Oh The Biomes We've Gone is the sequel to the original BYG mod, and it's all about exploring. It adds over 50 biomes, from the magical to the realistic, along with new mobs, structures and hundreds of blocks to build with.[1]

This pack ships version 2.6.0 of the mod, so everything in this guide is based on that version.[2]

Who it's for

If you love exploring new landscapes and want fresh building materials, this mod is for you. It's less about machines and automation, and more about giving the world itself more variety and detail.[1]

Where it fits in the pack

The pack's quest book touches this mod in two places. In the Building Tips chapter, the quest "Oh The Biomes We've Gone Stones" quest points you to the four new stone types you'll find in the mod's biomes: Dacite, Red Rock, Mossy Stone and Rocky Stone. It unlocks after the Stone Blocks quest, so it's a nice nudge to try out new building palettes.[3]

First, turn the new logs into planks

Almost everything wooden in this mod starts with planks. Aspen Planks is the example here, and Baobab Planks and Blue Enchanted Planks are available too.[5]

After that, collect the new stones

The mod adds four stone types: Dacite, Red Rock, Mossy Stone and Rocky Stone. Getting any one of them completes the "Oh The Biomes We've Gone Stones" quest quest, which sits in the Building Tips chapter right after the Stone Blocks quest.[3]

You don't have to hunt for every stone, because some can be crafted. Rocky Stone has a shapeless crafting recipe.[5]

Oh The Biomes We've Gone is a sequel to the original BYG mod, and it focuses on world content rather than technical systems. The project page describes over 50 biomes, new mobs, structures and hundreds of blocks to use. So in this section you'll find the crafting and gameplay loops the sources actually show.[1]

Wood crafting

The recipes shown in the pack's recipe data for this mod are normal crafting recipes, both shaped and shapeless. Aspen and Baobab are the two wood types in the sources. Each has recipes for planks, slabs, stairs, doors, trapdoors, fences, fence gates, buttons, pressure plates, signs, hanging signs, boats, chest boats, bookshelves and crafting tables.[5]

Hanging signs are made with the stripped version of the log, such as Stripped Aspen Log. Here are a few Aspen examples.[5]

Advancement hints

The mod's advancement descriptions hint at some of its gameplay loops. One asks you to cook a Cattail on a campfire, with a warning to back away. Others ask you to obtain White Puffball Caps, get a Green Apple from the Skyris Vale, or craft both of the BWG pies.[6]

The exploration advancements point you toward the mod's world content. You can find all the Prairie houses, find all the inhabited BWG Villages, or explore all of the BWG biomes. There's also a Pale Bog challenge, and a Pixie Club music disc to track down.[6]

Good news and honest news: in this pack, Oh The Biomes We've Gone doesn't come with a tier ladder that I can confirm. The quests and recipes I have show a stone quest and a villager-profession quest, plus a lot of building-block crafting. So treat it as a building and exploration mod, not a progression gate.[3][4][5]

The stone quest

The main quest is "Oh The Biomes We've Gone Stones" quest in the Building Tips chapter, and it comes after the Stone Blocks quest. It asks you to get any one of Dacite, Red Rock, Mossy Stone or Rocky Stone. The quest text calls these the 4 new stone types you find in the new biomes.[3]

The quest also asks what makes Rocky Stone "rocky", but the text I have doesn't answer that.[3]

Getting each stone

Rocky Stone can be crafted by hand. It is a shapeless crafting recipe made from vanilla cobblestone and vanilla stone.[5]

Unverified The sources I have don't show how Red Rock is obtained in the first place, apart from the quest saying the stones are found in the mod's new biomes.

The Foragers Table

The other quest that touches this mod is "Mo' Professions" quest (Mo' Professions) in Tips and Tricks, which comes after Easy Villagers. It lists job-site blocks from many mods, and Foragers Table is one of the accepted items. The quest text says the Foragers Table gives the Forager villager profession.[4]

Everything else is optional building

Beyond those quests, the mod's recipes are mostly decorative sets. You get full wood sets such as Aspen Planks, Baobab Planks and Blue Enchanted Planks, with doors, signs, boats and bookshelves. There are also Black Sandstone and Blue Sandstone sets, and Cattail Thatch blocks. I can't confirm any quest or progression requirement attached to them, so use them whenever you like.[5]

The pack also changed Bibliocraft recipes for the black furniture variants made from BWG wood. That includes the Black Aspen Seat, the Black Aspen Display Case and the seat backs (small, flat, raised, fancy and tall). The same recipes repeat across wood types, including Baobab, Blue Enchanted, Cika, Cypress, Ebony and Fir. They use the matching BWG slab and black wool.[5]

Building Tips: the stones

"Oh The Biomes We've Gone Stones" quest sits in the Building Tips chapter and unlocks after the Stone Blocks quest. The quest text points out that the mod's new biomes add 4 stone types: Dacite, Red Rock, Mossy Stone and Rocky Stone.[3]

The task accepts any one of those four items, so you only need to find one. The quest also asks what makes Rocky Stone different from other stone, which earns it the name "Rocky". The pack's quest text doesn't answer that, so have a good look at it in-game.[3]
