What is Mekanism?
1 part
Mekanism is the big high-tech machinery mod: machines, energy generation, handy gadgets and transmitters that move items, fluids, gases, energy and even heat. Its headline feature is ore processing. Instead of smelting an ore straight into one ingot, you can run it through purification, dissolution, chemical injection and crystallization to double, triple, quadruple or even quintuple your ingots per ore, as long as you have the infrastructure and energy to power it.[1]
It's built to grow with you. There's a tier of machinery for every stage of your playthrough, and every machine can be upgraded into a factory that processes 3 (basic), 5 (advanced), 7 (elite) or 9 (ultimate) items at once. That means one compact block instead of a whole wall of furnaces. Later on you can also get Jetpacks, a Digital Miner with filtering, the Robit companion, and Logistical Transporters for sorting item networks.[1]
All the Mods 10 4.2 ships all three modules covered in this guide, Mekanism, Mekanism Generators and Mekanism Tools, each on version 10.7.14. They've been in the pack since version 2.25 or earlier.[2]
- Mekanism Generators is the official power addon. Without it you'd need another mod to run your machines. It adds the Heat, Gas-Burning, Bio, Solar, Advanced Solar and Wind generators, plus the Fission Reactor, Fusion Reactor and Turbine.[3]
- Mekanism Tools adds armor, shields and tools, including Paxels (an axe, pickaxe and shovel in one), for Bronze, Lapis Lazuli, Osmium, Refined Glowstone, Refined Obsidian and Steel. It also adds Paxels for the vanilla wood, stone, iron, gold and diamond tiers.[4]
Where it fits in the pack
The pack has its own Mekanism quest chapter to guide you. The early quests lead through the Metallurgic Infuser, Basic Control Circuit and Infused Alloy, then the Energy Tablet. That opens up the generator quests for the Heat Generator, Solar Generator, Bio-Generator and Gas-Burning Generator.[5]
Most machine quests, such as the Enrichment Chamber, Energized Smelter and Chemical Infuser, come after the Steel Casing quest. The chapter also covers tier installers, upgrades, transmitters, a 33-block Thermal Evaporation setup, the Teleporter and the Quantum Entangloporter.[5]
How do you get started with Mekanism?
4 parts
The Mekanism quest chapter in this pack gives you a clear path to follow. It starts with the Metallurgic Infuser, branches into circuits and power, and then opens up almost every machine once you have Steel Casing. Here's the order to tackle things and why each step matters.[5]
Step 1: Metallurgic Infuser and your first circuits
Your first real machine is the Metallurgic Infuser, which is the quest a quest in "?". It comes first because the Basic Control Circuit is made inside it with a metallurgic infusing recipe, not at a crafting table. Completing the infuser quest unlocks both the Basic Control Circuit quest a quest in "?" and the Infused Alloy quest a quest in "?".[5][6]
Metallurgic Infusing (mekanism)
- any osmium ingot
- 20× any redstone
Recipe id: mekanism:control_circuit/basic
Made in the Metallurgic Infuser
Make a stack of circuits early. You'll need basic circuits in lots of recipes, including the Crusher, the Basic Bin and the Chemical Infuser.[6]
Step 2: Get power going
Mekanism machines need energy. Mekanism Generators is the official addon that adds ways to produce it. Without it, you'd have to rely on another mod for power.[3]
In the quest book, the Infused Alloy quest leads to the Energy Tablet quest a quest in "?". That quest unlocks the generator quests: the Heat Generator (a quest in "?"), the Solar Generator (a quest in "?"), the Wind Generator (a quest in "?") and the Bio-Generator (a quest in "?"). It also unlocks energy cubes (a quest in "?") and universal cables (a quest in "?") for storing and moving your power.[5]

Step 3: Steel Casing and the Configurator
Steel Casing (a quest in "?") is the big unlock. Many machine recipes are built around it, such as the Crusher and the Chemical Infuser. Its quest opens most of the machine quests, including the Enrichment Chamber, Crusher, Energized Smelter, Precision Sawmill and Electrolytic Separator, plus the machine upgrades.[5][6]
Grab a Configurator (a quest in "?") at the same stage. It lets you change the settings of blocks. Its quest leads into the transport quests for pressurized tubes, mechanical pipes, logistical transporters and thermodynamic conductors.[5][7]

Step 4: Your first processing machines
Build the Crusher (a quest in "?") early. It turns a huge range of plant material into Bio Fuel, including leaves, saplings, seeds, crops, kelp and more. Its quest leads straight to the Bio Fuel quest a quest in "?".[5][6]

Then work toward ore processing. The quest a quest in "?" asks for a Crusher, an Enrichment Chamber and an Energized Smelter, or their factory versions. That's worth doing, because Mekanism's ore processing can double, triple, quadruple or even quintuple your ingots per ore, as long as you have enough infrastructure and energy.[1][5]
Unverified The recipes for the Metallurgic Infuser, Steel Casing, Infused Alloy and Energy Tablet weren't available when this section was written, and neither were the quests that come right before the infuser and Steel Casing. Check them in-game before you start.
How does Mekanism work?
7 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 5.0 guide
Mekanism is built around tiered machinery. You start with low-tier machines and work up through mid and high tiers. Along the way you'll use high-end generators, advanced transmission systems and multi-step processing chains. The core idea is simple: feed machines power, move resources between them with transmitters, and upgrade everything as your base grows.[1]
One important thing up front: Mekanism by itself doesn't generate power. The generators come from the Mekanism Generators addon. Without it you would need another mod to power your Mekanism machines.[3]
Making and storing power
Mekanism Generators gives you a whole ladder of power options: the Heat Generator, Gas-Burning Generator, Bio-Generator, Solar Generator, Advanced Solar Generator and Wind Generator. The big multiblocks are the Fission Reactor, the Fusion Reactor and the Turbine.[3]
- The Heat Generator is the classic starting point for making power.[8]
- The Solar Generator gives you renewable energy, but only during the day.[8]
- The Wind Generator only works well if there's actually wind where you place it.[8]
- The Gas-Burning Generator burns Ethene for power.[8]
All the Mods 10 adds its own recipe for the Gas-Burning Generator, so check the recipe below rather than any older tutorial. It builds on the Bio-Generator.[9]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: allthemods:mekanismgenerators/gas_burning_gen
Pack-added recipe in All the Mods 10
To buffer your extra power, build an Energy Cube. It stores the excess your generators produce so your machines can draw from it when they need it.[10]
Transmitters: moving energy, fluids, chemicals, items and heat
Mekanism moves every resource type through its own dedicated transmitter. Here is what each one carries.[10][11]
- Universal Cables carry energy.[10]
- Mechanical Pipes carry fluids.[10]
- Pressurized Tubes carry chemicals.[10]
- Thermodynamic Conductors carry heat.[10]
- Logistical Transporters carry items. The diversion variant gives you precise control over which sides items go to.[10][11]
Machines, tiers and factories
Mekanism machines can be upgraded into factories that work on several items at once in a single block. A basic factory processes 3 items, advanced processes 5, elite processes 7 and ultimate processes 9. That replaces whole walls of furnaces with one compact machine. You can craft a factory directly or upgrade an existing machine with a Tier Installer.[1][10]
Control circuits are the backbone of Mekanism's tier system. You'll see them in recipes across the whole mod, and each new circuit tier adds more pathways. Here are the higher tiers as they're crafted in this pack.[9][10]

Each machine has its own settings. The Configurator is your tool for changing them. Once you've set one machine up the way you like, use a Configuration Card to copy that configuration onto another machine. This saves a lot of time when you build rows of identical machines.[10]

Ore processing
Smelting ore straight into ingots wastes most of what you mined. Mekanism's ore processing uses purification, dissolution, chemical injection and crystallization to get more out of each ore. With enough infrastructure and energy you can double, triple, quadruple or even quintuple your ingots per ore.[1]
The first step up is the Enrichment Chamber, which increases your material efficiency. The top of the chain involves the Chemical Crystallizer together with the Dissolution Chamber and the Washer.[10]

Storage
- Fluid Tanks store your fluids.[10]
- Chemical Tanks, starting with the Basic Chemical Tank, hold almost all of your chemicals.[10]
- QIO Drives store your items, and higher drive tiers increase the storage bandwidth. You browse the stored items from a QIO Dashboard. In this pack it shows 8 slots wide and 4 slots tall by default, set by qio.slotsWide and qio.slotsTall.[10][11]

Multiblocks and the Fission Reactor
When a Mekanism multiblock forms correctly, you'll see red sparkles around it. That's controlled by rendering.particle.multiblockFormation, which is on in this pack. If you turn it off, you get a message on the action bar instead.[11]
Multiblock contents are rendered out to 256 blocks in this pack, far more than the 64 vanilla uses for most blocks. Lowering rendering.berRange can improve performance, but multiblock contents and wind generators will pop in more.[11]
The Fission Reactor scales with how you build it. Here is how its size and layout affect it.[8]
- Each fuel assembly you add increases both the reactor's fuel and waste capacity and its maximum burn rate.[8]
- Every casing block adds heat capacity, so a bigger reactor takes more energy to raise its temperature.[8]
- Cooled and heated coolant capacity both scale with the reactor's volume.[8]
- Burning fission fuel produces heat for every whole mB burned.[8]
Unverified The sources don't show whether meltdowns are enabled in All the Mods 10 5.0, or which fission values the pack uses. Treat reactor safety as if meltdowns are possible.
Nuclear experiments can irradiate the area around you. A Geiger Counter shows how bad the environmental radiation is.[10]
Automated mining
The Digital Miner is Mekanism's automated mining machine. All the Mods 10 replaces its crafting with a pack-specific recipe, so use the one shown here.[9][10]

How do you progress through Mekanism?
5 parts
Mekanism progression in this pack is split across two quest chapters. The main Mekanism chapter takes you from your first Metallurgic Infuser through all four machine tiers and ore processing. A separate reactors chapter covers the big multiblocks, from fission all the way to antimatter. The Mekanism Tools swords and pickaxes appear as quests in the basic tools chapter.[5][12][13]
Getting started
- Build a Metallurgic Infuser for a quest in "?". This quest unlocks the Basic Control Circuit and Infused Alloy quests, along with the teleporter quest.[5]
- Make a Steel Casing for a quest in "?". This is the big hub quest. It branches into the Enrichment Chamber, Crusher, Energized Smelter, Electrolytic Separator, Pressurized Reaction Chamber, Precision Sawmill and more.[5]
- The machine upgrade quests, such as Speed Upgrade and Energy Upgrade, need both the Steel Casing quest and the Structural Glass quest a quest in "?".[5]
- After the Infused Alloy quest, craft an Energy Tablet for a quest in "?". This opens the power branch: generators, Basic Energy Cube, Basic Universal Cable and the Chargepad.[5]
The four tiers
Mekanism gear comes in Basic, Advanced, Elite and Ultimate tiers. The quest book walks you up them in a straight chain, and each step pairs an alloy with a control circuit:[5]
- Basic: a quest in "?" asks for redstone and a Basic Control Circuit.[5]
- Advanced: a quest in "?" asks for Infused Alloy and an Advanced Control Circuit.[5]
- Elite: a quest in "?" asks for Reinforced Alloy and an Elite Control Circuit.[5]
- Ultimate: a quest in "?" asks for Atomic Alloy and an Ultimate Control Circuit.[5]
Once the Basic step is done, a quest in "?" accepts any of the four tier installers, from Basic Tier Installer up to Ultimate Tier Installer. Lots of other quests accept any tier too, including energy cubes, universal cables, mechanical pipes, pressurized tubes, bins, fluid tanks and chemical tanks. So if you already have a higher-tier version, it still counts.[5]
You can only make the Basic control circuit in the Metallurgic Infuser. The Advanced, Elite and Ultimate circuits each have two recipes, one crafted and one infused, so pick whichever suits your setup.[6]

Mid-game machines
The circuit quests also gate specific machines. The Advanced Control Circuit quest a quest in "?" leads to the Osmium Compressor. You need that, plus the Refined Obsidian Dust quest, before the Refined Obsidian Ingot quest a quest in "?" opens.[5]
The Elite Control Circuit quest a quest in "?" unlocks the Combiner. Together with the Purification Chamber quest, it also unlocks the Chemical Injection Chamber. The Ultimate Control Circuit quest a quest in "?" leads to the Chemical Crystallizer, Chemical Washer and Chemical Dissolution Chamber.[5]
Along the way, a series of ore-processing quests has you build bigger and bigger setups. These start with a crusher, enricher and smelter in a quest in "?", add purification in a quest in "?", and finish with the full line in a quest in "?". Each of these quests accepts either the single machine or any tier of the matching factory.[5]
Endgame: the reactors chapter
The reactors chapter opens with the Chemical Crystallizer in a quest in "?". From there it branches in two directions. The first is Lithium Dust, which leads to the induction matrix quests. The second is the full hazmat suit, which leads to Fission Reactor Casing and Reactor Glass in a quest in "?".[12]
Further down the chapter you build the turbine, starting with a quest in "?". The SPS quest a quest in "?" comes after the polonium and plutonium pellet quests. The fusion reactor quest a quest in "?" follows the Polonium Pellet quest, and the chapter also includes an Antimatter Pellet quest.[12]

How does Mekanism work with other mods?
5 parts
Mekanism isn't an island in this pack. The pack adds and changes recipes so Mekanism processing handles modded ores, its machines saw modded logs, and its high-end parts show up in some of the biggest endgame crafts.[6]
Processing Allthemodium, Vibranium and Unobtainium
The three Allthemodium metals plug straight into Mekanism's ore processing. Purifying recipes give you clumps like Allthemodium Clump, Vibranium Clump and Unobtainium Clump. Injecting recipes give you shards like Allthemodium Shard, Vibranium Shard and Unobtainium Shard. Dissolution recipes turn ores and raw materials into dirty slurries for each metal.[6]

Quests
The Mekanism questline is almost entirely Mekanism items. One exception is a quest in "?", which asks for Sulfur from All the Ores alongside Mekanism machines like the Chemical Oxidizer, Electrolytic Separator and Chemical Infuser.[5]
Which All the Mods 10 quests use Mekanism?
4 parts
Mekanism turns up in quite a few places in this pack. It has its own Mekanism chapter and a separate Mekanism Reactors chapter for the nuclear endgame. It also has smaller entries in the Basic Power, Basic Tools, Basic Armor and Basic Logistics chapters.[5][12][13][14][15][16]
The Mekanism chapter
Most of the chapter branches off a quest in "?", which asks for a Metallurgic Infuser. That quest opens a quest in "?" for a Basic Control Circuit, a quest in "?" for Infused Alloy and a quest in "?" for the Teleporter. Two more hubs, a quest in "?" (Steel Casing) and a quest in "?" (Configurator), unlock from a quest outside this chapter.[5]
- Power: a quest in "?" asks for an Energy Tablet. It opens the generator quests for heat (a quest in "?"), gas-burning (a quest in "?"), bio (a quest in "?"), wind (a quest in "?") and solar (a quest in "?", then a quest in "?"). It also opens energy cubes (a quest in "?"), cables (a quest in "?") and the Chargepad (a quest in "?").[5]
- Gear: the chargepad quest unlocks the Jetpack (a quest in "?"), Free Runners (a quest in "?"), scuba gear (a quest in "?"), Electric Bow (a quest in "?"), Flamethrower (a quest in "?") and Portable Teleporter (a quest in "?").[5]
- Machines: the steel casing quest unlocks the core machines. These include the Enrichment Chamber (a quest in "?"), Crusher (a quest in "?"), Energized Smelter (a quest in "?") and Advanced Control Circuit (a quest in "?").[5]
- Upgrades: the upgrade quests need both the steel casing quest and a quest in "?" (Structural Glass). Examples are speed (a quest in "?"), energy (a quest in "?") and filter (a quest in "?").[5]
- Alloys and circuits: a quest in "?" leads to a quest in "?", then a quest in "?", and ends at a quest in "?", which asks for Atomic Alloy and an Ultimate Control Circuit.[5]
- Refined obsidian: a quest in "?" (Osmium Compressor) and a quest in "?" (Refined Obsidian Dust) together unlock a quest in "?" for the ingot.[5]
- Logistics: the configurator quest opens the quests for pipes, tubes, transporters and conductors. The tank quests after them lead to the Dynamic Tank (a quest in "?").[5]
Ore processing lines
- a quest in "?" asks for a pump, a separator and a purification chamber. It leads to a quest in "?", which adds the crusher, enrichment and smelting machines.[5]
- a quest in "?" asks for a thermal evaporation plant: 33 Thermal Evaporation Block, a controller and 2 valves, plus a pump and a separator. It continues through a quest in "?" to a quest in "?".[5]
- a quest in "?" starts from sulfur and chemical machines. It continues through a quest in "?" and a quest in "?" and ends at a quest in "?", the full processing line.[5]
The Mekanism Reactors chapter
This chapter opens with a Chemical Crystallizer (a quest in "?") and then splits into two paths. Hazmat gear (a quest in "?") leads into fission reactor parts (a quest in "?"). Lithium dust (a quest in "?") leads to the induction matrix (a quest in "?"). A fuel chain runs from a quest in "?" to the Isotopic Centrifuge and waste barrel, then into turbine parts (a quest in "?").[12]
Later, the polonium and plutonium pellet quests unlock fusion (a quest in "?"), which leads through the laser quests to the Hohlraum (a quest in "?"). They also unlock the SPS (a quest in "?"), which asks for 58 extra Reactor Glass. The chapter also has a quest in "?", which asks for an Antimatter Pellet.[12]
Other chapters
- Basic Power asks for generators, energy cubes (a quest in "?", which also accepts the creative cube), then induction parts (a quest in "?") and a Fusion Reactor Controller (a quest in "?").[14]
- Basic Tools has sword and pickaxe quests for the Mekanism Tools materials, such as a quest in "?" for the Refined Obsidian Pickaxe.[13]
- Basic Armor has full-set quests for each armor material, plus the full MekaSuit in a quest in "?".[15]
- Basic Logistics starts with the configurator (a quest in "?"), which leads to the pipe, transporter, conductor and cable quests.[16]
Unverified The rest of the Basic Logistics chapter and any Mekanism quests in the main questline couldn't be confirmed.
Which Mekanism config options matter?
5 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Mekanism's settings live in the config/Mekanism folder, split across client.toml (visuals, sounds and GUI layout), common.toml (display units and a few shared toggles), general.toml (machines, multiblocks and world interaction) and gear.toml (every tool, armour and gadget value). Here are the ones you're most likely to touch in All the Mods 10, with the values this pack ships.[17][18][19][20]
Units and display
- energyType is set to FORGE_ENERGY, so Mekanism GUIs and network reader readings show FE/RF instead of Joules. Switch it to JOULES if you'd rather read the numbers the config files use.[18]
- temperatureUnit is KELVIN; the other choices are Celsius, Rankine, Fahrenheit and Ambient.[18]
- holidays is false in this pack, so holiday greetings and easter eggs are off and default-skin Robits won't get randomised skins.[18]
- enableDecayTimers is true, so radiation readings above safe levels show how long they'll take to decay.[18]
Performance and visuals
If Mekanism is costing you frames, client.toml is the first place to look. rendering.berRange is 256 blocks, which is how far multiblock contents and wind generators render; lowering it will likely increase performance at the cost of things popping in. accessibility.opaqueTransmitters is false, meaning cables, pipes, tubes, transporters and conductors render their contents. Set it to true if your transmitter networks are causing FPS issues.[17]
- Particle toggles for machines, magnetic attraction, multiblock formation and tool AOE bolts are all enabled. If you turn off rendering.particle.multiblockFormation, you get an action bar message when a multiblock forms instead of red sparkles.[17]
- Radiation particles use rendering.particle.radiationParticleCount at 100 and rendering.particle.radiationParticleRadius at 30 blocks.[17]
- Machine and player sounds are both on, with sounds.baseVolume at 1. Drop it below 1 to soften Mekanism's sounds without touching your other volume sliders.[17]
HUD and QIO
The MekaSuit HUD is enabled with hud.scale at 0.6, and hud.opacity sits well below fully opaque if you want to make it more solid. hud.jitter is 6, which controls how much the HUD sways when you move your head, and hud.reverse is off. The QIO Dashboard opens 8 slots wide by 4 tall, sorted by name ascending, with the search bar auto-focused.[17]
World interaction
- allowChunkloading is true, so the Anchor Upgrade and Dimensional Stabilizer both work.[20]
- aestheticWorldDamage is true: lasers can break blocks and the Flamethrower can start fires.[20]
- cardboard_box.modBlacklist contains the waystones and hyperbox mod ids in this pack, so Cardboard Boxes can't pick up blocks from either mod.[20]
- The Digital Miner reaches a maximum radius of 32 blocks and takes 80 ticks per block without upgrades, with a 12x energy multiplier in silk touch mode. Dragging items from a recipe viewer into filter slots is enabled.[20]
Gear tweaks worth knowing
- atomic_disassembler.veinMining is false, so the Disassembler's Vein Mining mode is disabled here. Fast and Slow modes are both enabled.[19]
- mekatool.extendedMining is true, letting the Meka-Tool vein mine anything rather than just ores and logs, and mekatool.maxTeleportReach allows teleports up to 100 blocks.[19]
- MekaSuit pieces and the Meka-Tool each hold 40,000,000 J before upgrades and accept 200,000 J per tick, both scaling quadratically with upgrades.[19]
- portable_teleporter.delay is 0 ticks, so Portable Teleporter jumps are instant once you click Teleport.[19]
- mekasuit.gravitationalVibrations is true, so flying with Gravitational Modulation sets off Sculk Sensors and Shriekers.[19]
