Ars Nouveau is a mod in All the Mods 10 8.3, where it is version 5.13.3. Craft spells and construct magical automations (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)
Stuck? Why it might not be working
- Not enough source nearbyIn All the Mods 10 8.2, Ars Nouveau 5.13.1, Not enough source nearby means the loaded source jars in Manhattan range 10 add up to less than the recipe's source cost. The apparatus does not draw from one jar. One full jar is 10,000, which covers every enchantment the mod ships, and it does not cover the pack's alloy block at 90,000.Written for other versions than All the Mods 10 8.3 ships. What is Ars Nouveau?
2 parts
Ars Nouveau is a magic mod inspired by Ars Magicka, and it's all about building your own spells. You craft spells to fit your needs, then cast them anywhere. On top of that you get magical artifacts, baubles and trinkets, rituals, magical machines to power, and adorable magical servants that can automate parts of your base.[1]
All the Mods 10 8.1 ships Ars Nouveau version 5.13.1, and the mod has been in the pack since at least 2.25, so it's a well-established part of the modpack.[2]
If you'd rather solve problems with custom spells than with big tech machines, or you just want cute creatures moving your items around, this is the mod for you. You also don't need to alt-tab much, because the mod's documentation is written entirely in-game as a Patchouli book.[1]
How progression works in this pack
The pack has its own Ars Nouveau quest chapter that walks you through the core loop. You make Source Gems, unlock glyphs, and upgrade your spellbook so you can use stronger glyphs.[3]
- Craft a Novice Spell Book for the "Spell Books" quest quest. Press C to open the Create a Spell page. This book only lets you create and use Tier 1 glyphs.[3]
- Build an Imbuement Chamber to start making Source Gem, one of the mod's main crafting items. The chamber runs on Source. It makes a little on its own and can also draw from Source Jars.[3]
- Get a Scribe's Table to unlock new glyphs. There are 3 tiers of glyphs, and each glyph costs some experience plus items. The table can pull items from nearby inventories.[3]
- Upgrade to the Mage's Spell Book. It gives you more mana and mana regen and lets you create and use Tier 2 glyphs.[3]
- The final book is the Archmage Spell Book. To make it you must first kill the Wilden Chimera, which you summon with a ritual on a Ritual Brazier.[3]
The ATM Star path
Ars Nouveau is part of the pack's endgame too. In Chapter 3: The ATM Star, the "Ars Nouveau" quest quest asks for a Source Gem. After that, "Glyph of Wither" quest asks you to make a Glyph Wither. So if you're heading for the ATM Star, you'll need at least a working Source Gem setup and the means to craft that glyph.[4]
How do you get started with Ars Nouveau?
7 parts
Ars Nouveau is a magic mod where you craft your own spells, build magical artifacts, perform rituals and power magical machines. All of its documentation lives in-game, so the first thing to grab is the Worn Notebook, which works as your in-game guide.[1]
Step 1: Your first spellbook
The quest line starts by asking you to craft a Novice Spell Book in "Spell Books" quest. This is where you create and store your spells. Press the C key to open the 'Create a Spell' page. The main tabs on the left are Spell Creation, Color Picker and Familiars. The Novice book only lets you create and use Tier 1 Glyphs, so you will want to upgrade it later.[3]
Step 2: The Scribe's Table
To cast better spells, you need a Scribe's Table to unlock new glyphs for your book (a quest in "Ars Nouveau"). There are 3 tiers of glyphs, and each glyph costs some experience and items.[3]
- Right-click the Scribe's Table with your spellbook, search for the glyph you want, and click Select at the bottom.[3]
- Right-click the table with the required items to create the glyph.[3]
- Use the glyph to learn it.[3]
Step 3: Imbuement Chamber and Source Gems
The Source Gem is one of the main crafting items in Ars, and you make it in an Imbuement Chamber (a quest in "Ars Nouveau"). The chamber needs Source to imbue items. It produces a small amount by itself, and it can also draw from Source Jars. Some of its recipes also need Arcane Pedestals placed around it.[3]
For "Source Gems" quest, put Lapis or Amethyst Shards into the Imbuement Chamber. Over time they convert into Source Gems.[3]
Step 4: Storing Source
Source is Ars Nouveau's power system for machines. To start collecting it, make a Source Jar (a quest in "Ars Nouveau"). You can move Source with buckets, or by breaking a Source Jar and picking it up.[3]
Step 5: Sourcestone and Arcane Pedestals
Once you have Source Gems, make Sourcestone ("Sourcestone" quest), which you need to craft the mod's machines. Then build Arcane Pedestals ("Arcane Pedestals" quest). They are needed for the Ritual Brazier and for crafting with an Enchanting Apparatus. The quest suggests making 8 of them.[3]

Next goal: upgrade your spellbook
When you are ready for more power, upgrade to the Mage's Spell Book (a quest in "Ars Nouveau"). It increases your overall mana and mana regen, and it lets you create and use Tier 2 Glyphs.[3]

How does Ars Nouveau work?
7 parts
Ars Nouveau isn't only about crafting your own spells. It also lets you power magical machines and automate your base with adorable magical servants. What ties these together is Source, the magical resource your machines and creatures eat up as they work. This section covers the systems the pack's files and in-game notes actually explain, and it uses the exact values All the Mods 10 8.1 ships with.[1][5]
The Potion Melder
The Potion Melder draws potion from input jars, spends Source and outputs a potion each cycle. Potion amounts are measured so that 100 equals 1 potion.[5]
- Each cycle the melder takes 200 from each input jar, set by block.melderInputCost.[5]
- It outputs 100 per cycle, so you get 1 potion each time. This is set by block.melderOutput.[5]
- It consumes 300 Source per cycle, set by block.melderSourceCost. Keep it well supplied if you want it running nonstop.[5]
Drygmy mob farming
Drygmys produce mob loot over time, and they pay for it in Source. Here's how the numbers work in this pack.[5]
- A drygmy has to channel 20 times before it produces loot, set by drygmy_production.drygmyMaxProgress.[5]
- Each generation costs 1,000 Source, set by drygmy_production.drygmyManaCost.[5]
- The base output is 1 item per cycle before bonuses, set by drygmy_production.drygmyBaseItems.[5]
- Nearby entities add bonus items, 1 item per entity, up to a cap of 5. The cap is set by drygmy_production.drygmyQuantityCap.[5]
- Each unique mob type adds a bonus of 2 items, set by drygmy_production.drygmyUniqueBonus.[5]
Whirlisprigs
Whirlisprigs build up progress before they create resources. In this pack they need 250 progress, set by general.whirlisprigProgress. Each generation also costs them 250 Source, set by general.sylphManaCost.[5]
Storage Lectern and Bookwyrms
The Storage Lectern connects to your inventories through Bookwyrms. Each Bookwyrm lets the lectern support 8 inventories, set by general.bookwyrmLimit. So if your storage grows, you'll want more Bookwyrms. The lectern also shows a recipe book icon, because overlays.showRecipeBook is turned on.[5][6]
Pedestals, platforms and cores
The Arcane Platform is made from an Arcane Pedestal. You can place it facing any direction, and it works anywhere you'd use a pedestal, which is handy when a vertical or sideways layout suits your build better.[7][8]

Spirit Jars with Occultism
Thanks to the Ars Ocultas integration, spirits from Occultism can live inside Containment Jars. They keep their normal behaviour and don't decay, which makes them great for automation.[9][10]
- A Spirit Jar automatically picks up any matching item in a 7x7 area centered on the jar. A crushing spirit, for example, grabs any ore it can process.[10]
- You can push items in with a hopper, with starbuncles, or with any pipe. You can also right-click an item directly onto the jar.[10]
- Spirits keep their default behaviour inside the jar. A Crusher Spirit processes items and flings the output out in one of the directions around it.[10]
- Janitor Spirits in jars are special. They pick up nearby items and push them into an inventory next to the jar, so collecting items takes almost no effort.[10]
How do you progress through Ars Nouveau?
4 parts
Ars Nouveau is all about putting Glyphs into Spellbooks so you can cast them as spells. Your progression comes down to two things: upgrading your spellbook so it can handle stronger glyphs, and building the Source-powered machines that craft everything else. The pack's Ars Nouveau quest chapter walks you through both.[3][4]
Spellbook tiers
Your first goal is a Novice Spell Book ("Spell Books" quest). This is where you create and store your spells. Press C to open the Create a Spell page, which has tabs for Spell Creation, the Color Picker and Familiars. The Novice book only lets you create and use Tier 1 Glyphs, so you'll want to upgrade it before long.[3]
The next step is the Mage's Spell Book (a quest in "Ars Nouveau"). It raises your overall mana and mana regen and unlocks Tier 2 Glyphs. You make it by upgrading your Novice book.[3][8]

The final tier is the Archmage Spell Book (a quest in "Ars Nouveau"). The quest says you first need to have killed the Wilden Chimera, which you summon through a ritual at a Ritual Brazier. The Archmage book is an upgrade of the Mage's Spell Book.[3][8]

Unlocking glyphs
Glyphs come from the Scribe's Table (a quest in "Ars Nouveau"). There are 3 tiers of glyphs, and each glyph costs some experience plus items. The table can pull items from nearby inventories, so placing a chest next to it saves you some juggling.[3]
- Right-click the Scribe's Table with your spellbook.[3]
- Search for the glyph you want and click Select at the bottom.[3]
- Right-click the table with the required items to create the glyph.[3]
- Use the glyph to learn it.[3]
Most glyphs have their own quest in the chapter, so the quest book doubles as a checklist of what you've learned. The Scribe's Table also puts spells onto Spell Parchments and inscribes spells onto items like the Enchanter's Sword, Enchanter's Mirror and Enchanter's Bow.[3]

Ars Nouveau also appears on the ATM Star path. The "Ars Nouveau" quest quest there asks for a Source Gem, and it leads to "Glyph of Wither" quest. If your Wither glyph doesn't craft, the quest points out that you might need more experience.[4]
Building your Source setup
Source is the mod's power system, and nearly every tier of progression depends on it. The quests lay out the build order like this:[3]
- Build an Imbuement Chamber (a quest in "Ars Nouveau"). It makes a small amount of Source on its own and can also draw from Source Jars. Some recipes need Arcane Pedestals placed around it.[3]
- Imbue items in the chamber to get Source Gem ("Source Gems" quest). This is one of the main crafting materials in the mod.[3]
- Craft a Source Jar (a quest in "Ars Nouveau") to store Source. You can also move Source with buckets or by breaking and picking up a jar.[3]
- Use your Source Gems to make Sourcestone ("Sourcestone" quest), the base block for the machines.[3]
- Craft 8 Arcane Pedestal ("Arcane Pedestals" quest). You need them for both the Ritual Brazier and the Enchanting Apparatus.[3]
- Build the Enchanting Apparatus multiblock ("Enchanting Apparatus" quest): place an Arcane Core in the ground, put the Apparatus on top and surround it with Arcane Pedestals. It needs Source to run.[3]

To keep Source flowing, the quests branch into sourcelinks. The Volcanic Sourcelink burns items, the Vitalic Sourcelink feeds on mob deaths and animal breeding, the Mycelial Sourcelink uses nearby food, the Agronomic Sourcelink uses growing plants, and the Alchemical Sourcelink uses adjacent potion jars.[3]
What the Apparatus opens up
Once the Enchanting Apparatus is running, a big chunk of the quest tree opens up. You can make the Magebloom Seed for magical clothing, the Dominion Wand for controlling creatures, the Enchanter's weapons, the jars, the Ring of Lesser Discount and Ring of Greater Discount, the belts, and the Amulet of Mana Boost and Amulet of Mana Regen. The rings and amulets are handy early boosts to your mana pool and regen.[3]
The Ritual Brazier also becomes available after the Arcane Pedestals. It uses pedestals to cast rituals, and the quests list each ritual separately. In this pack, the recipe for the Challenge ritual was changed.[3][8]

How does Ars Nouveau work with other mods?
4 parts
Ars Nouveau doesn't live in a bubble in All the Mods 10. Several recipes in this pack mix Ars items with items from other mods, and a few of them were added or changed by the pack itself. Here are the connections worth knowing about.[8]

Create
The Starbuncle Wheel combines Ars Nouveau's Starbuncle with Create's Water Wheel.[8]
Addons that build on Ars machines
A bunch of Ars addons in the pack use Ars Nouveau's own crafting stations. The Enchanting Apparatus makes extra threads like Flight, Vitality and Reach. It also makes gadgets like the Ender Source Jar, Warp Index, Remote and Warping Spell Prism.[8]
The Imbuement Chamber makes the combined elemental essences, such as Lava Essence, Tempest Essence and the Elemancer Shard. The Scribe's Table's glyph system also covers addon glyphs like Glyph Mark, Glyph Recall and Glyph Precise Delay.[8]
For builders, Sourcestone and Smooth Sourcestone also feed into extra decorative blocks, such as the Sourcestone Door, Sourcestone Wall and cracked brick variants from the stonecutter.[8]
Occultism
The in-game guide has an entry for Ars Ocultas, which it describes as Occultism integration for Ars Nouveau that adds compatibility between the two mods along with quality-of-life changes.[9]
Unverified The specific features Ars Ocultas adds in this pack could not be confirmed from the available sources.
Which All the Mods 10 quests use Ars Nouveau?
4 parts
Ars Nouveau has its own dedicated quest chapter in All the Mods 10, and it also shows up in several other chapters, including the main progression line. Here's what each one asks of you and roughly what order to tackle them in.[3][4][11]
The Ars Nouveau chapter: getting started
The chapter kicks off with "Spell Books" quest, where you craft a Novice Spell Book. Press C to open the spell creation page. This first book only lets you create and use Tier 1 Glyphs, so upgrading is the first big goal.[3]
- "Spell Books" quest: craft the Novice Spell Book.[3]
- a quest in "Ars Nouveau": upgrade to the Mage's Spell Book, which raises your mana and mana regen and unlocks Tier 2 Glyphs.[3]
- a quest in "Ars Nouveau": the final Archmage Spell Book. You need to have killed the Wilden Chimera first, which is summoned through a ritual at a Ritual Brazier.[3]
Alongside the books, three early quests open up: a quest in "Ars Nouveau" for the Scribe's Table (used to craft glyphs and inscribe spells), a quest in "Ars Nouveau" for the Imbuement Chamber, and a quest in "Ars Nouveau" for the Dowsing Rod.[3]
Source and the crafting setup
- "Source Gems" quest: put Lapis or Amethyst Shards into the Imbuement Chamber to get Source Gem.[3]
- a quest in "Ars Nouveau": build a Source Jar to start storing Source, the mod's power system.[3]
- "Sourcestone" quest: craft Sourcestone from your Source Gems.[3]
- "Arcane Pedestals" quest: make 8 Arcane Pedestal.[3]
- "Enchanting Apparatus" quest: get both the Enchanting Apparatus and an Arcane Core, then build the multiblock: core in the ground, apparatus on top, pedestals around it.[3]
From the Source Jar quest, a branch covers the sourcelinks (Volcanic Sourcelink, Vitalic Sourcelink, Mycelial Sourcelink, Agronomic Sourcelink) plus the Potion Jar, which leads into the Alchemical Sourcelink.[3]
After the Enchanting Apparatus
The apparatus unlocks the biggest spread of quests: the Enchanter's sword, shield, mirror and bow, the Enchanter's Wand, "The Jars" quest, "Rings of Discount" quest, "The Amulets" quest, and both belts.[3]
Two longer branches also start here. "Summoning Help!" quest asks for the Dominion Wand and leads to the Starbuncle, Wixie, Whirlisprig, Drygmy and Amethyst Golem charms. "Magebloom Seed" quest leads to Magebloom Fiber, then Spell Parchment, and finally Runic Chalk.[3]
Separately, "Arcane Pedestals" quest also unlocks the Ritual Brazier quest, which branches into one quest per ritual, from Sunrise and Warping to Flight, Summon Wilden and Binding. The chapter also has a large set of single-glyph quests, each asking you to make one glyph.[3]
Unverified The glyph quests hang off three prerequisite quests whose names aren't shown in the quest data, so it's unconfirmed whether they are grouped by glyph tier.
Other chapters that use Ars Nouveau
- Chapter 2: Allthemodium uses the Enchanting Apparatus to craft the Unobtainium-Allthemodium Alloy Ingot, so you'll need that multiblock working for main progression.[11]
- Chapter 3: The ATM Star has "Ars Nouveau" quest (a Source Gem) followed by "Glyph of Wither" quest, which asks for Glyph Wither. It's made with Wither Skeleton Skulls and an Abjuration Essence, and may need more XP.[4]
- Basic Armor has three full outfit quests: "Sorceror's Outfit" quest (the gold tier), "Arcanist Outfit" quest (iron tier) and "Battlemages Outfit" quest (diamond tier).[12]
- Applied Energistics 2 suggests a Dowsing Rod to pinpoint meteorites after the Meteorite Compass finds their general area.[13]
- Building Tips accepts Glyph Light or a Magelight Lantern for "Ars Nouveau Lights" quest.[14]
- Basic Storage's "Vanilla Storage" quest can be completed with an Archwood Chest instead of a regular chest.[15]
- Chapter 4: Creative includes a "Creative Source Jar" quest quest.[16]
Unverified The requirements for the Creative Source Jar quest in Chapter 4 weren't available, so its details are unconfirmed.
Which Ars Nouveau config options matter?
2 parts
Ars Nouveau splits its settings into two files: a client file for visuals and HUD tweaks that only affect your own game, and a common file for gameplay values like familiar production, mana costs and mob behavior. Below are the options you're most likely to touch, with the exact values All the Mods 10 8.1 ships.[5][6]
Client settings: visuals and HUD
- Dynamic lights are off in this pack: lights.lightsEnabled is false. The pack still fills in light levels for held items and entities, such as 15 for a glowstone block or a lava bucket and 15 for Ars spell projectiles. Those values only apply if you turn dynamic lights on through lights.item_lights and lights.entity_lights.[6]
- The touch light is set to last 8 ticks with a brightness of 8, through lights.touchLightDuration (range 0 to 40) and lights.touchLightLuminance (range 0 to 15).[6]
- If the Mana Bar overlaps another mod's HUD, you can move it with overlays.xManaBar and overlays.yManaBar. Both are 0 in this pack. The tooltip offsets are overlays.xTooltip at 20 and overlays.yTooltip at 0.[6]
- misc.glyphTooltips is true, so spell tooltips show glyph icons instead of plain text.[6]
- overlays.showRecipeBook is true, so the Storage Lectern shows its recipe book icon.[6]
Common settings: gameplay
- general.spawnBook is false, so you won't get a book when you log in. You'll need to craft the Worn Notebook yourself to start.[1][5]
- Drygmy production: each generation costs 1,000 source (drygmy_production.drygmyManaCost), and 20 channels must happen before loot drops (drygmy_production.drygmyMaxProgress).[5]
- Each Drygmy cycle gives a base of 1 item. Nearby entities add a bonus of up to 5 items, one per entity, and each unique mob adds 2 more.[5]
- Whirlisprigs consume 250 mana per generation (general.sylphManaCost). They also need 250 progress before creating resources (general.whirlisprigProgress).[5]
- The Ring of Jumping uses 30 mana per jump (item.jumpRingCost).[5]
- Each Bookwyrm lets a lectern support 8 inventories (general.bookwyrmLimit). Keep that in mind when you plan a large storage network.[5]
- Each melder cycle takes 300 source and 200 potion from each input jar, then outputs 100 potion. Here 100 equals 1 potion.[5]
- The Enchanted Flask can grant potion levels up to 255 (block.enchantedFlaskCap).[5]
- Caster Tomes can show up in dungeon loot, because item.spawnTomes is true.[5]
- general.dimensionBlacklist is empty, so no dimensions are excluded from hostile mob spawning. general.archwoodForest sets the Archwood forest spawn weight to 2.[5]
- The Wilden Defender, Hunter and Stalker are all set not to attack animals, so your farms are safe from them.[5]
Unverified The sources only show the values this pack uses, not the mod's own defaults. We can't confirm which of these settings All the Mods 10 changed from stock Ars Nouveau.

Unverified The pack changelogs only list version numbers. They don't say what changed in each Ars Nouveau release or why the pack rolled back those two versions. The mod's own changelogs for these jars aren't available here, so specific new features, fixes or balance changes can't be confirmed.
