium, Enderic Compound and Flux Gate quests first, and the quest says it can only be powered by Enderic Lasers.[3]
  5. After the Atomic Forge the chain runs a quest in "Oritech" (Silicon Wafer), a quest in "Oritech" (Advanced Computing Engine), a quest in "Oritech" (Super AI Chip) and a quest in "Oritech" (Heisenberg Compensator).[3]
  6. a quest in "Oritech" asks for the Manhattan Module. It needs the Heisenberg Compensator quest and a quest in "Oritech", which asks for the Plutonium Pellet.[3]

Other quests in the same chapter: a quest in "Oritech" asks for the Nuclear Reactor Controller, and a quest in "Oritech" asks for the Refinery and the Refinery Chamber Module, after a quest called Refining Ores.[3]

Oritech items in other chapters

Which Oritech config options matter?

5 parts

Same as in the All the Mons 1.3.0 guide

Oritech has a huge config, but this pack only changes a handful of values. Almost everything it touches is about power: the reactor, the generators, energy storage and how much your machines draw. Everything below is the pack's value, with the mod default next to it so you can see what moved.[11]

Reactor

The reactor got the biggest rework. It is smaller, but it makes far more power and cools faster.[11]

Watch out: reactor.safeMode is false in this pack, so an overheated reactor explodes instead of entering a cooldown period.[11]

Generators

Every generator except the steam engine was changed. The solar generator got the biggest boost: machineSettings.generators.solarGeneratorData.energyPerTick is 1,600 (mod default 32).[11]

  • Basic generator: energy per tick is 64 (mod default 32).[11]
  • Bio and lava generators: energy per tick is 256 (mod default 64), capacity is 400,000 (mod default 100,000), and max extraction is 2,048 (mod default 512).[11]
  • Fuel generator: energy per tick is 2,048 (mod default 256), capacity is 1,000,000 (mod default 250,000), and max extraction is 16,000 (mod default 2,048).[11]
  • Solar generator: capacity is 1,000,000 (mod default 100,000) and max extraction is 25,600 (mod default 256).[11]

Energy storage

The storage blocks hold much more. storageBlocks.smallEnergyStorage.energyCapacity is 5,000,000 (mod default 1,000,000) and storageBlocks.largeEnergyStorage.energyCapacity is 60,000,000 (mod default 20,000,000). Their insertion and extraction limits are unchanged.[11]

Machine power draw

Machines are hungrier here, and most are set to roughly double or more their default draw. The numbers below are energy per tick.[11]

  • Furnace and pulverizer: 64 (mod default 32).[11]
  • Centrifuge and refinery: 128 (mod default 64).[11]
  • Cooler: 128 (mod default 32).[11]
  • Foundry: 256 (mod default 128).[11]
  • Fragment forge: 512 (mod default 256).[11]
  • Laser arm: 512 (mod default 128), with max energy insertion of 2,048 (mod default 1,024).[11]
  • Fertilizer: 16 per move and 256 per work step (mod defaults 8 and 128). Placer: 16 per move and 128 per work step (mod defaults 8 and 64).[11]

Left at the mod default

Pipes, cables, the particle accelerator, addons and the startup-file gear are all at their mod defaults. A few settings worth knowing about:[11][12]

What changed in Oritech between versions?

6 parts

All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 ships Oritech 1.2.12, and the pack has included Oritech since version 1.0 or earlier. Below are the notable changes from the mod's own changelogs that I have, newest first. These are mod changelogs, so they describe the mod itself and not necessarily every value in the pack.[2]

1.1.0

  • Added the Hangar Door block, and the industrial door can now be colored.[14]
  • The docs got a full rewrite, with support for moddedmc.wiki content docs.[14]
  • Block API lookup caches were added, which improves the performance of pipes and generators.[14]
  • Ore amounts in boulders were slightly reduced, and the pulverizer recipe became cheaper by using iron instead of steel.[14]
  • Fixes included the mob spawner producing armed or equipped mob variants, the pump not always draining complex fluid bodies, jetpacks not loading with turbofuel, and quarry beam rendering issues.[14]

1.0.1

  • Crop filter addon compatibility with most modded crops was improved, and the augment hotkey moved to its own separate hotkey.[15]
  • Fixed crashes with oracle index 1.0.0 and with the latest version of ftb filters, plus a potential crash with some mods caused by unchecked level casts.[15]
  • Reactor ports (fuel and coolant) now drop their contents when broken.[15]

1.0.0

  • Compatibility with most chunk protection mods was improved for the enderic laser, railgun and nuke.[16]
  • Destroyer block beam rendering and machine gantry renderer smoothness were improved.[16]
  • Fixed addons attaching to the wrong machine when placed too close, and a rare crash in item insertion logic.[16]

0.19.5

  • Sheol fire fluid gained particles and entity damage.[17]
  • Missing nugget recipes and tags were added.[17]
  • Fixed a crash when placing ducted pipe variants.[17]

0.18.x

  • 0.18.2: reactor fuel and coolant ports now only accept the correct items, and mixin handling was fixed and cleaned up with help from @ChiefArug.[18]
  • 0.18.1: pumps now only extract the first fluid type they find, NeoForge fluid type registration was redone, and a crash with particle accelerators was fixed.[19]

0.17.3
