What is Oritech?

2 parts

Oritech is an open-source tech mod built around animated machinery. It adds processing machines, world interaction machines, logistics parts, equipment and more. Most machines are animated multiblocks, and you upgrade them with addon blocks.[1]

This pack includes Oritech 1.1.0 (the NeoForge 1.21.1 build). The mod is designed so there are usually several ways to get the same thing, which avoids roadblocks where one rare item stops you. It also aims for renewable resources: metals can come from the bedrock extractor in the late game, and oil wells and resource nodes encourage you to build outlying bases and ship items back to a central hub. Each pipe type has just one tier.[1][2]

Where it fits in the pack

The pack gives Oritech its own quest chapter, and most of its quests branch from the Oritech Beginnings quest. A good first stop is "Machine Cores" quest: right-click machines with a Primitive Machine Core to build them. Cores don't change a machine's speed or efficiency directly, only the number of modifiers it can take.[3]

Tip: Drone ports need a minimum of 50 blocks distance between them to work, so they only make sense for long hauls between bases.[3]

The ATM Star path

Yes, the ATM Star path uses Oritech. The ATM Star chapter has a quest for the Magnetic Coil, followed by "Manhattan Module" quest, which asks for the Manhattan Module. The coil is also one of the basic building components in the Oritech chapter, so the mod's early quests lead straight into that path.[3][4]

How do you get started with Oritech?

5 parts

Oritech is a tech mod built around animated multiblock machines, with upgrades added through addon blocks. In this pack the Oritech quest chapter has a starting quest called Oritech Beginnings, and most of the other quests come after it. Here is a sensible order to work through, following the chapter.[1][3]

Start with machine cores

Begin with "Machine Cores" quest and the Primitive Machine Core. Machine cores are the basis of Oritech: you right-click a machine with a core to build it. Cores don't change a machine's speed or efficiency directly. They only set how many modifiers (addons) it can take.[3]

Make your basic building components

Next is "Basic Building Components" quest: the Magnetic Coil and the Motor. The quest says they are used to make most machines, so make a few. In this pack both are Assembler-type recipes, shown below.[3][5]

Assembler (oritech)

Recipe id: oritech:assembler/motor

"Putting things together" quest is the Assembler. It lets you craft newer items, and it also improves yield for some other items.[3]

Get power running

The simplest generator is the Basic Generator, which runs on furnace fuel. The chapter also has generators for other fuels: the Bio Generator (you make biomass to feed it), the Lava Generator and the Fuel Generator (liquid fuel).[3]

Once you generate power, "Storing Energy" quest asks you to store it with a Portable Energy Storage or a Large Energy Storage. "Transfering Energy" quest covers moving it around with the Energy Pipe, Framed Energy Pipe or Energy Pipe Duct. A Pipe Booster uses power to speed up extraction from Oritech pipes.[3]

Set up ore processing

Grinding starts with the Pulverizer. The Centrifuge is described in the quest as an important machine for your future endeavours. The Fragment Forge is a better pulverizer that improves yield on all pulverisation recipes.[3]

"Ore Processing" quest says that to process ores with Oritech you need a Centrifuge with a Fluid Addon, plus a Pulverizer or Fragment Forge. The Fluid Addon recipe in this pack is below.[3][5]

With a Fluid Addon on the Centrifuge, you can feed clumps in with Sulfuric Acid to get gems. Water also works, but gives a lower yield. "Spinning into gems" quest covers this, and the pack has separate water and acid recipes for each metal. For example, iron clumps give an Iron Gem either way.[3][5]

Watch out: The quest text warns that some recipes that output dusts or nuggets are currently broken. If a clump recipe gives you something odd, check it in your recipe viewer.[3]

Looking ahead: better cores and more addons

The pack adds its own recipe for the Improved Machine Core. It also adds one for the Machine Addon Extender, which gives you more space for addons when placed on an addon slot.[3][5]

How does Oritech work?

5 parts

Oritech machines are mostly animated multiblocks, and you upgrade them by attaching addon blocks. Processing, farming, mining, power and logistics all follow that same pattern.[1]

Addons and machine cores

The mod's addon blocks include Speed, Efficiency, Yield, Fluid, Capacitor, Acceptor, Inventory Proxy, Control Unit, Silk Touch, Hunter, Burst, Synergy Matrix and Auxiliary Processing Chamber addons. There is also a Machine Addon Extender for reaching further from the machine. The pack's sources give only the names, not what each addon does or its numbers, so check the in-game tooltips.[6]

Machine cores come in seven tiers, from Primitive up to Ultimate, and there is a Machine Frame block as well. The advancement for the Ultimate Machine Core says it lets you add excessive addons.[6]

Pipes and logistics

Oritech has item, fluid and energy pipes, and each type has only one tier. Pipe blocks only get block entities where they are needed, for example when they connect to a machine, and the networks are cached. Network updates are only sent when needed, which keeps big setups cheap on performance.[1]

Beyond the basic pipes, the mod has framed versions of the energy, fluid and item pipes, a Pipe Booster, an Item Filter, and Duct blocks for each pipe type. Drones can carry items across long distances, and there is a Drone Port block for them.[1][6]

If you place an Energy Pipe Duct and want the plain pipe back, a shapeless recipe turns it back into an Energy Pipe.[5]

Processing machines

The recipes in the pack show several processing machine types: pulverizer, grinder, centrifuge, assembler and a fluid-focused centrifuge recipe type. The advancements also name the foundry and the atomic forge as machines. The pulverizer and grinder both have recipes that turn an Adamant Ingot into Adamant Dust.[5][6]

    Power and renewables

Oritech offers several ways to make power, from burning fossil fuels to running sustainable biofuel farms. Its generator blocks include the Basic Generator, Bio Generator, Fuel Generator, Lava Generator and Big Solar Panel. The design aims for renewable supplies of most things, so late-game metals come from the Bedrock Extractor, with resource nodes and oil wells spawning in the world.[1][6]

Unverified Exact pipe throughput, machine energy use, addon effect values and multiblock layouts could not be confirmed from the sources available for this pack, and no config files for Oritech were found.

How do you progress through Oritech?

    5 parts

In the pack's quest book, the Oritech chapter hangs almost everything off the Oritech Beginnings quest and then branches out. If you follow the quests in order, you climb from basic generators to the Atomic Forge and the Manhattan Module. One quest note says that some recipes which output dusts or nuggets are currently broken, and I come back to that in the ore section. Here is how that climb looks, stage by stage.[3]

Stage 1: Machine cores, power and the first machines

Everything starts with machine cores. The quest text says you right-click a machine with a core to build it, and that cores don't affect a machine's speed or efficiency directly, only the number of modifiers. The quests chain them in this order: Primitive Machine Core, Basic Machine Core, Improved Machine Core, Advanced Machine Core, Elite Machine Core, then Ultra Machine Core.[3]

The early power quests each ask you to build a different kind of generator, and the quest hints describe them like this:[3]

For storing and moving that power, the chapter has quests for the Portable and Large Energy Storage (Portable Energy Storage, Large Energy Storage) and for the energy pipe family. The pipe quest is titled "Smoothly transfer 10k rf/t". The quest for the Pipe Booster says that, with power, it boosts the extraction speed of Oritech pipes.[3]

Stage 2: Assembler, Centrifuge and ore processing

The "Basic Building Components" quest points you at the Magnetic Coil and Motor, and its hint says they are used to make most machines. Both have Assembler recipes in the pack. The Assembler quest comes after them, and its text says Assemblers also improve yield for some other items.[3][5]

The quest text calls the Centrifuge an important machine for your future endeavours. The Pulverizer quest comes first, and the Fragment Forge quest follows it as a better pulverizer that, per its text, improves yield on all pulverisation recipes.[3]

For ores, the quest text says you need a Centrifuge with a Fluid Addon plus a Pulverizer or Fragment Forge. Once you have clumps, the quest says a Centrifuge with the fluid addon can take Sulfuric Acid to turn them into gems, or water for a lower yield. The acid recipes also give Mineral Slurry as a second output. The same quest adds that currently some recipes which output dusts or nuggets are broken.[3][5]

Stage 3: Alloys, lasers and fluxite

The "Making alloys" quest pairs the Foundry with the Adamant Ingot. The pack has also changed the Adamant and Duratium alloy recipes provided for EnderIO alloy smelting, Immersive Engineering's alloy furnace and arc furnace, and Productive Metalworks casting. The Duratium quest hint is "Mix netherite and platinum".[3][5]

The Enderic Laser unlocks a lot of the chapter. The quest says lasers can transfer energy, transform materials, break blocks and speed up amethyst growth. Quests that follow the laser include the Hunter Addon, Fluxite (the quest hint says to charge amethyst with the laser) and Plutonium Dust. The Plutonium Dust quest text says you get it either by fragmenting Raw Uranium in the Fragment Forge, which gives Small Plutonium Dust, or by firing an Enderic Laser at an Uranite Crystal.[3]

The pack also changed how you can make Fluxite in other mods: AE2's Charger, Powah's Energizing and Productive Metalworks casting. It changed the Powah Energizing recipe that turns Uranite Crystal into Plutonium Dust as well.[5]

In the quest book, the Flux Gate quest comes after the Fluxite quest and the Processing Unit quest. The Enderic Compound quest hint says there are loads of ways to get it, and the pack changed some of those recipes through EnderIO compat.[3][5]

Stage 4: The Atomic Forge and the endgame

The Atomic Forge quest hint calls it the ultimate crafting machine, and its quest comes after the Duratium, Enderic Compound and Flux Gate quests. The quest text says it can only be powered by Enderic Lasers, and the pack's other quests say you link them by shift-right-clicking the Forge and the laser with a Target Designator.[3][7]

In the quest book, the addon quests branch off their own quest, separate from the main line. They cover the Speed Addon, Efficiency Addon, Capacitor Addon, Acceptor Addon and Auxiliary Processing Chamber Addon. The quest text for the Machine Addon Extender says that placed on an addon slot it gives you more space for your addons.[3]

If you also play the Master Ball chapter, some of its steps use Oritech machines. Its quest text says the Fragment Forge needs 3 Machine Casings. The Assembler uses 3 casings in a 1x2x2 shape. The Refinery needs 9 casings in a highlighted pattern. The Atomic Forge needs 8 casings for the apricorn-halves step.[7]

Tip: The drone port quest text says drone ports are fairly fast but need a minimum of 50 blocks distance to work. You place 2 of them, shift-right-click your Target Designator on one to store its location, then put the designator in the second one's UI.[3]

How does Oritech work with other mods?

    4 parts

Oritech doesn't live in its own bubble in this pack. A lot of its machines take in or hand out items from other mods, and the pack has rewritten these recipes so everything fits together. The mod itself also ships compatibility for Applied Energistics 2, Create, Ender IO, Immersive Engineering, Industrial Foregoing, Mekanism, PneumaticCraft: Repressurized and Productive Metalworks, among others.[1][5]

Ore processing outputs All the Ores items

When you run metals through Oritech machines, you get All the Ores items out the other end. The Pulverizer turns raw materials into dust, such as Iron Dust, and also gives a bonus small Oritech dust.[3][5]

    Deep Drill (oritech)

    Recipe id: oritech:deepdrill/uranium

The Foundry turns Oritech gems into All the Ores ingots, for example Nickel Gem into Nickel Ingot. The Atomic Forge turns gems into dust when you add Fluxite. The pack's Ore Processing quest ties into this chain: "Ore Processing" quest says you need a Centrifuge with a Fluid Addon, plus a Pulverizer or Fragment Forge.[3][5]

Productive Metalworks: melt, alloy and cast

Productive Metalworks can melt Oritech gems, small clumps and small dusts into its own molten metals, such as Molten Nickel. It can also alloy those into Oritech's molten alloys (Adamant, Biosteel, Duratium and Energite) and cast them into Adamant Ingot, Biosteel Ingot, Duratium Ingot and Energite Ingot. You can also cast Fluxite and Biomass with a Gem Cast.[5]

Duratium is a good example. The quest a quest in "Oritech" describes it as a mix of netherite and platinum, and the Productive Metalworks alloying recipe does exactly that with their molten forms.[3][5]

    Other mods that plug in

    • Mekanism: metallurgic infusing can make Adamant Dust and Biosteel Dust. The Centrifuge can also process Mekanism-style osmium, lead and tin clumps, with Sulfuric Acid for the acid-based recipes.[5]
    • Create: a Create mixing recipe turns Oritech Nickel and Platinum Gems into ingots. The Refinery can also turn zinc raw materials into Zinc Clump using Sheol Fire.[5]
    • Immersive Engineering: the Centrifuge turns HOP Graphite Dust into Carbon Fibre Strands, and the Grinder handles aluminum ore.[5]
    • Ender IO: Conduit Binder is used in alternative recipes for the Fluid Pipe and the Pump.[5]
    • PneumaticCraft and Industrial Foregoing: Crude Oil and Biofuel each have their own Centrifuge route to Turbofuel, and Molten Plastic can be converted into Plastic Sheet by a Cooler. The recipes are shown below.[5]

Which All the Mons quests use Oritech?

    5 parts

Same as in the All the Mons 1.3.0 guide

Oritech has its own big quest chapter, called Oritech, and it also shows up as optional task choices in a few other chapters. Almost everything in the Oritech chapter hangs off a starting quest called Oritech Beginnings, so that's where you begin.[8]

    The Oritech chapter: basics

Straight after the starting quest you get a wide set of quests that you can do in any order. Power comes first: a quest in "Oritech" asks for the Basic Generator, a quest in "Oritech" for the Bio Generator, a quest in "Oritech" for the Lava Generator and a quest in "Oritech" for the Fuel Generator. Then "Storing Energy" quest wants both the Portable Energy Storage and the Large Energy Storage.[8]

Logistics is covered by "Transfering Energy" quest (energy pipes, with the quest blurb mentioning 10k rf/t), "Transporting liquids" quest (fluid pipes and the Portable Tank), "Transporting items" quest (item pipes and the Item Filter) and a quest in "Oritech" (the Pipe Booster). a quest in "Oritech" asks for the Drone Port; its text says drone ports need a minimum of 50 blocks of distance.[8]

    Machine cores and crafting

"Machine Cores" quest starts the core line with the Primitive Machine Core. It then runs in a strict chain: a quest in "Oritech", a quest in "Oritech", a quest in "Oritech", a quest in "Oritech" and finally a quest in "Oritech", which asks for the Ultra Machine Core.[8]

"Basic Building Components" quest asks for the Magnetic Coil and Motor. It unlocks "Putting things together" quest (the Assembler), which in turn leads to a quest in "Oritech" (the Processing Unit) and a quest in "Oritech" (the Plutonium Pellet).[8]

    Ores, addons and lasers

    Endgame path

a quest in "Oritech" (Duratium Ingot) comes after the Foundry quest. a quest in "Oritech" (Flux Gate) needs the Fluxite and Processing Unit quests. a quest in "Oritech" (Atomic Forge) needs the Duratium, Enderic Compound and Flux Gate quests, and its text says it can only be powered by Enderic Lasers.[8]

After that it's a straight line: a quest in "Oritech" (Silicon Wafer), a quest in "Oritech" (Advanced Computing Engine), a quest in "Oritech" (Super AI Chip), a quest in "Oritech" (Heisenberg Compensator) and finally a quest in "Oritech" for the Manhattan Module. That last one also needs the Plutonium Pellet quest.[8]

Two quests sit a bit apart: a quest in "Oritech" for the Refinery and Refinery Chamber Module (after a quest called Refining Ores), and a quest in "Oritech" for the Nuclear Reactor Controller.[8]

    Oritech in other chapters
