What is Clumps?
1 part
Clumps is a small performance mod. It groups XP orbs into a single entity when lots of them pile up in a small area, which cuts lag. It also makes you collect orbs the moment they touch you, so you don't end up with a cloud of orbs in your face.[1]
This pack ships Clumps 19.0.0.1, the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21.1. For 1.17 and newer it only needs to be installed on the server side.[1][2]
Where it sits in the quest book
The quest sources I have don't show a quest for the Clumps mod itself, and nothing in them places it on the ATM Star path.[3]
You will still see the word "clump" in the quest book, but that is something else. The Mekanism chapter (group "Tech", chapter 50 of 70) has ore processing quests about Ore Clumps, which come from purifying ores or shards and are later crushed into dirty dust. They have nothing to do with XP orbs. Examples are "Purification Chamber" quest, which comes after Better Machines and Enrichment Chamber, and "Crush and Enrich our Clumps" quest, which comes after "Making Oxygen for Purifier" quest. Later tiers follow in "Shard, to Clump, to Dust, to Ingot" quest and "Crystal, Shard, Clump, ETC" quest.[3]
How do you get started with Clumps?
1 part
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide
Good news: Clumps doesn't ask you to craft anything or set anything up. It works in the background from the moment you load in, so there's no first item to make and no recipe to follow.[1]
What it does is group XP orbs together into a single entity. That cuts lag when lots of orbs pile up in a small area, for example around a big mob farm.[1]
It also changes how XP feels to pick up. The player collects orbs immediately once they touch you, so you aren't stuck with a bunch of orbs in your face.[1]
Server or client?
If you run your own server, the mod's project page says that for Minecraft 1.17 or newer it is only required on the server side. Older Minecraft versions need it on both sides.[1]
Unverified Whether this pack changes any Clumps behaviour is not confirmed by the available sources.
How does Clumps work?
3 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Clumps is a much simpler mod than the machine and multiblock mods you'll find elsewhere in the pack. It has no machines, no power, no fluids and nothing to automate. It works quietly in the background on one thing: XP orbs.[1]
Orb clumping
When lots of XP orbs end up in a small area, Clumps groups them into a single entity. Fewer entities means less lag, which helps a lot around XP farms and big mob fights.[1]
Instant pickup
Clumps also makes you collect an orb as soon as it touches you. You don't get stuck with a swarm of orbs floating in your face.[1]
Server or client
For Minecraft 1.17 or newer, the project page says Clumps is only required on the server side. For older Minecraft versions it has to be installed on both sides.[1]
Unverified No config options, items, recipes or in-game descriptions for Clumps could be confirmed from the available sources, so this guide doesn't list any tuning values or crafting steps for it. This site does hold All the Mons's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
How do you progress through Clumps?
1 part
Heads up: the quest text available for this pack does not describe any tiers or progression for the Clumps mod itself. The only quests that use the word "clump" are about Mekanism ore processing, and they ask for Mekanism machines and items, not anything from the clumps namespace. Because the word is easy to mix up, here is how the pack's quest book lays out that ore processing path.[3]
Unverified Any tiers, upgrade steps or progression for the Clumps mod itself are not confirmed by the pack's quests or recipes.
Mekanism ore processing tiers in the quest book
These quests are in the "Mekanism" chapter of the Tech group, and each one is labelled with an ore processing tier. Some of the chapter's quests are not covered here, so check the quest book for the full text.[3]
- Tier 1: "Enrich then Smelt" quest uses an Enrichment Chamber and an Energized Smelter. Throw ore in to get dust, then smelt the dust into ingots. 3 raw ore gives 4 dust.[3]
- Tier 2: "Making Oxygen for Purifier" quest adds a Purification Chamber fed with oxygen from an Electrolytic Separator. Ore Blocks give 3 Ore Clumps and raw ore gives 2. Then "Crush and Enrich our Clumps" quest has you crush each clump into 2 Dirty Ore Dust, enrich that into regular dust and smelt it.[3]
- Tier 3: "Making Chlorine" quest makes chlorine from brine, using a Thermal Evaporation Plant. "Injecting Hydrogen Chloride" quest combines hydrogen and chlorine into hydrogen chloride and injects ores to get shards. Ore Blocks give 4 Ore Shards and 3 raw ores give 8. "Shard, to Clump, to Dust, to Ingot" quest turns the shards into clumps, then dust, then ingots.[3]
- Tier 4: "Creating Sulfuric Acid" quest builds sulfuric acid, and "Melting Ores with Acid and Crystallizing them" quest dissolves ores into slurry, washes it and crystallizes it. Each 200mb of Ore Slurry makes 1 Crystal. "Crystal, Shard, Clump, ETC" quest then brings the shards back through the clump, dust and ingot steps.[3]
If you want the machines for these steps, "Machines" quest is where the chapter's machines branch out, and the Tier 1 to 4 quests above come after it in the quest tree.[3]
Which All the Mons quests use Clumps?
In the quest chapters I could check for this pack, no quest asks you to hand in an item from this mod. The tasks in the Mekanism and Oritech chapters all name items from other mods, so there is no quest line to follow for it.[3][4]
The name does show up, though, so here is what it refers to. The Oritech chapter (chapter 52 of 70, in the Tech group) has a quest called "Clumps" quest, subtitled "Fragment raw ores". It comes after a Refinery quest. The book data doesn't name its task item, so I can't tie it to this mod. It leads straight into "Spinning into gems" quest, which is about ore clumps in Oritech's own machines. You use a fluid addon on a centrifuge and feed it Sulphuric Acid to get gems, or Water for a lower yield.[4]
The Mekanism chapter (chapter 50 of 70, also in the Tech group) talks about ore clumps too, as part of its ore processing line. In "Making Oxygen for Purifier" quest, a Purifier with Oxygen gives 3 Ore Clumps from Ore Blocks or 2 from Raw Ore. Then "Crush and Enrich our Clumps" quest has you crush each clump into 2 Dirty Ore Dust, enrich it, and smelt it into ingots. Later tiers repeat the clump step, for example in "Shard, to Clump, to Dust, to Ingot" quest. These quests ask for Mekanism machines, not for anything from this mod.[3]
Fourteen of the 56 Oritech quests have text that isn't included here. Check the quest book for those.[4]
What changed in Clumps between versions?
1 part
All the Mons 1.3.0 ships Clumps 19.0.0.1, the NeoForge build for 1.21.1. Clumps has been in the pack since All the Mons 0.3.0-beta or earlier. I have no pack changelog entries for this mod, so everything below comes from the mod's own changelog for 19.0.0.1.[2]
What the 19.0.0.1 changelog covers
Most of this changelog is Clumps keeping up with new Minecraft versions. Here it is from oldest entry to newest.[5]
- NeoForge support was added.[5]
- A fix so the refmap is actually used.[5]
- Ports to 1.20.3 and then 1.20.4, followed by a mod version update.[5]
- Ports to 1.20.5 and then 1.20.6.[5]
- A port to 1.21.[5]
- Forge support was restored.[5]
- A port to 1.21.1, which also fixed the Forge version not working.[5]
The 1.21.1 port is the one that matters for you, since it is the Minecraft version this pack runs. The changelog lists no gameplay changes, only ports, loader support and fixes.[2][5]

Items and blocks
We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as clumps, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
