What is Eternal Starlight?

3 parts

Eternal Starlight is a dimension mod that adds the Starlight dimension, a magical and mysterious realm full of wonder, danger and discovery. It is packed with new biomes, rare ingredients, unique mobs and plenty of tools and weapons to find. If you love exploring a fresh world and fighting bosses, this one's for you. This pack runs version 0.8.1 for Minecraft 1.21.1 on NeoForge.[1][2]

Getting to the Starlight

Your journey starts in the Overworld. Look for Starlight Portal Ruins and challenge the Gatekeeper you find there. Beat him and he gives you items that let you go through the portal into a whole new world.[1][3]

The key item is the Orb of Prophecy. Its main job is activating the portal, and you can either win it from the Gatekeeper or craft it.[4]

Bosses and materials

The bosses in the Starlight live in their own structures, and those structures aren't common. To find them, throw a Seeking Eye like an Eye of Ender and follow it. The item you hold in your offhand sets which structure it points to. Then follow the clues on the Glimmering Tablet to track each boss down.[1][4]

The dimension also has its own gear materials. Thermal Springstone for the Thermal Springstone Ingot is found in Hot Ponds. Aethersent Ore for the Aethersent Ingot shows up where big meteors land during rare meteor showers. Raw Amaramber rarely drops when you strip Torreya Logs, and you can turn it into ingots for armor and tools.[4]

Where it fits in the pack

The pack gives Eternal Starlight its own quest chapter, which walks you through its biomes, ores, bosses and gear.[4]

The mod also appears on the ATM Star path. Chapter 3: The ATM Star includes the "Eternal Starlight" quest quest, which asks for a Glimmering Tablet. After that comes "Chain of Souls" quest, for the Chain of Souls. This is a grappling-hook-style tool with a range of about 90 blocks, and the materials to make it come from killing a Lunar Monstrosity.[3]

Unverified Exactly which Eternal Starlight items are used in the ATM Star recipe itself could not be confirmed.

How do you get started with Eternal Starlight?

3 parts

Eternal Starlight adds the starlight dimension, and getting there is your first goal. Look for the Starlight Portal Ruins in the Overworld and face The Gatekeeper to unlock the gateway to the stars.[1]

Get the Orb of Prophecy

The Orb of Prophecy is what opens the portal. You can craft it or get it by beating the Gatekeeper. The quest a quest in "Eternal Starlight" says it will have more uses later on.[4][5]

This is the in-pack recipe for the portal key.

Craft a Seeking Eye

Once you're in, the bosses live in structures that aren't common. The Seeking Eye is how you find them. It works like an Ender Eye: right click to throw it, then follow it to the structure.[4]

The Seeking Eye uses this in-pack recipe.

Tip: To choose which structure the Seeking Eye points to, hold a certain item in your offhand. For the Cursed Garden, use things like vines, Lunar Berries, Cave Moss or the Red and Blue Crystal Moss Carpets and Roots. For the Golem Forge, use Redstone, Golem Steel or Oxidized Golem Steel. The Golem Forge is underground.[4]

The mod page also says to follow the clues on the Glimmering Tablet to track each boss down.[1]

Sort out food and early materials

Lunar Berries are an easy early food. They grow down from Lunar Tree leaves in the Starlight Forest and Dense Starlight Forest, and you pluck them like Glow Berries. They give much more food points and saturation than Glow Berries do. Plant a Lunar Sapling if you want a steady supply.[4]

Saltpeter Powder comes from Saltpeter ore, found anywhere underground and very commonly in the Warm Shore biome. You need a Stone Pickaxe to mine it, it drops a couple of powder, and Fortune works on it. The pack has changed its smelting, blasting and block recipes, so don't assume the mod's defaults.[4][6]

For gear, you have two early options. Raw Amaramber is found rarely by stripping Torreya logs, and can be made into ingots for armor and tools. Thermal Springstone Ingot comes from Thermal Springstone found in Hot Ponds, which are not a biome or structure, so you just have to look around for them.[4][5]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: eternal_starlight:shapeless/amaramber_ingot

This is the in-pack recipe that turns Raw Amaramber into an ingot.

Stellagmite is found underground and works like normal stone, so you can make it into other blocks. Its molten version works like a Magma Block.[4]

How does Eternal Starlight work?

5 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Eternal Starlight is mostly an exploration and adventure mod, so you won't find big tech-style factories here. Its systems are mainly a couple of machine-type blocks plus world interactions with blocks, fluids and creatures. Here's what we can confirm for All the Mods 10 8.1.[1][7]

Machines

The main machine is the Crystalborn Catalyst, which the mod describes as a crystal-fueled and redstone-powered machine. So it runs on crystals as fuel and needs a redstone signal to work, instead of using a separate energy network.[7]

Unverified We couldn't confirm what the Crystalborn Catalyst produces, which crystals it accepts as fuel, how fast it works or whether it accepts hoppers or pipes.

The mod also has a recipe type called Alloy Furnace Cooling, which appears as its own category in JEI. When you find an alloy-related item, check JEI for this category to see exactly what it turns into.[7]

The Accumulator

The Accumulator is another craftable block, and All the Mods 10 changed its recipe. Its crafting now involves a Golem Steel Nugget, so you'll need some Golem Steel before you can make one. Use the recipe below instead of the one from the original mod.[8]

Unverified What the Accumulator actually does in-game is not covered by the available sources.

Starfire and Starfire Birds

Starfire is a key resource, and you don't mine it. You get it by helping Starfire Birds breed: put seeds into their nests and they'll reward you with Starfire.[7]

Once you have some Starfire, you can craft an Acacia Starfire Bird Aviary, which uses Starfire in its recipe.[8]

Starfire also works as a throwable. Throw it at sand and you get Flowglaze, so keep a few pieces around.[7]

World interactions that give you resources

Many of the mod's materials come from interacting with the world instead of from machines. Here are the confirmed ones:[7]

  • Stripping Torreya logs can give you Raw Amaramber.[7]
  • Stellagmite, found underground, can be melted by lava.[7]
  • To get Aurora Deer antlers, enrage an Aurora Deer and make it run into some hard blocks, then collect the antlers.[7]
  • Dusted Shard can be found on the ocean floor.[7]
  • You get a Tooth of Hunger by killing a Thirst Walker or by blocking its attack.[7]
Tip: Thermal Springstone comes with a hint: only flames can destroy the giant plants that live around it. Bring fire.[7]

Golems and helpers

You can build your own golems, much like a vanilla iron golem. Put a Carved Lunaris Cactus Fruit on a Block of Aethersent to summon an Aethersent Golem, or put it on a Grimstone Brick to summon a Grimstone Golem.[7]

Crafting Shaped

9 × Aethersent Ingot

Recipe id: eternal_starlight:aethersent_block

Some mobs can work for you too. You can hire a Stranghoul for one day with a bowl of Pungency Stew. You can tame a Crystallized Moth, which attacks with sound waves, by feeding it enough meat.[7]

Unverified No source covers power, fluid or item transport systems, multiblock structures or automation compatibility for this mod. We also couldn't confirm what the Ether fluid does beyond the fact that you can stand in it.

How do you progress through Eternal Starlight?

4 parts

Here's how your journey through the Starlight dimension is laid out in the pack. Everything starts with the "Eternal Starlight" quest quest. You find Eternal Starlight Portal Ruins in the Overworld and challenge the Gatekeeper. If you win, he gives you some items, and with them you can enter the portal to the new dimension.[3]

Step 1: Getting through the portal

The Orb of Prophecy can be crafted or dropped by the Gatekeeper. Its main use is activating the portal, and the quest says there will be more uses for it. It comes right after the Gatekeeper and gate quest, see a quest in "Eternal Starlight".[4]

Step 2: Finding the bosses

Boss structures are rare, so the "Finding the Bosses" quest quest points you to the Seeking Eye. It works like an Ender Eye: right-click to throw it and follow it. You hold a certain item in your offhand to choose which structure it searches for.[4]

To kill the Lunar Monstrosity you have to set it on fire. The "Burn it!" quest quest says you can use Flint and Steel or a Saltpeter Matchbox.[4]

The pack has changed the recipes that turn saltpeter ore and saltpeter blocks into Saltpeter Powder. Those recipes accept any item from the saltpeter ore or saltpeter storage block tags.[6]

Step 3: Material tiers

Gear in the Starlight comes from several materials, each with its own quest line. The quests don't rank them, so treat them as parallel branches and pick them up as you find the materials.[4]

Step 4: Golem Steel and boss drops

Golem Steel and Oxidized Golem Steel are the items the quest book uses to point the Seeking Eye at the Golem Forge. In the pack you can smelt or blast an oxidized ingot back into a regular Golem Steel Ingot, and there's also an alloy recipe for it.[4][6]

Golem Steel goes into the Mechanical Crossbow, which the quest calls a much stronger crossbow that can be enchanted. The Crystal Crossbow deals the same damage as a normal crossbow but applies Crystal Infection, which does 1 damage every second. Both sit behind the Starlight Golem quest line.[4][6]

The Lunar Monstrosity drops materials for the Chain of Souls, a grappling-hook-style item with a range of about 90 blocks. How does Eternal Starlight work with other mods?

4 parts

Eternal Starlight mostly stands on its own, but this pack ties its items and woods into a few other mods through recipes. These are the connections the pack's recipes and quests confirm.[6]

Dragon Soul

The pack adds a shaped recipe for the Dragon Soul that uses the Starlight dimension's Chain of Souls alongside items from Allthemodium, Cataclysm, Occultism, Apothic Enchanting, Productive Bees and Productive Trees.[6]

Sawing Starlight wood

The pack adds sawing recipes for every Eternal Starlight wood type: Banyin, Cradlewood, Jinglestem, Lunar, Northland, Scarlet and Torreya. Each one takes any log from that wood's log tag and gives you the matching planks.[6]

In Mekanism's sawing recipe, the logs produce planks and also Sawdust as a second output. Lunar is shown below, and the other woods follow the same pattern.[6]

Productive Trees works differently. Its sawmill recipe takes Sawdust together with a log and gives you the planks.[6]

Bibliocraft furniture

Bibliocraft has display cases and seats made from Eternal Starlight woods. The pack changes these recipes so they use the matching Starlight slab, such as Banyin Slab, plus wool of the chosen color. Display cases also need glass.[6]

The recipe data shows black versions for every Starlight wood listed above: display case, seat, and the small, flat, raised, fancy and tall seat backs. For other colors it only shows the blue Banyin display case, Blue Banyin Display Case. The black Banyin seat below is one example.[6]

Saltpeter as a Niter substitute

The pack's Eternal Starlight quest a quest in "Eternal Starlight" says Saltpeter Powder can be used as a replacement for other Niters. That is the quest's own wording, and it doesn't name which recipes or mods it applies to.[4]

Which All the Mods 10 quests use Eternal Starlight?

4 parts

Eternal Starlight shows up in three quest chapters in this pack: the ATM Star chapter, its own Eternal Starlight chapter, and Basic Armor. A Basic Tools chapter exists too, but I can't see its contents.[3][4][9]

Starting out: the ATM Star chapter

Everything starts with "Eternal Starlight" quest, which asks you to hold a Glimmering Tablet. You find Eternal Starlight Portal Ruins around the Overworld, challenge the Gatekeeper there, and use what he gives you to enter the portal.[3]

Right after it comes "Chain of Souls" quest, which wants a Chain of Souls. It works like a grappling hook with a range of about 90 blocks, and you get its materials from the Lunar Monstrosity. The Eternal Starlight chapter also says this item is needed for the ATM Star.[3][4]

The Eternal Starlight chapter

This chapter branches out from its starting quest. First is the Orb of Prophecy quest, a quest in "Eternal Starlight". It comes after a Gatekeeper and portal quest, and the orb's main use is activating the portal.[4]

  1. "Finding the Bosses" quest asks for a Seeking Eye, which works like an Ender Eye to lead you to boss structures. You set which structure it seeks with an item in your offhand.[4]
  2. "Monstrosity Items" quest lists the offhand items (vines, crystal moss carpets, lunar berries, cave moss and crystal roots) that lead the Seeking Eye to the Cursed Garden.[4]
  3. "Golem Items" quest lists the offhand items (Redstone, Golem Steel or Oxidized Golem Steel) that lead it to the underground Golem Forge.[4]
  4. "Burn it!" quest comes after the Cursed Garden. You must set the Lunar Monstrosity on fire, using Flint and Steel or a Saltpeter Matchbox.[4]

The boss-drop quests follow. The Lunar Monstrosity leads to the Moonring Bow (a quest in "Eternal Starlight"), the Wand of Teleportation (a quest in "Eternal Starlight"), the Crescent Spear (a quest in "Eternal Starlight") and the Chain of Souls (a quest in "Eternal Starlight"). The Starlight Golem leads to the Energy Sword (a quest in "Eternal Starlight"), the Mechanical Crossbow (a quest in "Eternal Starlight") and the Crystal Crossbow (a quest in "Eternal Starlight"). The Moonring Greatsword (a quest in "Eternal Starlight") needs drops from both bosses.[4]

Material and gear lines

Each material has a discovery quest followed by a set of tool and armor quests. Thermal Springstone starts at a quest in "Eternal Starlight", found in hot ponds. Aethersent starts at a quest in "Eternal Starlight", from meteor showers, and unlocks armor pieces plus the Starfall Longbow and Rage of Stars. Glacite starts at a quest in "Eternal Starlight" in the Permafrost Forest, and its gear helps against freezing damage. Amaramber starts at a quest in "Eternal Starlight" after the Torreya Forest quests. Swamp Silver starts at a quest in "Eternal Starlight" after the Dark Swamp quests.[4]

Smaller side quests cover Thioquartz (a quest in "Eternal Starlight", leading to the Alchemist Mask and Alchemist Robe) and Saltpeter (a quest in "Eternal Starlight", leading to the matchbox).[4]

Basic Armor chapter

This chapter has collection quests for "Golem Steel" quest, "Blue Starlight Crystal" quest, "Thioquartz" quest, "Tenacious Petal" quest and "Glacite" quest. It also has full-set armor quests: "Aethersent Armor" quest, "Swamp Silver Armor" quest, "Glacite Armor" quest and "Thermal Springstone Armor" quest. Two quests cover armor trims: "Keeper Armor Trim" quest is traded from the Gatekeeper, and "Forge Armor Trim" quest drops from the Starlight Golem.[9]

Unverified The Basic Armor listing is cut off after Swamp Silver, and the Basic Tools chapter contents weren't available, so any other Eternal Starlight quests there and their order are unconfirmed.

Which Eternal Starlight config options matter?

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Eternal Starlight is a dimension mod that adds the magical, mysterious Starlight dimension. Its project page covers getting there, the bosses and what you can explore, but it doesn't go into config settings.[1]

Unverified This section can't list which config options matter or how All the Mods 10 8.1 sets them, because none of this mod's config files from the pack were available to check. That means no confirmed option names, defaults or pack changes yet. If you want to check for yourself, look in your instance's config folder for this mod's files.

What changed in Eternal Starlight between versions?
