What is Project Expansion?
1 part
Project Expansion is an unofficial expansion of ProjectE. It gives you an EMC display and more ways to passively generate EMC. It is based on ProjectEX, which its page says seems to be mostly abandoned, and it has been rewritten from the ground up with some new things. This pack ships version 1.20.1-1.1.3.[1][2]
Where it sits in the quest book
The pack's quest book places the mod in the "EndGame" chapter, which sits in the "Storyline" group. Two quests in that chapter ask you for items from the mod.[3]
- The quest a quest in "EndGame" asks you to hand in 8 of Fading Matter. In the quest book it comes after an untitled checkmark quest, a quest in "EndGame".[3]
- The quest a quest in "EndGame" asks you for Final Star. In the quest book it comes after "The Beginning of the End" quest, which in turn follows "One Giant Leap".[3]
In the quest book, both quests come before the same quest: a quest in "EndGame", described there as "The Culmination of all of your efforts", lists them among the many quests that precede it.[3]
How do you get started with Project Expansion?
6 parts
Project Expansion is an unofficial expansion of ProjectE. It adds an EMC display and more ways to passively generate EMC. This section is the order I'd go in: start with the basic-tier machines, then climb the collector tiers.[1]
Step one: Basic Collector
Start with the Basic Collector [MK 1]. The collectorMultiplier option scales collector output, and it is set to 1 in this pack. The pack added this recipe itself, so don't assume it matches what you may remember from the mod's defaults.[4][5]

Step two: Basic Relay and Basic EMC Link
Next comes the Basic Relay [MK 1]. The relayBonusMultiplier and relayTransferMultiplier options scale the relay bonus and transfer limit, and both are at 1 in the pack.[4][5]

If you already own ProjectE's Anti-Matter Relay MK1, you can convert it straight into the basic relay.[4]
Then make the Basic EMC Link [MK 1]. Like the basic collector, its recipe was added by the pack.[4]

Step three: Basic Power Flower and Matter Upgrader
The Basic Power Flower [MK 1] rounds out the basic tier, and powerflowerMultiplier scales its output (1 in this pack).[4][5]
With a basic collector, EMC link, power flower and relay in hand, you can craft the Matter Upgrader. There are two recipes for it, and either one works.[4]

Step four: climb the collector tiers
Collectors upgrade by crafting the previous tier into the next. The Dark Collector [MK 2] (MK 2) builds on the basic collector, and the Red Collector [MK 3] (MK 3) builds on the dark one.[4]
The EMC Links follow the same idea. The Dark EMC Link [MK 2] (MK 2) builds on the basic link.[4]

Handy extras
The Infinite Fuel recipe was changed by the pack. In the pack config, infiniteFuelBurnTime is 1600 ticks per use and infiniteFuelCost is 128.[4][5]

Where the quest book comes in
The quest book only touches this mod late. The a quest in "EndGame" quest asks for 8 Fading Matter. It sits in the EndGame chapter (group Storyline, chapter 7 of 44) and comes after an untitled checkmark quest. The a quest in "EndGame" quest in the same chapter comes after "The Beginning of the End" quest. Treat the collector chain above as your long-term project.[3]
How does Project Expansion work?
7 parts
Project Expansion is an unofficial expansion of ProjectE. It gives you an EMC display and more ways to generate EMC passively. This section covers what the sources show: collectors, EMC Links, the Compact Sun, fuel items, alchemical books and the config values this pack sets.[1]
Collectors
Collectors are the mod's passive EMC generators. Their tooltip says they generate EMC when exposed to light, and they show a maximum produced EMC per second, a stack produced EMC per second and a maximum stored EMC.[6]
Tiers run from Basic Collector [MK 1] (MK 1) up through Dark Collector [MK 2] (MK 2), Red Collector [MK 3] (MK 3), Violet Collector [MK 7] (MK 7), Blue Collector [MK 8] (MK 8) and Cyan Collector [MK 9] (MK 9). A Fading Collector [MK 15] also exists. The upgrades shown below are shapeless crafts that combine the previous tier with a matter.[4][6]
Basic to Dark, MK 1 to MK 2.
Violet to Blue, MK 7 to MK 8.
Blue to Cyan, MK 8 to MK 9.
This pack changes how you enter the chain. The Basic Collector recipe is added by the pack, and the Red Collector comes from converting a ProjectE Energy Collector MK3. The pack also has scripts that make the ProjectE Energy Collector MK1, MK2 and MK3 crafts use an Extended Crafting table.[4][7][8][9]

Compact Sun
The Compact Sun is a block that, when placed above or below certain blocks, multiplies their output. In this pack the base bonus is set by compactSunBonus at 10, and setting it to 0 disables it.[5][6]
The pack also has sunMultiplierPriceCompensation switched on. With it, the multiplier comes from the EMC price gap between the final power flower and the Compact Sun, rounded up to the next 10. The config notes this is about 33x in normal gameplay, so a 40x multiplier. If either block has no EMC value, or the result is lower than the bonus setting, the bonus setting is used instead.[5]
EMC Links
An EMC Link imports EMC and items, and exports items and fluids. You set an export item on the link, and it tells you if one is already set, if the item has no EMC value, if you can't afford it, or if you have hit the export limit and need to wait a second. Each link shows an EMC limit per second, an item import/export limit per second and a fluid export limit in mB per second.[6]
In this pack the Basic EMC Link recipe is added by the pack. Higher tiers, like the Blue EMC Link [MK 8] (MK 8), are crafted from the previous tier.[4]

A few config values shape how links behave here:[5]
- emcLinkEMCLimitMultiplier, emcLinkItemLimitMultiplier and emcLinkFluidLimitMultiplier are all 1 in this pack.[5]
- limitEmcLinkVendor is true, so right-click buying on a link is limited by its tier.[5]
- enableFluidEfficiency is true, which turns on fluid export efficiency, and zeroEmcFluidsAreFree is true, so fluids whose calculation ends at zero EMC are returned as free.[5][6]
Collector, flower and relay output
- collectorMultiplier, powerflowerMultiplier, relayBonusMultiplier and relayTransferMultiplier are all 1 in this pack. Each accepts a range from 0.1 to 50.0.[5]
- enableCollectorOptimizations is false, so collectors aren't limited to ticking once per second. When enabled it makes them process at most one item each second.[5]
- tickDelay is 20, the default. It sets the delay between mod operations in ticks and slightly affects generated EMC through rounding. Raise it if you notice lag.[5]
Infinite Fuel
Infinite Fuel can go straight into a furnace. Each use gives the burn time from infiniteFuelBurnTime, which is 1,600 ticks here, and costs the amount set by infiniteFuelCost, which is 128. The Infinite Steak has its own cost in infiniteSteakCost, set to 64. The pack changes the Infinite Fuel recipe from the mod's default.[4][5][6]

Alchemical books and chests
The Advanced Alchemical Chest is described as the alchemical bag in chest form. Shift click it with a bag to set its colour, and dye recolouring is also possible, like the black one here.[4][6]

The books progress from Basic Alchemical Book to Advanced Alchemical Book, and the advanced one is crafted from the basic book plus two magnum stars. editOthersAlchemicalBooks is DISABLED here, so players can't edit books bound to other players. The Knowledge Sharing Book also has a recipe in this pack.[4][5]

Display and interface settings
- emcDisplay is on, showing your current EMC and gained EMC per second in the top left corner.[5]
- formatEMC and fullNumberNames are both on, so large EMC values show as words like Million and Billion.[5]
- transmutationInterfaceItemCount is 53,647. That is the number of items the transmutation interface reports having.[5]
How do you progress through Project Expansion?
6 parts
Project Expansion adds ladders of numbered MK tiers for collectors, EMC Links and fuels, built from ProjectE items. In this pack the quest book only touches the top of those ladders. Its quests sit in the EndGame chapter, chapter 7 of 44 in the Storyline group, which has 70 quests. Two of them ask for this mod's items: a quest in "EndGame" and a quest in "EndGame".[3][4]
Starting the ladder: the pack's own recipes
The bottom rung of both the collector and EMC Link lines is changed by the pack. The recipes for Basic Collector [MK 1] and Basic EMC Link [MK 1] are both added by the pack, so they are not the mod's defaults.[4]

EMC Links follow the same tier names: Dark EMC Link [MK 2] (MK 2), Violet EMC Link [MK 7] (MK 7), Blue EMC Link [MK 8] (MK 8), Cyan EMC Link [MK 9] (MK 9), White EMC Link [MK 14] (MK 14), Fading EMC Link [MK 15] (MK 15) and Final EMC Link [MK 16] (MK 16). The top two steps are shown below.[4]

Fuel tiers
Fuel has its own ladder, and these are the steps the recipe data shows: Magenta Fuel, Blue Fuel, Cyan Fuel and Green Fuel. Each has its own recipe, shown below.[4]
Fading Matter and the Final Star
Fading Matter is the item behind one of the two quests from this mod. The quest asks you to hand in 8 of them, and it unlocks after the untitled checkmark quest in the EndGame chapter (a quest in "EndGame"). Two recipes make it, and a Fading Matter Block can be turned back into 4.[3][4]

Project Expansion items inside other endgame recipes
The pack also uses this mod's matter items as ingredients in its endgame Extended Crafting recipes. Fading Matter shows up in the Refined Storage creative storage disk and creative fluid storage disk recipes. Blue Matter is used in the Creative Compressed Iron Block recipe, a tier 4 table recipe. Magenta Matter is used in the pack's Iron Jetpacks creative capacitor recipe.[10][11][12][13]
How does Project Expansion work with other mods?
3 parts
Project Expansion is an unofficial expansion of ProjectE, so its strongest tie is with ProjectE itself. Past that, the pack uses Project Expansion's matter items as ingredients in endgame recipes from a long list of other mods.[1][4]
Built on ProjectE
The pack adds its own recipe for the Basic EMC Link [MK 1], and it is made from ProjectE items. Take a look at it here:[4]
Crafting Shaped

Collectors link up with ProjectE too. ProjectE's Energy Collector MK3 converts straight into the Red Collector [MK 3], and the Dark Collector [MK 2] is made from a Basic Collector plus ProjectE material.[4]

Matter in endgame crafting
Most of the cross-mod links are Extended Crafting table recipes that the pack adds or changes. Here is where Project Expansion items show up:[4]
- The pack's script for ProjectE's Energy Collector MK1 makes it an Extended Crafting table recipe that uses Pink Matter. The Energy Condenser recipe added by the pack also uses Pink Matter.[4][7]
- The Epic Crafting Table recipe has been changed by the pack and uses Magenta Matter Block, Pink Matter Block and Purple Matter Block.[4]
- The Infinity Ingot recipe has also been changed by the pack, and it uses White Matter.[4]
- Several Mystical Agriculture seeds need a matter: Purple Matter for Allthemodium Seeds, Lime Matter for Awakened Draconium Seeds, Cyan Matter for Unobtainium Seeds and Green Matter for Vibranium Seeds. The Ultimate Seeds use the Final Power Flower [MK 16].[4]
- Fading Matter is an ingredient in the Creative ME Item Cell, the Creative Fluid Storage Disk and the Creative Vending Upgrade. The Creative ME Item Cell also takes the Final Star.[4]
- The creative Iron Jetpacks capacitor uses Magenta Matter, and the creative thruster uses Pink Matter and Purple Matter.[4][10]
- Blue Matter goes into the pack's recipe for the Creative Compressed Iron Block.[11]
Two of these recipes are worth a closer look, since they are the ones that pull matter into other mods' big endgame items:[4]

In the quest book
The EndGame chapter sits in the Storyline group and is chapter 7 of 44 in the book. It has a quest for Fading Matter, a quest in "EndGame", which asks for 8 of them and comes after an untitled checkmark quest. The a quest in "EndGame" quest asks for the Final Star and comes after "The Beginning of the End", the quest for the Infinity Ingot.[3]
Which Project Infinity 0.1 quests use Project Expansion?
3 parts
Project Expansion shows up in one chapter of the quest book: EndGame. The quests that ask for its items are covered below.[3]
The two Project Expansion quests
- a quest in "EndGame" asks you to hand in 8 of Fading Matter. It comes right after the untitled checkmark quest a quest in "EndGame", so it is part of the first wave of EndGame goals.[3]
- a quest in "EndGame" asks for a single Final Star. It unlocks only after "The Beginning of the End" quest, so it belongs to the later creative-item section of the chapter.[3]
Where they sit in the chapter order
The Fading Matter quest sits alongside several other goals that all follow the checkmark quest, such as a quest in "EndGame" and a quest in "EndGame".[3]
The Final Star quest is further along. The chain that gets you there runs through "One Small Step" quest, then "One Giant Leap" quest, then "The Beginning of the End" quest. Once that last one is done, the Final Star quest opens next to a big group of other creative-item quests, for example a quest in "EndGame" and a quest in "EndGame".[3]
Where it all leads
Both quests are prerequisites of a quest in "EndGame", the final quest of the chapter. The book describes it as the culmination of all your efforts. It also needs the Infinity Armor quest, a quest in "EndGame" and many others, so finishing the two Project Expansion quests is only part of the way there.[3]
Which Project Expansion config options matter?
6 parts
Everything for Project Expansion is set in tickDelay's file, config/project-expansion.toml. The values below are what this pack ships. The file does not say which ones differ from the mod defaults, so I won't claim any change, except where the file states a default itself.[5]
Output multipliers
The pack leaves every output multiplier at 1, so nothing is boosted or nerfed. Each one accepts a value from 0.1 to 50.0 if you want to tune it.[5]
- collectorMultiplier: multiplies the output of Collectors.[5]
- powerflowerMultiplier: multiplies the output of Power Flowers.[5]
- relayBonusMultiplier: multiplies the bonus of Relays.[5]
- relayTransferMultiplier: multiplies the transfer limit of Relays.[5]
Compact sun bonus
compactSunBonus is 10 in this pack, and setting it to 0 disables the bonus. sunMultiplierPriceCompensation is on, so the sun bonus is worked out from the EMC price difference between the final Power Flower and the compact sun block, rounded up to the next 10. In normal gameplay that is about 33x, so a 40x multiplier. If either block has no EMC value, or the result is lower than the compact sun bonus, the bonus value is used instead.[5]
EMC Links
- emcLinkEMCLimitMultiplier, emcLinkFluidLimitMultiplier and emcLinkItemLimitMultiplier are all 1, with a range of 0.1 to 50.0. They multiply the EMC, fluid and item limits of EMC Links.[5]
- limitEmcLinkVendor is true, so Right-Click functionality on EMC Links is limited by tier.[5]
Infinite items
- infiniteFuelBurnTime is 1600 ticks for each use of the infinite fuel item.[5]
- infiniteFuelCost is 128, the cost of using the infinite fuel item.[5]
- infiniteSteakCost is 64, the cost of using the infinite steak item.[5]
Performance
tickDelay is 20, which the file itself lists as the default, so the pack did not change it. It accepts 1 to 200. It slightly affects how much EMC is generated because of rounding, and you should raise it if you notice lag.[5]
enableCollectorOptimizations is false in this pack. If you turn it on, collectors tick only once per second and process at most one item each second.[5]
Display and other options
- emcDisplay is on, showing your current EMC and EMC gained per second in the top left corner.[5]
- formatEMC and fullNumberNames are both on, so EMC is shown with names like Million, Billion and Trillion instead of abbreviations.[5]
- editOthersAlchemicalBooks is "DISABLED", so players cannot edit books bound to other players. The other allowed values are OP_ONLY and ENABLED.[5]
- transmutationInterfaceItemCount is 53,647, the number of items the transmutation interface reports having.[5]
- enableFluidEfficiency and zeroEmcFluidsAreFree are both on, so fluids whose calculations end at zero EMC are returned as free.[5]
