What is Eternal Starlight?

2 parts

Eternal Starlight is a dimension mod that drops a whole magical realm into your world: a mystical place bathed in starlight, full of wonder, danger and discovery. If you like exploration mods with their own biomes, mobs, bosses and gear trees rather than machines and pipes, this is the one to put on your list.[1]

This pack ships Eternal Starlight 0.1.16 for Minecraft 1.21.1 on NeoForge, and it has been part of the pack since at least version 0.42.[2]

Getting in

Your way in starts in the Overworld. Go looking for the Starlight Portal Ruins, then beat The Gatekeeper there to open the gateway to the stars.[1]

Once you are through, the dimension is built around exploration and boss hunting. You use the Seeking Eye to locate each boss, then follow the clues on the Glimmering Tablet to actually track it down. Between fights you will find diverse biomes, rare ingredients, unique mobs and a big spread of tools and weapons.[1]

Where it fits in this pack

Eternal Starlight gear shows up early in the pack's tool progression quests, so you will bump into it even if you were not planning a full trip to the stars. Several basic tool quests accept its equipment alongside gear from other adventure mods, which makes the dimension a solid alternative route to a mid-game weapon or pickaxe.[3]

The mod also appears in the pack's second chapter, where a quest in "?" asks for the Glimmering Tablet and unlocks a quest in "?", which wants the Chain of Souls.[4]

Tip: Grab the Seeking Eye before you start wandering. Hunting bosses without it means searching a dimension full of biomes by hand.[1]

How do you get started with Eternal Starlight?

5 parts

Eternal Starlight adds a whole magical dimension bathed in starlight, full of biomes, mobs and gear you won't find anywhere else. Your first job isn't crafting at all: you need to get in.[1]

Step 1: Find the portal and beat the Gatekeeper

Head out into the Overworld and look for the Starlight Portal Ruins. The Gatekeeper guards them, and passing its trial is what opens the gateway to the stars. You also need the Orb of Prophecy, which is the item used to open the portal.[1][5]

Tip: The pack tracks your progress here with advancements: entering the Starlight dimension and passing the gatekeeper's trial both have their own entries, so check your advancement screen if you're not sure what you've done.[5]

Step 2: Your first tools

Once you're in, the earliest gear comes from the dimension's own materials. Glacite is the one the pack calls out specifically: obtaining a Glacite Shard is an advancement in its own right, and the pack's quest book asks you for a Glacite Sword as its own separate task.[3][5]

The pack's pickaxe quest accepts either the Glacite Pickaxe or the Thermal Springstone Pickaxe, so whichever material you find first will do. There's an earlier pickaxe quest that takes the eternal_starlight:swamp_silver_pickaxe as one of its options.[3]

For weapons, the pack's sword quest will accept a Thermal Springstone Sword, a eternal_starlight:swamp_silver_sword, a Shattered Sword or an Energy Sword, so you have plenty of routes to tick it off.[3]

Step 3: Armour worth wearing

Each armour set in this mod does something on top of the raw numbers, which is why it's worth picking one deliberately. Glacite armour freezes enemies that damage you and makes you immune to freeze damage. Thermal springstone armour ignites enemies that damage you and cuts the fire damage you take. Swamp silver armour makes you immune to certain negative effects. Later on, aethersent armour summons meteors over an enemy's head when you're hurt.[5]

Tip: Thermal springstone is gated behind a trick rather than a tool tier: only flames can destroy the giant plants that grow where it's found.[5]

Step 4: Follow the quest chapter

The pack has a dedicated chapter for this dimension. It starts by asking you for the Glimmering Tablet, and once you hand that in it unlocks a follow-up quest for a Chain of Souls.[4]

Step 5: Hunt the bosses

When you're geared up, craft a Seeking Eye from an Ender Pearl and eight Starlight Flowers to locate each boss, then follow the clues on the Glimmering Tablet to track them down. Before you use the Seeking Eye, put the related item in your other hand.[1][5]

Watch out: The two bosses here aren't straight fights. You have to deactivate the Energy Block before the Starlight Golem is vulnerable to your attacks, and you have to ignite the Lunar Monstrosity before it becomes vulnerable to yours.[5]

After that, the dimension opens up: the Moonring Greatsword has its own quest in the pack, and Aethersent gear sits at the top of the progression.[3][5]

How does Eternal Starlight work?

8 parts

Eternal Starlight is a dimension mod, not a tech mod. Its "systems" are exploration systems: getting the portal open, tracking down bosses, and unlocking mechanics that change how those fights and your gear behave. Everything below is what the pack's files and the mod's own tooltips confirm.[1][5]

Unverified No machines, multiblocks, power or fluid networks, or automation systems for this mod could be confirmed from the available sources, and no config files for it were found in the pack. If the mod adds anything of that kind beyond what's described here, it isn't documented in what we have.

Opening the way in

The entry loop starts in the Overworld: find the Starlight Portal Ruins, then face the Gatekeeper to unlock the gateway to the stars. Passing the gatekeeper's trial is its own milestone.[1][5]

The Orb of Prophecy is the key item on this path, and it can be used to open the portal.[5]

Finding bosses

Bosses aren't found by wandering. You use a Seeking Eye to locate each one, then follow the clues on the Glimmering Tablet to track it down.[1]

Tip: The Seeking Eye works off what you're holding: before using it, put the related item in your other hand.[5]

There's also a Crest ability called Guidance of Stars that helps you find the ruins where the powerful creatures live, so it pairs naturally with boss hunting.[5]

Crests

Crests are activated abilities with distinct effects rather than passive stats.[5]

  • Blazing Beam fires a laser beam in the direction you're facing.[5]
  • Boulder's Shield provides the resistance effect.[5]
  • Guidance of Stars helps you find the ruins where the powerful creatures live.[5]

Boss vulnerability gimmicks

The big fights aren't straight damage races. Each one has a state you have to break before your hits matter.[5]

  • Starlight Golem: deactivate the Energy Block to make it vulnerable to your attacks.[5]
  • Lunar Monstrosity: ignite it to make it vulnerable to your attacks.[5]
  • Grimstone Golem: summoned by putting a Carved Lunaris Cactus Fruit on a Grimstone Brick.[5]

Armor set bonuses

Several armor sets have a bonus that only applies when you're wearing the full set, and they're reactive rather than passive buffs.[5]

  • Aethersent armor summons meteors over an enemy's head when you're hurt.[5]
  • Glacite armor freezes enemies that damage you and makes you immune to freeze damage.[5]
  • Thermal Springstone armor ignites enemies that damage you and reduces the amount of fire damage you take.[5]
  • Swamp Silver armor makes you immune to certain negative effects.[5]

The Dagger of Hunger

This weapon runs on your hunger bar as a resource. Attacking with it restores hunger value, and while you're full you get an attack damage and attack speed bonus. The catch: when you're hungry, it eats the player instead.[5]

Gathering quirks

A few materials aren't mined the way you'd expect, and the mod's advancements spell out the trick for each.[5]

  • Raw Amaramber comes from stripping Torreya Logs.[5]
  • Tooth of Hunger drops from killing a Thirst Walker, or from blocking its attack.[5]
  • For Thermal Springstone, note that only flames can destroy the giant plants that live in that area.[5]
  • Ether is a fluid you can stand in, and there's a meteor rain event to witness in the dimension.[5]

Some mobs have interaction mechanics too: a Gleech's egg can be thrown to hit a creature, and a Tangled Skull's death explosion can be chained to kill another Tangled Skull.[5]

Crafting and automation

On the crafting side there's nothing exotic to plug into. Every Eternal Starlight recipe in the pack dump is a plain vanilla shaped or shapeless crafting-table recipe, so anything that can autocraft vanilla recipes handles this mod's items without special support.[6]

Recipes are also tag-driven in places, which matters for automation: ingot and nugget inputs resolve through common tags such as the aethersent and amaramber ingot tags, and Blaze Crystal accepts anything in a dedicated ingredient tag alongside a Red Starlight Crystal Shard.[6]

Storage blocks work the usual way in both directions, so Aethersent Ingot and Aethersent Nugget compress and decompress freely, and the same goes for eternal_starlight:atalphaite and eternal_starlight:atalphaite_block.[6]

Watch out: The pack changed one of this mod's recipes: the Amaramber Lantern recipe is not the mod default here. Check the in-game recipe before you build a crafting pattern for it.[6]

How do you progress through Eternal Starlight?

5 parts

There's no single linear tech tree for this mod in the pack, so the clearest way to read its progression is through the pack's own quests plus the in-pack recipes. Two quest chapters touch it: the basic tools chapter, where its weapons and pickaxes count as valid early gear, and the second story chapter, which sends you after two specific items.[3][4]

The tool quests

In the basic tools chapter, most of the entries are shared with other dimension mods, so an Eternal Starlight tool is one of several ways to tick them off. Two entries, though, only accept this mod's gear, which makes them the clearest progression markers.[3]

Craftable tool tiers

The three tool lines the quests point at are all straightforward bench crafts hanging off the mod's own material tags, so the gating is really about which material you've found rather than any machine or ritual.[6]

The story chapter

Later gear

Past the quest line the mod keeps going with its own armour sets and specialist weapons, all bench-crafted from later materials: the aethersent set, the Alchemist Mask and Alchemist Robe, amaramber armour and tools, the Crescent Spear, the Crystal Crossbow and the Dagger of Hunger.[6]

A pack-changed recipe

One recipe in this mod is changed by the pack rather than left at the mod default: the Amaramber Lantern. The mod's own swamp silver variant is still present too, so both routes exist side by side.[6]

Unverified Relative stats between the tool tiers (durability, damage, mining level) and where each material is found in the dimension aren't covered by the pack files used for this page, so treat the ordering above as quest order, not a power ranking.

How does Eternal Starlight work with other mods?

4 parts

Eternal Starlight doesn't live in its own bubble in this pack. The connections are mostly recipes the pack adds itself, plus a handful of quests that treat Starlight gear as interchangeable with gear from other dimension mods. Here is what the sources confirm.[3][4][6]

Starlight Prediction conversions

The pack adds a whole family of shapeless crafting recipes that turn vanilla blocks and items into their Starlight counterparts. Each one needs a Starlight Prediction together with the matching vanilla item. That covers terrain like Nightfall Grass Block, Nightfall Dirt, Twilight Sand and Voidstone, plus plants and foods like Abyssal Fruit and Lunar Berries.[6]

One of the Starlight Prediction conversions added by the pack.

The same pattern covers the coral families (Crystallum Coral, Golden Coral and Tentacles Coral, each with block and fan versions) and the ice and stone blocks like Eternal Ice, Glacite, Springstone and Thermal Springstone.[6]

A few of these recipes accept any item from a shared common tag, so they work with items from other mods too. eternal_starlight:swamp_silver_ingot takes any silver ingot, Oxidized Golem Steel Ingot takes any steel ingot, and Raw Aethersent takes any diamond gem. The Starlight crystal shards, clusters and blocks combine an amethyst item with a blue or red dye. Red gives the Red Starlight Crystal items and blue gives the Blue ones.[6]

Unverified The sources don't show how to obtain the Starlight Prediction item itself, so check in-game (for example in JEI) before you plan around these conversions. This site does hold All the Mods 10's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

Sawing Starlight logs

The pack adds sawing recipes in both Mekanism and Productive Trees for Starlight woods. They cover Lunar, Northland, Scarlet, Starlight Mangrove and Torreya logs, and each recipe gives the matching planks, for example Lunar Planks or Torreya Planks.[6]

The machines work differently. The Mekanism sawing recipe takes a log and outputs planks plus Sawdust. The Productive Trees sawmill recipe takes a log plus Sawdust and outputs planks.[6]

The Dragon Soul recipe

This is the biggest crossover. The pack-added recipe for Dragon Soul needs the Chain of Souls from Eternal Starlight. It also needs items from several other mods: Block of Piglich Hearts, Infused Dragon's Breath, Soul Gem, Dragon Familiar Spawn Egg, Inactive Dragon Egg and Socotra Dragon Sapling. It also takes a configurable bee from Productive Bees.[6]

The quest book points you at the Chain of Souls too. In the chapter_2_the_star chapter, the quest for the Glimmering Tablet comes before the Chain of Souls quest, so the intended order is Starlight Story first.[4]

Tool quests shared with other dimension mods

In the basic_tools quest chapter, Starlight gear sits alongside tools from other mods. Some quests accept any one of several items, so you can pick whichever dimension you reach first.[3]

Which All the Mods 10 quests use Eternal Starlight?

2 parts

Eternal Starlight shows up in the tools chapter (basic_tools) and in chapter_2_the_star. The tools chapter is mostly about handing in a tool from any of several mods, while chapter_2_the_star has a short chain built on the mod's own items.[3][4]

Chapter: basic_tools

The quests below all use Eternal Starlight gear. None of them lists a prerequisite quest, so you can tackle them in any order. Several accept a tool from another mod instead, so you don't have to commit to Eternal Starlight if you'd rather use something else.[3]

Tip: Quest 01EE2526B43B6502 is the only one here with several separate tasks. The Eternal Starlight pickaxe covers just the first, so you'll still need the Undergarden pickaxes for the rest.[3]

Chapter: chapter_2_the_star

This chapter has a clear order. It starts with a quest in "?", which asks you to get the Glimmering Tablet. Once that is done, a quest in "?" follows and asks for the Chain of Souls.[4]

Unverified The quest data doesn't give titles or descriptions for any of these quests, and it doesn't say how to obtain the Starlight Story book or the Chain of Souls. Check the in-game quest book for the details.

What changed in Eternal Starlight between versions?

5 parts

All the Mods 10 1.1 ships Eternal Starlight 0.1.16 for Minecraft 1.21.1 on NeoForge. The mod has been in the pack since All the Mods 10 0.41 or earlier. There are no pack changelog entries for this mod, so everything below comes from the mod's own changelogs, covering 0.1.10 to 0.1.16.[2][7][8][9][10][11][12][13]

0.1.16 (the version in this pack)

  • Added Nightfall Podzol, plus 3 new tracks and music discs.[7]
  • Scythes can trigger a sweep attack even when the attack indicator bar isn't full, and they now have higher sweep damage. They can no longer be enchanted with Sweeping Edge.[7]
  • Hammers can trigger critical attacks without a full attack indicator bar, but can no longer trigger sweep attacks.[7]
  • The Crystallized Moth was remodeled and is now tamable. Right click it with Lunaris Cactus Gel to get Shivering Gel.[7]
  • Thermal Springstone and Glacite weapons can no longer be enchanted with Fire Aspect, and blocking with the Glacite Shield no longer slows you down.[7]
  • Fixes: uncraftable Thermal Springstone building blocks, camera position adjustment not working on NeoForge, and The Gatekeeper always trying to teleport back after its structure is destroyed.[7]

0.1.15

  • Added the Voracious Arrow, Tooth of Hunger building blocks, Nightfall Dirt Path and Cake with Amaramber Candle.[8]
  • Stellagmite now melts when touched by lava and cools when touched by water. Atalphaite Block turns into Blazing Atalphaite Block when touched by lava.[8]
  • Eternal Starlight bosses can no longer ride other entities.[8]
  • Fixes include Oxidized Golem Steel Tiles not being mineable, the Ether Bucket's craft remainder, and stack sizes of Eternal Starlight signs and hanging signs.[8]

0.1.14

  • Added the Thioquartz trim material. Eternal Starlight trim materials and patterns now work alongside those from other mods.[9]
  • Ether damage no longer causes knockback, and the ether liquid problems were fixed.[9]
  • Fixed an item duplication bug and low performance caused by Abyssal Fire.[9]

0.1.13

  • Nerfed the Thirst Walker, the Velvetumoss and the Tangled. The Thirst Walker will sometimes drop its teeth if blocked by a shield.[10]
  • Added (Oxidized) Golem Steel Grate, Pillar and Bars. Oxidized Golem Steel blocks can now be scraped with an axe.[10]
  • Added more types of Portal Ruins and updated the Golem Forge structure.[10]
  • Fixed a crash when putting an Amaramber Candle on a cake, and two Gatekeeper bugs: boss music and bar showing on chunk load, and teleporting underground when returning to the portal structure.[10]

0.1.10 to 0.1.12

  • 0.1.12 added Conventional Tags compat and fixed The Gatekeeper always trying to teleport back to its original position.[11]
  • 0.1.11 added Icicles and a recipe to craft a torch using the Saltpeter Matchbox, whose durability was decreased. Gleechs now drop Gleech Eggs less often, and larval Gleechs no longer drop them.[12]
  • 0.1.10 added more plants, a config option to disable the portal shader, and default skins for The Gatekeeper. The Gatekeeper now returns to the portal after the fight, and the Abyssal Fruit was nerfed.[13]
