What is Forbidden and Arcanus ?

Forbidden & Arcanus adds magic-themed content made to feel like it could fit right into vanilla Minecraft. It also brings a big batch of new building blocks, so it's worth a look whether you want to dabble in magic or you just want fresh blocks for your next build.[1]
This pack runs version 2.5.11 of the mod.[2]
Where it fits in the pack
Several quests in the quest book ask for Forbidden & Arcanus items. One chain starts with a quest in "?", which asks for an Arcane Crystal. After that, it branches into a quest in "?" for a Smelter Prism and a quest in "?" for an Eternal Stella.[3]
The same chapter has a much bigger quest, a quest in "?". It asks for a whole set of darkstone and arcane blocks plus a Modular Machinery Reborn controller. That set includes 8 Arcane Polished Darkstone, 4 Chiseled Arcane Polished Darkstone, 8 Darkstone Pedestal, 8 Arcane Crystal Obelisk, 4 Arcane Crystal Block and 16 Rune Block, along with a Quantum Injector and a Magnetized Darkstone Pedestal.[3]
The Allthemodium quest chapter uses the mod too. a quest in "?" asks for a Hephaestus Forge Tier 1, and a quest in "?" follows it with an Eternal Stella.[4]
Unverified The sources don't say what those darkstone and arcane blocks are used to build, or how the Hephaestus Forge feeds into later progression.
How do you get started with Forbidden and Arcanus ?

Forbidden and Arcanus is a magic mod with a vanilla-friendly style, plus a big set of new building blocks. In this pack its progression runs through the quest book, so the quests are the best guide to what to make first.[1][3]
Step 1: Get your first Arcane Crystal
Your first goal is Arcane Crystal. It's the target of quest a quest in "?" in the star chapter, and it's the gateway: the quests for the Smelter Prism (a quest in "?") and for Eternal Stella (a quest in "?") only unlock after it.[3]
The simplest way to get it is to smelt or blast any arcane crystal ore. A plain furnace or blast furnace does the job.[5]

Step 2: Work through the Darkstone blocks
Quest a quest in "?" is a big shopping list of the mod's Darkstone blocks. It asks for 8 Arcane Polished Darkstone, 4 Chiseled Arcane Polished Darkstone, 8 Darkstone Pedestal, 8 Arcane Crystal Obelisk, 4 Arcane Crystal Block, 16 Rune Block, a Quantum Injector and a Magnetized Darkstone Pedestal, along with a few simpler polished darkstone pieces.[3]
Everything in this line starts with Darkstone. Work through the recipes in this order and each one feeds the next.[5]
- Craft Polished Darkstone, then its Polished Darkstone Slab and Polished Darkstone Stairs.[5]
- Turn the slabs into Chiseled Polished Darkstone, then upgrade that to Gilded Chiseled Polished Darkstone.[5]
- Make Arcane Polished Darkstone, then its pillar and slab variants.[5]

Step 3: The forge and Eternal Stella
The mod also shows up in the allthemodium chapter. There, quest a quest in "?" asks for Hephaestus Forge Tier 1, and completing it unlocks quest a quest in "?" for Eternal Stella.[4]

Deorum upgrades
The Deorum Ingot is what turns ordinary building materials into their arcane versions. Polished Darkstone has an arcane counterpart, Arcane Polished Darkstone, and the pack loads the usual shaped variants on top of it: the Arcane Polished Darkstone Pillar, Arcane Polished Darkstone Slab, Arcane Polished Darkstone Stairs and Arcane Polished Darkstone Wall.[6]

You craft the Smithing Template from Darkstone and a vanilla netherite upgrade smithing template. That means you'll need a netherite template before you can make one.[6]

How do you progress through Forbidden and Arcanus ?

In this pack, the quests break Forbidden and Arcanus into a few clear goals rather than one long chain. One quest chapter starts you on Arcane Crystal and branches from there. A second quest line in the Allthemodium chapter has you craft the first Hephaestus Forge tier. Here's how each step lines up with the in-pack recipes.[3][4]
Step 1: Arcane Crystal
Your entry point is a quest in "?", which asks for an Arcane Crystal. Two more quests unlock once you finish it, so this is the first thing to go after.[3]
You have several ways to get Arcane Crystal. You can process arcane crystal ores in a regular furnace, a blast furnace or the mod's own Clibano combustion. The pack also adds two extra routes: an Ender IO alloy smelting recipe for the ores and a Theurgy incubation recipe. If you run Productive Bees, an arcane crystal honeycomb recipe for the centrifuge also gives Arcane Crystal.[5]

Endgame crafting ingredients
The pack adds a recipe for the Oblivion Shard that needs an Eternal Stella. It sits next to items from several other mods, including the Hydra Trophy, Snow Queen Trophy and Ur-Ghast Trophy, and the Piercing Vengeance Focus. If you're heading for the endgame, your Eternal Stella is a must-have.[5]

Sawing the magic woods
The pack adds Mekanism sawing recipes for all three of this mod's woods. Mysterywood logs give Aurum Planks, Edelwood logs give Edelwood Planks and Fungyss stems give Fungyss Planks, each with a side output of Sawdust.[5]
The pack also adds matching Productive Trees sawmill recipes that turn the same logs and stems into Aurum, Edelwood and Fungyss Planks. If you already run a sawmill setup, your Forbidden and Arcanus wood can go straight in.[5]

All the Mods 10 2.8 ships Forbidden and Arcanus 2.5.11. The mod has been in the pack since version 0.56 or earlier. Below are the notable changes from the mod's own changelogs for 2.5.4-beta through 2.5.10.[2][8][9]
Unverified The 2.5.11 changelog and any pack changelog entries for this mod were not available, so changes in that release and pack-specific tweaks are unverified.
2.5.4-beta to 2.5.6-beta
- 2.5.4-beta added back some missing recipes and fixed the untranslated Hephaestus Forge tier tooltip.[8]
- 2.5.5-beta removed the chance for a Lost Soul to spawn when you kill an entity. In its place came the new Soul Looting enchantment, which gives a 5% chance per level to spawn a Lost Soul on a kill.[10]
- 2.5.5-beta also let normal swords damage Lost Souls, fixed the inverted Edelwood Log smelting recipe, added the missing Netherite Blacksmith Gavel recipe, and limited the Hephaestus Forge main slot to a stack size of 1.[10]
- 2.5.6-beta fixed loot modifiers not working, changed Clibano recipes to accept an item stack as the result, and added the test_tube_blacklisted.json entity tag.[11]
2.5.8-beta
The three Lost Soul variants were split into separate entities: forbidden_arcanus:lost_soul, forbidden_arcanus:corrupt_lost_soul and forbidden_arcanus:enchanted_lost_soul. Lost Souls now always drop a Soul item, however they were killed.[12]
- The Soulbound item modifier is now limited to armor and tool items.[12]
- Fixed a crash when using a Corrupt Arcane Crystal Obelisk in a Hephaestus Forge setup.[12]
- Fixed the Edelwood Oil to Black Dye recipe overwriting the vanilla Ink Sac to Black Dye recipe.[12]
- Higher forge tiers now have the pickaxe mineable tag, and the Reinforced Deorum Blacksmith Gavel is hidden from the creative tab.[12]
- For datapack authors: the forbidden_arcanus:upgrade_tier ritual result type now requires a result_tier field.[12]
2.5.9 and 2.5.10
2.5.9 was a cleanup release. The Aureal Meter overlay now shows when you hold an Aureal Bottle or a Quantum Catcher, and the Spectral Eye Amulet was fixed. Tags were changed to use the "c" namespace, and many missing block and item tags were added.[13]
2.5.10 removed unused config options and fixed the Polished Darkstone Wall missing its pickaxe mineable tag. It also raised the chance to find an Artisan Relic in village loot chests from 18% to 28%. Changes to the Hephaestus Forge data cache might fix the Hephaestus Forge server issues.[9]
