What is Ars Additions?

2 parts

Ars Additions is an Ars Nouveau addon focused on small tweaks and quality of life additions. This pack includes version 1.21.1-21.3.0 of it.[1][2]

What you get

The mod page also lists a few structures and extras: Ruined Warp Portals, the Nexus Tower, the Warp Index for remote Storage Lectern access, and extra lantern, chain and Sourcestone decoration blocks.[1]

Where the quest book places it

Most of the mod sits in the Ars Nouveau chapter. The quests for Glyph Recall, Glyph Mark and Glyph Retaliate all come after Tier 3 Glyphs. "Ender Source Jar" quest is in the same chapter. "Functional Charms" quest comes after Enchanting Apparatus, and the Locate Structure ritual quest comes after Ritual Brazier.[3]

Two pieces appear in other chapters. The Source Spawner quest is in the Apothic Spawners chapter, and "Ars Nouveau Lights" quest is in the Building Tips chapter, where the Magelight Lanterns count toward it.[4][5]

Unverified The sources here do not show Ars Additions on the ATM Star quest path, and no in-jar guidebook was found for this mod.

How do you get started with Ars Additions?

4 parts

Ars Additions is an Ars Nouveau addon built around small tweaks and quality-of-life extras, so you can pick it up bit by bit as you progress through Ars Nouveau in this pack. Here's the order I'd tackle things in.[1]

Step one: light up your base with Magelight Lanterns

Magelights are light sources made of pure magic. You can place them with spells, or you can place a Magelight Lantern instead. The Ars Nouveau Lights quest "Ars Nouveau Lights" quest accepts any of the lantern variants, including Magelight Lantern, Golden Magelight Lantern, Archwood Magelight Lantern and Soul Magelight Lantern.[4]

The pack changes the recipes for these lanterns, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults. This is the in-pack recipe for the basic one:[6]

The pack also changes the recipes for the Sourcestone lantern and the Sourcestone chain. The Polished Sourcestone versions of the lanterns and chains are made by converting the plain Sourcestone ones. Magelight Lanterns come in Golden, Archwood, Sourcestone, Polished Sourcestone, Regular and Soul styles, so you can match whatever you're building.[1][6]

Step two: craft your first charms

Once you have the Enchanting Apparatus, the Functional Charms quest "Functional Charms" quest opens up. Charms are magical trinkets with protective and utility effects, and you can recharge them with Source. A charm's tooltip shows its charging progress.[3][7]

Charms are made at the Enchanting Apparatus. I'd start with the ones that save you from common deaths. Charm of Featherlight activates when you fall further than 3 blocks and gives you feather fall.[6][7]

Charm of Darkvision gives you Night Vision when you're in a low-light environment.[3][6][7]

When you're ready for something stronger, Charm of Second Wind prevents you from dying, and Charm of Void's Salvation teleports you back to the last safe space you were on.[3][6][7]

Recipe id: ars_additions:apparatus/undying_charm

Step three: move Source around with the Ender Source Jar

The Ender Source Jar is an entangled Source Jar. Linking jars with a Dominion Wand also links their Source capacity, which gives you instant transport. Think of it as an Ender Chest for Source: keep one in your base to fill it up, and carry another to reach that Source anywhere. The quest is "Ender Source Jar" quest.[1][3]

How does Ars Additions work?

6 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Ars Additions is an Ars Nouveau addon built around small tweaks and quality-of-life features, so you won't find big machines or multiblocks here. What it does add is a handful of systems for storing, moving and automating things with Source. Here's how each one works, as far as the sources explain it.[1]

Mark, Recall and the Reliquary

The Mark glyph is an Effect that stores a reference to a block or entity inside a Reliquary. To bind one, hold the Reliquary in your offhand and cast a spell with Mark. The Recall glyph is a Form that reads that stored target and casts the spell on it. The Reliquary can also show a broken tether in its tooltip.[1][8]

Retaliate is a Form that applies your spell to the last entity that dealt damage to you. The hit has to be within the last 5 seconds.[1][8]

Source and storage

  • Ender Source Jar: this works like an Ender Chest for Source. Place one in your base to fill it with Source, then carry another to reach that Source anywhere.[1]
  • Warp Index: gives you remote access to your Storage Lecterns. The upgraded (Stabilized) version adds cross-dimensional access. Its tooltip shows the coordinates and dimension it's bound to, and you open it with a keybind.[1][8]
  • Handy Haversack: its tooltip says to click items into the Haversack, or click the Haversack onto items.[8]

Automation

Use a Wixie Charm on an Enchanting Apparatus to turn it into a Wixie Enchanting Apparatus. It can automate Enchanting Apparatus recipes, including applying enchantments.[1]

The Wixie Cauldron also has a tooltip that reads "Output storage bound". The sources don't explain how that binding works, so check it in-game.[8]

Rituals and exploration

The Ritual of Arcane Permanence force-loads the chunks around it, and it needs a constant stream of Source to keep running. Another ritual locates a nearby structure based on the augments you give it.[8]

Ruined Warp Portals come with an Explorer's Warp Scroll. Throw it into the frame of a ruined warp portal, or press its keybind, to teleport. The tooltip shows whether it is still locating a structure, has located one, or failed to find one nearby.[1][8]

Unverified The mod's own description says the chunk-loading ritual is fully configurable and disabled by default. No config files for this mod were available for this pack, so whether it is enabled here, and what its limits are, is unverified.

Charms and perks

Ars Additions adds a set of charms that give passive protection. The Fall Prevention Charm grants feather fall when you fall further than 3 blocks. The Undying Charm lets you keep going after fatal damage. The Void Protection Charm teleports you back to the last safe space you were on. Charm tooltips can also show a charging progress.[8]

The Thread Reach perk increases your entity and block interaction distances by 1 for each level.[8]

What the pack changes

The pack changes the crafting recipes for the mod's chains and for most of its lanterns, including the Magelight variants. Don't rely on the mod's default recipes for these. Here is the in-pack recipe for the Magelight Lantern.[9]

Unverified The pack has shapeless "clear" recipes for the Handy Haversack, the Advanced Dominion Wand and the Jar of Miner's Wisdom. The sources don't say what they do, so their exact effect is unverified.

How do you progress through Ars Additions?

4 parts

Ars Additions doesn't have a strict tier ladder in this pack. Instead, its items are spread across the Ars Nouveau, Apothic Spawners and Building Tips quest chapters. Here's the order those quests put them in, from your first light sources to the late-game glyphs and rituals.[3][4][5]

Early game: lights and charms

The first thing you'll meet is the "Ars Nouveau Lights" quest quest in Building Tips. It accepts the Glyph of Light or any of the magelight lanterns: Magelight Lantern, Golden Magelight Lantern, Sourcestone Magelight Lantern, Polished Sourcestone Magelight Lantern, Archwood Magelight Lantern or Soul Magelight Lantern. A lantern lets you place a Magelight without casting a spell.[4]

The pack has changed the crafting recipes for the basic, golden, archwood, soul and sourcestone magelight lanterns, so don't rely on the mod's defaults. Here's the basic one as it works in this pack.[6]

The pack also adds a Create sandpaper polishing recipe that turns the Sourcestone Magelight Lantern into the polished version.[6]

Sandpaper Polishing (create)

Next up is "Functional Charms" quest, which unlocks after the Enchanting Apparatus quest. You complete it by obtaining any one of the charms, for example Charm of Emberward, Charm of Second Wind, Charm of Ocean's Breath or Charm of Darkvision. Charms give protective and utility effects, and you can recharge them with Source.[3]

The charm recipes I checked are all crafted in the Enchanting Apparatus, and none of them is marked as changed by the pack. Here's the Charm of Second Wind as an example.[6]

Mid game: source logistics and spawners

The "Ender Source Jar" quest quest rewards automation. The Ender Source Jar is an entangled Source Jar: link two of them with a Dominion Wand and their source capacity is shared, giving you instant transport.[3]

The pack has also changed the recipe for the Advanced Dominion Wand, so check the in-pack version before you plan around it.[6]

Over in the Apothic Spawners chapter, a quest in "Apothic Spawners" covers the Source Spawner. It runs on Source as fuel. To choose which mob it spawns, you need a Containment Jar holding that mob in the area.[5]

Late game: glyphs and rituals

Three quests in the Ars Nouveau chapter unlock after the Tier 3 Glyphs quest, one for each new glyph: a quest in "Ars Nouveau" for Glyph Mark, a quest in "Ars Nouveau" for Glyph Recall and a quest in "Ars Nouveau" for Glyph Retaliate. Their recipes are unchanged mod recipes.[3][6]

Tip: Before you craft anything from this mod, open its recipe in the recipe viewer. The pack has changed several of its recipes, so the mod's defaults may not match what you see in game.[6]

Unverified Whether Ars Additions sits on the main ATM Star quest path isn't confirmed by any source here, and no in-jar guidebook was found, so treat the order above as a quest-based guide only.

How does Ars Additions work with other mods?

5 parts

Ars Additions is an addon for Ars Nouveau, so almost every connection in this pack runs through it. The recipes and quests below use Ars Nouveau items, plus a few vanilla ones.[1][6]

Enchanting Apparatus crafts

Most of the mod's big items are made on Ars Nouveau's Enchanting Apparatus. That covers the Ender Source Jar, Source Spawner, Warp Index, Unstable Reliquary, the Reach thread and the Charm of Void's Salvation.[6]

The Ender Source Jar has its own quest, "Ender Source Jar" quest. It is an entangled Source Jar, and linking them with a Dominion Wand also links their source capacity, providing instant transport.[3]

The Source Spawner shows up in the Apothic Spawners quest chapter as Ars Nouveau's spawner, in a quest in "Apothic Spawners". It runs on Source as fuel, and you need a Containment Jar holding the mob in the area to choose what it spawns.[5]

Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Ars Additions?

3 parts

Ars Additions shows up in quests across three chapters of the pack: Ars Nouveau, Apothic Spawners and Building Tips. Most of it is in the Ars Nouveau chapter, so we'll start there.[3][4][5]

Ars Nouveau chapter

Here the quests are tied together by what you need to finish first. The three glyph quests all unlock after the Tier 3 Glyphs quest, and the rest hang off other Ars Nouveau milestones.[3]

The charm quest describes them as magical trinkets with protective and utility effects. You can recharge them with Source, and they can do things like nullify fire damage, prevent death or let you breathe underwater.[3]

The Ender Source Jar quest is the automation one. The jar is an entangled Source Jar, so linking them with a Dominion Wand also links their source capacity and gives you instant transport.[3]

Apothic Spawners chapter

a quest in "Apothic Spawners" is titled Ars Nouveau's Spawner and asks for the Source Spawner. It unlocks after another quest in that chapter (id 0F0E227FC3EC0D90), which the sources don't name. The spawner uses Source as fuel. To pick which mob it spawns, you'll need a Containment Jar holding that mob in the area.[5]

Building Tips chapter

"Ars Nouveau Lights" quest covers Magelights, which are light sources made of pure magic. You can place them with spells, or use a Magelight Lantern instead. The task accepts the Light glyph from Ars Nouveau or any one of these lanterns: Magelight Lantern, Golden Magelight Lantern, Sourcestone Magelight Lantern, Polished Sourcestone Magelight Lantern, Archwood Magelight Lantern or Soul Magelight Lantern. It unlocks after another quest in the chapter (id 2094D1CE4BA66091), which the sources don't name.[4]

Which Ars Additions config options matter?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 0.53 guide

Ars Additions doesn't have a long list of settings to tweak, and the pack's config files for this mod aren't available to me. So I can't tell you the exact values this pack uses, and I won't guess at them.[1]

Ritual of Arcane Permanent (chunkloading)

The one setting the mod's project page calls out is the Ritual of Arcane Permanent. It chunkloads the area around it, and the page says it is fully configurable and disabled by default. That describes the mod's own default, not necessarily this pack's setup.[1]

Unverified Whether this pack enables the Ritual of Arcane Permanent, and what chunkloading limits or other values it sets, could not be confirmed. Check the in-game behavior or the pack's config folder before building around it.

Higher-tier Codex Entries

The project page says Tier 1 Codex Entries show up in basic dungeon loot, while higher tiers are unobtainable by default. That is the mod's default behavior. It isn't confirmed whether this pack changes how higher tiers are obtained.[1]
