What is Ars Nouveau?
1 part
Ars Nouveau is a magic mod inspired by Ars Magicka. You build your own spells, craft magical artifacts and baubles, perform rituals, and power magical machines. It also lets you automate your base with adorable magical servants.[1]
It's for you if you want a magic playstyle where you design your own spells instead of just swinging a sword. The pack ships Ars Nouveau 5.10.3.[1][2]
Where it fits in the quest book
The pack has a dedicated ars_nouveau quest chapter. It opens with a spell book chain, and each quest in it asks you to obtain the item.[3]
- Start with the Novice Spell Book in a quest in "?".[3]
- Move up to the Mage's Spell Book (listed in-game as Mage's Spell Book) in a quest in "?".[3]
- Finish the chain with the Archmage Spell Book in a quest in "?".[3]
A second branch covers your early tools and the Source economy. It includes the Dowsing Rod in a quest in "?" and the Scribe's Table in a quest in "?". The Imbuement Chamber in a quest in "?" leads to the Source Gem in a quest in "?", which in turn leads to the Source Jar in a quest in "?".[3]
The chapter also has a large set of quests for individual spell glyphs, such as Glyph Split, Glyph Harm and Glyph Leap. Treat them as a checklist for expanding your spell options.[3]
How do you get started with Ars Nouveau?
2 parts
Ars Nouveau has its own quest chapter in this pack, and the order of those quests makes a handy roadmap. The mod's documentation lives in-game in a Patchouli book, so read that alongside the quests.[1][3]
The order the quests suggest
- Start with the Novice Spell Book (a quest in "?"). It leads on to the Mage's Spell Book and then the Archmage Spell Book quests.[3]
- Next come three quests that unlock together: the Dowsing Rod (a quest in "?"), the Scribe's Table (a quest in "?") and the Imbuement Chamber (a quest in "?"). Do them in whatever order suits you.[3]
- The Source Gem quest (a quest in "?") opens after the Imbuement Chamber.[3]
- The Source Gem opens two more quests: the Source Jar (a quest in "?") and Sourcestone (a quest in "?").[3]
- Sourcestone leads to the Arcane Pedestal (a quest in "?").[3]
- The Pedestal leads to the Enchanting Apparatus and Arcane Core quest (a quest in "?") and to the Ritual Brazier (a quest in "?").[3]
Here are the in-pack recipes I can confirm for that path. First, the Dowsing Rod:[4]

Then the Arcane Pedestal and the Arcane Core. The Core is a regular crafting-table recipe, so you can make it before you have an Enchanting Apparatus.[4]

What opens up afterwards
Once you have a Source Jar, the quests for the Potion Jar and several Sourcelinks unlock, including Volcanic Sourcelink, Vitalic Sourcelink, Agronomic Sourcelink and Mycelial Sourcelink. Here is the Agronomic Sourcelink:[3][4]

The Enchanting Apparatus quest unlocks quests for items such as the Magebloom Seed, the Enchanter's Wand and the Dominion Wand. Here is the recipe for the Mage's Spell Book:[3][4]

How does Ars Nouveau work?
4 parts
Ars Nouveau describes itself as a mod where you power magical machines and automate your base with adorable magical servants. Its documentation lives in the in-game Patchouli book, the Worn Notebook. That's also where the trouble starts in this pack: the guide entries for machines and automation only show untranslated placeholder text for me. So this section covers only what I can actually confirm, and I'd rather keep it short than guess.[1][5][6]
Pedestals and platforms
The Arcane Platform can be placed in any direction and can be used in place of a pedestal. That makes it handy when you need a pedestal-style block on a wall or ceiling instead of the floor. The regular Arcane Pedestal is the block it stands in for.[4][7]
Armor threads and tiers
Threads can be slotted into magical armor to give it extra effects. Armor can also be upgraded to new tiers, which unlock additional and more powerful thread slots. The Alteration Table has its own recipe in this pack, shown below.[4][7]

Spirit Jars and automation
The Ars Ocultas integration lets Occultism spirits work inside Containment Jars. They keep their original behavior and don't decay, which makes them well suited to automation. Here is how they handle items:[8][9]
- A Spirit Jar automatically picks up any item in a 7x7 area centered on it that matches the spirit's filter. For crushing spirits, that means any ore they can process.[9]
- You can push items into the jar with a hopper or with starbuncles, and any pipe should work too. You can also right-click an item directly on the jar.[9]
- Spirits in jars behave as they normally do. A Crusher Spirit, for example, processes items and flings the output in one of the directions.[9]
- Janitor Spirits in jars automatically try to pick up nearby items and push them into an inventory next to the jar.[9]
Pack recipe change: Archwood Chest
The Archwood Chest recipe has been changed by the pack, so don't rely on the mod's default recipe. The block below shows the exact in-pack version.[4]

Unverified I could not confirm from the available sources how the Source network works in this pack: how the sourcelinks such as the Agronomic Sourcelink and Alchemical Sourcelink generate Source, how relays move it, or what the Item Scroll: Allow does for item filtering. The guide text for these is missing, and no config files for the mod are available. Check the in-game notebook before you rely on any of it.
How do you progress through Ars Nouveau?
6 parts
Ars Nouveau in this pack is a branching tree, not a straight line. The quest chapter gives you a spell book chain, a Source setup chain, an Enchanting Apparatus branch with gear and rituals behind it, and a big pile of glyph quests. Here is how the pieces connect.[3]
Spell book chain
The book line starts with the Novice Spell Book (a quest in "?"), then the Mage's Spell Book (a quest in "?"), and ends with the Archmage Spell Book (a quest in "?"). Each quest unlocks after the previous one.[3]
You don't craft the later books from scratch. Each is an upgrade recipe that takes the previous book as an input.[4]

Source setup
Three quests hang off the same early parent: the Dowsing Rod (a quest in "?"), the Scribe's Table (a quest in "?") and the Imbuement Chamber (a quest in "?"). The chamber leads to the Source Gem (a quest in "?"), and the gem splits the path in two.[3]
- The Source Jar (a quest in "?") unlocks the sourcelink quests: Volcanic Sourcelink, Vitalic Sourcelink, Agronomic Sourcelink and Mycelial Sourcelink. It also unlocks the Potion Jar, which leads to the Alchemical Sourcelink.[3]
- Sourcestone (a quest in "?") leads to the Arcane Pedestal (a quest in "?"), which opens the next stage.[3]
Enchanting Apparatus and rituals
After the pedestal, one quest covers both the Enchanting Apparatus and the Arcane Core (a quest in "?"). Both are crafted in a normal crafting grid, and many pieces of gear after them are made on the apparatus itself.[3][4]

That quest opens a wide set of follow-ups: the Enchanter's Wand, Enchanter's Sword, Enchanter's Shield, Enchanter's Bow, Enchanter's Mirror, Belt of Levitation, Belt of Unstable Gifts, the two mana amulets, the two discount rings, the Jar of Light with the Jar of Voiding, the Magebloom Seed and the Dominion Wand.[3]
The Dominion Wand (a quest in "?") leads on to the familiar charms: Starbuncle Charm, Drygmy Charm, Whirlisprig Charm, Wixie Charm and Amethyst Golem Charm.[3]
The Magebloom line runs from the crop to Magebloom Fiber, then Spell Parchment, then Runic Chalk.[3]
The Ritual Brazier (a quest in "?") also comes after the pedestal, and it opens every ritual quest: Overgrowth, Fertility, Awakening, Warping, Restoration, Scrying, Summon Wilden, Moonfall, Disintegration, Sunrise, Burrowing, Cloudshaping, Binding, Challenge and Flight.[3]
The pack changed the Challenge ritual recipe, so don't rely on the mod default.[4]

Flight also has an alternative recipe that comes from Ars Elemental.[4]

Armor
The basic armor quest chapter has one full-set quest each for the Arcanist's, Battlemage's and Sorceror's sets. The Arcanist's and Battlemage's pieces are made on the Enchanting Apparatus, one recipe per piece. Here are the two robes as examples.[4][10]

Glyph quests
The glyph quests fall into three groups, each depending on a different parent quest. Examples are Glyph Harm and Glyph Break in the first group, Glyph Aoe and Glyph Heal in the second, and Glyph Blink and Glyph Wither in the third. Glyphs have their own recipe type, and some of them use an essence. Here is one simple example.[3][4]
Storage note
The storage quest accepts either a vanilla chest or the Archwood Chest. The pack changed the Archwood Chest recipe, so use this one.[4][11]

How does Ars Nouveau work with other mods?
5 parts
Ars Nouveau doesn't stand alone in this pack. Several addon mods plug straight into its Enchanting Apparatus, Imbuement Chamber and materials, and a couple of big tech and tree mods hook into its wood. Here's what the pack's recipes show.[4]
Ars Elemental
Ars Elemental adds the Air Infused Turret, the Advanced Spell Prism and the Acceleration Prism Lens next to Ars Nouveau's Enchanted Spell Turret and Spell Prism. The turret recipe is shown below.[4]
The Air Infused Turret recipe.
The Aethermancer's armor pieces, such as Aethermancer's Hat and Aethermancer's Boots, are part of this link too. The pack changed all four armor upgrade recipes, and it also changed the Slipstream Current Elevator recipe. Don't assume the mod's defaults here. Check the recipe below.[4]

2× Air Essence
- any magic boot
- any netherite ingot

Pack-changed armor upgrade. The hat, robes and leggings follow the same pattern.
Ars Additions
Ars Additions adds a lot of Apparatus recipes on top of Ars Nouveau items. The pack changed the Advanced Dominion Wand, which upgrades the Dominion Wand. It also changed the Jar of Miner's Wisdom.[4]

This recipe was changed by the pack.
The pack also changed the decorative lantern and chain recipes, including the Archwood Lantern, Magelight Lantern, Archwood Chain and Sourcestone Chain. They are built from Ars Nouveau archwood planks, sourcestone and source gems.[4]
The other sourcestone building blocks (doors, trapdoors, walls and buttons) are mod-default recipes. You can also stonecut sourcestone into cracked and brick variants. The Locate Structure ritual item is made with a Vexing Archwood Log among its ingredients.[4]
Ars Caelum island rituals
The Ars Caelum addon adds the Conjure Island rituals, such as Conjure Island: Village and Conjure Island: End Portal. Their recipes are built mostly from Ars Nouveau's coloured archwood logs and saplings, including Vexing Archwood Log and Cascading Archwood Log. It also adds Mana Regeneration and Sedimentation.[4]
Allthemodium and spell gear
The Allthemodium Spell Book is a smithing upgrade of the Archmage Spell Book, and the pack changed this recipe.[4]

Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Ars Nouveau?
6 parts
Ars Nouveau has its own quest chapter in the pack, and a few of its items also show up in other chapters. Every quest here is untitled, so you'll know them by their reference. Each task is just the item named, and the order below follows the prerequisite links in the quest data.[3][10][11][12]
The Ars Nouveau chapter: spell books
The spell book line is a straight chain. a quest in "?" asks for the Novice Spell Book and comes after a quest that isn't part of this chapter. Then a quest in "?" asks for the Mage's Spell Book, and a quest in "?" finishes the line with the Archmage Spell Book.[3]
Machines, Source and sourcelinks
Some quests unlock after the same earlier quest that sits outside this chapter: a quest in "?" (Dowsing Rod), a quest in "?" (Scribe's Table) and a quest in "?" (Imbuement Chamber).[3]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Source Gem and follows the Imbuement Chamber quest.[3]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Source Jar. a quest in "?" asks for Sourcestone. Both follow the Source Gem quest.[3]
- The sourcelink quests follow the Source Jar: a quest in "?" (Volcanic Sourcelink), a quest in "?" (Vitalic Sourcelink), a quest in "?" (Agronomic Sourcelink) and a quest in "?" (Mycelial Sourcelink).[3]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Potion Jar, and a quest in "?" then asks for the Alchemical Sourcelink.[3]
Apparatus, gear and familiars
From Sourcestone, a quest in "?" asks for the Arcane Pedestal. After it comes a quest in "?", which needs both the Enchanting Apparatus and the Arcane Core. The Pedestal quest also leads to a quest in "?", the Ritual Brazier.[3]
These quests all unlock after the Apparatus and Core quest. The first batch is below.[3]
- a quest in "?" (Belt of Unstable Gifts), a quest in "?" (the Ring of Lesser Discount and Ring of Greater Discount), a quest in "?" (Enchanter's Wand), a quest in "?" (Enchanter's Sword) and a quest in "?" (Enchanter's Shield).[3]
- a quest in "?" (Belt of Levitation), a quest in "?" (Enchanter's Bow), a quest in "?" (Enchanter's Mirror), a quest in "?" (Amulet of Mana Boost and Amulet of Mana Regen) and a quest in "?" (Jar of Light and Jar of Voiding).[3]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Dominion Wand. The familiar charm quests follow it: a quest in "?" (Starbuncle Charm), a quest in "?" (Wixie Charm), a quest in "?" (Whirlisprig Charm), a quest in "?" (Drygmy Charm) and a quest in "?" (Amethyst Golem Charm).[3]
- A crafting-material line runs a quest in "?" (Magebloom Seed), then a quest in "?" (Magebloom Fiber), then a quest in "?" (Spell Parchment), then a quest in "?" (Runic Chalk).[3]
Rituals
All the ritual quests unlock after the Ritual Brazier quest: a quest in "?" (Overgrowth), a quest in "?" (Fertility), a quest in "?" (Awakening), a quest in "?" (Warping), a quest in "?" (Restoration), a quest in "?" (Scrying), a quest in "?" (Summon Wilden), a quest in "?" (Moonfall), a quest in "?" (Disintegration), a quest in "?" (Sunrise), a quest in "?" (Burrowing), a quest in "?" (Cloudshaping), a quest in "?" (Binding), a quest in "?" (Challenge) and a quest in "?" (Flight).[3]
Glyph quests
Most of the chapter is one quest per glyph, each asking for that glyph item. They hang off three parent quests that aren't part of this chapter, so they fall into three groups. Here is a sample from each.[3]
- First group: a quest in "?" (Glyph Harm), a quest in "?" (Glyph Leap), a quest in "?" (Glyph Amplify), a quest in "?" (Glyph Craft), a quest in "?" (Glyph Break), a quest in "?" (Glyph Light), a quest in "?" (Glyph Summon Wolves) and a quest in "?" (Glyph Launch), among others.[3]
- Second group: a quest in "?" (Glyph Aoe), a quest in "?" (Glyph Heal), a quest in "?" (Glyph Explosion), a quest in "?" (Glyph Fortune), a quest in "?" (Glyph Smelt), a quest in "?" (Glyph Extend Time) and a quest in "?" (Glyph Firework), among others.[3]
- Third group, part one: a quest in "?" (Glyph Split), a quest in "?" (Glyph Linger), a quest in "?" (Glyph Lightning), a quest in "?" (Glyph Fangs), a quest in "?" (Glyph Summon Vex) and a quest in "?" (Glyph Summon Decoy).[3]
- Third group, part two: a quest in "?" (Glyph Hex), a quest in "?" (Glyph Glide), a quest in "?" (Glyph Wither), a quest in "?" (Glyph Orbit), a quest in "?" (Glyph Blink), a quest in "?" (Glyph Intangible) and a quest in "?" (Glyph Summon Undead).[3]
Other chapters
- The basic_armor chapter has quests with no prerequisite listed, each asking for a full armor set: a quest in "?" (Arcanist, starting with the Arcanist's Hat), a quest in "?" (Battlemage, starting with the Battlemage's Hood) and a quest in "?" (Sorcerer, starting with the Sorceror's Collar).[10]
- In building_tips, a quest in "?" is satisfied by Glyph Light or by any one of several magelight lanterns from the ars_additions namespace.[12]
- In storage, a quest in "?" accepts a plain chest or the Archwood Chest.[11]
What changed in Ars Nouveau between versions?
1 part
All the Mods 10: To the Sky 1.0.2 ships Ars Nouveau 5.10.3, built for Minecraft 1.21.1. The mod has been in the pack since 1.0 or earlier. I don't have pack changelog entries for it, so this section only covers the mod's own 5.10.3 changelog.[2]
Ars Nouveau 5.10.3
This is the version you get in 1.0.2. The mod's changelog lists these changes:[2][13]
- The Vitalic sourcelink baby growth tick range is now 15, matching the other events.[13]
- Fixes Oculus compatibility with Sodium.[13]
- Fixes Amplify not increasing damage on Wind Shear.[13]
- Fixes filters not preventing runes from casting.[13]
- Fixes rendering of the Scribes Table and Mirrorweave.[13]
If you build with runes, the filter fix matters: filters now stop runes from casting the way you set them up. The Amplify fix likewise means your Wind Shear damage boosts now work.[13]
