What is Forbidden and Arcanus ?

1 part

Forbidden & Arcanus adds magic-themed content designed to fit vanilla's style, plus a big pile of new building blocks to play with. If you like magical gear and rituals that don't feel out of place next to regular Minecraft blocks, this one's for you.[1]

This pack ships version 2.5.5-beta of the mod for 1.21.1, and it has been part of the pack since 0.56 or earlier. Everything from the mod registers under the forbidden_arcanus namespace, so that's what to search for in JEI.[2]

Where it fits in the pack

The pack's quest book touches Forbidden & Arcanus in two places. In the Allthemodium chapter, a quest in "?" asks you for a Hephaestus Forge Tier 1, and it unlocks a quest in "?", which wants an Eternal Stella. That pairing puts the Hephaestus Forge on the road toward the pack's late-game Allthemodium materials.[3]

Over in the Basic Tools chapter, a quest in "?" asks for a Draco Arcanus Pickaxe, so the mod also shows up early as one of the pack's tool options.[4]

Tip: Forbidden & Arcanus is not on the ATM Star quest path, so you can treat it as optional content. It's worth doing for the gear and the building blocks, not because the Star requires it.[3][4]

The mod is updated regularly with new content and improvements, so if you've played an older version of the pack, expect some differences from what you remember.[1]

Unverified There is no in-jar guidebook shipped with this mod in the pack, so you'll want to lean on JEI and the quest book to work out the progression between the Hephaestus Forge and the Eternal Stella. This site does hold All the Mods 10's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How do you get started with Forbidden and Arcanus ?

4 parts

Forbidden & Arcanus is a magic-themed mod with a vanilla-ish look, and it comes with a big pile of new building blocks alongside the magical gear. That means your first hour with it is mostly about collecting a few odd materials and turning them into the handful of base items everything else branches off from.[1]

Start with arcane crystal dust

Dust specks are the entry point. Combine them into Arcane Crystal Dust and you unlock most of the mod's early crafts, because the dust shows up again and again in later recipes.[5]

With dust in hand, the two cheapest things worth making right away are an Aureal Bottle and Arcane Bone Meal. The bottle is the mod's own container item, and the bone meal is a magical counterpart to the vanilla stuff.[5]

Get your Darkstone working

Darkstone is the mod's workhorse stone. Your first real machine part from it is the Clibano Core, so grab Darkstone early and keep a stack aside.[5]

Darkstone also feeds the mod's own Smithing Template, which is worth crafting once you have a spare netherite upgrade template lying around. Its tooltip tells you the base slot takes armor, a weapon or a tool.[5][6]

Build toward the Hephaestus Forge

The pack's quest book points you at the mod's centrepiece next: a quest in "?" asks you to produce a Hephaestus Forge Tier 1, and the follow-up it unlocks, a quest in "?", asks for an Eternal Stella. Treat those two as your medium-term goals once the basic crafts are done.[3]

The mod's pedestal is a Darkstone craft that runs through Arcane Polished Darkstone, so line those up while you are already mining Darkstone and smelting Deorum Ingot.[5]

Tip: There is a second route to the Eternal Stella in this pack: a stellarite bee in an advanced beehive turns pollen into one, so if you already have a bee setup running you can farm the quest item instead of crafting it.[5]

    Where it leads

The long-term target on the tool side is the Draco Arcanus Pickaxe, which has its own quest, a quest in "?", in the pack's basic tools chapter. Do not expect it early: just know it is the pickaxe the pack wants you to work toward from this mod.[4]

After that, most of what is left is dragon scales, Obsidiansteel Ingot and the corrupted crystal line, plus a very large set of decorative Darkstone, Aurum and Deorum blocks for building. Open JEI on any of those items and the pack's exact recipe will show up.[1][5]

How does Forbidden and Arcanus work?

    4 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 4.5 guide

Forbidden and Arcanus adds magical content in a style that fits vanilla, plus a lot of new building blocks. This section covers the crafting chains that can be confirmed for this pack. Every recipe shown here is the mod's own recipe as it's loaded in the pack.[1][7]

    Arcane Crystal processing

Arcane Crystal and its dust show up in lots of the mod's recipes, so this is the chain you'll run most often. It covers Arcane Crystal Dust Speck, Arcane Crystal Dust, Arcane Crystal and the Arcane Crystal Block, and the pack's recipes below show each step, including packing crystals into a block and unpacking them again.[7]

    Deorum upgrades

The Deorum Ingot is what turns ordinary building materials into their arcane versions. Polished Darkstone has an arcane counterpart, Arcane Polished Darkstone, and the pack loads the usual shaped variants on top of it: the Arcane Polished Darkstone Pillar, Arcane Polished Darkstone Slab, Arcane Polished Darkstone Stairs and Arcane Polished Darkstone Wall.[7]

    The Hephaestus Forge

The mod adds a JEI category called Hephaestus Forge Upgrading. It also has an item called the Reinforced Deorum Blacksmith Gavel. Open that JEI category in-game to see how the forge's upgrades work in this pack.[8]

Tip: The mod's project page links a tutorial video that covers most things in the mod. It's worth watching if you want an overview beyond these recipes.[1]

How do you progress through Forbidden and Arcanus ?

    5 parts

Forbidden and Arcanus isn't a long quest line in this pack, but it does have a clear material ladder: darkstone and arcane crystals feed into Deorum, Deorum unlocks the arcane building set and the ritual pedestal, and the heavy endgame items lean on Obsidiansteel, dragon materials and the Eternal Stella. Here's how the pack's quests and recipes line up with that.[3][4][5]

    The quest path

    1. In the "allthemodium" chapter, a quest in "?" asks you for a tier 1 Hephaestus Forge (Hephaestus Forge Tier 1).[3]
    2. Once that's done, a quest in "?" unlocks and asks for an Eternal Stella.[3]
    3. Separately, over in the "basic_tools" chapter, a quest in "?" wants a Draco Arcanus Pickaxe, the mod's contribution to the pack's tool checklist.[4]

Unverified The quests themselves carry no text in the pack files, and higher Hephaestus Forge tiers beyond tier 1 aren't covered by the sources used here, so treat the forge upgrade path as something to confirm in-game with JEI. This site does hold All the Mods 10's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

Step one: darkstone and arcane crystal dust

Darkstone is the entry material. It cuts into the usual slab, stair and wall set, and more importantly it feeds the Clibano Core, the mod's upgraded furnace block, and the smithing template used for applying modifiers.[5]

The other half of the early game is Arcane Crystal and its dust. Crystals pack into blocks and back out again for storage, and dust specks combine into full Arcane Crystal Dust, which is the single most-used reagent in the mod's recipe list.[5]

    Crafting Shaped

9 × Arcane Crystal Dust Speck

    Recipe id: forbidden_arcanus:arcane_crystal_dust

Once you have dust, you can already make an Aureal Bottle and Arcane Bone Meal, so don't hoard it all, it comes back as fast as you can mine crystals.[5]

You'll also want a gavel early. It's a cheap tool built from a Blacksmith Gavel Head, which itself comes out of the crafting table with no special materials.[5]

    Step two: Deorum

Deorum Ingot is the gate between the early and mid game. Heads up: this pack changed the Deorum ingot recipe, so check the in-pack version below rather than anything you remember from the mod's defaults.[5]

    Deorum IngotChanged by the pack

    Recipe id: forbidden_arcanus:deorum_ingot

    Changed by the pack.

Tip: Deorum compresses into a block and breaks down into nuggets, and both convert straight back to ingots, so it's safe to store however you like.[5]

With ingots in hand, Deorum branches two ways. The decorative branch gives you Deorum glass, panes, chains, doors, trapdoors and both lantern variants. The functional branch upgrades your existing blocks: Polished Darkstone becomes Arcane Polished Darkstone, and Edelwood Planks become Arcane Edelwood Planks.[5]

That arcane darkstone is what you actually need it for: it cuts into pillars and slabs, and those are what build the Darkstone Pedestal that ritual setups are based around.[5]

Step three: Obsidiansteel and dragon materials

Obsidiansteel Ingot marks the late tier. It shows up as an ingredient in Corrupti Dust, the Dark Nether Star and the Cracked Obsidian Skull, and that last one also wants a Fragmented Obsidian Skull, so the skull line is a multi-stage repair job.[5]

Dragon materials sit at the same level. Dragon Scale upgrades into an Aquatic Dragon Scale, and a Golden Dragon Scale turns a vanilla dragon egg into an Arcane Dragon Egg, so plan on beating the Ender Dragon before this part of the tree opens up.[5]

    Getting the Eternal Stella

For the second quest, this pack gives you an automation-friendly route: a Stellarite Bee working in an advanced beehive produces Eternal Stella from pollen, no crafting bench involved.[5]

Tip: If you already have a bee setup running for other pack goals, adding a Stellarite Bee line is the low-effort way to finish a quest in "?" while you work on something else.[3][5]

How does Forbidden and Arcanus work with other mods?

      4 parts

Forbidden and Arcanus ties into other mods in this pack mainly through recipes, plus a few quests. Some of these recipes were added by the pack itself and some come from the other mods. I'll mark which is which as we go.[5]

      Pack-added recipes

The pack adds a crafting recipe for the Oblivion Shard that uses the Eternal Stella together with two EvilCraft items. It's a good example of this mod feeding into the pack's own progression items.[5]

The Smelter Prism also shows up in the pack's recipe for Philosopher's Fuel. That recipe is a big one, since it pulls in items from many other mods, and the Smelter Prism is just one of its ingredients.[5]

      Sawing the mysterywood and friends

The pack adds sawing recipes for three of this mod's wood types: Aurum Planks, Edelwood Planks and Fungyss Planks. Aurum planks come from mysterywood logs, edelwood planks from edelwood logs, and fungyss planks from fungyss stems.[5]

Mekanism's sawing recipes turn those logs or stems into planks and give you Sawdust as a second output. The Productive Trees sawmill recipes go the other way and take Sawdust as an input alongside the log or stem.[5]

              Quests

Three quests ask for items from this mod. In the allthemodium chapter, quest a quest in "?" asks for the Hephaestus Forge Tier 1. Quest a quest in "?" unlocks after it and asks for the Eternal Stella, the same item the Oblivion Shard recipe needs. In the basic_tools chapter, quest a quest in "?" asks for the Draco Arcanus Pickaxe.[3][4]

Which All the Mods 10 quests use Forbidden and Arcanus ?

              2 parts

Forbidden and Arcanus shows up in two quest chapters in the pack: "allthemodium" and "basic_tools". None of these quests have titles in the quest book, so they are listed here by their ids and what they ask you to hand in.[3][4]

              The allthemodium chapter

This chapter has two linked quests for the mod, and you do them in order. First comes a quest in "?", which asks you to submit Hephaestus Forge Tier 1.[3]

Once that is done, a quest in "?" unlocks. Its task is to submit Eternal Stella.[3]

              The basic_tools chapter

Here there is one quest, a quest in "?". It asks for the Draco Arcanus Pickaxe. The sources show no prerequisite quest for it, so it is not locked behind another quest from the same chapter.[4]

Unverified The sources do not list any rewards for these quests, nor do they say how the items are obtained. Check the in-game quest book for rewards before you plan around them.

Which Forbidden and Arcanus config options matter?

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Unverified We couldn't confirm any config options or values for Forbidden and Arcanus in All the Mods 10 8.1. The pack's config files for this mod weren't available, so we can't tell you which settings exist, what they're set to, or whether the pack changed anything from the mod's defaults.

If you're trying to change how the mod behaves or you run into a problem, the mod's project page points you to its Discord server for news, feature suggestions and support.[1]

What changed in Forbidden and Arcanus between versions?

              2 parts

All the Mods 10 0.64 ships Forbidden and Arcanus 2.5.5-beta. The mod has been in the pack since 0.56 or earlier. The pack changelogs have no entries for this mod, so everything below comes from the mod's own changelogs.[2]

              2.5.5-beta (the version in 0.64)

This is the biggest change you'll notice, because it reworks how you get Lost Souls.[9]

              • Killing an entity no longer has a plain chance to spawn a Lost Soul. The new Soul Looting enchantment replaces it, and the mod's changelog says it gives a 5% chance per level to spawn a Lost Soul on a kill.[9]
              • Lost Souls can now be damaged by normal swords.[9]
              • The Hephaestus Forge main slot now has a stack size limit of 1.[9]
              • The Dark Nether Star Block was removed.[9]
              • Fixed the Edelwood Log smelting recipe being inverted.[9]
              • Fixed Enhancer Relics sometimes missing data.[9]
              • Added the missing Netherite Blacksmith Gavel recipe.[9]

              2.5.4-beta

              • Added back some missing recipes.[10]
              • Fixed the Hephaestus Forge tier tooltip being untranslated.[10]
Tip: If you have an old world or an old build that still has Dark Nether Star Blocks, the mod removed that block in 2.5.5-beta, which is the version in 0.64.[2][9]
