What is Just Dire Things?

1 part

Just Dire Things is one of Direwolf's mods, and it's built around Goo. Goo is a strange block that seems to be alive. It consumes certain blocks placed next to it and turns them into brand-new resources. This pack ships version 1.5.7 of the mod.[1][2][3][4]

Your progression runs through four tiers of Goo. Each tier unlocks a stronger material, and higher tiers can do everything the lower ones can, only much faster.[3]

  1. Primogel Goo is crafted from basic Overworld materials and turns Iron into Ferricore.[5][6]
  2. Blazebloom Goo needs Nether materials and turns Gold into Blazegold.[6][7]
  3. VoidShimmer Goo needs End materials and turns Diamonds into Celestigem.[6][8]
  4. Shadowpulse Goo is made from the rarest materials and turns Netherite into Eclipse Alloy.[9]

Each material tier comes with its own tools and armor. You customize them by installing upgrades in a smithing table. When you move up a tier with the upgrade templates, your installed upgrades come along. Blazegold gear repairs itself when you drop it into lava. Celestigem armor stores 10,000 FE and Eclipse Alloy armor stores 500,000 FE, and you can keep both charged with a Pocket Generator.[6][10][11][12][13]

The mod also has a whole set of automation machines. Once you have Ferricore, the quest book opens up simple versions of the Simple Block Breaker, Simple Block Placer, Simple Clicker, Simple Sensor and generators. If you enjoy upgrading your gear bit by bit or automating chores, this mod is for you.[6][14]

Watch out: The pack's quest book marks the Ore Scanner upgrade as disabled for the Ferricore Pickaxe, so don't plan around it.[6]

Where it fits in this pack

The mod has its own quest chapter, and it starts with Primogel Goo in a quest in "Just Dire Things".[6]

It's also part of the ATM Star path in Chapter 3: The ATM Star. There, "Just Dire Things" quest asks for Primogel Goo and leads into "Paradox Machine" quest, which asks for the Paradox Machine. For a lot of power and Time Fluid, this machine takes a snapshot of the blocks and entities in an area and duplicates them. Many blocks and entities are blacklisted by the pack's configs, so no duplicating Bees![1]

Separately, "Dragon Familiar in a Creature Catcher" quest has you throw a Creature Catcher at a Dragon Familiar from an Occultism ritual to capture it for the ATM Star.[1][15]

How do you get started with Just Dire Things?

5 parts

Progression in Just Dire Things runs through goo. Goo is a strange, seemingly living block that converts certain blocks placed next to it into new resources. Each tier of goo can handle stronger blocks, and that is how the mod unlocks new materials and crafts. Your first goal is to get goo running.[2][3]

Craft Primogel Goo

Primogel Goo is the first tier of goo. You craft it from basic Overworld materials, and it's the first goo quest in the chapter, a quest in "Just Dire Things". It unlocks two things: Ferricore and Primal Coal.[5][6]

  1. Craft a goo block and place it in the world.[3]
  2. Activate it by feeding it the specific resource it consumes. The goo block tells you which one.[3]
  3. Place an eligible block next to the activated goo to start the transformation.[3]
Tip: After each transformation there's a 10% chance the goo goes inactive and needs to be fed again. Inactive goo can't start new transformations, but anything already in progress still finishes. Check on your goo now and then.[3]

Ferricore and Primal Coal

To get Ferricore, you perform Goo Spread on Iron Blocks using tier one goo or higher. The "Ferricore" quest quest asks for both Raw Ferricore and Ferricore Ingot. Most of the early quests, including the tools, armor and simple machines, require Ferricore.[6]

Primal Coal works the same way: you get it by performing Goo Spread on Coal Blocks with tier one goo or higher. Primal Coal Ore is affected by fortune. The upgraded coals are worth keeping, because higher tier fuels burn hotter and longer in a Pocket Generator.[6][13]

Ferricore tools and armor

Ferricore armor gives slightly more protection than iron, and your Ferricore tools and armor can all take upgrades. You make upgrades starting from Upgrade: Blank (quest a quest in "Just Dire Things"), and you install them on a smithing table. Hold shift while hovering over a tool or armor piece to see which upgrades it accepts.[6][16][17][18]

  • The Ferricore Pickaxe accepts Ore Miner, which auto-harvests connected ores.[6][19]
  • The Ferricore Axe accepts Tree Feller and Leaf Breaker.[6]
  • The Ferricore Hoe has No Trampling and Accelerated Crop Growth I built in.[6]
  • The Ferricore Leggings accept Run Speed and Walk Speed, and the Ferricore Boots accept Step Assist and Jump Boost.[6]
  • The Ferricore Bow accepts the Potion Arrow upgrade.[6]
Watch out: In this pack, the quests list Ore Scanner as DISABLED on the pickaxe, so don't plan your mining around it.[6]
Tip: By default the 'v' hotkey turns a tool on or off. When a tool is deactivated, ALL of its abilities are turned off. If your upgrades suddenly stop working, check this first.[18]

Your first machines

The simple machines unlock once you have Ferricore. Simple versions need no power. They usually act on the block or entity directly in front of them, and you set how fast they run with the Speed (ticks) button. This pack changed the recipes for the Simple Block Breaker and the Simple Block Placer, so use the in-pack versions below. Keep in mind that the Simple Block Breaker needs a tool to break blocks.[6][20][21]

Blazebloom Goo and Blazegold

Next you want Blazebloom Goo, quest a quest in "Just Dire Things". It needs Nether materials and unlocks Blazegold and Blaze Ember. To get Blazegold, you perform Goo Spread on Gold Blocks with tier two goo or higher. Blazegold gear has Lava Repair built in: drop it into a lava source block to repair it, which turns that source block into obsidian.[6]

You can also blast Raw Blazegold into an ingot.

You don't have to throw away your Ferricore gear. Put it on a smithing table with a Template: Blazegold to move it up a tier, and it keeps its installed upgrades. The Blazegold Pickaxe also accepts the Hammer upgrade, which mines a 3x3 area at this tier.[6][18][21][22]

How does Just Dire Things work?

7 parts

Just Dire Things is built around automation, and almost every machine comes in two flavours: a simple version and an advanced version. Simple machines need no power, but they usually only affect the block or entity directly in front of them. Advanced machines need power. In return, they work over a large area you can configure, have filters so you control what gets affected, and automatically charge any Forge Energy items you place inside them.[14][20]

Machine controls you'll see everywhere

  • Redstone button: by default redstone is ignored and the machine always runs. Low runs only without a redstone signal, High runs only with one, and Pulse does one operation per pulse. For a simple machine that's usually one action, like breaking one block. For an advanced machine it can mean breaking every block in its area.[23]
  • Speed (ticks): this sets how often the machine runs. The default of 20 means once per second, and you can go as low as 1, which is every tick. Only do that when you really need it, because it can add lag. In this pack the lowest allowed setting is still 1, controlled by general.minimum_machine_tick_speed.[23][24]
  • Area of effect: on advanced machines, click Render area to preview in the world what the machine will affect. RAD grows the radius, and OFF moves the centre of the area to a different position.[25]
  • Filters: drag entries in from JEI, or click a slot while holding an item. For entities, use a spawn egg or a Creature Catcher. You can switch between an allow list and a deny list, and Compare NBT lets you match details like enchantments, tool damage or a specific sheep colour.[25]
Tip: Setting up a row of identical machines? Use the Machine Settings Copier. Shift-right click a machine to copy its settings, then right click another machine to paste them. Click in the air to pick exactly which settings get copied.[26]

The automation machines

The Simple Block Breaker needs a tool, such as a pickaxe or shovel, and breaks the block it's facing. Each break damages the tool, or uses its power, just like when you mine a block yourself. The Advanced Block Breaker covers a much larger area and has two filter modes. Filter Block matches the block itself. Filter Item matches the drops, so a cobblestone filter in item mode will also break stone, because stone drops cobblestone unless the pick has silk touch. Its direction button picks which face gets hit, which matters when your tool has a hammer-style ability.[27][28]

The Simple Block Placer places the block from its inventory into the space in front of it. Its direction button controls which way the block is placed, which is handy for things like torches. The Advanced Block Placer adds filters for which blocks it may place on. That filter respects the direction setting too: set to down with a stone filter, it only places on top of stone.[29][30]

The Simple Swapper swaps blocks and/or entities between itself and a paired partner. To pair them, place two swappers, then right click the first and then the second with a Ferricore Wrench. A green button in the UI shows where it's bound. Block entities like chests swap just fine, and if you target players you get an early two-point teleporter. The Advanced Swapper adds area of effect and filtering. Changing the radius on one swapper copies it to its partner, so a pair can move entire houses and their contents.[31][32][33]

The Simple Clicker simulates right clicks, left clicks or held clicks with whatever item is in its slot. Leave the slot empty if you just want it to press a button. You can toggle sneak-clicking, set how long a hold click lasts, and choose a target: blocks, air, hostile, passive, adult, child, player or all living. The Advanced Clicker adds area and filters. Set it to left click hostiles for a mob farm, or to right click adults for an animal breeder.[34][35]

The Simple Sensor gives off a strong or weak redstone signal when its filter condition is met, and it can also detect item entities. With a block in its filter slot, right click the slot to match a specific block state, such as a door being open or closed. The Advanced Sensor counts how many matches are in its area. The default is greater than 0, and you can switch to less-than or equals and set a number. For example, it can signal when there are fewer than 10 adult cows, so a clicker knows to feed them.[36][37]

The Simple Dropper drops items into the block space it faces, downward by default. You can set how many items drop at once, from 1 up to 64. It can also set a pickup delay on dropped items, which defaults to 0. The Advanced Dropper can't change its radius, but it can change its offset. It has a 3x3 grid of items, and its filter slots decide which items drop and in what order. If it runs out of the next item in the order, it waits until more arrives.[38][39]

Watch out: All the Mods 10 changed the crafting recipes for both tiers of the Block Breaker, Block Placer and Swapper. The recipes below are the pack's versions, not the mod defaults.[21]

Power: generators and wireless energy

Everything runs on Forge Energy. The Simple Coal Generator burns any furnace fuel, but the mod's own coal tiers (Primal Coal, Blaze Ember, Voidflame Coal and Eclipse Ember) raise both the FE per tick and the total FE you get. The Simple Fuel Generator goes a step further and burns refined fuels, which come in 3 tiers.[40][41]

All the Mods 10 keeps the mod's default generator values. Here's what they are in this pack:[24]

Instead of running cables, you can send power wirelessly with the Energy Transmitter. Connect it to a power source, like the Coal or Fuel generators, to fill its internal buffer. Then set an area of effect, and every block inside that can receive Forge Energy starts getting charged. You can filter which machines get power. Two transmitters inside each other's area keep each other balanced automatically, and that balancing loses no energy.[42]

The wireless transfer itself does lose a little energy, on purpose, as a balance for wireless power. In this pack the loss is 1% per block of distance (energy_transmitter_t1.energy_transmitter_t1_loss_per_block). Each transmitter stores up to 1,000,000 FE and sends up to 1,000 FE per tick to machines and other transmitters. These are the mod defaults.[24][42]

The Fuel Canister helps you stop wasting a whole piece of coal to smelt one ore. Right click it to open its UI and put in any burnable fuel except lava buckets. Then place the canister in a furnace or generator and it burns fuel from its store. In this pack it holds up to 10,000,000 ticks of fuel and uses 200 ticks per furnace operation. Fuels from this mod pass their fuel multiplier into the canister, averaged with what's already inside. There's no way to get items back out, so only add what you mean to burn.[24][43]

To keep your powered tools and armor charged while you're out exploring, use the Pocket Generator. It burns coal, the mod's upgraded coals, or a Fuel Canister, and higher tier fuels give you more FE per tick.[13]

Fluids and experience

  • The Simple Fluid Collector picks up fluid in front of it into its internal buffer, and it can only hold one fluid at a time. Its item slot fills a bucket or a Fluid Canister. The advanced version works over a larger area, and you filter which fluids it collects by placing buckets of those fluids in the filter slots.[44][45]
  • The Simple Fluid Placer takes buckets or a Fluid Canister in its item slot and places fluid into the world once it has enough stored and the space in front of it is empty. The advanced version covers a larger area, and its filters decide which blocks it places fluid on.[46][47]
  • The Fluid Canister holds up to 8 buckets of liquid. Shift-right click it to set auto-filling of other fluid containers in your inventory: None, Just Dire Things items only, or All.[48]

The Experience Holder stores levels. Click plus or minus to move 1 level between you and the block, hold Shift to move 10, or hold Ctrl to move all of them. You can also set a target level for players in its area. For example, set it to 0 to bank your experience whenever you come home, or keep yourself at exactly level 30 while you enchant. It can collect nearby experience orbs, and it doubles as a fluid tank that converts experience into XP Fluid at 20mb per experience point, which pipes can pull out. It keeps its stored experience when you break it.[49]

Moving items around

  • The Item Collector works like an advanced machine, even though it's made from Tier 1 resources. It vacuums up item entities in its area and deposits them into the inventory it's attached to. You can filter what it picks up and increase its pickup speed.[50]
  • The Player Accessor lets hoppers and pipes insert into or extract from your own inventory. You choose which side reaches which slots, so the top face could equip armor while the bottom face handles your offhand.[51]
  • The Inventory Holder is basically a super advanced armor stand with a full player-style inventory. Ctrl-click an item in a slot to save it as that slot's filter. Filtered Items Only and Compare Stack Sizes then control what you and your pipes can insert or extract.[52]

Goo: where your materials come from

The mod's resource progression runs on goo. Craft a goo block and place it, activate it by feeding it the item it asks for, then put an eligible block next to it to start the transformation. Each goo tier can convert stronger blocks. Higher tiers can also make everything the lower tiers can, and they do it much faster.[3]

  • Primogel Goo turns Iron into Ferricore, and turns a coal block into Primal Coal.[5][53]
  • Blazebloom Goo turns a Gold Block into a Raw Blazegold Block. Mine that for Raw Blazegold, then smelt it into a Blazegold Ingot. Put a block of Primal Coal next to Blazebloom Goo to get Blaze Ember.[7][54][55][56]
  • VoidShimmer Goo turns a Diamond Block into a Raw Celestigem Block. Mine that for Celestigem.[8][57][58]
  • Shadowpulse Goo turns Netherite into Eclipse Alloy.[9]
Watch out: Goo can die. In this pack goo.goo_can_die is on, and goo.goo_death_chance is 0.1, which is a 10% chance after each finished transformation. Dead goo won't start new jobs, but anything already in progress finishes. Feed it another item to bring it back.[3][24]

Time manipulation

The Time Wand speeds up any ticking block, such as furnaces or crops. The first click makes it run twice as fast, and each further click doubles the speed again: 4x, then 8x, and so on. Each boost lasts 30 seconds and uses both Forge Energy and Time Fluid. All the Mods 10 raised the energy cost: time_wand.time_wand_rf_cost is 750 in this pack, up from the mod default of 100. That value is multiplied by the speed you're going to, so going from 128x to 256x costs 256 times 750 FE.[24][59]

Unverified The Time Wand's maximum speed multiplier comes from a config option whose value in this pack isn't shown in the available files, so the top speed is unverified.

The Paradox Machine takes a snapshot of raw ore blocks and entities in its area. After you clear that area, it can bring them back, at the cost of a significant amount of power and Time Fluid. A UI button switches between entities only, blocks only, or both. The restored entities may not be exactly identical to the ones you snapshotted.[60]

Watch out: Overusing the Paradox Machine builds up paradox energy, which the machine shows in its UI. Too much can spawn the Paradox, which permanently absorbs blocks, items and entities around it and grows faster the more it eats. You can seal it by tossing in a Time Crystal.[60][61]

How do you progress through Just Dire Things?

8 parts

Just Dire Things revolves around Goo, and in All the Mods 10 your first step is the "Just Dire Things" quest quest in the ATM Star chapter, which asks you for a Primogel Goo. From there, the mod's own quest chapter walks you through four tiers of goo, and each tier unlocks a new material, a new fuel and a new batch of gear.[1][6]

How goo drives progression

Place a goo block in the world, activate it by feeding it the resource it asks for (the goo block shows you what it wants), then put an eligible block next to it. The goo transforms that block into a new resource. The quests call this Goo Spread.[3][6]

Tip: After each transformation there's a 10% chance the goo needs feeding again before it can start a new one, so keep some of its activation item nearby. Higher tier goo can do everything a lower tier can and is much faster, so upgrade your goo setup as you go.[3]
  1. Tier one, Primogel Goo (a quest in "Just Dire Things"): crafted from basic Overworld materials. It turns Iron Blocks into Ferricore and Coal Blocks into Primal Coal.[5][6]
  2. Tier two, Blazebloom Goo (a quest in "Just Dire Things"): crafted from Nether materials. It turns Gold Blocks into Blazegold and Primal Coal Blocks into Blaze Ember.[6][7]
  3. Tier three, VoidShimmer Goo (a quest in "Just Dire Things"): crafted from End materials. It turns Diamond Blocks into Celestigem and Blaze Ember Blocks into Voidflame Coal.[6][8]
  4. Tier four, Shadowpulse Goo (a quest in "Just Dire Things"): the final tier, crafted from Ancient City and Warden materials. It turns Netherite Blocks into Eclipse Alloy and Voidflame Coal Blocks into Eclipse Ember, and it also unlocks the Time Crystal.[6][9]

Tier one: Ferricore

The "Ferricore" quest quest asks for Raw Ferricore and a Ferricore Ingot. Ferricore opens up a big part of the mod: the Ferricore tools, armor and bow, Upgrade: Blank as the base for every ability upgrade, the Ferricore Wrench, the Pocket Generator, and the whole set of simple machines. That set covers block breaker, block placer, clicker, sensor, dropper, fluid placer, fluid collector, plus the Simple Coal Generator and Simple Fuel Generator.[6]

Simple machines don't need power, but they generally only affect the block or entity directly in front of them. You can set how quickly they run with the Speed button.[20]

Watch out: ATM10 has changed the recipes for the simple machines, so don't rely on the default mod recipes you may remember. Check the in-pack recipes below.[21]

Moving gear up a tier

You don't have to start from scratch at each tier. Each tier has an upgrade template, and in the smithing table the template recipe turns your previous-tier tool or armor piece into the next tier while keeping every upgrade you installed. Upgrades are also installed in the smithing table, and holding shift over a piece shows which upgrades it accepts.[6][10][18][21]

Higher tiers are worth it for your upgrades too. On higher tier armor, active abilities have shorter cooldowns and passive abilities have stronger effects. Each tier also accepts more upgrades than the one before. For example, the Ferricore sword only lists Mob Scanner, while the Celestigem sword adds Auto Smoker, Cauterize Wounds and Drops Teleporter.[6]

Watch out: In this pack the quests mark the Ore Scanner upgrade as DISABLED for pickaxes and the paxel, so plan on Ore Miner instead.[6]

Tier three: Celestigem

The Celestigem quest (a quest in "Just Dire Things") unlocks the advanced machines, the Celestigem gear including the Celestigem Paxel, the Voidshift Wand and the Advanced Portal Gun. Advanced machines need power, but they can affect a large area you configure, they have filters, and they charge Forge Energy items placed inside them.[6][20]

The pack has changed the advanced machine recipes too, and they're built up from the simple versions.[21]

The fuel ladder

Fuels follow the goo tiers: Primal Coal, then Blaze Ember, then Voidflame Coal, then Eclipse Ember, with each one made by Goo Spreading a block of the previous fuel. All of these ores are affected by fortune.[6]

For liquid fuels, start with Polymorphic Fluid by dropping Polymorphic Catalyst into water. Drop Blaze Ember into Polymorphic Fluid and Goo Spread the result with tier two goo to get Blaze Ember Fuel. Then drop Voidflame Coal into Blaze Ember Fuel and Goo Spread that with tier three goo to get Voidflame Fuel. The Simple Fuel Generator runs on these fuels.[6]

Unverified How Eclipse Ember Fuel is made in this pack isn't covered by the available quest text.

Just Dire Things and the ATM Star

In the ATM Star chapter, "Paradox Machine" quest follows the Just Dire Things quest. The Paradox Machine uses a lot of power and Time Fluid to snapshot the blocks and entities in an area and then duplicate them, though configs blacklist many blocks and entities. You'll also need a Creature Catcher for the "Dragon Familiar in a Creature Catcher" quest quest.[1]

How does Just Dire Things work with other mods?

4 parts

Just Dire Things doesn't stay in its own corner in All the Mods 10. The pack weaves its goo, materials, fluids and machines into recipes from quite a few other mods, from bee breeding all the way up to endgame crafts. Here's where you'll run into it.[21]

Productive Bees

Each tier of goo can turn a bee into a matching resource bee. Primogel Goo makes a Ferricore bee, Blazebloom Goo a Blazegold bee, VoidShimmer Goo a Celestigem bee and Shadowpulse Goo an Eclipse Alloy bee. The pack has adjusted these conversion recipes, so check them in-game rather than relying on older guides.[21]

The other goo tiers work the same way for their own bees.

Centrifuging the honeycombs from these bees gives you Raw Ferricore, Raw Blazegold, Celestigem or Raw Eclipse Alloy, each with Wax. That lets you farm Just Dire Things materials without running goo spreads over and over.[21]

Time is part of the bee family too. The pack's Time bee spawn egg recipe uses the Time Crystal Block and a Time Fluid Bucket, and a centrifuge recipe tied to Time Fluid produces a Time Crystal along with Wax.[21]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: justdirethings:my_book_recipe_shapeless

Outside the mod's own quest chapter, the Basic Tools chapter has a quest, a quest in "Basic Tools", where a Ferricore pickaxe counts alongside pickaxes from other mods.[63]

Which All the Mods 10 quests use Just Dire Things?

4 parts

Just Dire Things shows up in two places in the questbook: its own "Just Dire Things" chapter, and a few steps on the ATM Star path in "Chapter 3: The ATM Star". The mod's own chapter hangs off the "Just Dire Things" quest quest in the ATM Star chapter, which only asks you to make your first Primogel Goo.[1][6]

The goo ladder

Everything in the chapter is built around the four tiers of goo. Each tier opens up new materials that you make by using Goo Spread on vanilla blocks. Here's the order you'll unlock them in:[6]

  1. a quest in "Just Dire Things" asks for Primogel Goo, made from basic Overworld materials. It unlocks Ferricore and Primal Coal.[6]
  2. a quest in "Just Dire Things" asks for Blazebloom Goo, which needs Nether materials. It unlocks Blazegold and Blaze Ember.[6]
  3. a quest in "Just Dire Things" asks for VoidShimmer Goo, which needs End materials. It unlocks Celestigem and Voidflame.[6]
  4. a quest in "Just Dire Things" asks for Shadowpulse Goo, the final tier, which needs Ancient City and Warden materials. It unlocks Eclipse Alloy, Eclipse Ember and Time Crystal.[6]

Materials and fuels

Branching off each goo tier are the material quests. For each one, you Goo Spread onto the matching block.[6]

The fluid line starts with a quest in "Just Dire Things". You make Polymorphic Fluid Bucket by dropping Polymorphic Catalyst into water. From there you move on to a quest in "Just Dire Things" for Portal Fluid, a quest in "Just Dire Things" for Blaze Ember Fuel and a quest in "Just Dire Things" for Voidflame Fuel. Each of these is made by dropping an item into a fluid and then Goo Spreading the unrefined result.[6]

Watch out: Unstable Portal Fluid can only exist in the End, so plan to do the Portal Fluid step there with tier three goo or higher.[6]

Machines, gear and gadgets

Once you have Ferricore, a batch of simple machine quests opens up: the block breaker, placer, clicker, sensor, dropper, fluid placer and collector, and the coal and fuel generators. The advanced versions of those machines are tied to the Celestigem quest instead.[6]

Each material also has its own set of tool, armor and bow quests: Ferricore, then Blazegold, then Celestigem, which adds Celestigem Paxel. These quest descriptions list which upgrades each piece accepts. a quest in "Just Dire Things" introduces Upgrade: Blank, the base of every ability. The individual upgrade quests then hang off the Tool Upgrades and Armor Upgrades quests.[6]

Watch out: The Ore Scanner upgrade is marked DISABLED on the pickaxe and paxel quests in this pack, so don't plan around it.[6]
Tip: You apply upgrades at a smithing table. Hold shift while hovering over a JDT tool or armor piece to see which upgrades it accepts.[6]

There are also gadget quests. a quest in "Just Dire Things" covers the Fuel Canister, which stores 50,000 fuel. Others cover the Pocket Generator, Portal Gun, Creature Catcher and Totem of Death Recall. Later, a quest in "Just Dire Things" brings the Advanced Portal Gun, which runs on power plus Portal Fluid.[6]

On the ATM Star path

In "Chapter 3: The ATM Star", "Paradox Machine" quest follows the Just Dire Things quest and asks for a Paradox Machine. It snapshots blocks and entities for a lot of power and Time Fluid, although many things are blacklisted by config. "Dragon Familiar in a Creature Catcher" quest comes after the Occultism quest and has you throw a Creature Catcher at your Dragon Familiar.[1]

Unverified The later parts of the Just Dire Things chapter, such as the Eclipse Alloy gear, the remaining upgrades and the Time Crystal quest, could not be confirmed from the available quest data.

Which Just Dire Things config options matter?

4 parts

Just Dire Things has a lot of config options, but in All the Mods 10 8.1 almost all of them are left at the mod's defaults. The pack ships two copies of the settings: the server config and a defaultconfigs version. Of the options where the pack file lists the mod default, only one was changed, and it's a big one for anyone who loves speeding things up with the Time Wand.[24][64]

Time Wand: the one real change

time_wand.time_wand_rf_cost is set to 750 FE in this pack, up from the mod default of 100. That cost is multiplied by the acceleration amount, so every step up in speed costs much more power than in a standalone install. Both config files agree on 750.[24][64]

The other Time Wand settings are at their defaults. time_wand.time_wand_max_multiplier caps acceleration at 128. The wand holds 100,000 FE (time_wand.time_wand_rf_capacity), and it also uses 0.5 Time Fluid multiplied by the acceleration amount (time_wand.time_wand_fluid_cost).[24][64]

Watch out: Fake players can't use the Time Wand in this pack, because time_wand.time_wand_fake_player_allowed is false. That means you can't automate it with clickers.[24][64]

Abilities

Nearly every tool and armor ability is switched on. The exception is abilities.orescanner, which is set to false in both config files. Don't plan your ore hunting around the Ore Scanner ability.[24][64]

Area abilities like ore miner and tree feller can only break a limited number of blocks per use, and the limit depends on the tool tier. All four limits are at their defaults:[24][64]

Where the two files disagree

Two settings have different values in the pack's two files. general.minimum_machine_tick_speed is 1 in the server config, which is the mod default and means machines can run every tick. The defaultconfigs version, general.minimum_machine_tick_speed, sets it to 20.[24][64]

paradox_machine.paradox_restricted_mobs is true in the server config but false in paradox_machine.paradox_restricted_mobs. When it's on, most modded mobs may not clone well in the Paradox Machine. When it's off, there's a small chance of item dupe bugs.[24][64]

Unverified The sources don't say which of the two files your world actually uses, so the live machine tick speed and Paradox Machine mob filtering can't be confirmed here.

Other handy numbers

  • Paradox Machine: each restored block or entity costs 250,000 FE and 50 mb of Time Fluid. The machine holds 10,000,000 FE and 16,000 mb, and each restore adds 0.25 Paradox Energy. At 100 Paradox Energy it spawns a Paradox![24][64]
  • Goo can randomly die when it finishes crafting, with a 0.1 (10%) chance, and needs a right-click with an item to revive it (goo.goo_death_chance).[24][64]
  • Time Crystals use the normal growth rules: Stage 1 in the Overworld (or any dimension besides the Nether and End), Stage 2 in the Nether, Stage 3 in the End (time_crystal.time_crystal_custom_dimensions is false).[24]
  • Energy Transmitters move up to 1,000 RF per tick, store 1,000,000, and lose 1% per block of distance.[24][64]
  • Portal Gun V1 costs 1,000 FE per shot and holds 100,000 FE. V2 costs 5,000 FE per shot and holds 1,000,000 FE.[24][64]

What changed in Just Dire Things between versions?

1 part

All the Mods 10 8.1 ships Just Dire Things 1.5.7, from the file justdirethings-1.5.7.jar. The mod has been in the pack for a long time: it was first included in All the Mods 10 2.25 or earlier.[4]

Updates across pack releases

The pack changelogs show the mod getting a series of version bumps through the early pack releases, and then one more update in pack release 5.5. Here's the timeline, oldest first.[65][66][67][68][69]

  • All the Mods 10 2.26 updated Just Dire Things from 1.5.1 to 1.5.2.[65]
  • All the Mods 10 2.28 updated it from 1.5.2 to 1.5.3.[66]
  • All the Mods 10 2.33 updated it from 1.5.3 to 1.5.4.[67]
  • All the Mods 10 2.42 updated it from 1.5.4 to 1.5.5.[68]
  • All the Mods 10 5.5 updated it from 1.5.5 to 1.5.7.[69]

Version 1.5.7, the one added in pack release 5.5, is still the version in All the Mods 10 8.1.[4][69]

Unverified The mod's own changelogs for these jars aren't available here, so the specific features, fixes or balance changes in each Just Dire Things version can't be confirmed. If something behaves differently from an older video or guide, check the mod's changelog for the version you're running.
