What is Refined Storage?
1 part
Refined Storage is the pack's network storage mod. The pack ships version 1.12.4. Going by what the quest book asks you to build, you run a Controller with Cable to link everything, keep your items on disks in a Disk Drive, and automate with a Pattern Grid and Crafter.[1][2]
Where the quest book puts it
The mod has its own chapter, "Refined Storage", in the group "Storage and Power". It is chapter 16 of 44 in the book and holds 68 quests.[2]
The chapter opens with the "Refined Storage" quest quest, then "Getting Started" quest, then the processor quest a quest in "Refined Storage". After that comes "Core of Refined Storage" quest, which asks for the controller. Most of the chapter branches from there.[2]
- a quest in "Refined Storage" leads on to "Bus Bus Bus Bus !" quest, the importer, exporter, interface and external storage quest.[2]
- "Upgrades People ! Upgrades !" quest leads to the individual upgrade quests, such as a quest in "Refined Storage" and a quest in "Refined Storage".[2]
- "Please Insert Disk" quest leads to the storage part quests, starting with a quest in "Refined Storage".[2]
- "Auto-Crafting" quest comes after both the core quest and the Construction Core quest, and leads to "Alexa ! Craft for me" quest.[2]
- "Wireless Access" quest leads on to a quest in "Refined Storage" and "Distant Networking" quest.[2]
Later quests in the chapter ask for items from add-ons, using the namespaces cabletiers, extrastorage, rsrequestify and rsinfinitybooster. They cover things like higher tier buses, bigger storage parts, requesters and range boosters.[2]
The mod shows up again in the "EndGame" chapter (group "Storyline", chapter 7 of 44). The "Refined Storage Disks" quest quest there asks for the Creative Fluid Storage Disk and the Creative Storage Disk, and comes after "The Beginning of the End". Most of that chapter's quests are not shown to me, so check the quest book for the rest.[3]
Nothing in the quest sources ties Refined Storage to an ATM Star path.[2][3]
How do you get started with Refined Storage?
6 parts
Welcome to Refined Storage in this pack! The quest book has a Refined Storage chapter in the group "Storage and Power". Its "Getting Started" quest comes right after the intro quest and asks for Quartz Enriched Iron and Processor Binding. Follow that order and you will have a working network quickly.[2]
Step 1: Quartz Enriched Iron
Make this first, because it turns up in the Controller recipe and in the storage part recipes. The pack changed this recipe, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults. One craft gives you 4 ingots.[4]

There are other routes too. A Thermal smelter recipe also makes 4 per craft, and a Mystical Agriculture essence recipe makes 8.[4]
Step 2: Processor Binding
This is the second item the Getting Started quest wants. One craft gives you 8 bindings, so you won't need to repeat it often.[4]

Step 3: Silicon
Silicon is smelted from quartz. Make some now, because the raw Advanced Processor recipe and the Controller recipe both use it.[4]
Step 4: Processors
The next quest, "Advanced Processor", asks for the Basic Processor, the Improved Processor and the Advanced Processor. The pack changed the raw Advanced Processor recipe, and it also added an Ender IO smelting recipe for the finished processor. Both are shown below.[2][4]

Step 5: The Controller
The quest "Core of Refined Storage" asks for the Controller, the heart of your network. It comes after the processor quest in the book.[2]

Step 6: Cable and storage
Once the Controller is done, the book branches into the Cable quest, the "Upgrades People ! Upgrades !" quest and the "Please Insert Disk" quest. You can place devices right next to each other to connect them, or use Cable to link them up.[2][5]
For storage, craft a Disk Drive and a storage disk, then put the disk in the drive. The "Please Insert Disk" quest covers the drive, and the 1k Storage Part quest follows it.[2][5]

How does Refined Storage work?
6 parts
Refined Storage is built around a storage network: a group of connected devices that share one pool of items and fluids. You can place devices right next to each other to connect them, or use Cable to link them over a distance.[4][5]
Connecting and securing a network
A Relay lets you control with redstone whether a network signal can pass, so you can switch parts of a network on and off. If you don't want to run cables at all, a Network Transmitter, a Network Receiver and a Network Card add components to your network without cables. The Network Transmitter screen shows the distance in blocks and warns you with "Missing Network Card" if the card isn't installed.[5]
For wireless access, a Wireless Transmitter sends out a network signal. Wireless devices such as the Wireless Grid, Wireless Fluid Grid and Wireless Crafting Monitor use it to reach the network.[5]
A Security Manager together with a Security Card secures the network. Its permission list includes Insert (putting items or fluids into the network) and Extract.[5]
Storing items and fluids
Disks hold your items and fluids, and a Disk Drive is the block that holds the disks. Craft a Storage Disk for items or a Fluid Storage Disk for fluids and put it in a Disk Drive. A Disk Manipulator lets you modify the contents of disks easily, and its screen has In and Out sections.[5]
An External Storage gives the network storage from an outside block such as a chest. Storage Blocks also exist in several sizes, including fluid versions, and Fluid Storage Blocks are listed up to the 4096k size.[5]
The Portable Grid lets you reach items and fluids in disks without being connected to a network. Its tooltip says to sneak to place it in the world.[5]
Getting things in and out
- Importer: gets items or fluids into the network.[5]
- Exporter: gets items or fluids out of the network.[5]
- Interface: exports and imports items at the same time. There is also a Fluid Interface with In and Out sections.[5]
- Destructor: gets blocks or fluids into the network from the world.[5]
- Constructor: gets blocks or fluids out of the network and into the world.[5]
- Detector: detects items or fluids in the network.[5]
- Storage Monitor: lets you view, insert or extract items of a network.[5]
Upgrades improve various devices. Putting a Crafting Upgrade in an Interface, Exporter or Constructor makes that device craft items and blocks on demand. The pack still uses the mod's special recipe type for enchanted-book upgrades, so the Fortune Upgrade is made from the Fortune enchantment.[4][5]
Upgrade With Enchanted Book (refinedstorage)
- Fortune
Recipe id: refinedstorage:fortune_1_upgrade
Grids and autocrafting
A Grid lets you interact with your item storage and a Fluid Grid does the same for fluids. You can upgrade a Grid into a Crafting Grid to get crafting abilities in it. For autocrafting you make patterns with a Pattern Grid and a Pattern, and a Crafter Manager helps you manage those patterns.[5]
With JEI, CTRL + CLICK (CMD + CLICK on Mac) requests autocrafting, and JEI shows "Autocrafting available" when the network can do it.[5]
A Crafting Monitor shows the state of your crafting tasks, and a wireless version exists too. Its screen reports counts for Crafting, Processing, Scheduled, Stored and Missing items. It also shows reasons a task is stuck: "Crafter is locked", "No machine found", "Machine doesn't accept item" and "Machine doesn't accept fluid".[5]
What the pack changes
The Controller is crafted with the mod's own shaped recipe in this pack.[4]

How do you progress through Refined Storage?
5 parts
The pack's quest book gives Refined Storage its own chapter, "Refined Storage", in the "Storage and Power" group. It opens with a checkmark quest and then "Getting Started", so the tiers below follow that order.[2]
Tier 1: Materials and processors
"Getting Started" quest asks for Quartz Enriched Iron and Processor Binding. The pack changed the crafting recipe for Quartz Enriched Iron, so don't rely on what you remember from the base mod.[2][4]

The "Upgrades People ! Upgrades !" quest asks for the Upgrade, and the individual upgrade quests branch from it, including the Crafting Upgrade and the Fortune upgrade.[2][4]
The "Bus Bus Bus Bus !" quest follows the Cable quest and is where the Exporter shows up. The quest for the Fluid Interface comes after it.[2][4]
The Exporter recipe.
Tier 3: Storage parts
The item storage parts form one chain after the "Please Insert Disk" quest, and the fluid parts form a second chain after the same quest.[2]
- Item parts: 1k Storage Part, 4k Storage Part, 16k Storage Part, 64k Storage Part. After those the quests move on to Extra Storage parts.[2][4]
- Fluid parts: 64k Fluid Storage Part, 256k Fluid Storage Part, 1024k Fluid Storage Part, 4096k Fluid Storage Part. After those the chain continues with Extra Storage fluid parts.[2][4]

Tier 4: Autocrafting, wireless and bigger cables
The Construction Core quest asks for the Crafting Grid, Construction Core and Destruction Core. The "Auto-Crafting" quest needs both that quest and "Core of Refined Storage", and "Alexa ! Craft for me" then asks for the Crafter. The Constructor and Destructor quest, "Other Monitors" and "Wireless Access" also come after the Construction Core quest.[2][4]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: refinedstorage:crafter
The Crafter recipe uses both cores and an Advanced Processor.
The Range Upgrade quest comes after "Wireless Access", and the Infinity Range Booster quest comes after that.[2]
"Distant Networking" is another branch after "Wireless Access". It asks for, among other items, the Network Card.[2]
The chapter also continues into addon tiers: a chain of Extra Storage crafters that starts after the Crafter quest, and Elite, Ultra and Mega versions of the bus blocks and the Constructor, which follow their base quests.[2]
Endgame: creative items
The Refined Storage chapter ends with creative items: the Creative Storage Disk, Creative Storage Block, Creative Wireless Grid, Creative Wireless Crafting Monitor and Creative Wireless Fluid Grid. All of their quests hang off an untitled checkmark quest.[2][4]
The EndGame chapter also has a "Refined Storage Disks" quest that asks for the Creative Fluid Storage Disk and the Creative Storage Disk. It unlocks after "The Beginning of the End".[3]
The pack adds these creative recipes itself. The disks and wireless items are made in an Extended Crafting table, and the Creative Controller uses a pack-changed Avaritia table recipe. Both disks use the pack's Infinity 12 item.[4][7]

How does Refined Storage work with other mods?
7 parts
Refined Storage links up with a lot of mods in this pack, mostly through recipes where one of its items, like the Advanced Processor or Quartz Enriched Iron, is part of another mod's item. The quest book chapter "Refined Storage" sits in the group "Storage and Power" (chapter 16 of 44) and follows many of these links.[2][4]
Extra Storage
Extra Storage carries the storage part and disk ladder past what Refined Storage offers, with parts like 256k Storage Part, 1024k Storage Part and 16384k Storage Part, plus a matching line of fluid parts. Each of its disks has both a shaped and a shapeless recipe. These are the mod's own recipes, not pack changes.[4]

In the quest book, the fluid part chain ends with a quest in "Refined Storage", which comes after a quest in "Refined Storage". Extra Storage's crafters (Iron, Gold, Diamond and Netherite) follow "Alexa ! Craft for me" quest, starting with a quest in "Refined Storage".[2]
Cable Tiers
The pack changed the Cable Tiers recipes. There are Elite versions of the importer, exporter, constructor, destructor, disk manipulator, interface and requester, and Ultra versions of all of those except the interface and requester recipes shown in the dump. Each Elite part is built from the matching Refined Storage block, and each Ultra part is built from the matching Elite part.[4]

The quest book follows the same ladder. a quest in "Refined Storage", a quest in "Refined Storage" and a quest in "Refined Storage" come after "Bus Bus Bus Bus !" quest. The Ultra quests come after their Elite versions, and the Mega quests come after the Ultra ones.[2]
RS Requestify
The Requester and Crafting Emitter are RS Requestify items with their own mod recipes, both using Refined Storage parts. In the quest book they come after "Can I get umm..." quest, which itself follows "Alexa ! Craft for me" quest. The Elite Requester is built on the Requester.[2][4]

Ender IO and Advanced Peripherals
The pack changed the recipe for the Refined Storage Conduit, so one craft makes 3 of them. It also added a recipe that makes 8 Conductive Alloy Energy Conduit using Quartz Enriched Iron, and the pack's Ender IO script uses that conduit as the first step of its conduit upgrade chain.[4][9]

The Wireless Universal Grid recipe was changed by the pack, and it combines the Wireless Grid, Wireless Fluid Grid and Wireless Crafting Grid. The Insert Upgrade and Export Upgrade use Speed and Stack Upgrades, and the Sky RS Interface has its own Sky Logistics recipe type.[4]
Creative items
The pack adds Extended Crafting table recipes for the creative Refined Storage items, such as the Creative Wireless Grid, Creative Portable Grid and Creative Wireless Universal Grid. The Creative Controller uses an Avaritia table recipe that the pack changed.[4]
The two creative disks are the biggest crossover. Their recipes draw on items from Avaritia, Evolved Mekanism, Industrial Foregoing, Iron Furnaces, PneumaticCraft, ProjectE and Project Expansion. The fluid version is a 9 by 9 grid.[4][7]

Which Project Infinity 0.1 quests use Refined Storage?
6 parts
The pack's quest book has a dedicated "Refined Storage" chapter in the "Storage and Power" group. One more Refined Storage quest sits in the EndGame chapter. Here is the order the book gives them in.[2][3]
The starting line
- "Refined Storage" quest is a checkmark quest that opens the chapter.[2]
- "Getting Started" quest comes next and asks you for Quartz Enriched Iron and Processor Binding.[2]
- a quest in "Refined Storage" follows it and asks you to get the processors, up to the Advanced Processor.[2]
- "Core of Refined Storage" quest comes after that and asks you for the Controller.[2]
Branching out from the Controller
Four quests come after the Controller quest: a quest in "Refined Storage", "Upgrades People ! Upgrades !" quest, "Please Insert Disk" quest and "Auto-Crafting" quest. The Auto-Crafting quest also waits for the Construction Core quest.[2]
- Cables and buses: a quest in "Refined Storage" asks you for the Cable. "Bus Bus Bus Bus !" quest comes after it. Then a quest in "Refined Storage" and the Elite importer, exporter and interface quests follow.[2]
- Upgrades: "Upgrades People ! Upgrades !" quest asks you for the Upgrade. Its follow-ups include a quest in "Refined Storage", a quest in "Refined Storage", a quest in "Refined Storage", a quest in "Refined Storage", a quest in "Refined Storage" and a quest in "Refined Storage".[2]
- Disks: "Please Insert Disk" quest asks you for the Disk Drive. The storage part quests and a quest in "Refined Storage" come after it.[2]
- Construction Core: a quest in "Refined Storage" leads on to "Other Monitors" quest, "Wireless Access" quest and a quest in "Refined Storage".[2]
Storage part chains
The item storage chain starts at a quest in "Refined Storage" and goes on through a quest in "Refined Storage", a quest in "Refined Storage" and a quest in "Refined Storage". It then continues with a quest in "Refined Storage", a quest in "Refined Storage", a quest in "Refined Storage" and a quest in "Refined Storage".[2]
The fluid chain starts at a quest in "Refined Storage" and goes through a quest in "Refined Storage", a quest in "Refined Storage" and a quest in "Refined Storage". It carries on with a quest in "Refined Storage", a quest in "Refined Storage", a quest in "Refined Storage" and finally a quest in "Refined Storage".[2]
Wireless and range
"Wireless Access" quest asks you for the Wireless Transmitter and the Wireless Grid. Two quests follow it. One is a quest in "Refined Storage", then a quest in "Refined Storage" and a quest in "Refined Storage". The other is "Distant Networking" quest.[2]
Auto-crafting
"Auto-Crafting" quest asks you for the Pattern Grid and the Pattern. Then "Alexa ! Craft for me" quest asks you for the Crafter. From there the book offers a crafter ladder: a quest in "Refined Storage", a quest in "Refined Storage", a quest in "Refined Storage" and a quest in "Refined Storage". The other branch is "Can I get umm..." quest, which leads to a quest in "Refined Storage" and a quest in "Refined Storage", then the Ultra and Mega requester quests.[2]
Creative items
The chapter also has an untitled checkmark quest with no prerequisite. Five creative item quests come after it, including a quest in "Refined Storage" and a quest in "Refined Storage".[2]
In the EndGame chapter, in the "Storyline" group, "Refined Storage Disks" quest asks you for the Creative Fluid Storage Disk and the Creative Storage Disk. It comes after "The Beginning of the End" quest.[3]
