What is Productive Metalworks?
5 parts
Productive Metalworks adds a Foundry you build yourself, which melts metal into liquid and lets you cast it into blocks and items. This pack includes version 1.21.1-1.15.1.[1][2]
In this pack it changes how you obtain Silent Gear items. Instead of using Blueprints, you need Casts and a Foundry. The quest book frames this as taking the best of both Silent Gear and Tinker's Construct.[2]
Where the quest book puts it
It lives in the Silent Gear chapter. The opening quest is "Silent Gear and Productive Metalworks" quest, which asks for Fire Clay. Three quests come right after it: "Foundry Drains" quest, "Foundry Tanks" quest and "Foundry Controller" quest. All of them lead into "Building the Foundry" quest.[2]
After the Foundry is built, "Casting Items" quest comes next, and "Electric Foundry" quest follows it. The cast quests for Rod Cast, Gem Cast, Ingot Cast, Nugget Cast, Plate Cast and Gear Cast all sit after a quest called Casts.[2]
How the Foundry works
The Black Foundry Controller is the heart of the Foundry. You open it to see the liquids inside and to put items in or take them out. Fuel goes in through Black Foundry Tank blocks, and the quests name Lava as the main fuel. Liquid Heating Coil blocks make up the floor and heat the Foundry.[2]
The walls use either Black Foundry Window or Black Fire Bricks. You need 4 walls and a floor, and the corners can stay empty. The inside can be as small as 1x1, though a bigger Foundry holds more. The Controller tells you which block is missing, and the Foundry is complete when the Controller lights up like a Furnace and the coils turn orange.[2]
Getting metal out
Liquid metal is too hot for hands or buckets. Connect a Foundry Tap to a Black Foundry Drain and right-click the tap to drain it. A Casting Basin under the tap turns about 900mB of liquid metal into a full metal block, while a Casting Table is used to make cast items.[2]
Going electric
If you would rather not use Lava, the Foundry can run on FE. You use Capacitors instead of Tanks, and Powered Heating Coil or High Powered Heating Coil instead of Liquid Heating Coils. Powered coils only match the heat of Lava (1000 C), while High Powered coils also match Soul Lava (3000 C).[2]
Elsewhere in the pack
Two items from this mod also appear as tasks in the Legendaries chapter. The Melmetal quest "Melmetal" quest asks for a High Powered Heating Coil, and the Terapagos quest "Terapagos" quest asks for a Meat Block.[3]
Unverified Whether the ATM Star path uses Productive Metalworks is not shown in the sources here, so check the pack's quest book for that.
How do you get started with Productive Metalworks?
5 parts
This pack pairs Silent Gear with Productive Metalworks. Instead of Blueprints, you get your Silent Gear items by making Casts and building a Foundry. The Silent Gear quest chapter starts you off with "Silent Gear and Productive Metalworks" quest, which tells you to begin with Fire Clay.[2]

Fire Clay is a normal crafting recipe from the mod, unchanged by the pack.
Nearly every Foundry part below is crafted from Fire Brick, so you will be making plenty of them.[4]
Step 1: The core Foundry blocks
Three quests unlock right after the first one: "Foundry Controller" quest, "Foundry Tanks" quest and "Foundry Drains" quest. A lava-fuelled Foundry needs a Controller, a Tank and at least one Drain.[2][5]
- The Black Foundry Controller is the heart of the Foundry. Open it to see the liquid amounts and to put items in or take them out.[2]
- The Black Foundry Tank holds the liquids that fuel the Foundry, mostly lava.[2]
- The Black Foundry Drain is how you get liquid metal out, since it is too hot for your hands or buckets.[2]

The Foundry needs 4 walls and a floor, but the corners can stay empty. The minimum size is 3x3x2, so there is at least one air block inside. If a block is missing, the Controller tells you where. When it lights up like a Furnace and the coils turn orange, the Foundry is built. Bigger Foundries have more space inside.[2][5]
To fuel it, right-click a bucket of lava into the tank, or pipe it in. Lava is the main fuel for this kind of Foundry.[2][5]
Step 3: Getting metal out
"Casting Items" quest asks for three things: the Foundry Tap, the Casting Basin and the Casting Table. Place the Tap on a Drain, put a Basin or Table under it, then right-click the Tap to pour.[2][5]

The Basin slowly cools liquid into a full block, and the quest says about 900mB of liquid metal makes a metal block. Right-click the Basin to take the block out, or use a pipe or hopper. The Table is for making Casts.[2][5]
Step 4: Casts
Casts replace Blueprints. The Cast recipes pour molten steel onto the matching item. The pack changed the gear, plate and rod Cast recipes from the mod's versions, while the ingot, nugget and gem Cast recipes are the mod's own.[4][5]

Later: the Electric Foundry
If you would rather not use lava, "Electric Foundry" quest covers running on FE. You swap tanks for capacitors and use Powered Heating Coil or High Powered Heating Coil instead of Liquid Heating Coils. Powered coils match lava's heat (1000 C), and High Powered coils match Soul Lava (3000 C).[2][5]
In this pack, the High Powered Heating Coil is made by casting Soul Lava onto a Powered Heating Coil, which is a pack change.[4]

How does Productive Metalworks work?
6 parts
Productive Metalworks is a foundry mod: you melt things into fluids, alloy them and cast them back into items. Here is how the building blocks and the pack's recipes fit together.[4][5]
The foundry parts
The foundry is built from a family of blocks: a controller, capacitors, tanks, drains, windows and fire bricks. A Foundry Tap, a Casting Basin and a Casting Table are also in the mod. Most of the foundry blocks come in a full set of dye colours, so you can match the build to your base. The Black set is the one the pack's recipes spell out.[4][5]
The mod also has heating coil blocks: the Powered Heating Coil, the High Powered Heating Coil and the Liquid Heating Coil.[5]
Fire bricks and the controller
Everything starts with Fire Clay, which is crafted in batches of 4. You turn it into a Fire Brick in either a smelting recipe or a blasting recipe, so you don't need anything fancy early on.[4]
Fire bricks can be turned into coloured versions. One fire brick makes 4 Black Fire Bricks. Combining an existing fire brick with black dye also works, as a single-brick recipe or a batch recipe that makes 8.[4]

Melting
Melting is the biggest part of the mod. The pack has 248 item melting recipes that take items from common tags, plus another 34 that take vanilla items. Together they produce a wide range of molten fluids. For example, ancient debris melts into 200 Molten Ancient Debris.[4]
The pack changes several melting recipes so other mods' items feed the foundry. Oritech's copper gem and nickel clumps melt into Molten Copper and Molten Nickel, both 90 units per item. Create's crushed raw aluminum melts into 90 Molten Aluminum. Honeycomb gives 100 honey and 50 Molten Wax. All of these are pack-changed recipes.[4]
Alloying
Alloying combines fluids into a new one, and the pack has changed the Molten Brass recipe. It takes 3 parts copper fluid and 1 part zinc fluid, and makes 4 units of brass.[4]

Casting
Casting turns fluid back into solid items. Item casting pairs an item with fluid, and block casting pairs a block with fluid.[4]
The Gear Cast is an item casting recipe that the pack changed, and it uses 360 units of molten steel. Meat ingots are cast with an Ingot Cast. A Meat Block can also be crafted back into 8 Meat Ingot.[4]

Fluids and automation in this pack
The foundry exposes its stored fluids through a standard fluid handler, which is how the pack's Meltan ritual script reads it. The ritual checks the foundry for at least 1,000 units of molten gold and 2,000 units of molten steel. If the foundry is missing or short on either, the ritual is cancelled and you get a message. On success it drains 2,000 steel and 1,000 gold, then spawns a Meltan.[6]
How do you progress through Productive Metalworks?
5 parts
Productive Metalworks isn't a pile of separate tiers in this pack. It's one path: build a Foundry, fuel it, pour metal into casts, and then upgrade the heat. The pack's quests walk you through it, and the mod takes over from blueprints as the way you get your Silent Gear items. Here's the order to follow.[2]
Step 1: Fire Clay and the Foundry parts
The quest "Silent Gear and Productive Metalworks" quest is the starting point and asks for Fire Clay. It explains that Productive Metalworks changes how you get Silent Gear items. Instead of blueprints you'll need casts and a Foundry.[2]
Three quests open up after that, and you can do them in any order. "Foundry Controller" quest gives you the Black Foundry Controller, the heart of the Foundry. Every Foundry needs at least one, and you open it to see the liquid amounts and move items in and out. "Foundry Drains" quest gives you the Black Foundry Drain, which is how you get liquid metal out. "Foundry Tanks" quest gives you the Black Foundry Tank, which holds liquids, mostly fuel.[2]

Step 2: Build the Foundry
"Building the Foundry" quest comes after the Controller, Drain and Tank quests. You need Liquid Heating Coil for the floor, plus either Black Foundry Window or Black Fire Bricks for the walls.[2]
- The Foundry needs 4 walls and a floor, but the corners can stay empty.[2]
- It can be as small as 1x1 on the inside, though the quest recommends going bigger because a bigger Foundry has more space in it.[2]
- The Controller tells you where a block is missing. When it lights up like a Furnace and the heating coils turn orange, the Foundry is built.[2]

The quest says lava is one of the only ways to fuel the Foundry, so plan on a lava supply for your tanks.[2]
Step 3: Pour and cast
"Casting Items" quest asks for the Casting Table, the Casting Basin and the Foundry Tap. Place the tap on the Drain, then put a casting block underneath. The quest says the Basin turns about 900mB of liquid metal into a full metal block.[2]

The cast quests then follow, one each for Rod Cast, Gem Cast, Ingot Cast, Nugget Cast, Plate Cast and Gear Cast. The pack has changed the gear, plate and rod cast recipes, so don't rely on the mod's defaults for those. The gem, ingot and nugget cast recipes are unchanged from the mod.[2][4]

Step 4: Go electric and raise the heat
"Electric Foundry" quest is the upgrade path. If you'd rather not use lava, you can run the Foundry on FE. You swap Tanks for Capacitors and Liquid Heating Coils for Powered Heating Coil or High Powered Heating Coil. The quest gives the heat of each coil: Powered Heating Coils match Lava at 1000 C, and High Powered Heating Coils also match Soul Lava at 3000 C.[2]

Where it pays off
The top end of this progression shows up in the Legendaries chapter. The "Melmetal" quest ritual asks for at least 9 High Powered Heating Coils under the altar, three Soul Lava Buckets and a Metal Coat. The coils only glow once they're attached to a working Foundry, so build one first.[3]
The "Terapagos" quest ritual also asks for a Meat Block, which is made by block casting.[3][4]

How does Productive Metalworks work with other mods?
6 parts
Productive Metalworks doesn't sit on its own in this pack. The recipe data shows it wired into Allthemodium, Oritech, AllTheOres, Create and Dyenamics and Friends items, and the quest book ties it to Silent Gear. Almost all of these recipes are marked as added or changed by the pack, so they are the pack's own setup, not plain mod defaults.[2][4]
Silent Gear
The quest "Silent Gear and Productive Metalworks" quest explains the idea: Productive Metalworks changes how you obtain Silent Gear items. Instead of blueprints, you use casts and a foundry, and the quest starts you off with Fire Clay.[2]
Allthemodium, Unobtainium and Vibranium
The pack lets you cast all three of the Allthemodium-family metals in your foundry. Pour Molten Allthemodium, Molten Unobtainium or Molten Vibranium over the matching cast to get an ingot, nugget, plate, rod or gear. For example, a Gear Cast with molten Vibranium gives you Vibranium Gear.[4]
Item Casting (productivemetalworks)
Recipe id: productivemetalworks:casting/atm/allthemodium_ingot
The same pattern works for the other cast shapes and for Unobtainium and Vibranium.
Soul Lava also matters for the electric foundry. Casting Soul Lava onto a Powered Heating Coil gives you the High Powered Heating Coil.[2][4]
Block Casting (productivemetalworks)
Recipe id: productivemetalworks:casting/atm/high_powered_heating_coil
The "Electric Foundry" quest quest says Powered Heating Coils only produce the same heat as Lava (1,000 C), while High Powered Heating Coils also match Soul Lava (3,000 C). The Melmetal ritual in "Melmetal" quest asks for at least 9 High Powered Heating Coils, and they only glow when attached to a working foundry.[2][3]
Oritech
Oritech has the biggest set of compat recipes. On the melting side, Oritech gems, small clumps and small dust of copper, gold, iron, nickel and platinum all melt into the matching molten metal. One example is Small Iron Dust becoming Molten Iron.[4]
The foundry also alloys Oritech's metals. Each of these alloys is marked as changed by the pack:[4]
- Molten Diamond and Molten Nickel make Molten Adamant.[4]
- Biofuel and Molten Iron make Molten Biosteel.[4]
- Molten Netherite and Molten Platinum make Molten Duratium.[4]
- Molten Fluxite and Molten Nickel make Molten Energite.[4]
Fluid Alloying (productivemetalworks)
Recipe id: oritech:compat/productivemetalworks/alloying/adamant
You can then cast these alloys with an Ingot Cast into Adamant Ingot, Biosteel Ingot, Duratium Ingot and Energite Ingot. A Gem Cast turns Molten Fluxite into Fluxite and Biofuel into Biomass.[4]
The same compat recipes cast AllTheOres items from the foundry, including Steel Ingot, Electrum Ingot, Nickel Ingot and Platinum Ingot. Blocks of steel, electrum and nickel can be cast directly from their molten metal.[4]
Create chocolate and AllTheOres brass
The pack adds a few more casting recipes. Chocolate cast with an Ingot Cast gives you a Bar of Chocolate. Any molten brass can be cast into Brass Ingot, Brass Nugget or Brass Plate, and any molten copper can be cast into Copper Nugget.[4]
Dyenamics and Friends
The pack adds colored foundry blocks from Dyenamics and Friends. Casting Molten Redstone onto a colored fire bricks block gives you the matching colored foundry capacitor, such as Amber, Mint or Wine. The electric foundry quest says capacitors replace tanks when you power the foundry with FE.[2][4]
Block Casting (productivemetalworks)
Recipe id: dyenamicsandfriends:casting/amber_foundry_capacitor
Cobblemon legendaries
Productive Metalworks also shows up in the legendary rituals. Besides the Melmetal ritual above, the Terapagos quest "Terapagos" quest lists Meat Block among its task items.[3]
Which All the Mons quests use Productive Metalworks?
3 parts
In this pack, Productive Metalworks replaces Silent Gear's Blueprints with Casts and a Foundry. Most of the mod's quests sit in the Silent Gear chapter, and one more shows up in the Legendaries chapter. Here is the order to follow.[2]
Silent Gear chapter: building your Foundry
- "Silent Gear and Productive Metalworks" quest is the starting quest. It asks for Fire Clay, which is where you begin making the Foundry.[2]
- "Foundry Drains" quest asks for a Black Foundry Drain. Drains pull the liquid metal out, and you connect a Foundry Tap to one. Right-clicking the tap drains the metal. The Drain also shows you the liquid amounts inside the Foundry.[2]
- "Foundry Tanks" quest asks for a Black Foundry Tank. Tanks hold the liquid fuel, mostly lava, which the quest describes as one of the only ways to fuel the Foundry.[2]
- "Foundry Controller" quest asks for a Black Foundry Controller. Each Foundry needs at least one. You can open its GUI to see the liquids inside and to put items in or take them out.[2]
- "Building the Foundry" quest unlocks once you've done the four quests above. It asks for a Liquid Heating Coil, plus either a Black Foundry Window or Black Fire Bricks.[2]
- "Casting Items" quest comes after the Foundry is built. It asks for a Casting Table, a Casting Basin and a Foundry Tap.[2]
- "Electric Foundry" quest follows the casting quest and covers the electric Foundry. It asks for a Powered Heating Coil and a High Powered Heating Coil.[2]
The Foundry only needs 4 walls and a floor, and every corner can stay empty. It can be as small as 1x1 on the inside, but the quest recommends going bigger because a bigger Foundry has more space. The Controller lights up like a Furnace and the Liquid Heating Coils turn orange once it's complete. If a block is missing, the Controller tells you where.[2]
The casting quest also says a Casting Basin turns about 900mB of liquid metal into a full metal block. The Casting Table is what you need for the cast-based items that come next.[2]
Cast quests
Six more quests in the same chapter each ask for one cast, and all of them unlock after a quest called Casts. They are a quest in "Silent Gear" for the Ingot Cast, a quest in "Silent Gear" for the Nugget Cast, a quest in "Silent Gear" for the Plate Cast, a quest in "Silent Gear" for the Gear Cast, a quest in "Silent Gear" for the Rod Cast and a quest in "Silent Gear" for the Gem Cast. They have no title or description in the pack files.[2]
Legendaries chapter
Two legendary rituals use this mod. "Terapagos" quest is a Terapagos ritual that follows The Summoning Altar. Among its many tasks, it asks for a Meat Block.[3]
"Melmetal" quest is the Melmetal ritual, which comes after the Meltan quest. It asks for a High Powered Heating Coil, and the quest text says to lay at least 9 of them in the ground beneath the altar. The coils only glow once they're attached to a working Foundry, so build one to power them. The ritual also needs three Soul Lava Buckets on the altar, a Metal Coat as the catalyst, and six Meltan sent out around the altar.[3]
