What is Industrial Foregoing?

4 parts

Industrial Foregoing is the pack's big automation tech mod. It has machines for mob and animal farming, plant farming, power generation, enchantment sorting and creation, big item and fluid storage and transport, and a suite of Infinity tools. This pack ships version 1.21-3.6.39.[1][2]

Who it is for

If you want to stop doing chores by hand, this is your mod. The pack's quest book calls it a tech mod with many machines and many different uses, and it starts you off by crafting a Pity Machine Frame in the quest "Industrial Foregoing" quest.[3]

Getting started: Plastic

Everything runs on Plastic, and the in-game guide says to master it. You get there by extracting latex from logs with a Fluid Extractor. A Latex Processing Unit then turns 750 mB of latex and 500 mB of water into 1 Dry Rubber. Smelt the rubber and you get Plastic.[3][4][5]

Tip: The quest book says the best logs for the Fluid Extractor are Acacia or Mangrove. Power is optional, but it makes the machine run faster.[3][6]

Where it fits in progression

Once you have Plastic, the quest chain opens up in several directions: mob processing with the Mob Slaughter Factory, block automation, animal farming, and power from the Bioreactor and Biofuel Generator. The "Sewer" quest and "Bio Power" quest quests are good examples. The Dissolution Chamber is used to craft the more advanced machines.[3]

The ATM Star path

Industrial Foregoing is part of the ATM Star chapter. Its entry quest, "Industrial Foregoing" quest, asks for Dry Rubber. Two quests follow it: "Wither Builder" quest and "Explosive Mycelial Generator" quest.[7]

The Wither Builder is expensive. It needs a Supreme Machine Frame, which needs Ether Gas. You get Ether Gas by running a Laser Drill on a Wither, and the quest suggests a Stasis Chamber to make that easier. The Explosive Mycelial Generator is the other ATM Star target.[7]

How do you get started with Industrial Foregoing?

3 parts

Industrial Foregoing (IF for short) is a tech mod with a huge list of machines. The in-game guide is clear about where to begin: getting plastic is one of the most important things in the mod, so master it first. The pack's questline follows the same path, starting with "Industrial Foregoing" quest.[3][4]

The plastic path, in order

  1. Craft a Pity Machine Frame. The first quest asks for it as your starting point.[3]
  2. Make a Fluid Extractor and place it in front of a log. It pulls Latex out of the wood, and it works faster if you give it power. The quest says Acacia or Mangrove are the best logs to use, and JEI shows the Latex amounts for each log.[3][6]
  3. Optional: build a Pitiful Generator for power. It makes a small amount of FE from burnable fuels like coal.[3][8]
  4. Build a Latex Processing Unit. It turns 750 mB of Latex and 500 mB of Water into 1 Dry Rubber.[3][5]
  5. Smelt the rubber to get Plastic, the main resource of Industrial Foregoing. Once you have it, the rest of the questline opens up.[3]

Unverified The recipes for the Pity Machine Frame, Fluid Extractor, Latex Processing Unit and Pitiful Generator were not in the material I had, so check JEI for how to craft them. This site does hold All the Mons's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

Tip: The pack adds its own way to get Dry Rubber: a crafting recipe that uses rubber essence. If you already have that essence, it can save you some Latex work.[9]

Once you have plastic

Your next stop is the Dissolution Chamber. The quest calls it the crafting table for more advanced machines: you put a certain fluid in it along with the items for the thing you are making. It takes up to 8 items and 1 fluid, and its recipes are shapeless, so slot order doesn't matter. The pack changed its crafting recipe, so use this one rather than any default you may remember.[3][9][10]

Keep your Latex flowing, because the pack's Dissolution Chamber recipes for the Range, Speed, Efficiency and Processing addons all use it. The Simple Machine Frame quest, the pack's Tier 2 step, unlocks after the Dissolution Chamber.[3][9]

Good things to build next

  • Block Placer and Block Breaker automate placing and breaking blocks. The quest says this is especially useful when automating Latex.[3]
  • Bioreactor and Biofuel Generator are the better power setup. The Bioreactor makes Biofuel from Water plus a mix of materials, and the more types you feed it, the more efficient it is.[3][11]
  • Mob Slaughter Factory turns mobs in its working area into Pink Slime and Liquid Meat. Passive mobs give more Pink Slime and hostile mobs give more Meat. It supports Range Addons.[3]
  • Conveyor Belt moves items, entities and fluids, and upgrades let it interact with the world.[3][12]

How does Industrial Foregoing work?

7 parts

Industrial Foregoing is built around automating most of Minecraft's functions. It covers mob and animal farming, plant farming, Infinity tools, item and fluid transport, power generation, and enchantment handling. This section explains how those systems fit together.[1]

Where everything starts: latex and plastic

The in-game guide calls getting plastic one of the most important things in the mod, so master it early. The chain starts with the Fluid Extractor, which pulls latex out of a log placed in front of it. You can point several extractors at the same log. The machine consumes the log, then swaps it for the stripped variant, then consumes that too until it disappears. Each log type gives a different amount of latex, and the guide says to check JEI for the rates. Power is optional, but it makes the extractor work faster.[1][4][6]

Next, the Latex Processing Unit turns latex and water into rubber. The guide gives its cost as 750mb of Latex and 500mb of Water per result.[1][5]

Unverified The in-game guide names the Latex Processing Unit's output as Dry Rubber in one entry and Tiny Dry Rubber in another, so check the recipe viewer for the exact output in this pack. This site does hold All the Mons's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

The recipes in the pack's recipe dump that make Industrial Foregoing items are marked as changed by the pack. Don't rely on recipes from other guides. The recipe blocks on this page show the exact in-pack versions.[9]

Power, addons and the pack's tuned numbers

Machines run on stored power and spend it per operation. The guide mixes RF and FE, but the pack's config files use FE. Addons modify machines, and not every machine accepts every addon type. A tooltip tells you when a machine accepts range addons. Here is what each addon does:[13][14][15]

  • Range: each tier increases the working area of machines that have one by 1.[13]
  • Speed: increases how much the progress bar advances each tick, +1 at tier 1 and +2 at tier 2.[13]
  • Efficiency: reduces the ticks needed per operation, by 10% at tier 1 and 20% at tier 2.[13]
  • Processing: raises the number of operations done when a machine finishes, +1 at tier 1 and +2 at tier 2.[13]

Most husbandry and agriculture machines in the pack keep the usual 10,000 FE buffer. The Animal Baby Separator, Animal Feeder and Animal Rancher also keep a 100-tick cooldown and 400 FE per operation. The pack changes several other values, though. The Mob Crusher's cooldown is MachineAgricultureHusbandryConfig.MobCrusherConfig.maxProgress = 100 ticks, where the file comment lists a default of 50. Its power use is 50, where the comment lists 40, and its essence tank holds 32,000 mb.[15]

The Mob Duplicator is much more demanding in this pack. It has a 50,000 FE buffer, uses 5,000 FE per operation, and has a 62-tick cooldown. Spawning costs Mob health multiplied by MachineAgricultureHusbandryConfig.MobDuplicatorConfig.essenceNeeded, which is 12 here. Exact copy is off. The Plant Gatherer and Plant Sower both run on a 40-tick cooldown. The Plant Fertilizer runs on 50 ticks and uses 1,000 FE per operation.[15][16]

Farming and husbandry chains

The Animal Feeder breeds animals when it is supplied with the animal's feeding item. In this pack it stops working once there are 35 animals in its area. The Animal Baby Separator teleports baby animals to the back of the machine, and you choose which mob types it moves in the GUI. The Animal Rancher shears sheep and milks cows.[15][17][18][19]

The Mob Crusher kills mobs as a player would, with drops taken directly from the loot pool, and it produces Essence, the fluid form of experience. Its alternate mode produces no essence and instead gives drops with random levels of fortune. The Mob Slaughter Factory is different. It turns mobs into Liquid Meat and Pink Slime with no drops or experience, and passive mobs give more pink slime.[14][20][21][22]

The Sewer collects Sewage from animals and turns experience into essence. The Sewage Composter then turns Sewage into Fertilizer, which works like bonemeal.[23][24][25]

For crops, the Plant Sower has 9 colour-coded internal slots. They match 9 segments of its working area, and each slot's seeds are only planted in its own segment. The Plant Gatherer chops trees and harvests crops, making a little Sludge with each operation. If it starts on a tree, it keeps harvesting every log and leaf connected to the base log. It breaks crops rather than right-click harvesting them, but with small amounts of ether supplied it replants automatically. The Hydroponic Bed uses power and water, or lava for nether crops, to speed up growth. Adding very small amounts of Ether Gas speeds it up much more and also replants.[26][27][28][29]

Watch out: The Plant Fertilizer keeps applying bonemeal to the same crop until it can no longer accept any. It can therefore get stuck on plants that always accept bonemeal, such as Sunflowers, or on plants that never reach their final growth state.[30]

Biofuel power

The Bioreactor turns water plus seeds, saplings, dyes and even skulls into Biofuel. The more different item types you feed it, the more biofuel each item makes. One item type gives 80mb. Four different types give 110mb each, for 440mb in total.[11][31]

The Biofuel Generator burns that biofuel for 160RF/t according to the in-game guide, and it stops consuming fuel when its buffer is full. The sources do not show whether the pack changes this generator's output, so treat that figure as the guide's description.[32]

Conveyors and transporters

Conveyors move items, entities and fluids. Items and entities can go up and down, but fluids can only move horizontally. Right-click a conveyor with dye to colour it. Glowstone makes them move things very fast, and plastic stops items from being picked up while they sit on the belt.[12]

Upgrades let conveyors interact with the world. Most can be filtered in the GUI, and entity filters use a Mob Imprisonment Tool holding the entity.[33]

The Item, Fluid and World Transporters move items or fluids between inventories one block away, or between inventories and the world. You need a transporter on both the extraction side and the insertion side. Several transporter types can share one block, and you change modes by right-clicking the middle area. Filters support blacklist and whitelist, and regulator mode lets an insertion transporter cap how much an inventory holds. Speed and Efficiency addons go on the outer ring. Sneak and right-click a transporter to remove it or its upgrades.[34][35][36]

Crafting and enchanting machines

The Dissolution Chamber crafts from up to 8 items and/or 1 fluid, and it can output items and/or fluids. Recipes are shapeless, and once a recipe is present the machine locks all slots so nothing more can be inserted.[10]

Essence also powers the enchantment machines. The Enchantment Applicator works like an anvil but pays in Essence, and it can draw from the tank on top if the cost is too big. The Enchantment Extractor either moves enchantments from items into books or turns them into Essence with no book needed. The Enchantment Factory enchants an item at level 30 when given large amounts of Essence. The Enchantment Sorter separates enchanted items from unenchanted ones.[14][37][38][39][40]

Other machines worth knowing

  • Block Breaker breaks the block in front of it into its internal inventory at 1000RF per operation, and Block Placer places blocks from its internal container at 1000RF.[41][42]
  • Dye Mixer mixes primal dyes into other colours and uses 30RF/t. White, for example, needs 1 each of Red, Green and Blue.[43]
  • Fermentation Station ferments raw ore meat once it reaches the configured level. It can seal at half-full or at 1 bucket.[14][44]
  • The Laser Drill charges the first Ore Laser Base and Fluid Laser Base it finds in its working area. Ore output depends on the biome and the configured depth, and the guide says to check JEI for values.[45][46][47]

How do you progress through Industrial Foregoing?

6 parts

Industrial Foregoing in this pack is laid out as a tier ladder, and the quest book follows it. The first quest, "Industrial Foregoing" quest, is labelled Tier 1 and asks you to craft a Pity Machine Frame. Your Simple Machine Frame is Tier 2 and your Advanced Machine Frame is Tier 3. A lot of the machine recipes here are changed by the pack, so follow the recipes below rather than what you remember from other packs.[3][9]

Tier 1: Pity Machine Frame and Plastic

Plastic is the gate for almost everything else. The in-game guide calls getting plastic one of the most important things in the mod, and the quests agree: nearly every other machine quest unlocks after the Plastic quest. This is the route the quests lay out:[3][4]

  1. Craft a Pity Machine Frame to start the chapter. For early power, the Pitiful Generator burns fuels like coal.[3]
  2. Place a Fluid Extractor on logs to get Latex. It runs faster with power, and the quest says Acacia or Mangrove logs are the best.[3][6]
  3. Feed Latex into a Latex Processing Unit. It uses 750 mB of Latex and 500 mB of Water to make 1 Dry Rubber.[3][5]
  4. Smelt the rubber to get Plastic.[3]

The pack also adds a shortcut. You can craft Dry Rubber straight from Mystical Agriculture rubber essence.[9]

Once you have Plastic, a whole set of quests opens up. The first-tier machines in this pack are crafted with a Pity Machine Frame plus Plastic. That covers the Animal Rancher, the Bioreactor and the Block Breaker. Other quests that unlock here include the Mob Slaughter Factory, the Sewer, the Plant Gatherer and the Conveyor Belt.[3][9]

The Simple Machine Frame unlocks the Hydroponic Bed, the Mob Detector, the Marine Fisher and the Fermentation Station. It also unlocks the first mycelial generators, such as the Furnace Mycelial Generator and the Culinary Mycelial Generator.[3]

Addons

Addon recipes are also Dissolution Chamber crafts that use Latex, and the addon quest opens after the Dissolution Chamber quest. Range addons come in tiers 0 through 11, and each tier adds 1 to the range of machines that have a working area. Speed, efficiency and processing addons come in tiers 1 and 2.[3][9][13]

  • Speed: tier 1 gives +1 and tier 2 gives +2 to how far the progress bar advances each tick.[13]
  • Efficiency: tier 1 gives -10% and tier 2 gives -20% on the ticks an operation needs.[13]
  • Processing: tier 1 gives +1 operation and tier 2 gives +2 operations when a machine finishes processing.[13]

Tier 3: Advanced Machine Frame

The Advanced Machine Frame is Tier 3. Its quest needs the Simple Machine Frame and the Pink Slime and Liquid Meat quest, so you have to build a Mob Slaughter Factory first. The recipe in this pack uses Pink Slime, a Simple Machine Frame and netherite scrap.[3][9][22]

The Infinity Charger quest comes after Pink Slime and Liquid Meat, and the Infinity Tools quest follows it. In this pack, the tools are crafted in the Dissolution Chamber and each needs a tier 11 range addon. All of them except the Infinity Nuke also use Pink Slime. The Nuke uses Ether Gas instead. The quest lists 7 tool tiers, from Poor up to Artifact, and says Biofuel makes the tools more efficient.[3][9]

Supreme Machine Frame and the Mycelial Reactor

The end of the ladder is the Supreme Machine Frame. In this pack it is crafted from an Advanced Machine Frame, Ether Gas and netherite. Ether Gas Bucket comes from a Fluid Laser Base placed on top of a Wither.[9][48]

How does Industrial Foregoing work with other mods?

7 parts

Industrial Foregoing doesn't live on its own in this pack. A lot of its machines and fluids are wired into other mods through recipes the pack added or changed. Here's where those connections show up.[9]

Laser Drill and AllTheOres

The pack changed the Laser Drill recipes so that each colored lens points at an ore or raw material from AllTheOres. Swap the lens to change what you mine.[9]

Dissolution Chamber recipes from other mods

The Dissolution Chamber is the pack's go-to crafter for some Allthemodium and addon items. The pack added recipes for the Unobtainium - Vibranium Alloy in both ingot and block form.[9]

Which All the Mons quests use Industrial Foregoing?

6 parts

Industrial Foregoing shows up in two quest chapters in this pack: its own "Industrial Foregoing" chapter, and a few quests in The ATM Star chapter. The main chapter is tiered, so you work through it from the Pity Machine Frame up to the Supreme Machine Frame.[3][7]

Tier 1: from the Pity Frame to Plastic

The chapter opens with "Industrial Foregoing" quest, marked Tier 1. Its task is the Pity Machine Frame. Two side quests unlock right after it: a quest in "Industrial Foregoing" for the Pitiful Generator, and "Item & Fluid Transport" quest for the Item Transporter and Fluid Transporter.[3]

The main line from there is the rubber chain:[3]

  1. a quest in "Industrial Foregoing" asks for a Fluid Extractor, which pulls Latex out of logs. The quest says Acacia or Mangrove are the best logs.[3]
  2. "Latex" quest asks for a Latex Bucket.[3]
  3. a quest in "Industrial Foregoing" asks for a Latex Processing Unit. The quest text says it uses 750 mB of Latex and 500 mB of Water to make 1 Dry Rubber.[3]
  4. a quest in "Industrial Foregoing" asks for Dry Rubber. Smelting it gives Plastic.[3]
  5. a quest in "Industrial Foregoing" asks for Plastic, which the chapter calls the main resource of the mod.[3]

After Plastic: the branches

Plastic opens up a lot of quests at once, and you can do them in any order:[3]

Tier 2: Simple Machine Frame

The Dissolution Chamber quest unlocks "Simple Machine Frame" quest (Tier 2) and a quest in "Industrial Foregoing", which accepts any of the Range, Speed, Efficiency or Processing addons. The Simple Machine Frame then opens the Mob Detector, Marine Fisher, Hydroponic Bed, Plant Fertilizer and the Fermentation Station quest, plus several Mycelial Generator quests. "Simulated Hydroponic Bed" quest follows the Hydroponic Bed quest. The Fermentation Station quest is labeled Ore Processing: Step 2, even though it unlocks before Step 1.[3]

Tier 3: Advanced Machine Frame

"Advanced Machine Frame" quest (Tier 3) needs both the Simple Machine Frame and the Pink Slime and Liquid Meat quest. Pink Slime quests also unlock the Infinity Charger, which leads to "Infinity Tools" quest. The Advanced Machine Frame opens most of the mid-game machines:[3]

Tier 4: Supreme Machine Frame and beyond

"Ether Gas" quest asks for an Ether Gas Bucket. It unlocks after the Laser Drill quest and the Purple Laser Lens quest a quest in "Industrial Foregoing". It leads to "Supreme Machine Frame" quest (Tier 4), which opens the Mycelial Reactor, a quest in "Industrial Foregoing" for the Wither Builder, and a few more Mycelial Generator quests.[3]

The last quest, "Industrial Foregoing Souls" quest, also unlocks after the Supreme Machine Frame. It covers the Industrial Foregoing Souls add-on, and its tasks include the Blue Laser Lens plus the Soul Laser Base, Soul Network Pipe and Soul Surge. The quest recommends Stasis Chambers, because extracting souls damages the creature.[3]

The ATM Star chapter

The ATM Star chapter has three Industrial Foregoing quests. "Industrial Foregoing" quest asks for Dry Rubber and tells you to start with Rubber. Two quests follow it: "Wither Builder" quest and "Explosive Mycelial Generator" quest.[7]

The Wither Builder quest explains the route. You need a Supreme Machine Frame, which needs Ether Gas. You get Ether Gas by running a Laser Drill on a Wither, and a Stasis Chamber makes that easier. The Explosive Mycelial Generator quest suggests soaking up explosions for a Pulsating Black Hole.[7]

Which Industrial Foregoing config options matter?

5 parts

Industrial Foregoing splits its machine settings across several config files, and this pack changes quite a few of them. The 'default' values below come from the note written next to each option in the pack's own files. A few of those notes look copy-pasted between machines, so treat the defaults as hints and the pack values as the real ones.[15][50][51][52][53]

Power generators

Mob machines

Watch out: The Wither Builder is expensive in this pack. MachineAgricultureHusbandryConfig.WitherBuilderConfig.powerPerOperation is 20,000 FE per operation, where the file's note lists 500 FE. Its MachineAgricultureHusbandryConfig.WitherBuilderConfig.maxStoredPower is 70,000 FE, the same as the listed default.[15]

Farming machines

The plant machines run faster than their listed defaults of 100 ticks. MachineAgricultureHusbandryConfig.PlantGathererConfig.maxProgress and MachineAgricultureHusbandryConfig.PlantSowerConfig.maxProgress are both 40.[15]

The fertilizer runs at 50 ticks through MachineAgricultureHusbandryConfig.PlantFertilizerConfig.maxProgress, and it costs 1,000 FE per operation through MachineAgricultureHusbandryConfig.PlantFertilizerConfig.powerPerOperation, against a listed 400 FE.[15]

Latex and fluid machines

Misc and resource machines

What changed in Industrial Foregoing between versions?

All the Mons 1.3.0 ships with Industrial Foregoing 1.21-3.6.39. The mod has been in the pack since All the Mons 0.3.0-beta or earlier, so it's one of the long-standing machine mods here.[2]

Unverified I couldn't read the contents of the mod's changelogs for 1.21-3.6.37, 1.21-3.6.38 and 1.21-3.6.39, so what changed in each of those releases is unverified.

Unverified No pack changelog entries for Industrial Foregoing were available, so I can't say whether any All the Mons release changed its recipes or values.
