What is AllTheCompressed?

2 parts

AllTheCompressed adds compressed versions of everyday blocks, so you can store huge amounts of material in very little space. This pack ships version 4.4.0 of the mod. Instead of filling your base with chests of gravel, you combine 9 blocks into 1 compressed block. It works with a lot of different blocks, and each compressed block can be compressed even further.[1][2]

This mod is for you if you like big, resource-hungry builds. The quest book says it plainly: you'll need lots of materials, and compressing them is the answer to the storage problem. You meet it early, in the quest "Compressed Blocks" quest, which asks for Gravel 1x.[2]

Where it shows up in the pack

The ATM Star path

In Chapter 4, The ATM Star, the mod becomes a major requirement. The chapter has quests with compressed items as their tasks. These are Cobblestone 7x, Dirt 5x, Sand 5x, Gravel 5x, Oak Log 5x, Obsidian 5x, Block of Iron 5x, Block of Gold 5x and Block of Redstone 5x. Plan your storage and automation early, because you will be building toward these higher compression tiers.[5]

Unverified The exact compression recipes and the full list of compressible blocks are not confirmed by the sources for this section, so check them in-game (for example in JEI) before you plan around them. This site does hold All the Mods 10: To the Sky's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How do you get started with AllTheCompressed?

5 parts

AllTheCompressed lets you squash common blocks into compressed versions so you aren't stuck filling chest after chest. The pack's own quest explains the idea: you'll need lots of materials, so you can combine 9 blocks into 1 compressed block, and each compressed block can be compressed even further.[2]

First step: make your first compressed block

Start with Gravel 1x. The Chapter 1 quest "Compressed Blocks" quest asks for it, and it teaches the core idea. This works with a ton of different blocks.[2]

Crafting Shaped

Second step: make Obsidian 1x for Flux Dust

Next, make Obsidian 1x. The Chapter 2 quest "Crushing for Flux Dust" quest uses it as a stand-in for Bedrock when crushing Redstone for Flux Dust. You place it down, put normal Obsidian above it with a 1 block gap, throw the Redstone Dust between them, and left click the top Obsidian.[3]

Third step: get Soul Sand 1x for the VAT

In Chapter 3, the quest "VAT" quest uses Soul Sand 1x in the VAT. You mix it with a Warden Tendril in Lava to turn it into Soul Lava, which the quest calls an alternative way of getting Soul Lava. You can craft it from regular Soul Sand.[4][6]

The pack also adds other ways to get it from Sand 1x: a Create haunting recipe, an Actually Additions laser recipe, and an Ex Deorum barrel mixing recipe that uses Witch Water.[6]

Fourth step: push up to the 5x tier

The Chapter 4 quests ask for 5x versions of several materials: Dirt, Sand, Gravel, Oak Log, Block of Iron, Block of Gold, Block of Redstone and Obsidian. Cobblestone is the exception, where the quest asks for 7x. Each of these has its own compress recipe that turns the tier below into the next one. Here is the Gravel one as an example.[5][6]

Gravel 5xMod recipe

Crafting Shaped

9 × Gravel 4x

Recipe id: allthecompressed:compress/gravel_5x

The other 5x quest items each have their own compress recipe in the same style.

Tip: Don't panic if you overshoot. The mod has decompress recipes that turn a higher tier back down, for example Obsidian 2x back into Obsidian 1x.[6]

Shortcut: crush into Gravel and Sand

The pack adds crushing recipes that turn compressed Cobblestone, Andesite, Diorite and Granite into Gravel at the same tier, in both the 1x and 5x versions. It also turns Gravel 5x into Sand 5x. You can do this with Create crushing, Mekanism crushing or the Ex Deorum compressed hammer.[6]

How does AllTheCompressed work?

2 parts

Here's the honest picture for this one: in this pack, the sources I have only show AllTheCompressed as a set of compressed blocks made by hand in a crafting grid. There are no machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item automation described anywhere in them.[6]

Compression happens in the crafting grid

Every compression recipe I can see is a shaped crafting recipe, so you don't need any special machine. They all live under the compress recipe path of the mod and are named after the tier they produce, from 1x up to 9x.[6]

The tiers form a chain. The 1x item is made from the plain base block, and every tier after that is made from the tier directly below it. So to get a 9x block you have to build every step from 1x to 8x first. You can't skip tiers.[6]

Acacia is a good example. The first step turns a vanilla acacia log into Acacia Log 1x, and the next step turns that into Acacia Log 2x.[6]

The first step of the chain starts from the vanilla acacia log.

Later steps use the tier directly below as the input.

Planks work the same way, running from Acacia Planks 1x up to Acacia Planks 9x.[6]

Recipes the pack changed

Not every chain is a plain mod default. The pack changed the recipes for the Allthemodium and Aluminum chains, while the acacia recipes are shown as the mod's own.[6]

The Allthemodium chain starts from the Block of Allthemodium (Block of Allthemodium) and produces Allthemodium Block 1x. Each later tier, up to Allthemodium Block 9x, is built from the previous one.[6]

Crafting Shaped

9 × Block of Allthemodium

Recipe id: allthecompressed:compress/allthemodium_block_1x

This recipe is changed by the pack and starts from the Block of Allthemodium.

The Aluminum chain is a bit more flexible at the start. Aluminum Block 1x accepts any block from the common aluminum storage block tag, so it isn't tied to one mod's aluminum block. After that it continues with Aluminum Block 2x and the higher tiers.[6]

Crafting Shaped

9 × any aluminum storage block

Recipe id: allthecompressed:compress/aluminum_block_1x

This recipe is changed by the pack and accepts any block in the aluminum storage block tag.

Tip: The recipe dump I have is truncated, so I can only confirm the chains for acacia logs, acacia planks, Allthemodium and Aluminum.[6]

Unverified Anything beyond crafting-table compression is unconfirmed: whether the compressed blocks have special properties, whether they can be uncompressed again, how they behave with automation, and whether any config options exist. The sources here show no guidebook, tooltips or config files for this mod.

How do you progress through AllTheCompressed?

4 parts

In AllTheCompressed, the tiers are just how many times a block has been compressed. As the "Compressed Blocks" quest quest puts it, you combine 9 blocks into 1 compressed block, and each of those can be compressed even further. The pack's quests then ask for specific tiers of specific materials.[2]

How the tiers work

Every material runs on the same ladder. A normal block becomes the 1x version, 1x becomes 2x, and so on up to 9x. Acacia logs show the full chain: a plain log becomes Acacia Log 1x, and each later step uses the tier below it, all the way to Acacia Log 9x.[6]

Acacia Log 2xMod recipe

Crafting Shaped

9 × Acacia Log 1x

Recipe id: allthecompressed:compress/acacia_log_2x

Each step up the ladder follows this pattern, using the tier below.

Going the other way, shapeless decompress recipes turn a higher tier back into the one below it. One example turns Gravel 2x into Gravel 1x.[6]

Watch out: The Allthemodium and Aluminum compression chains are marked as changed by the pack. Don't assume the mod's default recipes for those two. Check the recipe viewer, for example for Allthemodium Block 1x and Aluminum Block 1x.[6]

Early tiers: 1x

Your first contact with the mod is the Compressed Blocks quest in Chapter 1. It asks for Gravel 1x, which you make from plain gravel.[2][6]

Gravel 1xMod recipe

Crafting Shaped

9 × Gravel

The "Crushing for Flux Dust" quest quest in Chapter 2 uses Obsidian 1x as a stand-in for Bedrock. Put it down with normal obsidian above it and a 1 block gap, throw redstone dust between them, and left click the top obsidian to crush it into Flux Dust.[3]

In Chapter 3, the "VAT" quest quest uses Soul Sand 1x. You mix it with a Warden Tendril in lava to make Soul Lava.[4]

The 5x milestone in Chapter 4

Chapter 4 is where the quests push you up the ladder. Each quest asks you to hand in one compressed block, and almost all of them are at the 5x tier.[5]

The 5x step for these blocks is a shaped crafting recipe that takes the 4x version. Gravel is a good example.[6]

Shortcuts for gravel, sand and soul sand

The pack adds machine and hammer recipes that skip the hand crafting for some materials. Compressed cobblestone, granite, andesite and diorite can be turned into gravel of the same tier. Create crushing, Mekanism crushing and the Ex Deorum compressed hammer all do this for both 1x and 5x. Gravel 5x can then be crushed into Sand 5x the same ways.[6]

How does AllTheCompressed work with other mods?

2 parts

AllTheCompressed is mostly a bridge to other mods. Its compress and decompress recipes in this pack all work on blocks from somewhere else, and the recipe dump lists every one of them as changed by the pack. Gravel, cobblestone and the like are covered by the quests below, but the real variety is in the modded blocks.[6]

Which mods get compressed blocks

Here is how a compress recipe looks in the pack, using the Allthemodium block as the example.[6]

Quests that use compressed blocks

The first quest to look at is "Compressed Blocks" quest, in Chapter 1. It explains the idea: since this is an ATM pack and you need lots of materials, you combine 9 blocks into 1 compressed block, and each compressed block can be compressed even further.[2]

"Crushing for Flux Dust" quest in Chapter 2 connects AllTheCompressed with Flux Networks. Flux Dust normally comes from crushing redstone against Bedrock with Obsidian. You don't have Bedrock, so the quest has you use Obsidian 1x as a stand-in. Place it with normal Obsidian above it and a 1 block gap, throw the redstone between them, then left-click the top Obsidian to crush it.[3]

In Chapter 3, "VAT" quest uses the Ender IO VAT. The quest says to mix Soul Sand 1x with a Warden Tendril in Lava to turn it into Soul Lava, as an alternative to drilling for it.[4]

Chapter 4, The ATM Star, asks you to hand in compressed versions of basic materials. The quests want Block of Redstone 5x, Block of Iron 5x, Block of Gold 5x, Obsidian 5x, Sand 5x, Gravel 5x, Dirt 5x, Oak Log 5x and Cobblestone 7x.[5]

Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use AllTheCompressed?

4 parts

AllTheCompressed shows up in four quest chapters in this pack. Two are short, single-quest stops. The last one is a whole set of compressed-block turn-ins. Here they are in chapter order.[2][3][4][5]

Chapter 1: Starting out

Your first contact is "Compressed Blocks" quest. It asks you to hand in Gravel 1x. The quest explains the idea: you can combine 9 blocks into 1 compressed block instead of filling chest after chest, and compressed blocks can be compressed even further. It unlocks after an earlier quest in the same chapter.[2]

Chapter 2: The Cool Parts

"Crushing for Flux Dust" quest uses compressed blocks as a stand-in for Bedrock. The tasks are Obsidian, Obsidian 1x and Redstone. Place the compressed obsidian down, put normal obsidian above it with a 1 block gap, throw the redstone between them, then left click the top obsidian to crush it. That gives you Flux Dust.[3]

Chapter 3: AllTheModium

"VAT" quest is the alternative route to Soul Lava for anyone who would rather not drill. It asks for an VAT, Soul Sand 1x and a Warden Tendril. You mix the Soul Sand 1x with the Warden Tendril in Lava to turn it into Soul Lava. The quest itself admits this still involves a Warden.[4]

Chapter 4: The ATM Star

This chapter has the most compressed-block quests. Each of the nine has a single task: hand in one compressed block. None of them has a title in the quest data.[5]

Unverified The quest data doesn't show any required order between the nine Chapter 4 quests, so the list above is not a confirmed progression. The data also doesn't confirm what these quests reward or why they sit in the ATM Star chapter.
