The Undergarden is a mod in All the Mods 10 8.3, where it is version 0.9.6. Deep underground, a forgotten land awaits. (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is The Undergarden?

2 parts

The Undergarden adds a dark, subterranean dimension far below the bedrock of the Overworld. It has 15 biomes, over 10 unique entities, a dungeon, and ores that give special properties to the tools and weapons you make from them. Plants here grow independent of light, and the land is plagued by the invasive Rotspawn.[1]

The pack includes version 0.9.6 for Minecraft 1.21.1. If you enjoy Nether-style exploration and want a whole extra dimension with its own gear sets, this is a great detour. The pack even gives it its own quest chapter.[2][3]

Getting in

  1. Craft a Catalyst. The quest "The Undergarden" quest walks you through it.[1][3]
  2. Build a frame in the shape and size of a Nether portal. Use Stone Bricks or Deepslate Bricks; the quest also lists Mossy Stone Bricks, and bricks from the Undergarden itself work too.[1][3]
  3. Right-click the inner bottom of the frame with the Catalyst to light the portal.[1]

Where it fits in the pack

The quest chapter treats the Undergarden as a self-contained progression of its own materials, each with matching tools and armor quests:[3]

Tip: Denizen Camps sit below Y Level 0, past the Dreadrock. Dreadrock needs a Forgotten Pickaxe to mine, which the quest says is the same tier as the Allthemodium Pickaxe. A rare chest drop, the Mysterious Mask, keeps Denizens neutral unless someone is hit or they are otherwise aggravated.[3]

How do you get started with The Undergarden?

5 parts

The Undergarden is a dark world deep below the Overworld's bedrock, full of strange creatures and the invasive Rotspawn. Here is what to make first, in order, to get in and survive.[1]

Step one: craft the Catalyst

Everything starts with the Catalyst. It's the key to the portal, and the first quest in the Undergarden chapter, "The Undergarden" quest, asks for it.[3]

Build a frame the same shape and size as a Nether Portal, but use Stone Bricks, Mossy Stone Bricks or Deepslate Bricks instead of Obsidian. Then right-click the inner bottom of the frame with the Catalyst to light it.[1][3]

Step two: get Cloggrum going

Cloggrum is the Iron of the Undergarden. You'll find it everywhere, and even some mobs drop it. It's used in a dozen different recipes, so smelt it as soon as you have some. The pack changed the ore smelting recipe so it accepts any Cloggrum ore.[3][4]

Cloggrum armor has stats a little worse than Iron, but it's cheap to get. The Cloggrum Boots also stop Scintling Goo from slowing you down.[3][5]

The pack adds its own recipe for the Cloggrum Shield, and it acts like a normal shield. Take one along, because the mobs here are dangerous.[3][4]

Step three: make a Slingshot

It has 4 kinds of ammo. Scintling Goo gives mobs the Gooey effect. Depthrocks are normal projectiles. Rotten Blisterberries blow up on impact. Gronglets deal no damage and just make noise.[3]

Step four: plan your way home

If you can't find your original portal, the Crumbling Catalyst activates a portal just like the normal Catalyst. Its quest comes after the Forgotten quest, and the recipe needs a Forgotten Nugget, so it's not something for your first trip.[3][4]

What comes next

Forgotten Ingots come from the Catacombs, either from chests or from killing the Forgotten Guardian. You'll also need a Smithing Template, which is found in Catacomb chests. With those you can upgrade Cloggrum tools into Forgotten tools.[3][4]

Tip: Dreadrock needs a Forgotten Pickaxe to mine, which is the same tier as an Allthemodium Pickaxe. Get one before you try to go below Y level 0 into the Depths.[3]

How does The Undergarden work?

5 parts

Here's the honest picture first: the sources I have for The Undergarden don't describe any machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or automation. This mod is about a dimension to explore, so its systems are the portal, the gear progression, the slingshot and the status effects. Those are what this section covers.[1][5]

Getting in: the Catalyst and the portal

The Undergarden is a dark world deep below the bedrock of the Overworld. To get in, you first craft a Catalyst. Here's the in-pack recipe:[1][4]

CatalystMod recipe

Recipe id: undergarden:catalyst

Next, build a frame in the shape of a Nether portal out of Stone Bricks or Deepslate Bricks. Bricks derived from the Undergarden work too. Then right-click the inner bottom of the frame with the Catalyst to activate the portal.[1]

Cloggrum and Forgotten gear

The pack has changed a lot of the Cloggrum recipes: the axe, hoe, bars, block, block-to-ingot, ingot-to-nugget, helmet, chestplate, boots and lantern all show up as changed by the pack. The Cloggrum Bucket is the exception and stays as the mod made it. The sources don't say exactly what changed, so check the recipe viewer for the real in-pack versions.[4]

Cloggrum BootsChanged by the pack

Crafting Shaped

4 × any cloggrum ingot

Recipe id: undergarden:cloggrum_boots

This recipe is changed by the pack. The boots also stop Scintling Goo from slowing you down while worn.

The next step up is Forgotten gear. You forge a Forgotten Ingot from a Forgotten Guardian's nuggets, then use it to upgrade Cloggrum tools and weapons. The smithing template slot takes a Cloggrum weapon or tool. There are 6 Forgotten tools to collect in total.[5]

  • Forgotten tools mine Undergarden blocks 1.5x as fast.[5]
  • Forgotten weapons deal 1.5x damage to non-boss Undergarden mobs.[5]
  • Utherium weapons deal 1.5x damage to Rotspawn.[5]

The Slingshot

The Slingshot fires pebbles, and items with the Slingshot ammo tooltip can be loaded into it. The advancements mention Scintling Goo Balls, Gronglets and Rotten Blisterberries as things you can shoot. These enchantments are specific to it:[5]

  • Longevity increases the Slingshot's max durability.[5]
  • Ricochet makes projectiles bounce off block surfaces.[5]
  • Self Sling makes the Slingshot fire you instead of ammo, and you have to be on the ground.[5]

Explosives from the gourd patch

The pack has recipes for the Blisterbomb and the Boomgourd, which builds on the Blisterbomb. Here are both in-pack recipes:[4]

Rotspawn, infection and status effects

The Undergarden is plagued by Rotspawn, monsters that come from a chaotic, mysterious realm. You can also contract the Utheric Infection, and the game warns you not to let it get out of control. A Shard Torch damages Rotspawn near it.[1][5]

  • Purity reduces the amount of Utheric Infection an entity has per second, and the amount removed scales with potion level.[5]
  • Virulence is similar to poison but does more damage at a slower rate. Virulent Resistance suppresses it and grants immunity.[5]
  • Brittleness makes the victim take more damage the higher their armor value is, scaling with potion level.[5]
  • Chilly slows the victim down and makes them visually shake.[5]
  • Featherweight gives a damaged victim increased knockback, scaling with potion level.[5]
  • Gooey constantly places Scintling Goo under the victim's feet.[5]

How do you progress through The Undergarden?

7 parts

The Undergarden follows a metal ladder, and as the pack's quest chapter reads right now, it walks you up it: Cloggrum, Froststeel, Forgotten, Rogdorium, then Utherium. Here's how each tier works and what you need for it.[3]

Getting in

The first quest, "The Undergarden" quest, says getting to the Undergarden is similar to getting to the Nether. It asks you to build a portal of the same shape and size as a Nether Portal, but with Stone Bricks, Mossy Stone Bricks or Deepslate Bricks instead of Obsidian. Once it is formed, you activate it by using the Catalyst on it.[3]

Tier 1: Cloggrum

"Cloggrum" quest introduces Cloggrum Ingot and calls it the Iron of the Undergarden. The quest says it is found everywhere, that some mobs even drop it, and that it is used in a dozen different recipes. The quest for "Cloggrum Tools" quest says they act just like Iron Tools, though the sword does more damage than an Iron Sword. For "Cloggrum Armor" quest, it says the stats are a little worse than Iron Armor, and that the boots help with going through Scintling Goo.[3]

The pack changes the Cloggrum tool, armor and block recipes, so trust the recipe display below rather than the mod's defaults. The pack also adds its own Cloggrum Shield recipe, which starts from a regular shield.[4]

Tier 2: Froststeel

Froststeel spawns in the frozen biomes, inside Shiverstone, which replaces Depthrock there. Shiverstone is slippery and slows you down a little. You might also find nuggets in Munchers' bellies. See "Froststeel" quest.[3]

The quest describes Froststeel Tools as similar to Iron Tools, with the tools slowing down whoever is hit by them, apart from the hoe. It describes the armor as slightly worse than Diamond, with big knockback resistance and a Speed debuff. In the pack's tool chapter, both the Froststeel and Cloggrum pickaxes are listed as Tier 3, and the Froststeel sword is listed at 6 attack damage against 7 for the Cloggrum sword.[3][6]

Tier 3: Forgotten

The quest says Forgotten Ingot has to be obtained through the Catacombs, either by looting the chests or by killing the Forgotten Guardian. It also says you need a Smithing Template, found in Catacomb chests. See "Forgotten" quest. Forgotten Tools are not crafted from scratch. You upgrade a Cloggrum tool at a smithing table with an ingot and the template.[3][4]

Smithing Transform

Recipe id: undergarden:forgotten_pickaxe_smithing

The quest calls these the best tools you can get. It says they come with Efficiency for Undergarden blocks, and that the sword and axe deal more damage to all Undergarden mobs except the Rot Beast and the Forgotten Guardian. The Forgotten Pickaxe is Tier 5 in the pack's tool chapter, above the Utherium pickaxe at Tier 4. The Forgotten sword is listed at 7 attack damage.[3][6]

"Ultimate Weapon!" quest asks for the Forgotten Battleaxe, which you get by upgrading a Cloggrum Battleaxe. The Cloggrum Weapons quest says that battleaxe is a rare drop from Forgottens. If you want the Ancient armor, "Ancient Armor" quest says it is what Forgottens wear and that there are no Ancient Boots.[3][4]

Tip: The Denizen camp quest says Dreadrock needs a Forgotten Pickaxe to be mined, and that this is the same tier as the Allthemodium Pickaxe. The camps sit in the Depths, below Y level 0, past the Dreadrock.[3]
Tip: Lost your original portal? The quest says the Crumbling Catalyst works just like the normal Catalyst in activating a portal, and that it takes 4 Depthrock, 4 Cloggrum Ingots and a Forgotten Nugget. See a quest in "The Undergarden".[3][4]

Tier 4: Rogdorium and the Infuser

"Rogdorium" quest sends you into the Depths below Y level 0. It says you need a Forgotten or Allthemodium Pickaxe, or the same tier, to mine Rogdorium Ore, which spawns anywhere in the Depths. A Forgotten or Allthemodium Axe mines Rogdoric Ancient Root. The quest says that is much more common but only gives a Rogdorium Nugget.[3]

Rogdorium unlocks three things. The Spear has the same damage as a Diamond Sword plus longer reach, and you can throw it like a Trident. The Mysterious Totem gives you Purity every couple of seconds while it's placed, which cleanses the Rot. The Infuser comes from Dreadrock, Rogdorium and a Utheric Cluster. Armor infused with Rogdorium protects you from the Rot disease.[3][4]

Tier 5: Utherium

The quest says Utheric Clusters and Shards can be dropped by multiple different mobs, especially the Rot Monsters, and that 9 Shards make 1 Cluster. You then use the Infuser to turn Rogdorium and a Utheric Cluster into a Utherium Crystal, as "Utheric" quest explains.[3]

Infuser Conversion (undergarden)

Recipe id: undergarden:utheric_cluster_to_utherium_crystal_infusing

The quest says Utherium Armor has the same stats as Netherite Armor, without needing a Smithing Template. It describes the tools as similar to Diamond Tools, with weapons more effective against Rot mobs. In the pack's tool chapter the Utherium sword is listed at 7.5 attack damage and the pickaxe is Tier 4. The pack changes the Utherium tool, armor and block recipes, so check the recipe display for the exact in-pack versions.[3][4][6]

Regalium: the side tier

Regalium Crystal is the Undergarden's Emerald equivalent. The quest says it can't be made into armor or tools, but you can trade it with Stoneborns for other items. The pack's building quest says Froststeel, Cloggrum and Regalium can be mined for, while Utheric and Forgotten metals you need to kill for.[3][7]

How does The Undergarden work with other mods?

3 parts

The Undergarden's wood types connect to other mods through recipes this pack adds or changes. The sources here cover sawing recipes and decorative furniture.[4]

Sawing Undergarden wood (Mekanism and Productive Trees)

The pack adds Undergarden sawing recipes in both Mekanism and Productive Trees. Each one turns Grongle, Smogstem or Wigglewood logs into their matching planks. Ancient Root has its own recipe that gives Ancient Root Planks.[4]

The Mekanism sawing recipes give you the planks and Sawdust. The Productive Trees sawmill recipes work the other way: they take Sawdust together with the log to make the planks.[4]

The pack changes the BiblioCraft wood-variant recipes so that Undergarden woods work as furniture materials. The sources show Grongle, Smogstem and Wigglewood versions of the display case, the seat and the seat backs, in black, blue and brown.[4]

These are built around the matching Undergarden slab, such as Grongle Slab, Smogstem Slab or Wigglewood Slab. Fancy and tall seat backs are crafted from the matching flat seat back instead of from scratch.[4]

Progression tie-in

The quest a quest in "The Undergarden" links Undergarden gear to another mod's tools. Dreadrock needs a Forgotten Pickaxe to mine, and the quest says that is the same tier as the Allthemodium Pickaxe.[3]

Which All the Mods 10 quests use The Undergarden?

3 parts

Currently, Undergarden quests are spread over four chapters: a dedicated "The Undergarden" chapter, plus entries in "Basic Armor", "Basic Tools" and "Building Tips". The dedicated chapter is where you learn the mod. The other three just reuse its gear as checkpoints in the pack's general progression.[3][6][7][8]

The Undergarden chapter

For now, you start with "The Undergarden" quest, which hands you the Catalyst. The portal has the same shape and size as a Nether Portal, but you build it from Stone Bricks, Mossy Stone Bricks or Deepslate Bricks instead of Obsidian. Use the Catalyst on the finished frame to light it.[3]

Most of the other quests unlock after a quest called "Welcome to the Undergarden!". The sources don't show which quest id that is, so I can't say for sure how it relates to the portal quest. Many of these are simple pick-up-and-learn quests with a short note about the item:[3]

Metal progression

The gear quests branch off the metal quests. "Cloggrum" quest (Cloggrum) and "Froststeel" quest (Froststeel) come first. "Regalium" quest covers the Regalium Crystal, which the quest describes as the Undergarden's Emerald: it can't become armor or tools, but you can trade it to Stoneborns.[3]

  1. Cloggrum: for now, "Cloggrum Armor" quest, "Cloggrum Tools" quest and "Cloggrum Weapons" quest all follow the Cloggrum quest. The weapons quest asks for the Cloggrum Battleaxe, which the quest says is a rare Forgotten drop, and the Cloggrum Shield.[3]
  2. Froststeel: at the moment, "Froststeel Tools" quest and "Froststeel Armor" quest follow the Froststeel quest.[3]
  3. Forgotten: "Forgotten" quest asks for the Forgotten Ingot, which comes from the Catacombs, and you also need a Smithing Template from Catacomb chests. After it you can do "Forgotten Tools" quest, "Ultimate Weapon!" quest (the Forgotten Battleaxe), a quest in "The Undergarden" (the Crumbling Catalyst, a way home if you lose your original portal) and "Ancient Armor" quest, which also needs the Forgotten quest done. Ancient Armor has no boots.[3]
  4. Rogdorium: for now, "Rogdorium" quest unlocks after Forgotten Tools. The quest says the Depths below Y 0 need a Forgotten Pickaxe or an Allthemodium Pickaxe, which is the pack's way of saying they are the same tier.[3]
  5. After Rogdorium come three quests, as the quest book stands for now: "Spear" quest for the Spear, a quest in "The Undergarden" for the Mysterious Totem, and a quest in "The Undergarden" for the Infuser.[3]
  6. Utheric: "Utheric" quest needs the Infuser quest done. It asks for the Utherium Crystal, which you make by combining Rogdorium and a Utheric Cluster in the Infuser. It then opens "Utherium Armor" quest and "Utheric Tools" quest.[3]
Tip: The Infuser quest says that right now there aren't many Infuser recipes. It also says that armor infused with Rogdorium protects you from the Rot disease, so check it before you go hunting Rot mobs.[3]

Other chapters

"Basic Armor" has Undergarden armor sets for Cloggrum ("Cloggrum Armor" quest), Froststeel ("Froststeel Armor" quest) and Utherium ("Utherium Armor" quest). It also has single-ingot quests for "Cloggrum" quest, "Froststeel" quest, "Regalium" quest, "Forgotten" quest and "Utherium" quest.[8]

"Basic Tools" accepts Undergarden gear alongside other mods' equivalents, and you only need one listed item per quest. For pickaxes, the Tier 3 quest (a quest in "Basic Tools") takes a Froststeel or Cloggrum pickaxe, the Tier 4 quest (a quest in "Basic Tools") takes a Utherium pickaxe, and the Tier 5 quest (a quest in "Basic Tools") takes a Forgotten pickaxe.[6]

For swords, the 6 attack damage quest (a quest in "Basic Tools") takes a Froststeel sword, the 7 attack damage quest (a quest in "Basic Tools") takes a Forgotten or Cloggrum sword, and the 7.5 attack damage quest (a quest in "Basic Tools") takes a Utherium sword.[6]

Finally, "Building Tips" has "Undergarden Metals" quest, which accepts a block of any of these metals: Block of Cloggrum, Block of Regalium, Block of Froststeel, Block of Forgotten Metal or Block of Utherium. Its note says Froststeel, Cloggrum and Regalium are mined, while Utheric and Forgotten materials come from kills.[7]
