What is Forbidden and Arcanus ?

1 part

Forbidden & Arcanus adds magic-themed content designed to feel like it could fit in vanilla Minecraft. It also adds a big batch of building blocks, so it's worth a look even if you mostly want new decorative options for your base.[1]

All the Mods 10 2.47 ships version 2.5.15 of the mod for Minecraft 1.21.1. It has been in the pack since All the Mods 10 2.25 or earlier.[2]

Where it fits in this pack

The pack has a full quest chapter for the mod. It starts with basic materials like Mundabitur Dust, Aureal Bottle, Darkstone, Rune, Stellarite Piece and Arcane Crystal, then branches out from there.[3]

The mod also appears in the ATM Star chapter. One quest there asks for a modular_machinery_reborn:controller together with Forbidden & Arcanus blocks, including Rune Block, a Quantum Injector, Arcane Crystal Block and Arcane Polished Darkstone Pillar. If you're heading for the Star, this mod is part of the trip.[4]

Tip: The chapter also has a quest that pairs a Soul Extractor with Advanced Block Breaker, Advanced Block Placer and Advanced Clicker. Expect to use Forbidden & Arcanus alongside Just Dire Things.[3]

How do you get started with Forbidden and Arcanus ?

6 parts

Forbidden and Arcanus adds magical content in a vanilla-friendly style, plus a lot of new building blocks. In this pack the mod's quest chapter starts you off by collecting four raw materials: Darkstone, Arcane Crystal, Rune and Stellarite Piece. Almost everything early in the chapter builds on these, so grab them first.[1][3]

Step 1: Collect the basics

Step 2: Arcane Crystal Dust and Mundabitur Dust

Next, turn some crystals into Arcane Crystal Dust (a quest in "?"). The easiest way is to put an Arcane Crystal back in a furnace. You'll need this dust for several important recipes, so it's worth making a stack.[3][5]

Smelting

Then make Mundabitur Dust (a quest in "?"). This pack changed its recipe, so check the in-pack version below rather than an older guide. Keep some spare, because it is a task in several of the chapter's bigger quests.[3][5]

Step 3: Deorum Ingots

With both dusts done, the Deorum Ingot quest (a quest in "?") opens up. The pack changed this recipe too, and it uses both Arcane Crystal Dust and Mundabitur Dust. Deorum leads into items like Arcane Polished Darkstone and the Spectral Eye Amulet.[3][5]

Step 4: Darkstone blocks and the Clibano Core

Back on the Darkstone branch, quest a quest in "?" asks for 8 Polished Darkstone, 17 Polished Darkstone Bricks, a Clibano Core and a Mundabitur Dust. That quest then leads on to Obsidiansteel Ingot.[3]

Where it goes next

After the Darkstone and Deorum quests, a quest in "?" asks for a much bigger build. You'll need 48 Polished Darkstone, 9 Gilded Chiseled Polished Darkstone, a Chiseled Arcane Polished Darkstone, 8 Darkstone Pedestal, a Smithing Table and a Mundabitur Dust. Start stockpiling Darkstone early so you're ready for it.[3]

Unverified The quests list Mundabitur Dust next to structure blocks, which suggests it is used to activate or assemble those structures, and the large build is likely the Hephaestus Forge. Neither is confirmed by the available sources.

How does Forbidden and Arcanus work?

4 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 4.5 guide

Forbidden and Arcanus adds magical content in a style that fits vanilla, plus a lot of new building blocks. This section covers the crafting chains that can be confirmed for this pack. Every recipe shown here is the mod's own recipe as it's loaded in the pack.[1][6]

Arcane Crystal processing

Arcane Crystal and its dust show up in lots of the mod's recipes, so this is the chain you'll run most often. It covers Arcane Crystal Dust Speck, Arcane Crystal Dust, Arcane Crystal and the Arcane Crystal Block, and the pack's recipes below show each step, including packing crystals into a block and unpacking them again.[6]

Deorum upgrades

The Deorum Ingot is what turns ordinary building materials into their arcane versions. Polished Darkstone has an arcane counterpart, Arcane Polished Darkstone, and the pack loads the usual shaped variants on top of it: the Arcane Polished Darkstone Pillar, Arcane Polished Darkstone Slab, Arcane Polished Darkstone Stairs and Arcane Polished Darkstone Wall.[6]

The Hephaestus Forge

The mod adds a JEI category called Hephaestus Forge Upgrading. It also has an item called the Reinforced Deorum Blacksmith Gavel. Open that JEI category in-game to see how the forge's upgrades work in this pack.[7]

Tip: The mod's project page links a tutorial video that covers most things in the mod. It's worth watching if you want an overview beyond these recipes.[1]

How do you progress through Forbidden and Arcanus ?

5 parts

Forbidden and Arcanus has its own quest chapter in this pack. The quests are untitled, so this section goes through them by what they ask you to bring in. The chapter starts with basic resources, moves through Deorum and Obsidiansteel, and finishes with big multiblock-style builds.[3]

Step 1: Gather the starter resources

The chapter opens with four collection quests: Darkstone in a quest in "?", Rune in a quest in "?", Stellarite Piece in a quest in "?" and Arcane Crystal in a quest in "?". Two more quests have no prerequisites: Mundabitur Dust in a quest in "?" and Aureal Bottle in a quest in "?".[3]

You can smelt or blast the arcane crystal ore tag into Arcane Crystal and the runic stone tag into Rune. The pack also adds other ways to get these resources. Theurgy incubation recipes make Arcane Crystal, Rune and Stellarite Piece, and a pack recipe turns Mystical Agriculture darkstone essence into Darkstone. Productive Bees centrifuge recipes can give you Arcane Crystal, Rune and Stellarite Piece too.[5]

Once you have Rune, the next quest asks for a Test Tube in a quest in "?". Once you have Arcane Crystal, you move on to Arcane Crystal Dust in a quest in "?". You can make the dust by smelting, blasting or Clibano combustion of Arcane Crystal.[3][5]

Step 2: Mundabitur Dust and Deorum

This is where the pack puts its own stamp on the mod. The pack changed the recipes for both Mundabitur Dust and the Deorum Ingot, so check the in-pack versions below rather than the mod's defaults. The Deorum quest, a quest in "?", unlocks after both the Arcane Crystal Dust and Mundabitur Dust quests.[3][5]

Deorum is used to upgrade your darkstone. Arcane Polished Darkstone is made from Deorum and Polished Darkstone. a quest in "?" asks for 2 Arcane Crystal Block, one Arcane Polished Darkstone and a Mundabitur Dust. Deorum also unlocks the Spectral Eye Amulet quest, a quest in "?".[3][5]

Step 3: The Clibano and Obsidiansteel

After Darkstone, a quest in "?" asks for 8 Polished Darkstone, 17 Polished Darkstone Bricks, a Clibano Core and a Mundabitur Dust. Clibano combustion recipes turn obsidian and raw iron into Obsidiansteel Ingot, which you need for a quest in "?". That quest also requires the Artisan Relic quest.[3][5]

With Obsidiansteel in hand, you can do the Obsidian Skull quest, a quest in "?".[3][5]

Step 4: The big darkstone build and the Forge tiers

a quest in "?" unlocks after the Darkstone and Deorum quests. It's a big materials check: 48 Polished Darkstone, 9 Gilded Chiseled Polished Darkstone, a Chiseled Arcane Polished Darkstone, 8 Darkstone Pedestal, a smithing table and a Mundabitur Dust.[3]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: forbidden_arcanus:gilded_chiseled_polished_darkstone

Unverified These materials look like the Hephaestus Forge build, but the sources don't confirm what the structure is or how it's assembled.

The Forge also shows up in other chapters. The allthemodium chapter has a quest for Hephaestus Forge Tier 1 in a quest in "?", which leads to an Eternal Stella quest, a quest in "?". At the top end, Hephaestus Forge Tier 5 is one task in a quest in "?". That quest also asks for a modular_machinery_reborn:controller, 8 Arcane Crystal Obelisk, 8 Rune Block and a long list of darkstone blocks and machine casings.[3][8]

Unverified The sources don't cover what separates Forge tiers 2 to 4 or how you upgrade between tiers.

Step 5: Souls, Edelwood and late-game items

A separate branch starts at Corrupt Soul in a quest in "?" and leads to Edelwood Log in a quest in "?". From there you unlock the Soul Extractor in a quest in "?" and the Edelwood Bucket in a quest in "?". The Soul Extractor then leads to the Soul quest, a quest in "?".[3]

a quest in "?" combines both branches. It needs the Obsidiansteel and Edelwood quests, and asks for Dark Matter and Corrupti Dust. The pack adds a handy smelting recipe that turns an Edelwood Log into Dark Matter. After that you can go for the Xpetrified Orb in a quest in "?".[3][5]

The chapter also has quests for the prisms: Smelter Prism, Terrastomp Prism, Sea Prism and Whirlwind Prism. Other late quests cover the Quantum Catcher, Quantum Injector, Boss Catcher and Soul Binding Crystal. Most of these depend on quests outside this chapter. The prism quests also need the Elementarium quest, a quest in "?".[3]

Tip: Forbidden and Arcanus items also appear in other chapters of the pack. Quests there ask for Arcane Crystal, Mundabitur Dust, Corrupti Dust, Eternal Stella, the prisms and the Soul Binding Crystal, plus large Modular Machinery Reborn builds that use Rune Blocks, Arcane Crystal Blocks and piles of Polished Darkstone. Stock up on darkstone blocks early![4][9]

How does Forbidden and Arcanus work with other mods?

4 parts

Forbidden & Arcanus is not an island in this pack. Its items appear in some of the pack's own crafting chains, its woods work with other mods' sawmills and furniture, and several quests mix its blocks with gear from other mods. Here's where those connections are.[3][5]

Endgame crafting with All the Tweaks

The pack adds its own crafting recipes for Oblivion Shard and Philosopher's Fuel, and each one pulls together parts from many mods in the pack. The recipe blocks below show the exact in-pack ingredients, so check them before you start farming.[5]

Tip: The Forbidden & Arcanus quest chapter has quests for the Eternal Stella (a quest in "?") and the Smelter Prism (a quest in "?"), so follow those if you're stuck working toward either one.[3]

Sawing mystical wood

The pack adds sawing recipes for the Forbidden & Arcanus woods, so you can process logs and stems in bulk instead of crafting planks by hand. Mekanism's sawing and Productive Trees' sawmill both handle Aurum Planks, Edelwood Planks and Fungyss Planks, and the Mekanism route is a steady source of Sawdust on the side.[5]

You get display cases, seats, and small, flat, raised, tall and fancy seat backs, in colors such as black, blue and brown. Quests that mix mods

Quest a quest in "?" in the Forbidden & Arcanus chapter asks for the tier 2 block breaker, block placer and clicker from Just Dire Things, together with a Soul Extractor.[3]

Two larger quests pair a Modular Machinery Reborn controller with a big pile of Forbidden & Arcanus blocks. a quest in "?" asks for 4 Rune Block, a Quantum Injector, 5 Arcane Crystal Block, 19 Polished Darkstone Stairs and 16 Polished Darkstone, among other items. a quest in "?" goes further. It asks for Hephaestus Forge Tier 5, 8 Arcane Crystal Obelisk, 68 Polished Darkstone and 8 Rune Blocks, plus Modular Machinery Reborn casings, including 44 plain casings.[3]

The same two quests also appear in the ATM Star chapter as a quest in "?" and a quest in "?", with identical tasks. Your darkstone and arcane crystal building materials matter well beyond the Forbidden & Arcanus chapter, so stock up.[3][4]

Which All the Mods 10 quests use Forbidden and Arcanus ?

4 parts

Forbidden and Arcanus has its own quest chapter in this pack, and its items also show up as tasks in three other chapters. The dedicated chapter is where you learn the mod step by step. The others mostly ask for finished items or big stacks of building blocks.[3][4][8][9]

The Forbidden and Arcanus chapter

Two quests have no prerequisites, so you can grab them right away: a quest in "?" asks for Mundabitur Dust, and a quest in "?" asks for an Aureal Bottle. Four more open up after a prerequisite quest outside this chapter's listing: a quest in "?" for Darkstone, a quest in "?" for a Rune, a quest in "?" for a Stellarite Piece, and a quest in "?" for an Arcane Crystal.[3]

From there, the chapter splits into several branches. Here is the order the main ones follow:[3]

  1. After the Rune, a quest in "?" asks for a Test Tube.[3]
  2. After Darkstone, a quest in "?" asks for 8 Polished Darkstone, 17 Polished Darkstone Bricks, a Clibano Core and Mundabitur Dust.[3]
  3. After the Arcane Crystal, a quest in "?" wants Arcane Crystal Dust. Together with the Mundabitur Dust quest, it unlocks a quest in "?" for a Deorum Ingot.[3]
  4. The Aureal Bottle and Arcane Crystal quests together unlock a quest in "?". It asks for 2 Arcane Crystal Block, an Arcane Polished Darkstone and Mundabitur Dust.[3]
  5. Darkstone plus the Deorum Ingot unlock a quest in "?". This one is a big material check: 48 Polished Darkstone, 9 Gilded Chiseled Polished Darkstone, a Chiseled Arcane Polished Darkstone, 8 Darkstone Pedestal, a Smithing Table and Mundabitur Dust.[3]
  6. The Deorum Ingot also leads to a quest in "?" for the Spectral Eye Amulet.[3]

Relics, souls and Edelwood

Prisms and late-game tools

Tip: Mundabitur Dust shows up as a task in several quests in this chapter, so it pays to make a stack early instead of crafting it one at a time.[3]

Other chapters

In the Allthemodium chapter, a quest in "?" asks for Hephaestus Forge Tier 1. It is followed by a quest in "?", which asks for Eternal Stella.[8]

The Star chapter starts with a quest in "?" for an Arcane Crystal. That unlocks a quest in "?" for a Smelter Prism and a quest in "?" for Eternal Stella. The same chapter also has a quest in "?", a huge controller quest that asks for a Magnetized Darkstone Pedestal, a Quantum Injector, 16 Rune Blocks and several stacks of 64 Polished Darkstone.[9]

A second Star chapter goes from a quest in "?" (Arcane Crystal) to a quest in "?" (Mundabitur Dust). It also repeats the two big controller quests as a quest in "?" and a quest in "?". The first leads to a quest in "?" for Corrupti Dust. The second helps unlock a quest in "?", a quest in "?", a quest in "?", a quest in "?" and a quest in "?", which ask for the four prisms and a Soul Binding Crystal. A third controller quest there, a quest in "?", combines a Quantum Injector with an Enchanting Table, lots of Polished Darkstone variants and blocks from other mods.[4]

Which Forbidden and Arcanus config options matter?

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Unverified We couldn't confirm any config options or values for Forbidden and Arcanus in All the Mods 10 8.1. The pack's config files for this mod weren't available, so we can't tell you which settings exist, what they're set to, or whether the pack changed anything from the mod's defaults.

If you're trying to change how the mod behaves or you run into a problem, the mod's project page points you to its Discord server for news, feature suggestions and support.[1]

What changed in Forbidden and Arcanus between versions?

1 part

In All the Mods 10 2.47 you're running Forbidden and Arcanus 2.5.15, shipped as the file forbidden_arcanus-1.21.1-2.5.15.jar. The mod has been in the pack since All the Mods 10 2.2 or earlier, so it's been part of the lineup for a long time.[2]

Recent updates in the pack

The pack changelogs show several version changes between pack versions 2.36 and 2.42. Here they are, oldest first:[10][11][12][13][14]

  • All the Mods 10 2.36 updated Forbidden and Arcanus from 2.5.11 to 2.5.12.[14]
  • All the Mods 10 2.37 updated it from 2.5.12 to 2.5.13.[13]
  • All the Mods 10 2.38 moved it from 2.5.13 back to 2.5.12, so the pack rolled back to the earlier version.[12]
  • All the Mods 10 2.39 updated it from 2.5.12 to 2.5.14, skipping 2.5.13 this time.[11][12]
  • All the Mods 10 2.42 updated it from 2.5.14 to 2.5.15, the version still in the pack as of 2.47.[2][10]
Tip: If you played on pack version 2.37, you were on Forbidden and Arcanus 2.5.13. That version was only in the pack for that one release before the pack went back to 2.5.12 in 2.38.[12][13]

Unverified The pack changelogs only list version numbers. They don't say what changed inside the mod in each version or why the pack rolled back from 2.5.13 to 2.5.12. No changelogs for the shipped jars were available, so specific fixes, features, balance changes or effects on existing worlds can't be confirmed here.
