What is Oritech?

2 parts

Oritech is a technology mod built around animated machines, several ore processing chains, and a lot of ways to generate and move power, items and fluids. This pack ships Oritech 1.2.12.[1][2]

Most machines are animated multiblocks, and you upgrade them with addon blocks. In this pack, every machine needs an original machine block plus machine cores to build it. You right-click the machine with cores to build it up. The cores don't change a machine's speed or efficiency directly, only how many modifiers it can take. Start with the Primitive Machine Core and work up from there.[1][3][4]

Where it fits in the pack

Oritech is part of the ATM Star path. The "Oritech" quest quest asks for a Magnetic Coil, and the quest text says some Oritech machines are reused in other recipes in the pack, such as Pokeballs and even the Zygarde Cube.[3]

The ATM Star path also asks you to make the Manhattan Module in the "Manhattan Module" quest quest. It needs Plutonium Pellet and Heisenberg Compensator, and you build the compensator with the Atomic Forge. That's a long chain, so it gets its own coverage later in the guide.[3]

There's also a side quest for Solid Biofuel, which you make in an Assembler. The biomass can come from Oritech, from Create, or you can use Mekanism's biofuel instead. If you go the Oritech route, you'll need a Fragment Forge or a Pulverizer.[3]

What you'll be building

  • Processing: the Pulverizer for grinding (the Fragment Forge is a better version that improves yield on all pulverisation recipes), the Centrifuge, the Foundry for alloys, and the Assembler, which is more than a crafter.[4]
  • Power: generators that burn furnace fuel, liquid fuel, lava or biomass, plus portable and large energy storage.[4]
  • Logistics: energy, fluid and item pipes, and drone ports for moving items over long distances.[1][4]
  • Late-game tools: Enderic lasers, which can break blocks, and the nuclear reactor controller.[1][4]
Tip: Oritech is designed so most things have more than one way to be made, and there is only one pipe tier for each pipe type. You usually won't get stuck waiting on one rare item.[1]

How do you get started with Oritech?

3 parts

Oritech is a machine mod, and every machine in it is a multiblock: you need an original machine block plus machine cores to build it. This pack also uses some Oritech machines for other recipes, such as Pokeballs and the Zygarde Cube, so it's worth setting up early.[3]

Your first steps, in order

  1. Make Magnetic Coil and Motor first. The quest chapter calls them the basic building components used to make most machines ("Basic Building Components" quest). Both are assembler recipes in the pack's recipe list.[4][5]
  2. Get an Primitive Machine Core. All machines use cores, and you right-click a machine with a core to build it. Cores don't change speed or efficiency directly, only the number of modifiers a machine can hold. The quest is "Machine Cores" quest.[4]
  3. Set up power with the Basic Generator, which runs on furnace fuel. Then store it with the Portable Energy Storage or Large Energy Storage, and move it with the Energy Pipe.[4]
  4. Build the Pulverizer and the Centrifuge. The quest calls the centrifuge an important machine for your future endeavours.[4]

Ore processing

The quest chapter says that to process ores with Oritech you need a Centrifuge with a Fluid Addon plus a Pulverizer or a Fragment Forge. The Fragment Forge is the upgrade, since it improves yield on all pulverisation recipes.[4]

With clumps in hand, the fluid addon lets the centrifuge take Sulfuric Acid, which gives you gems. Water also works, but for a lower yield. The quest warns that some recipes that output dusts or nuggets are currently broken.[4]

Machine cores and the pack's recipes

The core quests continue with Basic Machine Core and then Improved Machine Core. The Improved Machine Core recipe is one the pack added itself, not the mod default.[4][5]

The centrifuge is also where you get Carbon Fibre Strands, which this recipe makes use of.[5]

How does Oritech work?

8 parts

Oritech machines are mostly animated multiblocks, and you upgrade them by attaching addon blocks. The mod has item, fluid and energy pipes to move things around. This pack also rebalances a lot of Oritech's numbers, so the values below are the pack's, not the mod defaults.[1][6]

Addons and machine cores

Addons are how you customize a machine. The pack has the Acceptor Addon, Capacitor Addon, Efficiency Addon, Burst Addon, Hunter Addon and Crop Filter Addon. The Power Bank Addon Extender is built from a Capacitor Addon plus a Machine Addon Extender. An ultimate machine core is what lets you add excessive addons.[5][7]

Power generation

The pack buffs every generator, and the solar generator gets the biggest jump. These are the pack's values from the common config.[6]

For storage, the pack sets storageBlocks.smallEnergyStorage.energyCapacity to 5,000,000 (mod default 1,000,000) and storageBlocks.largeEnergyStorage.energyCapacity to 60,000,000 (mod default 20,000,000).[6]

What your machines cost to run

The pack doubles most processing machine energy settings, and the cooler goes up fourfold. Plan your power around these numbers.[6]

Pipes, pumps and logistics

Oritech has item, fluid and energy pipes, and there is only one tier of each. Pipe blocks only get block entities where they are needed, for example where they connect to machines. All networks are cached, and network updates are only sent when needed, so big pipe setups stay light. For long-distance item transport, the mod also offers drones.[1]

Here are the in-pack recipes for the Fluid Pipe, the Pump and the Energy Transmission Pole. The pack changed the recipes for the fluid pipe and the pump from the mod's versions.[5]

The reactor

The nuclear reactor is a multiblock built from parts like the Reactor Wall and the Reactor Coolant Absorber Port. The pack heavily retunes it for much more power, and it also makes the reactor smaller and cools it faster.[5][6][7]

Watch out: The pack halves the maximum reactor size to 32, so don't plan a 64-sized build from the mod's defaults.[6]

Arcane and tainted refinery mechanics

The arcane stabilizer, also called the catalyst, is built around souls. arcane.catalystBaseSouls sets its base soul capacity to 50, and arcane.catalystRFPerSoul sets 20 RF/t per soul capacity level increase. The pack leaves the arcane cost settings at the mod defaults, including arcane.enchanterCostMultiplier at 5.[6][7]

The recipe viewer describes how a tainted refinery is created: you explode a refinery near a soul-charged catalyst. Nearby arcane blocks increase energy efficiency, and sculk blocks act as a yield bonus by increasing the output multiplier.[7]

Other systems

How do you progress through Oritech?

5 parts

Oritech is a machine mod where, per the pack's quest book, all machines are multiblocks that need an original machine block plus Machine Cores to build them. In this pack the Oritech quest chapter branches out from Oritech Beginnings, and the tiers below follow those quests and the in-pack recipes.[3][4]

Tier 1: Cores, coils and power

Start with "Machine Cores" quest. You right-click a machine with machine cores to build it. Cores don't change speed or efficiency directly, only the number of modifiers a machine can hold. The first one is the Primitive Machine Core.[4]

Next, "Basic Building Components" quest asks for the Magnetic Coil and the Motor. The quest describes them as the components used to make most machines.[4]

The quest chapter has four generator quests, each following Oritech Beginnings, and each quest describes its generator by fuel:[4]

The logistics quests all follow directly after Oritech Beginnings. The energy quest asks you to smoothly transfer 10k rf/t using Energy Pipe, Framed Energy Pipe or Energy Pipe Duct. Fluids and items have their own pipe quests, and the item quest includes an Item Filter. The Pipe Booster quest says to use power with it to boost the extraction speed of Oritech pipes.[4]

The Drone Port quest says drone ports are fairly fast but need a minimum of 50 blocks distance to work. It tells you to place two of them, sneak right-click a Target Designator on one to store its location, then put the designator in the UI of the second.[4]

Tier 2: Ore processing

The Pulverizer and the Centrifuge quests both follow Oritech Beginnings directly. The Centrifuge quest calls it an important machine for your future endeavours, and several later quests (Enderic Compound, the Fluid Addon, Carbon Fibre Strands) come after it.[4]

The Fragment Forge quest calls it a better pulverizer that improves yield on all pulverisation recipes. A quest in the Master Ball chapter says it needs 3 Machine Casings and that you right-click it to build it.[4][8]

For ore processing in "Ore Processing" quest, you need a Centrifuge with a Fluid Addon plus a Pulverizer or Fragment Forge. Clumps put through a fluid-addon Centrifuge with Sulfuric Acid give gems. Water works too, but with a lower yield. The quest also warns that some recipes that output dusts or nuggets are currently broken.[4][5]

Tier 3: Better cores and addons

In the quest book each core quest follows the previous one: Basic, Improved, Advanced, then Elite and Ultra later on. The Basic Machine Core comes first, followed by a quest in "Oritech" for the Improved Machine Core. The pack adds its own recipe for the Improved core.[4][5]

Once you have the Assembler and Foundry, Enderic Laser unlocks. Enderic lasers can transfer energy, transform materials, break blocks and speed up amethyst growth. The Hunter Addon lets the laser target mobs.[4]

Lasers also feed two later materials. Charging amethyst gives you Fluxite. For Plutonium Dust, fragment Raw Uranium in the Fragment Forge for Small Plutonium Dust, or fire the laser at an Uranite Crystal. The pack changes the Powah and AE2 charger routes for these as well.[4][5]

Tier 5: Atomic Forge and endgame

In the quest book, the Flux Gate quest follows the Fluxite and Processing Unit quests. The Atomic Forge quest then follows the Duratium, Enderic Compound and Flux Gate quests.[4]

After the Atomic Forge, the quest book continues in a chain:[4]

  1. The Silicon Wafer quest follows the Atomic Forge quest.[4]
  2. The Advanced Computing Engine quest follows the wafer.[4]
  3. The Super AI Chip quest follows the computing engine.[4]

How does Oritech work with other mods?

4 parts

Oritech plugs into the rest of this pack mostly through recipes. A lot of its machine recipes have been changed by the pack so they hand you the shared alltheores items, and other mods' machines can produce Oritech materials too. The pack also adds a few recipes that pull Oritech items into other mods' progression.[5]

This fits how Oritech is designed: there are usually several ways to get the same thing, and its own page uses plastic (farming or oil processing) as the example. In this pack you can see that with plastic, because a cooler recipe converts PneumaticCraft's plastic into Oritech's.[1][5]

Which All the Mons quests use Oritech?

5 parts

Oritech has its own big quest chapter, called Oritech, and it also shows up as optional task choices in a few other chapters. Almost everything in the Oritech chapter hangs off a starting quest called Oritech Beginnings, so that's where you begin.[4]

The Oritech chapter: basics

Straight after the starting quest you get a wide set of quests that you can do in any order. Power comes first: a quest in "Oritech" asks for the Basic Generator, a quest in "Oritech" for the Bio Generator, a quest in "Oritech" for the Lava Generator and a quest in "Oritech" for the Fuel Generator. Then "Storing Energy" quest wants both the Portable Energy Storage and the Large Energy Storage.[4]

Logistics is covered by "Transfering Energy" quest (energy pipes, with the quest blurb mentioning 10k rf/t), "Transporting liquids" quest (fluid pipes and the Portable Tank), "Transporting items" quest (item pipes and the Item Filter) and a quest in "Oritech" (the Pipe Booster). a quest in "Oritech" asks for the Drone Port; its text says drone ports need a minimum of 50 blocks of distance.[4]

Machine cores and crafting

"Machine Cores" quest starts the core line with the Primitive Machine Core. It then runs in a strict chain: a quest in "Oritech", a quest in "Oritech", a quest in "Oritech", a quest in "Oritech" and finally a quest in "Oritech", which asks for the Ultra Machine Core.[4]

"Basic Building Components" quest asks for the Magnetic Coil and Motor. It unlocks "Putting things together" quest (the Assembler), which in turn leads to a quest in "Oritech" (the Processing Unit) and a quest in "Oritech" (the Plutonium Pellet).[4]

Ores, addons and lasers

Endgame path

a quest in "Oritech" (Duratium Ingot) comes after the Foundry quest. a quest in "Oritech" (Flux Gate) needs the Fluxite and Processing Unit quests. a quest in "Oritech" (Atomic Forge) needs the Duratium, Enderic Compound and Flux Gate quests, and its text says it can only be powered by Enderic Lasers.[4]

After that it's a straight line: a quest in "Oritech" (Silicon Wafer), a quest in "Oritech" (Advanced Computing Engine), a quest in "Oritech" (Super AI Chip), a quest in "Oritech" (Heisenberg Compensator) and finally a quest in "Oritech" for the Manhattan Module. That last one also needs the Plutonium Pellet quest.[4]

Two quests sit a bit apart: a quest in "Oritech" for the Refinery and Refinery Chamber Module (after a quest called Refining Ores), and a quest in "Oritech" for the Nuclear Reactor Controller.[4]

Oritech in other chapters

Which Oritech config options matter?

5 parts

Oritech has a huge config, but this pack only changes a handful of values. Almost everything it touches is about power: the reactor, the generators, energy storage and how much your machines draw. Everything below is the pack's value, with the mod default next to it so you can see what moved.[6]

Reactor

The reactor got the biggest rework. It is smaller, but it makes far more power and cools faster.[6]

Watch out: reactor.safeMode is false in this pack, so an overheated reactor explodes instead of entering a cooldown period.[6]

Generators

Every generator except the steam engine was changed. The solar generator got the biggest boost: machineSettings.generators.solarGeneratorData.energyPerTick is 1,600 (mod default 32).[6]

  • Basic generator: energy per tick is 64 (mod default 32).[6]
  • Bio and lava generators: energy per tick is 256 (mod default 64), capacity is 400,000 (mod default 100,000), and max extraction is 2,048 (mod default 512).[6]
  • Fuel generator: energy per tick is 2,048 (mod default 256), capacity is 1,000,000 (mod default 250,000), and max extraction is 16,000 (mod default 2,048).[6]
  • Solar generator: capacity is 1,000,000 (mod default 100,000) and max extraction is 25,600 (mod default 256).[6]

Energy storage

The storage blocks hold much more. storageBlocks.smallEnergyStorage.energyCapacity is 5,000,000 (mod default 1,000,000) and storageBlocks.largeEnergyStorage.energyCapacity is 60,000,000 (mod default 20,000,000). Their insertion and extraction limits are unchanged.[6]

Machine power draw

Machines are hungrier here, and most are set to roughly double or more their default draw. The numbers below are energy per tick.[6]

  • Furnace and pulverizer: 64 (mod default 32).[6]
  • Centrifuge and refinery: 128 (mod default 64).[6]
  • Cooler: 128 (mod default 32).[6]
  • Foundry: 256 (mod default 128).[6]
  • Fragment forge: 512 (mod default 256).[6]
  • Laser arm: 512 (mod default 128), with max energy insertion of 2,048 (mod default 1,024).[6]
  • Fertilizer: 16 per move and 256 per work step (mod defaults 8 and 128). Placer: 16 per move and 128 per work step (mod defaults 8 and 64).[6]

Left at the mod default

Pipes, cables, the particle accelerator, addons and the startup-file gear are all at their mod defaults. A few settings worth knowing about:[6][11]

What changed in Oritech between versions?

4 parts

All the Mons 1.3.0 ships Oritech 1.2.12, and the mod has been in the pack since 0.3.0-beta or earlier. Below are the notable changes from the mod's own changelogs, from the first release candidates up to 1.2.10.[2][13]

Unverified No pack changelog entries for Oritech were available in the sources here, so whether the pack changes any value or recipe mentioned below is unverified.

1.0.0 release candidates

  • Ziplining arrived in rc2: you can zipline along power pole cables with a wrench. Color changes on machines also got animations.[14]
  • In rc3, ziplining sounds and animations became visible to other players on multiplayer servers. The default beam size on particle accelerators was changed, and the uranium patch can now be reused by datapack makers.[15]

1.0.0 and 1.0.1

  • 1.0.0 improved compatibility with most chunk protection mods for the enderic laser, railgun and nuke. It also fixed addons attaching to the wrong machine when placed too close together.[16]
  • 1.0.1 improved the crop filter addon's compatibility with most modded crops and moved the augment hotkey to its own separate hotkey. It also fixed reactor ports (fuel and coolant) not dropping their contents when broken.[17]

1.1.0

  • Added the Hangar Door block, and the industrial door can now be colored.[18]
  • Block api lookup caches were added, which improves the performance of pipes and generators.[18]
  • Ore amounts in boulders were slightly reduced, and the mod's changelog says the pulverizer recipe became cheaper by using iron instead of steel.[18]
  • Fixes included the mob spawner producing armed or equipped mob variants, the pump not always draining complex fluid bodies, and jetpacks not loading with turbofuel.[18]

1.2.6 to 1.2.10

  • 1.2.6 improved large particle accelerator performance and fixed augments not refreshing right after a respawn.[19]
  • 1.2.7 fixed enderic laser block destruction in adventure mode and added missing recipe input count sorting to the tainted refinery.[20]
  • 1.2.8 fixed the fluid handler drain implementation on NeoForge, which should resolve some fluid interaction issues, and improved how fluid pipes handle empty targets.[21]
  • 1.2.9 added a warning slider to the reactor UI and improved the auto-feeder augment: it now ignores bad food and picks bad food in a better order. It also fixed machine cores not handling explosions correctly and some fluid extraction issues on NeoForge.[22]
  • 1.2.10 fixed world generation being broken with the latest architectury version.[13]
