All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.1.0 ships version 5.13.3 · First seen in 1.0
Ars Nouveau is a mod in All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.1.0, where it is version 5.13.3. Craft spells and construct magical automations (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)
Stuck? Why it might not be working
- Not enough source nearbyIn All the Mods 10 8.2, Ars Nouveau 5.13.1, Not enough source nearby means the loaded source jars in Manhattan range 10 add up to less than the recipe's source cost. The apparatus does not draw from one jar. One full jar is 10,000, which covers every enchantment the mod ships, and it does not cover the pack's alloy block at 90,000.Written for other versions than All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.1.0 ships. What is Ars Nouveau?
2 parts
Ars Nouveau is a magic mod where you build your own spells, craft magical artifacts and perform rituals. This pack ships version 5.13.3 of the mod. The mod's documentation is provided in-game through a Patchouli book, so you can look things up without leaving the world.[1][2]
The core idea is that you make spells out of glyphs. Your spell book is where you create and store them, and you open the 'Create a Spell' page with the C key. The Novice Spell Book only lets you use Tier 1 glyphs, so you upgrade it to get better ones.[1][3]
Where it sits in the quest book
The pack's quest book lists an Ars Nouveau chapter in the group "Mod specific Quests". It is chapter 35 of 54 in the book and lists 253 quests. The sources here do not show which chapters sit directly before or after it.[3]
The chapter opens with "Welcome to Ars Nouveau!" quest, then "Spell Books" quest. The quest book continues the spell book upgrades with "Mage's Spell Book" quest and "Archmage Spell Book" quest. The Archmage quest asks you to have killed the Wilden Chimera, through a ritual that uses a Ritual Brazier.[3]
In the quest book, "Archwood" quest is the next step on the main line. Several quests are set after it: "Imbuement Chamber" quest, "Scribe's Table" quest and a quest in "Ars Nouveau". The Imbuement Chamber quest is followed by "Source Gems" quest, and a quest in "Ars Nouveau" and "Ars Essence" quest come after that. The task of the Ars Essence quest lists essences from Ars Elemental as well as from Ars Nouveau.[3]
In the quest book, the glyph quests are each set after a quest named Tier 1 Glyphs, Tier 2 Glyphs or Tier 3 Glyphs.[3]
The ATM Star path
The ATM Star path uses 8 quests from this chapter, in a straight line. They run: Welcome, Spell Books, Archwood, Imbuement Chamber, Source Gems, "Sourcestone" quest, "Arcane Pedestals" quest and finally "Enchanting Apparatus" quest. The last one asks for the Enchanting Apparatus and the Arcane Core.[3]
Unverified The text of the other 179 quests in this chapter is not shown in the sources here. Check the Ars Nouveau chapter in the quest book for what they say.
How do you get started with Ars Nouveau?
4 parts
This pack's quest book has an Ars Nouveau chapter in the group "Mod specific Quests". Its first quests give you a good order to follow. Part of the chapter's text is not reproduced here, so check the quest book for anything this page skips.[3]
Step 1: Get a spellbook
"Welcome to Ars Nouveau!" quest opens the chapter and asks for a book. Ars Nouveau lets players craft their own spells. "Spell Books" quest comes next and asks for the Novice Spell Book.[1][3]
The Spell Books quest says to press the C key to open the "Create a Spell" page, and that this first book only covers the lowest glyph tier. The quest for the next upgrade, the Mage's Spell Book, says it raises your mana and mana regen and lets you use higher-tier glyphs. The quest for the Archmage Spell Book says you need to have killed the Wilden Chimera, a ritual done with a Ritual Brazier.[3]
Step 2: Make Source Gems
The Dowsing Rod, the Scribe's Table and the Imbuement Chamber all sit after the Archwood quest in the book. Its text is in the quest book.[3]
Start with the Imbuement Chamber. It makes the Source Gem, one of the main crafting items in Ars. The chamber needs Source to imbue items. It produces a small amount by itself and can also draw from Source Jars. Some recipes also want Arcane Pedestals placed around it.[3]
"Source Gems" quest asks for the Source Gem. Put Amethyst Shards into the chamber and they become Source Gems, as the recipe below shows. The quest text also names Lapis.[3][4]
The imbuement recipe that turns an amethyst shard into a Source Gem.
Essences are the next material to collect. "Ars Essence" quest asks for any one of them and calls them important for virtually every spell and Enchanting Apparatus recipe. Pack recipes do use them, for example the glyph recipe for Burst takes a Manipulation Essence.[3][4]
Step 3: Unlock glyphs
The Scribe's Table is how you get better spells. The quest says glyphs come in tiers and each one costs some experience and items. It describes the steps: right-click the table with your spellbook, search for the glyph you want and click Select. Then right-click the table with the required items and use the glyph to learn it. The quest also says the table can pull items from nearby inventories.[3]
Step 4: Store Source and build the crafting setup
The Source Jar quest says Source is the power system for machines, and that you can also move it with buckets or by picking up the jar. The Source Jar is the jar you store it in. The Sourcestone quest comes after Source Gems and says gems let you start crafting the machines from Sourcestone.[3]
Several Sourcelinks hang off the Source Jar quest. The Agronomic Sourcelink is a simple way to start generating Source. Place it near growing plants or saplings, and Archwood trees give more. Bonemealing does not produce Source.[3]

Next come Arcane Pedestal blocks. The quest asks you to make 8 of them and says they are needed for the Ritual Brazier and for crafting with the Enchanting Apparatus.[3]
The Enchanting Apparatus is a multiblock. Place an Arcane Core in the ground, put the Apparatus on top of it and surround it with Arcane Pedestals. It needs Source to work.[3]

Once the Apparatus is up, many items and rituals open. "Ritual Brazier" quest is the Ritual Brazier, which also comes after the Arcane Pedestals quest. To light it, use a Light spell on it. Check each ritual in the Tattered Tome (the Tattered Tome in this pack) by holding Ctrl on the Ritual Table while the book is in your inventory.[3][5]
How does Ars Nouveau work?
4 parts
Ars Nouveau is built around crafting your own spells, performing rituals and automating your base with magical servants. Its documentation is provided in-game by a Patchouli book. This section covers what the pack's sources actually confirm about its systems.[1]
Spirit jars and item automation
The Ars Ocultas integration adds compatibility between Occultism and Ars Nouveau. The headline feature is that Occultism spirits can work inside Containment Jars. They keep their normal behaviour and do not decay, which is why they suit automation.[6][7]
- A Spirit Jar automatically picks up any item in a 7x7 area centered on it that matches the spirit's filter. For crushing spirits, that means any ore the spirit can process.[7]
- You can also push items into the jar with a hopper or with starbuncles, and any pipe should work too. Right-clicking an item directly on the jar works as well.[7]
- A Crusher Spirit in a jar processes items on its own and flings the output out in a direction.[7]
- Janitor Spirits in jars automatically pick up nearby items and push them into an inventory next to the jar.[7]
Crafting stations and rituals
Several of the mod's gear items use the Enchanting Apparatus recipe type instead of a crafting table. In this pack that includes the Amulet of Mana Boost, the Belt of Levitation, the Alakarkinos Charm and the Ritual Brazier Relay. The recipe block below shows the relay.[4]

The Arcane Platform can be placed in any direction and can be used in place of a pedestal. It is crafted from a single Arcane Pedestal.[4][5]

The Alteration Table recipe is shown below, with the exact ingredients (including Magebloom Fiber) in the recipe block. Abjuration Essence can be used on the Scribe's Table to remove Prestidigitation from items.[4][5]

Spell glyphs and turrets
Glyph recipes use their own recipe type, ars_nouveau:glyph. Augments change how a glyph behaves. For example, on Burst, AoE increases the target radius, Dampen targets an empty sphere, and Sensitive targets blocks instead of entities.[4][5]
Accelerate also works as an augment, for example it increases the travel speed of Fangs.
The pack adds its own recipe for Glyph Wall, so check it here rather than relying on the mod's defaults.[4]

Berry bushes can also generate naturally in biomes from the berry_spawn tag, which lists only Ars Elemental forest and cave biomes such as the flourishing forest and the vexing caves.[8][9]
How do you progress through Ars Nouveau?
5 parts
Ars Nouveau has its own chapter in the quest book, in the group "Mod specific Quests". Most of the chapter is individual glyph pickups. The real progression is a short spine of quests, and everything else hangs off it.[3]
The ATM Star path also uses this chapter, running from "Welcome to Ars Nouveau!" quest through "Enchanting Apparatus" quest. In the ATM Star chapter, a Focus of Summoning quest lists the Enchanting Apparatus quest as its prerequisite.[3][10]
Step 1: Your spellbook tiers
After "Welcome to Ars Nouveau!" quest, the "Spell Books" quest quest asks you to get the Novice Spell Book. The quest describes it as the place where you create and store spells, opened with the C key for the spell creation page, and says it only allows Tier 1 Glyphs.[3]

Next is "Mage's Spell Book" quest, which asks for the Mage's Spell Book. The quest says this upgrade increases your mana and mana regen and lets you create and use Tier 2 Glyphs.[3]

The pack changes this upgrade recipe, so don't trust the mod's default.
The last tier is the Archmage Spell Book, from "Archmage Spell Book" quest. The quest says you must have killed the Wilden Chimera, which is a ritual done with a Ritual Brazier.[3]

The Archmage upgrade is the mod's own recipe.
The pack ships a replacement loot table for the Wilden boss, and it contains only a single empty entry.[11]
Step 2: The Scribe's Table and glyph tiers
The Scribe's Table quest ("Scribe's Table" quest) tells you this is how you unlock new glyphs for your spellbook. It says there are 3 tiers of glyphs, and that each one requires some experience and items. It also says the table attaches spells to Spell Parchments and can pull items from nearby inventories.[3]
- "Tier 1 Glyphs" quest: the quest says these glyphs require 3 levels of experience.[3]
- "Tier 2 Glyphs" quest: the quest says these glyphs require 5 levels of experience and a Mage's Spell Book.[3]
- "Tier 3 Glyphs" quest: the quest says these glyphs require 10 levels of experience and an Archmage Spell Book.[3]
The quest book files each glyph under its tier. For example, Glyph Harm and Glyph Leap sit under Tier 1, Glyph Accelerate and Glyph Extend Time under Tier 2, and Glyph Burst and Glyph Wall under Tier 3.[3]
Two glyph recipes differ from the mod. Glyph: Wall is a recipe the pack adds, and Glyph: Extract is a recipe the pack changed.[4]

Step 3: Source, pedestals and the Enchanting Apparatus
The core chain in the quest book runs in this order:[3]
- "Archwood" quest comes after Spell Books. The quest says you need this magical wood to gain further knowledge of spells.[3]
- "Imbuement Chamber" quest comes after Archwood and asks for the Imbuement Chamber. The quest says it makes Source Gems, produces a small amount of Source by itself, and can also use Source Jars as a power source.[3]
- "Source Gems" quest comes next. The quest says Lapis or Amethyst Shards put into the chamber convert to Source Gem over time.[3]
- "Sourcestone" quest follows, and then "Arcane Pedestals" quest. The quest asks you to make 8 Arcane Pedestal.[3]
- "Enchanting Apparatus" quest is next. The quest says to place an Arcane Core in the ground, put the Enchanting Apparatus on top, and surround it with pedestals, and that it requires Source to work.[3]

Side branches come off Source Gems. a quest in "Ars Nouveau" leads to the sourcelinks, and "Ars Essence" quest covers essences, which the quest calls important for virtually every spell and enchanting apparatus recipe. "Automating Source Gems" quest points you at Productive Bees to save time and space, and the pack changes a centrifuge recipe there that outputs a Source Gem and Wax.[3][4]
After the Apparatus
Many quests list the Enchanting Apparatus quest as their prerequisite. They include:[3]
- Spell gear: "Enchanter's Wand" quest, "Enchanter's Sword" quest, "Enchanter's Shield" quest, "Enchanter's Bow" quest and "Enchanter's Mirror" quest.[3]
- Mana gear: "The Amulets" quest, "Rings of Discount" quest, and the Belt of Levitation.[3]
- Magebloom line: "Magebloom Seed" quest, then "Magebloom Fiber" quest, then "Spell Parchment" quest, then "Runic Chalk" quest.[3]
- Familiars and helpers: "Summoning Help!" quest (the Dominion Wand), which leads to the Starbuncle, Wixie, Whirlsprig and Drygmy charm quests.[3]
- Turrets: "Basic Spell Turret" quest leads to "Timer Spell Turret" quest, "Adjustable Spell Turret" quest and "Enchanted Spell Turret" quest.[3]

"Ritual Brazier" quest comes after Arcane Pedestals. It is the gateway to the ritual quests, which all list the Ritual Brazier as their prerequisite. The quest recommends checking each ritual in the Worn Notebook, and says to light the brazier with a Light spell.[3]
Creative Source Jar
The Creative Source Jar has its quest in Chapter 5: Creative Items, which comes after "Beginning Of The End" quest. Its recipe is one the pack adds.[4][12]

How does Ars Nouveau work with other mods?
6 parts
Ars Nouveau is a hub for a lot of crossovers in this pack. Most of them show up as recipes in the Enchanting Apparatus or the Imbuement Chamber, where Ars items meet items from other mods. Below are the main links, grouped by mod. When the pack changed or added a recipe, I say so.[4]
Ars addons
- Ars Elemental: the pack has 48 armor upgrade recipes that turn Ars Nouveau gear, like Arcanist's Treads, into Ars Elemental armor, like Aethermancer's Boots. Several Ars Elemental recipes were changed by the pack: Lesser Focus of Air, Slipstream Current Elevator, Flashjack Charm, Spellcaster Bag and Glyph Spike. The recipe for Flashpine was added by the pack.[4]
- Ars Additions: adds Sourcestone decoration, with stonecutter recipes that turn Sourcestone into cracked variants and back again. The pack changed the recipes for Archwood Chain, Archwood Lantern and Advanced Dominion Wand.[4]
- Ars Caelum: adds Conjure Island rituals you can craft, such as Conjure Island: Blazing, Conjure Island: Village and Conjure Island: End Portal. They are built from Archwood logs and saplings. The in-game guide entries for these rituals only show text keys here, so I can't tell you what each island contains.[4][13][14][15]
- Ars Controle: adds the Portable Brazier Relay, the Temporal Stability Sensor and extra spell glyphs like Glyph Filter Above.[4]
Applied Energistics and logistics
Ars Énergistique links Source with ME networks. The ME Source Jar is an Enchanting Apparatus recipe that starts from an Ars Nouveau Source Jar. The recipes for ME Source Converter and MEGA Source Cell Housing were both changed by the pack. BBL Routers also connects: its Source Upgrade I recipe was changed by the pack to use an Ars Nouveau Source Gem Block.[4]
Enchanting Apparatus (ars_nouveau)
Energy Acceptor
4× Source Gem Block
- 4× any gold storage block
Recipe id: arseng:source_acceptor
The pack changed this recipe, so check the exact version here.
Source Jars from other mods
The Unobtainium Source Jar from AllTheModium comes from a recipe that the pack changed. The pack also added a recipe for the Creative Source Jar that uses the ATM Star from AllTheTweaks. The Ender Source Jar is a plain mod recipe from Ars Additions.[4]
Enchanting Apparatus (ars_nouveau)
Recipe id: allthemods:enchanting_apparatus/creative_source_jar
Added by the pack.
Occultism
Ars Ocultas is the Occultism bridge for Ars Nouveau. It adds compatibility between the two mods and many quality of life changes. Occultism spirits can work inside Containment Jar and do not decay there, which makes them handy for automation.[6][7]
- The recipe for the Sacrificial Altar was changed by the pack.[4]
- Spirit Attuned Gem can be made with an Ars Nouveau recipe, which the in-game guide describes as an alternate recipe when diamonds are scarce.[4][16]
- Silver and gold can be converted into each other. The pack changed the recipe that turns silver into Gold Ingot.[4][17]
Farming, Create and bees
- Ex Deorum: the pack changed the sieve and compressed sieve recipes that give you Sourceberry using a Flint Mesh. The Archwood Barrel recipe was also changed by the pack.[4]
- Create: Enchantment Industry: the pack changed the grinding recipe so one Experience Gem gives 3 Liquid Experience.[4]
- Create: the pack changed the cutting recipe so Stripped Flashing Archwood Wood gives 6 Archwood Planks.[4]
- Productive Bees: the pack changed the Enchanting Apparatus recipe for the Air Essence bee.[4]
- All The Arcanist Gear: adds the Flight, made in the Enchanting Apparatus.[4]
In the quest book
The Ars Nouveau chapter sits in the group "Mod specific Quests", as chapter 35 of 54, and has 253 quests. The Ars Essence quest says essence is needed for virtually every spell and Enchanting Apparatus recipe, which is why so many of the crossovers above use it.[3]
Unverified Most of the Ars Nouveau chapter text and other chapters that mention the mod (such as Occultism and Productive Bees) are in the quest book, but the sources here do not show what they say, so check them there.
Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Ars Nouveau?
5 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 guide
Everything for this mod lives in one chapter called Ars Nouveau. It runs from your first spellbook, through Source and the Enchanting Apparatus, to a long list of glyph, ritual and gear quests. The quest data I was given is cut off partway through, so the later part of the chapter may hold more quests than the ones below.[18]
Spellbooks
- "Spell Books" quest asks for the Novice Spell Book. It only lets you use Tier 1 Glyphs.[18]
- "Mage's Spell Book" quest asks for the Mage's Spell Book. It raises your mana and mana regen and unlocks Tier 2 Glyphs.[18]
- "Archmage Spell Book" quest asks for the Archmage Spell Book. The quest says you need to have killed the Wilden Chimera, which is a ritual done at a Ritual Brazier.[18]
Source and the core machines
After a quest called Archwood (not included in the sources I have), the chapter opens up. "Imbuement Chamber" quest asks for the Imbuement Chamber. Right behind it, "Source Gems" quest wants a Source Gem, made by putting Lapis or Amethyst Shards into the chamber.[18]
Archwood also leads to "Scribe's Table" quest for the Scribe's Table, which unlocks new glyphs in 3 tiers, and to a Dowsing Rod quest. Once you have Source Gems, "Ars Essence" quest asks you to get any one of the essences, and the quest says you need them for virtually every spell and Enchanting Apparatus recipe.[18]
Next come "Sourcestone" quest, then "Arcane Pedestals" quest, which asks for the Arcane Pedestal and suggests making 8 of them. After that is "Enchanting Apparatus" quest, which wants both the Enchanting Apparatus and the Arcane Core. The sources list this same run of quests (Spell Books through Enchanting Apparatus) as part of the ATM Star path.[18]
Source storage and power
Right after Source Gems you get a Storing Source quest for the Source Jar. Several power quests branch off it: the Volcanic Sourcelink, Vitalic Sourcelink, Agronomic Sourcelink and Mycelial Sourcelink. A Storing Potions quest for the Potion Jar also follows it. The Potion Jar leads on to the Alchemical Sourcelink.[18]
After the Enchanting Apparatus
Most of the gear quests unlock once you have the Enchanting Apparatus. They include the Enchanter's Wand, Enchanter's Sword, Enchanter's Bow, Enchanter's Shield and Enchanter's Mirror. Others ask for the Basic Spell Turret, Spell Prism, Dominion Wand, Magebloom Seed, Belt of Levitation and Belt of Unstable Gifts. There are also quests for the two Rings of Discount, the two mana Amulets, and foci such as the Focus of Summoning.[18]
The Focus of Summoning also has a separate quest in the ATM Star chapter, and that one also comes after the Enchanting Apparatus.[19]
"Drygmy Farming" quest is the trickiest quest. It asks for a Containment Jar plus an observation task, and it needs both the Enchanting Apparatus and the Containment ritual quest finished first. The quest text walks through the Drygmy setup: get a drygmy charm from a Lv4 Shady Wizard, then keep the jar within 10 blocks of the drygmy.[18]
Rituals and glyphs
"Ritual Brazier" quest comes after the Arcane Pedestals quest and asks for the Ritual Brazier. It then unlocks a long set of untitled quests, one per ritual item. They include Sanctuary, Fertility, Containment, Scrying, Summon Wilden, Harvest and Binding.[18]
The rest of the chapter is untitled glyph quests, each asking for a single glyph item. They follow the Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 Glyphs quests. Tier 1 examples are Glyph Harm and Glyph Leap. Tier 2 includes Glyph Heal and Glyph Aoe. Tier 3 includes Glyph Split and Glyph Lightning.[18]
What changed in Ars Nouveau between versions?
3 parts
All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.7 ships Ars Nouveau 5.13.3. The mod has been in the pack since 1.0 or earlier. Below are the notable changes from the mod's own changelogs, newest first, for the releases the sources cover.[2]
Releases 5.13.1 and 5.13.3
- 5.13.3: adds blocks to the Sable weight and volume tags, adds an extra safeguard for mobs pathfinding near Sable sublevels, and fixes glyph recipe documentation items not spinning smoothly.[20]
- 5.13.1: projectiles now keep their momentum when they interact with spell prisms. It also fixes a crash when glyph recipes have more than 10 items and fixes abjuration essence not clearing prestidigitation. Caster tome names and flavor text became translatable, and the documentation gained more relations.[21]
Releases 5.11.1 to 5.11.3
- 5.11.3: weather and time rituals can now work in other dimensions. A new config disables the conversion of Shady Villagers (it does not remove or disable existing ones). Spell arrows were fixed for pierce deflecting off entities, phasing through blocks, casting spells twice, and crashing when reloaded from a save.[22]
- 5.11.2: adds the Archwood Boat and Bundle interactions in the Bookwyrm Lectern UI. Source jars can now be linked to Turrets to direct source consumption. Spell damage calculations involving hex, fall damage and bastion effects were fixed, along with various Chimera AI and swimming problems.[23]
- 5.11.1: adds an Info icon to the spell crafting UI, covering spell import and export and the keybinds for moving glyphs between slots. A Clear button in the particle effects UI resets the particle timeline to its defaults. Glyphs going missing between pages when spell crafting was fixed too.[24]
Releases 5.10.3 to 5.10.6
- 5.10.6: adds a config to invert lectern scrolling, compatibility with LambDynamicLights, a blacklist for Intangible, and particle timeline support for caster tomes. Intangible no longer applies to blocks it shouldn't when used with AOE, and arcane pedestal names now survive a world reload.[25]
- 5.10.5: fixes a crash when going to the next spellbook page while searching, and fixes magical armor draining mana when there is nothing to repair. Underfoot can now target entities below the player and any player vehicles.[26]
- 5.10.4: the spellbook now shows glyphs as one contiguous list, and decoys render player capes. Fixes include a dupe with spell bows and infinity, summons that could not be dispelled, bubbles capturing sleeping players, and a memory leak when leaving and rejoining a world.[27]
- 5.10.3: the Vitalic sourcelink baby growth tick range is now 15, matching the other events. Fixes include amplify not increasing damage on wind shear, filters not stopping runes from casting, and Oculus compatibility with Sodium.[28]
