What is ProjectE?
1 part
This pack includes ProjectE version 1.0.1, built for Minecraft 1.20.1. The sources I have don't include a written description of the mod, so this page sticks to what the pack's quest book shows. It covers the Philosopher's Stone, the Transmutation Table, Dark Matter and Red Matter tools and armor, plus machines like the Energy Collector MK1, Anti-Matter Relay MK1 and Energy Condenser.[1][2]
Where it sits in the quest book
In the pack's quest book, the "ProjectE" chapter sits in the "Production" group as chapter 32 of 44. Its 23 quests mostly ask you to obtain ProjectE items. The next chapter, "ProjectE Philo Stone", is also in "Production" (chapter 33 of 44).[2][3]
The chapter opens with an untitled checkmark quest. Three quests branch from there: a quest in "ProjectE", a quest in "ProjectE" and a quest in "ProjectE". The Philosopher's Stone quest carries the note "We may have buffed the recipe... a little". The sources here do not say what was changed.[2]
- After the Philosopher's Stone quest, the book asks for the Transmutation Table (a quest in "ProjectE"), then a Klein Stars quest ("Klein Stars" quest), then the Dark Matter Pedestal (a quest in "ProjectE"), then the Destruction Catalyst set (a quest in "ProjectE").[2]
- After the Alchemical Chest quest, it asks for the white Alchemical Bag (a quest in "ProjectE"), then the Energy Condenser (a quest in "ProjectE"), then the Energy Collector MK1 (a quest in "ProjectE"), then the Anti-Matter Relay MK1 (a quest in "ProjectE").[2]
- After the Dark Matter quest, it asks for the Dark Matter tools, then the Dark Matter armor, then Red Matter (a quest in "ProjectE"). From Red Matter it branches to the Red Morningstar (a quest in "ProjectE"), the Red Katar (a quest in "ProjectE") and the Red Matter armor, followed by the Red Matter tools.[2]
- The last quest in the chapter asks for the Gem armor (a quest in "ProjectE"). It comes after "EMC Link", "Power Flower" and the Destruction Catalyst quest.[2]
The follow-up chapter "ProjectE Philo Stone" has 113 quests and also contains a a quest in "ProjectE Philo Stone" quest asking for the Philosopher's Stone. It comes after a long list of item quests asking for items from other mods, such as Wyvern Cores, Soul Stars and Supremium Ingots. Only part of that chapter was available to me, so open it in the quest book for the full list.[3]
Unverified Whether the ATM Star path uses ProjectE is not shown in the sources here. Check the quest book for that path.
How do you get started with ProjectE?
6 parts
Welcome to ProjectE in this pack! The quest book has a "ProjectE" chapter in the Production group (chapter 32 of 44). It starts with an untitled checkmark quest, and the Philosopher's Stone, Alchemical Chest and Dark Matter quests all unlock right after it. Here is the order I'd go in, and why.[2]
Philosopher's Stone first
Start with Philosopher's Stone, which has its own quest: a quest in "ProjectE". The quest text says "We may have buffed the recipe... a little", and it really has. The pack changed the recipe, and it is now crafted at an Extended Crafting table.[2][4]
The ingredient list is long and made of items from many other mods. The separate "ProjectE Philo Stone" chapter (113 quests) is a set of item quests for those materials, and it also contains a Philosopher's Stone quest.[3]
Shaped Table (extendedcrafting)

Transmutation Table
Next comes Transmutation Table with a quest in "ProjectE", which unlocks after the stone and carries the same "buffed the recipe" joke. This recipe is also changed by the pack and uses an Extended Crafting table. The Klein Stars quest follows it.[2][4]
Shaped Table (extendedcrafting)
Recipe id: projecte:transmutation_table
Changed by the pack, crafted at an Extended Crafting table.
Covalence dust and the Alchemical Chest
a quest in "ProjectE" also unlocks right after the opening quest, so you can work on it alongside the stone. Covalence dust feeds into the chest recipe, so make the dust first. The pack added a recipe that makes 40 Medium Covalence Dust at once, and changed the High Covalence Dust recipe so it also makes 40.[2][4]

Energy Condenser, Collector and Relay
The white bag unlocks a quest in "ProjectE" for the Energy Condenser. Its quest note reads "Obsidian is a pain to mine, have some compensation". The pack added this recipe, and it is crafted at an Extended Crafting table.[2][4]

Dark Matter and beyond
The Dark Matter branch starts with a quest in "ProjectE" (Dark Matter). From there the quests lead to the Dark Matter tools (a quest in "ProjectE"), then the armor (a quest in "ProjectE"), and then Red Matter (a quest in "ProjectE"). A Dark Matter Block can be turned back into 4 Dark Matter.[2][4]

About EMC values
EMC values are generated once and then saved, because general.pregenerate is true. The saved results go to config/ProjectE/pregenerated_emc.json, and custom values are read from config/ProjectE/custom_emc.json.[6]
Unverified The individual EMC values are in config/ProjectE/pregenerated_emc.json and config/ProjectE/custom_emc.json. The sources here do not show the contents of those files, so I have not listed any values.
How does ProjectE work?
7 parts
ProjectE is built around EMC, and most of how it behaves in this pack comes down to config files and a few pack-edited recipes. The sources don't describe the in-game GUIs or any item and fluid automation, so this section sticks to what the pack's configs and recipes actually say.[4][6][7][8]
How EMC values are worked out
ProjectE builds its EMC table with a set of mappers. In this pack the crafting mapper, custom conversions, the custom EMC file, the tag mapper, the brewing mapper and the KubeJS mapper are all turned on. The crafting mapper also has sub-mappers for Mekanism machine recipes, Avaritia recipes, smithing, and the Applied Energistics 2 charger, inscriber and transform recipes, and they are enabled too.[6]
A few things are switched off. The Mekanism pigment extracting, painting machine and pigment mixer mappers are disabled, and so are the Applied Energistics 2 facade mapper and the weathered copper mapper.[6]
- Everything in the forge ores tag and the forge raw materials tag is forced to 0 EMC by the ore blacklist mappers (enabledMappers.OresBlacklistMapper and enabledMappers.RawOresBlacklistMapper).[6]
- general.pregenerate is on. The results of an EMC mapping are written to config/ProjectE/pregenerated_emc.json, and the mapping only runs again if that file is missing, the setting is turned off, or the file fails to parse. That file is where the full list of calculated values lives, and I can't show it here.[6]
- general.dumpEverythingToFile and general.logEMCExploits are both off.[6]
Values the pack sets by hand
The pack overrides a lot of values in entries. Philosopher's Stone and the Energy Condenser are set to 1,000,000,001 EMC. The Condenser MK2, the Transmutation Table and the Transmutation Tablet are each set to 2,000,000,001 EMC.[8]
The same file sets many items to 0 EMC. That covers the Avaritia neutron items and singularities, every Energy Collector and power flower from the Project Expansion add-on, the vanilla and Sophisticated Storage shulker boxes, Functional Storage drawers, and Sophisticated Backpacks. It also gives Charcoal 64 EMC and Low Covalence Dust 72 EMC. The Tome of Knowledge is set to 1 EMC.[8]
Burning and storing EMC
server.difficulty.covalenceLoss is 1 in this pack. That ratio decides how much EMC you get back when burning an item, and the config's own example is that 0.5 returns half the cost. server.difficulty.covalenceLossRounding is true, so a burn value below 1 EMC is rounded up to 1 instead of down to 0.[7]
Of the item processors in the processing config, only the damage processor and the stored EMC processor are enabled. The enchantment, armor trim, decorated pot, Mekanism contents and AE2 inventory processors are all off.[9]
Klein Stars are the portable EMC storage. common.fullKleinStars is false here, so the Tome and Gem Armor recipes don't need full Omega stars. The Klein Star Drei is made by combining four Klein Star Zwei, and it uses a special ProjectE shapeless Klein Star recipe type.[4][5][10]
Collectors, relays and condensers
The pack changed all three Energy Collector recipes. They are now made in an Extended Crafting shaped table, not in a normal crafting grid. The MK1 uses a 5 by 5 pattern, and each tier builds on the one before it.[4][11]

Shaped Table (extendedcrafting)
Recipe id: projecte:collector_mk3

Anti-Matter Relays come in MK1, MK2 and MK3. The mod's advancement for the relay says they link collectors together for more power. The mod also has a JEI category called Collector Fuel Upgrades. The sources don't give the output numbers for collectors or relays.[10]
The Energy Condenser (called Energy Condenser in game) has a pack-added recipe, also made in an Extended Crafting table. The Condenser MK2 exists as a block, and the pack uses it as an ingredient in one of its endgame recipes.[4][10][12]
Shaped Table (extendedcrafting)
Recipe id: extreme_projecte:condenser_mk1
Pedestal and passive effects
The Dark Matter Pedestal powers several items just by holding them. Each effect has its own delay setting in the server config. Here are this pack's values for the ones you are most likely to use:[7][10]
- Archangel's Smite: delay of 40 between arrows (server.cooldown.cooldown.pedestal.archangel).[7][10]
- Body Stone: delay of 10 between heals of 0.5 shanks (server.cooldown.cooldown.pedestal.body).[7]
- Harvest Goddess Band: delay of 100 between grow and harvest attempts (server.cooldown.cooldown.pedestal.harvest).[7]
- Ignition Ring: delay of 40 between attempts to light entities on fire (server.cooldown.cooldown.pedestal.ignition).[7]
- Zero Ring: delay of 40 between extinguishing entities and freezing ground (server.cooldown.cooldown.pedestal.zero).[7]
- Swiftwolf's Rending Gale: delay of 70 between attempts to smite mobs (server.cooldown.cooldown.pedestal.swrg).[7][10]
Items carried in your inventory use separate delays. Feeding, healing and the Talisman of Repair each have a delay of 20. The Gem Chestplate explosion cooldown and the projectile cooldown are both 0.[7]
The Watch of Flowing Time is enabled. On a pedestal it gives a bonus of 18 ticks, set by server.effects.timePedBonus.[7]
The same pedestal effect slows mobs by a factor of 0.1, set by server.effects.timePedMobSlowness.[7]
The Interdiction Torch only affects hostile mobs and projectiles, because server.effects.interdictionMode is true.[7]
Tools and Gem Armor
- Gem Armor offensive abilities (helmet zap and chestplate explosion) are turned off in this pack, since server.difficulty.offensiveAbilities is false.[7]
- Radius mining is still allowed (server.items.disableAllRadiusMining is false). The older AOE vein mining for the Dark and Red Matter pickaxes is off, so they use the normal vein mining on the ore you click.[7]
- The Harvest Goddess Band doesn't passively grow tall grass and flowers, and the Evertide Amulet can't place water in dimensions where water evaporates, such as the Nether.[7]
The pack also added its own Gem Boots recipe, which uses the Red Matter Boots, a Klein Star Omega and two Swiftwolf's Rending Gale among its ingredients.[4]

How do you progress through ProjectE?
8 parts
ProjectE has its own chapter in the pack's quest book. It sits in the Production group as chapter 32 of 44 and holds 23 quests. The Philosopher's Stone, Alchemical Chest and Dark Matter quests all branch off an untitled checkmark quest, so the chapter splits into three paths. Here is how each one plays out, with the in-pack recipes.[2]
Philosopher's Stone and the Transmutation Table
The a quest in "ProjectE" quest comes with the note "We may have buffed the recipe... a little". The Philosopher's Stone recipe is changed by the pack and is an Extended Crafting shaped table recipe, not a normal crafting grid one.[2][4]
A separate chapter called "ProjectE Philo Stone" (chapter 33, 113 quests) is your shopping list for it. Its final Philosopher's Stone quest only unlocks after all of the material quests.[3]

Next in the chain is a quest in "ProjectE", which carries the same "buffed the recipe" note. The Transmutation Table recipe is also changed by the pack. After it comes the "Klein Stars" quest quest, then a quest in "ProjectE", then a quest in "ProjectE", which asks for Nova Cataclysm, Destruction Catalyst and Hyperkinetic Lens.[2][4]

Alchemical Chest and the energy chain
The second path goes a quest in "ProjectE", then a quest in "ProjectE", then a quest in "ProjectE", then a quest in "ProjectE", and finally a quest in "ProjectE". The Energy Condenser quest says "Obsidian is a pain to mine, have some compensation". The pack adds its own recipe for Energy Condenser, and it changes the recipe for Energy Collector MK1.[2][4]

Then comes a quest for the four armor pieces. The Dark Matter recipe is the mod's own, and so are the tool and armor recipes shown in the recipe dump. The Dark Matter Furnace has its own quest in the Smelters chapter.[2][4][13]

The Katar quest note reads "Good luck killing the Chaos Dragon to make this". The Red Matter tools quest follows the armor, and the "EMC Link" quest quest follows the tools. The Red Matter Furnace has its own quest in the Smelters chapter.[2][13]
Gem armor
The last quest in the chapter is a quest in "ProjectE", which asks for the full Gem armor set. It unlocks after the EMC Link, Power Flower and Destruction Catalyst quests. The pack adds its own recipes for Gem Helmet, Gem Chestplate and Gem Boots.[2][4]

How does ProjectE work with other mods?
5 parts
ProjectE does not stand alone in this pack. Its Dark Matter, Red Matter and Covalence Dust show up in recipes from ProjectExpansion, ProjectExtended, the ME network add-ons, Avaritia and the pack's creative-item recipes. Here are the links you will actually run into.[4]
ProjectExpansion
This is the biggest connection. The recipe dump has 19 shaped recipes that take ProjectE items and make ProjectExpansion items, 15 shaped recipes that mix both mods, and 14 shapeless ones that do too. Another 6 shapeless recipes turn ProjectE items directly into ProjectExpansion ones.[4]
The pack adds its own recipe for the Basic EMC Link [MK 1], so don't rely on the mod's default for it.[4]

Avaritia's Infinity gear also uses ProjectE equipment. The pack changed the axe, boots, helmet, hoe and pants recipes, and each one takes both the Dark Matter and the Red Matter version of that piece.[4]
The Energy Condenser MK2 is an ingredient in the pack's Creative ME Item Cell and Creative Fluid Storage Disk recipes, and in the pack's recipe for the Refined Storage creative storage disk. All three are crafted at an Extended Crafting table and also use Fading Matter.[4][12][18]

In the quest book
The chapter called ProjectE (chapter 32 of 44, in the Production group) has 23 quests and follows ProjectE items from the Philosopher's Stone through Red Matter gear.[2]
The next chapter, ProjectE Philo Stone, has 113 quests. Its a quest in "ProjectE Philo Stone" quest comes after a long list of items from other mods, such as Cataclysm eyes, ArmorPlus crystals, Twilight Forest Fiery Tears and Botania's Third Eye. The text of 83 of that chapter's quests is not included here, so check the quest book for the rest.[3]
Which Project Infinity 0.1 quests use ProjectE?
5 parts
The main ProjectE chapter sits in the Production group of the quest book. It starts from an untitled checkmark quest, and the a quest in "ProjectE", a quest in "ProjectE" and a quest in "ProjectE" quests list it as their prerequisite. From there the chapter splits into three lines.[2]
Line 1: Philosopher's Stone to Gem Boots
- a quest in "ProjectE" asks for the Philosopher's Stone. The book's note says "We may have buffed the recipe... a little", so don't assume the default recipe.[2]
- a quest in "ProjectE" asks for the Transmutation Table, with the same note about a buffed recipe.[2]
- "Klein Stars" quest is a tag-filter task, so it accepts any item matching the tag.[2]
- a quest in "ProjectE" asks for the Dark Matter Pedestal.[2]
- a quest in "ProjectE" ("Have fun!") asks for three items: the Nova Cataclysm, the Destruction Catalyst and the Hyperkinetic Lens.[2]
Line 2: chest, bag and energy blocks
- a quest in "ProjectE" asks for the Alchemical Chest.[2]
- a quest in "ProjectE" asks for the Alchemical Bag (White).[2]
- a quest in "ProjectE" asks for the Energy Condenser. The book's note reads "Obsidian is a pain to mine, have some compensation".[2]
- a quest in "ProjectE" asks for the Energy Collector MK1.[2]
- a quest in "ProjectE" asks for the Anti-Matter Relay MK1.[2]
- An untitled checkmark quest follows (a quest in "ProjectE"), and then "Power Flower" quest, another tag-filter task.[2]
Line 3: Dark Matter and Red Matter
- a quest in "ProjectE" asks for Dark Matter.[2]
- a quest in "ProjectE" asks for a set of Dark Matter tools: the Dark Matter Sword, Dark Matter Axe, Dark Matter Pickaxe, Dark Matter Shovel, Dark Matter Hoe, Dark Matter Hammer and Dark Matter Shears.[2]
- a quest in "ProjectE" asks for the Dark Matter armor pieces, from Dark Matter Helmet to Dark Matter Boots.[2]
- a quest in "ProjectE" asks for Red Matter. Three quests list it as a prerequisite: a quest in "ProjectE" (Red Morningstar), a quest in "ProjectE" (the Red Matter armor set) and a quest in "ProjectE" (Red Katar). The book says of the Katar: "Good luck killing the Chaos Dragon to make this".[2]
- After the Red Matter armor comes a quest in "ProjectE", the Red Matter tools from Red Matter Sword to Red Matter Shears. Then comes "EMC Link" quest, another tag-filter task, with the note "Did you read that?".[2]
The chapter ends with a quest in "ProjectE", which asks for the Gem armor pieces (Gem Helmet, Gem Chestplate, Gem Leggings and Gem Boots). The book lists "EMC Link" quest, "Power Flower" quest and a quest in "ProjectE" as its prerequisites.[2]
The Philo Stone chapter
There is also a separate chapter called "ProjectE Philo Stone" in the Production group. Most of its quests ask you to hand in items from other mods. Many come as a bulk quest with single-item quests after it, for example a quest in "ProjectE Philo Stone" (8 Rosarium), a quest in "ProjectE Philo Stone" (2 Wyvern Cores), a quest in "ProjectE Philo Stone" (4 Soul Stars) and a quest in "ProjectE Philo Stone" (Ultimate Singularity). The final quest, a quest in "ProjectE Philo Stone", asks for the Philosopher's Stone and lists those gathering quests as its prerequisites.[3]
ProjectE quests in other chapters
- Smelters (Production group): a quest in "Smelters" asks for the Dark Matter Furnace and a quest in "Smelters" asks for the Red Matter Furnace. Neither lists a prerequisite.[13]
- Useful mods and Items: a quest in "Useful mods and Items" asks for the Repair Talisman, with no prerequisite listed.[19]
- Masterful Machinery (Production group): a quest in "Masterful Machinery" asks for the multi compactor controller plus a Philosopher's Stone, after the Priority Setter quest.[20]
- EndGame (Storyline group): a quest in "EndGame" asks for 2 of the Energy Condenser MK2. It is also listed as a prerequisite of a quest in "EndGame" (the Creative ME Item Cell, "The Culmination of all of your efforts. Be Proud!").[17]
Which ProjectE config options matter?
6 parts
ProjectE has a lot of config files, so here are the options you are most likely to run into and exactly how this pack sets them. If a value was changed from the mod default, I only say so where the pack's own files show it.[5][7]
Tome of Knowledge and Klein Stars (common.toml)
- common.craftableTome is false in this pack, so the Tome of Knowledge is not craftable.[5]
- common.fullKleinStars is false. When it is true, full omega Klein Stars are required in the Tome of Knowledge and Gem Armor recipes, like in EE2. Here that requirement is off.[5]
- common.debugLogging is false, so there is no extra verbose logging.[5]
Difficulty and gameplay (server.toml)
- server.difficulty.covalenceLoss is 1, the top of its 0.1 to 1.0 range. Burning an item returns its full EMC cost. Setting it to 0.5 would return half.[7]
- server.difficulty.covalenceLossRounding is true, so a burn value under 1 EMC rounds up to 1 instead of down to 0.[7]
- server.difficulty.offensiveAbilities is false. Gem Armor's offensive abilities (helmet zap and chestplate explosion) are disabled.[7]
- server.misc.unsafeKeyBinds is false, which means your hand must be empty to ready or trigger the Gem Armor offensive abilities.[7]
- server.difficulty.katarDeathAura is 1000, the damage the Katar 'C' key deals.[7]
- server.items.pickaxeAoeVeinMining is false, so the Dark/Red Matter Pick and Star vein mine only the ore you right click. server.items.disableAllRadiusMining is also false, so radius mining is still on.[7]
- server.items.opEvertide is false, so the Evertide Amulet cannot place water in dimensions where it evaporates, like the Nether. server.items.harvBandGrass is false too, so the Harvest Goddess Band does not passively grow tall grass and flowers on grass.[7]
- The Watch of Flowing Time is enabled (server.items.enableTimeWatch = true). In a pedestal it gives a bonus of 18 (server.effects.timePedBonus) and slows mobs by a factor of 0.1 (server.effects.timePedMobSlowness).[7]
- server.effects.interdictionMode is true, so the Interdiction Torch only affects hostile mobs and projectiles.[7]
Cooldowns
The pedestal and in-inventory delays are in server.toml. A few pedestal ones: server.cooldown.cooldown.pedestal.life is 5, server.cooldown.cooldown.pedestal.body and server.cooldown.cooldown.pedestal.soul are 10, server.cooldown.cooldown.pedestal.harvest is 100 and server.cooldown.cooldown.pedestal.swrg is 70. The Gem Chestplate explosion cooldown (server.cooldown.cooldown.player.gemChest) and the projectile cooldown (server.cooldown.cooldown.player.projectile) are both 0.[7]
EMC values the pack overrides
The pack sets its own EMC values in entries. The Transmutation Table (Transmutation Table) and Tablet (Transmutation Tablet) are 2,000,000,001 EMC, as is Energy Condenser MK2. Energy Condenser and Philosopher's Stone are 1,000,000,001. The Tome of Knowledge (Tome of Knowledge) is 1, Low Covalence Dust is 72 and Charcoal is 64.[8]
The same file sets many items to 0 EMC, including the Avaritia neutron items and singularities, Time in a Bottle, the Sophisticated Backpacks and Storage containers, Functional Storage drawers and every vanilla shulker box.[8]
EMC mapping (mapping.toml)
general.pregenerate is true. The results of the EMC mapping are written to config/ProjectE/pregenerated_emc.json and the mapping only reruns if that file is missing, the setting is turned off, or parsing fails. That file is large and not shown here, so look in it for the calculated values.[6]
A few mappers are off in this pack: enabledMappers.AE2FacadeMapper and enabledMappers.WeatheredCopperMapper, plus the Mekanism pigment extracting, painting machine and pigment mixer crafting mappers. The Mekanism sawmill mapper (CraftingMapper.MekSawmill.enabled) is on here, even though its own comment says it is disabled by default.[6]
The mapper for ore blocks (enabledMappers.OresBlacklistMapper) and the one for raw materials (enabledMappers.RawOresBlacklistMapper) are both on, so everything in the forge:ores and forge:raw_materials tags gets 0 EMC.[6]
Tooltips (client.toml)
EMC tooltips are on (client.emcToolTips), but you have to hold shift to see them (client.shiftEmcToolTips). The learned/unlearned text also needs shift. client.tagToolTips is false, so turn it on if you want to see item tags for custom EMC registration. client.pulsatingOverlay is false, so the Philosopher's Stone overlay does not pulsate.[21]
EMC values also show up when you look at a block in Hwyla or TOP (server.misc.hwylaTOPDisplay = true).[7]
